Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ensures quick data handling but needs advanced security features What is our primary use case? I am using HPE MSA storage solutions for my organization's data storage needs. I have offices with different requirements, and this product is used across our various setups. What is most valuable? The speed and performance of HPE MSA are admirable. I found that its scalability benefited my organization, especially in larger settings. While the price is not reasonable, its performance makes up for it. Additionally, the licensing costs are consistent with most brands. Compared to Huawei, however, I found that Huawei's processing power, performance, and cost were more advantageous. What needs improvement? Data security features are more important to me than anything else, and I think HPE MSA lacks in this area. The hard disk failures are a major concern as they are risky, causing potential loss of redundancy. HPE needs to incorporate more security features, similar to those Huawei provides. For how long have I used the solution? I have been working almost ten years with HPE MSA. What do I think about the stability of the solution? I faced issues with hard disk reliability, as they frequently fail and risk losing redundancy. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? HPE MSA's scalability benefits are notable as its speed and performance are good. How are customer service and support? Their technical support is regular, but not always proactive. Support is there, but frequent hard disk changes require constant vigilance. I would rate technical support a three out of five due to the lack of effectiveness in preventing recurring problems. How would you rate customer service and support? Neutral Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch? I was using HP storage previously and made the switch from IBM FlashSystem due to numerous problems with the latter. After many hard disk issues with IBM, I shifted to HP. However, after five years with HP, considering their disk failures and as other features were only just being developed, I decided to try Huawei. What about the implementation team? I have direct partners in the Middle East who assist with any issues directly. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? The pricing of HPE MSA is not deemed reasonable, though their licensing costs compare similarly to other brands. The initial cost is where differences are more apparent. Which other solutions did I evaluate? I have evaluated solutions from Huawei and IBM alongside HP. What other advice do I have? All organizations are concerned about data security. Emphasizing better data security features is crucial. Given the circumstances surrounding data threats, security features should be prioritized more than any other aspect. I would rate the overall solution six out of ten. Which deployment model are you using for this solution? On-premises Disclaimer: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ease of management and seamless storage optimization empower effective data handling What is our primary use case? We use HPE MSA as storage for the VMware servers, and we will try to use Proxmox server later on, but currently, we use VMware. How has it helped my organization? It allows vmotion, a better use of disk space, speed and responsiveness, good protection of data. What is most valuable? The most useful feature of HPE MSA is VAAI, which are the functions embedded in the system, allowing operations on the server or storage without using server CPU, making it easier. It is really transparent; it's a feature so you use it and forget it. I am using the HPE MSA automatic tiering feature, and it works very well. Hot data is always available in a fast way. We put NVMe drives in HPE MSA to have flash storage for cache and then we use several disks with different grades, enterprise and different speeds. We had pools that we put together, and the data goes directly to the right pool, making the hot data always directly available. It is really transparent; you just activate the tiering, and it is automatic. What needs improvement? The user web interface is a bit slow, but it is really easy to use, although you still have to wait a bit when you send an operation. We have had some drive failures, but with the redundancy, we had no data loss. We just had to replace the disk, and it goes automatically well. The main difficulty is the firmware upgrade of disks, as it means stopping all the servers to make the upgrade. It would be beneficial to have it done in the background, stopping a disk and upgrading it while keeping the system running. Regarding responsiveness of the web interface, the same issue exists with iLO on the servers, where the interface is also a bit slow. However, with the new servers, it is always faster. The small CPU dedicated to that task does not have a lot of power since it is not the main task of the machine, making it less of a real problem and just a question of responsiveness. For how long have I used the solution? I have been working with HPE MSA for about 10 years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? HPE MSA is sufficient for our use, as we only have about 100 terabytes of data. It is not that much regarding what can be done, but for us, it is enough, and the system is well-dimensioned, so we have no problems with this, and it is fast enough for what we do. Never had a performance problem with storage. Every VM has the responsiveness better than local storage. The performance with the new hardware will be certainly better, as I saw it in the specs, so it would be nice to have the new hardware. