Disappointing, to say the least
A dock should be a dumb device that peripherals attach to and nothing more. The Zbook laptop is awesome and everything attached to it works fine. Introduce the dock, different days, different issue. I have installed the latest firmware, BIOS and drivers as of 8/1 and it still does not function properly. It is a total piece of junk.

Works Great For Me
Not sure why others are having so many issues with this. I got the docking station along with my ZBook Studio from my company IT dept. and I have had no issues. I have two displays connected and a wireless keyboard/mouse, and have not a single issue with any of them. Maybe I got lucky and one that worked, or everyone else is doing something wrong.

Great but doesn't work
Why did they switch from an actual dock?
Pros: Looks nice?
Cons: 1.The port that plugs in from the dock to the laptop are on opposite sides.
2. The Ethernet port has been disabled by HP b/c it doesn't work
3. The price, other than the ability to use one cable for power and thunderbolt it does the same thing as a 70 dollar dongle
4. HP won't fix the silly thing, as stated before there was an issue with the Ethernet port, so instead of fixing it HP disabled it! YAY! super expensive dock that doesn't work!

Only Get this if you have no other choice
If you have a Zbook with thunderbolt this is probably your only choice. Doesn't work like docks of the past since everything relies on multiple software drivers to work. Software installation is abysmal and their own documentation is flat out wrong. Sometimes out of the blue everything connected to the "dock" will just disconnect randomly, hopefully it will recover but sometimes you have to disconnect and forcibly restart the laptop. Sometimes you get graphic distortions when booting up into Windows, unplugging the video cable and plugging it back in will fix, not my cable since I replaced it and duplicated the issue on several monitors. I guess that's what you have to deal with while trying to do some work on the laptop. The tunderbolt/power cable is way too short. Software updates are not easy and the support articles are horrible for this product. You really are just better off manually plugging things into the dedicated ports on the laptop. Really sad. Do not buy this unless you absolutely need it.

Unreliable, sensitive, and spatially challenged
"Touchy" is the right word for it. I think it depends heavily on what type, brand, and quantity of 'stuff' you're hooking up to it. If you're like me, and you want a dock/port redirector like this to turn your laptop into a full-blown desktop experience...maybe a little 'buyer beware' here then. I'm in IT - and I work from home. I have this hooked up to my Zbook 15 G3. The peripherals involved aren't crazy - 3 Asus 23" LED monitors (new but not bleeding edge) - two on HDMI/DisplayPort, 1 on VGA, a popular Logitech cordless mouse, the Microsoft Natural keyboard 4000 (USB not wireless), I'm using the NIC (RJ45) on the dock, and the extra USB port to charge an external device...oh and some Bose speakers. I'll say this - everything works...now...mostly. I still deal with the whole computer freezing on me until I disconnect the Zbook - after which I can reconnect it and it seems fine but that's irritating. And today it started not charging my laptop's battery when plugged in too. So it can work, but not without monkeying with it. The support forums all say that there are a number of different combinations of drivers, firmware, and support software (and multiple versions of each) provided by HP and you have to hit the right combo of all of them to get it to work. For me (Windows 10) I did have to load the Asmedia USB Host Controller Driver with the Conexant HP Dock Audio, and the Thunderbolt software. I think I needed to do a firmware update too. So if you're willing to monkey with it - you can make it work. Find a stable place to set the laptop and the dock because once it's connected, if you touch the cable at all, the screens will blip. And everytime Windows updates roll through I hold my breath. So...it's sort of like a Chevy. If you like working on it and aren't thrown off by the occasional maintenance, dive in. If you're one of those "I just want it to work" types - swim at your own risk.
And I have to echo all the same sentiments about the awkwardness of the cable - no 90 degree angle, & way too short. This is easily fixed HP. Let me buy a better version of the cable - one that is longer PLEASE.

It really doesn't work
I went ahead and bought this despite the bad reviews thinking that maybe those were just a fluke. Nope. I've done everything recommended to get this thing working. Updated BIOS, firmware and all drivers. It occasionally works fine but then will suddenly not work any more, and there are multiple problems that happen randomly - the display starts cycling on/off, usb on the dock and computer stop working, blue screens when going into sleep or hibernate mode. Maybe it will be great one day, but for now it is nowhere near reliable.

