I don't know if it's a fair assessment of the laptop or HP incompetence, but the brand new laptop doesn't work with Support Assistant and updates (uninstall/re-install) do not help. IF the basic functions of the laptop functioned out of the box, then maybe I could provide technical performance comments. It is odd that a brand new laptop doesn't have all drivers included by default, but I had to do a manual windows update (after noticing the touchpad didn't work properly) and the laptop had to be rebooted three (3) times !! I didn't know I was running Windows 95. The website intended to provide support for the drivers (enter serial number) and it says it will take about 3 minutes to show what updates are available. Well guess what, that has been running for an hour (multiple times), just to see if it will ever complete - but of course its as reliable as every other element of this exercise in frustration. The problem is the "Synaptics" touch pad isn't working, assuming it's actually that particular vendor. The left and right click buttons do not work and you need to hold the button for a couple seconds before the clicking act as any other mouse or touchpad. I have not yet searched for a driver by the HID and VID, but that will be next. I simply wanted to attempt to install a "real" driver in lieu of the Windows HID "compliant" product - which is total garbage. As it is I am at zero productivity and will put this on YouTube while I drive over this "wonderful" HP product, with my car.