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? It is easy to adapt HPE MSA in relation to our organization's storage needs, as you may add storage and dedicate it to any volume you want, and it is really easy to use. How are customer service and support? I have contacted HP support for issues, and with the contract, we have support directly from HP. When there is a problem, they are very responsive and come directly the next business day with the spare part, and it is replaced without a problem. It is really well done, and we have no problem with this; we are really confident with HP regarding that matter. How would you rate customer service and support? Positive Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch? I worked before with IBM; it was good products also, but I changed to HP due to the contract, and it is also very good hardware. How was the initial setup? The setup for HPE MSA is really easy because we use recognized programs VMware, and they have a good partnership with them, so it is not really difficult to put all together. If I want to use another program Proxmox due to the changes in VMware pricing, we are really looking for that solution. It is not currently recognized officially as a solution, so it will probably be not as easy to implement, and it would be beneficial if HP worked on it to make their system available for others. What about the implementation team? We do it all in-house. What was our ROI? It certainly shows a return on investment with HPE MSA, but we have framework contracts with special prices for the HP hardware, so I am not sure that our return on investment calculation corresponds to what other people should have. We certainly have a better return. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? I did not compare the cost of HPE MSA with others because we buy with a framework contract, and HP is the only brand available on that contract, so we have no comparison. Which other solutions did I evaluate? HP should make the system available for other virtualization software apart from VMware. I see a lot of information about people moving from VMware or looking for other solutions because it becomes too expensive for SMB usage. You may choose Proxmox for instance as an enterprise solution with support. It is always difficult for them to be aware of all the hardware available outside, so it would be beneficial if HP worked with Proxmox to establish good drivers and documentation to improve the setup, making it easier and well-documented. What other advice do I have? For those who are planning to use HPE MSA, it is small business oriented, but it is a really good project because once you buy it, it could probably be a bit expensive for others, but once you put it in place, you just forget it, only reminded when you are at the end of the storage and need to add storage, which is easy to manage, and you may build on it, and that is important for companies. It is fast and efficient with your storage. You use all your disk storage and grow easily when more space is needed. I would rate HPE MSA a ten out of ten; we are really happy with the solution, as it corresponds to our needs and is very professional for what it is. The integration with Veeamware, with VAM for backup, is improved with the new version. Which deployment model are you using for this solution? On-premises If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use? What is most valuable? Generally, HPE MSA has improved my storage management. It has notably provided scalability benefits. What needs improvement? It needs more details on how to integrate with the cloud for backup scenarios. It should show more options for cloud backup support. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? The scalability benefits I have seen from using HPE MSA are noteworthy. How are customer service and support? I would rate their support as eight out of ten. They should work on their response time and overall competence. How would you rate customer service and support? Positive What was our ROI? HP MSA has provided a return on investment for storage needs, saving me money approximately. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? I am not satisfied with the licensing model and pricing. What other advice do I have? I would recommend HPE MSA for the midrange, not for big businesses. My overall rating for HPE MSA is seven out of ten. Disclaimer: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Provides cost-effective and flexible storage solutions with low maintenance and downtime What is our primary use case? They are using HPE MSA for file storage and running VMs. How has it helped my organization? The solution is quite solid. The solution provides low downtime which is important to mention. What is most valuable? HPE MSA is a very flexible array because we can add more enclosures and extend the capacity dynamically. In terms of disaster recovery, we can define global spares in HPE MSA. When one disk fails, a global spare is automatically allocated to that particular disk, which saves the data. It has a very user-friendly interface that enables configuration, administration, and troubleshooting to be done easily. It is the most cost-effective storage array and requires minimal maintenance with low downtime, making it suitable for SMB users. What needs improvement? If it could be a hybrid with SSDs and hard disks, then it would be more economical and efficient. For how long have I used the solution? I have been using it for the last three years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? It is a very stable product. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? The solution is scalable. The durability and usability are excellent. Anyone who purchases HPE MSA can use it for at least 10 years, even after the device reaches end of life. It is more profitable to use HPE MSA because if you run out of space, you can expand the capacity of the array using expansion enclosures, making it more flexible and profitable. How are customer service and support? They are responsive and provide very good service. How would you rate customer service and support? Positive Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch? I have only worked with XtremeIO, which is an all-flash storage solution. Which other solutions did I evaluate? P2000 is an alternative solution. What other advice do I have? P2000 has become legacy and we can't find spare parts for it anymore. The life cycle is very low. On a scale of 1-10, I rate this solution an 8 when compared with all-flash storage and newer products, as it is an older product. Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