If I could give it -1 stars I would.
I have been online with HP tech support for most of the week. At first the support specialist blamed this issue on a Microsoft office update. NO! The BSOD I've been experiencing has been due to this less than valuable "wigit's" interface with the mobo and how the video drivers switch over as you dock and undock.
I have lost hours, perhaps days of work due to this unit shutting my computer down.
I am an electrical engineer in an R&D group and if we ever released such a flop we would all be fired. I have a considerable amount of experience with debugging electrical and computer systems. This dock (and HP tech support) defies logic. HP, you lost a customer in me, I will never buy your products again (unless its a printer) and I will recommend to anyone in our office who will listen that this dock is a total disaster.
I would, if I could, give this dock -1 stars because if a star emanates light, then this dock sucks it up, akin to a black hole.

Wait for issues to be fixed
I needed a docking station for by Zbook G3 Studio and this one seemed great on paper. I've had issues with it from day 1, but many of the more severe issues were addressed with firmware and bios updates over the past 2+ months. Currently I still have issues, mostly around when I re-dock my laptop and getting the dock to recognize and become active again. Seems like docking station 101. Good news is that it appears that HP is trying to resolve these issues. Hope this dock can justify its price tag some day, but right now it's not worth the price.

Once setup correctly, dock works well.
There are a lot of bad reviews of this product, but as someone who's bought and setup more than 10 of these devices, I can say that once the setup is complete, these docks work as well as any. I've only had to send one back to HP per their recommendation, but the rest have been flawless. Just take a little patience, install all the right drivers in the right order following the directions, and you'll have a great dock for a great laptop.

Most Frustrating Piece of Electronic Equip Ever
This product is terrible. I followed all the help docs that make you do driver install sequences from bios to ASMedia to graphics.... The external monitor I connected goes to sleep when I click a button on a web page. Then apparently rolls some dice to determine if it will come back or just go to sleep. This is absurdly difficult to work this way. The zbook G3 however is really great... Biggest waste of $200.

Worst dock I have ever used
First disappointment: USB ports do not work before OS is started. This means that if you have to use keyboard during boot, for example for password, you have to turn computer on with lid open, and then quickly close the lid before OS starts, unless you want to use laptop's display with one external display. However, if you have second external monitor, it does not work if lid is open.
Secondly, the dock does not support sleep mode, so if the computer goes to sleep when in dock, or you attach the dock in sleep mode, it does not wake up nicely. And especially if you have second monitor, it does not come back alive even after screen saver. It changes resolution and sometimes starts flickering. I have actually had to quit using second monitor with this dock.
Notice that these are all FEATURES of this dock, NOT MALFUNCTIONS: the manual says that the dock does not support pre-OS USB and also that it does not recommend attaching the computer during sleep. So, it is not a matter of bad configuration, wrong settings or bad drivers etc. This dock just do not work properly!
And by the way, I have installed latest BIOS, firmware and all the needed drivers, and read all the information from HP support, white pages and also from related forums, SO DO NOT EVEN DARE TO GIVE ME THAT TRIVIAL RESPONSE "HP is concerned with the feedback ... here the site that will provide you help etc."

Always has issues
This product sucks . I was provided this product by my work and I have already gone through two because I've had so many issues with it. I use it hook my HP Z book to two external monitors, mouse, keyboard, and ethernet cord. However, lately I've given up on the mouse and keyboard because they frequently disconnect for a second and this is very frustrating while typing reports. I also had multiple days where I can't get it work at all (like today) even after updating the latest firmware and restarting my laptop. Moral of the story is this product does not work consistently and only cause headaches. If my laptop had two ports for my monitors I would get rid of it all together.

Zbook and Docking Station - Disappointing
I have always bought HP(personally and professionally) but this time I seriously doubt my decision was good. My IT guys told me the Zbook came with a bad motherboard and hard drive. HP technician actually came out to repair. The docking station - I like the portability but it is very inconvenient. Cord on the wrong side and inflexible. Some of the ports didn't work. What happened to HP quality? Totally disappointing. Bottom line - your customers want and need a better product and design !!

Horrible
I've purchased and used HP equipment for over 20 years and cannot remember another experience as horrible as this one. This dock is a torpedo in the side of the Zbook G3 series. The ZBook G3 is great, except that this is the dock for it and this dock is not ready for prime time. Without a convenient, functional dock what good is the notebook series in a corporate environment?

Very bad dock
I can't describe how bad this dock is and I have all the latest drivers and BIOS as it was recommended.
Ports are extremely badly positioned so it's impossible to have tidy cables and not have something being broken or under some weird angle.
Unplugging and re-plugging is very finicky.
Very often everything connected to dock (monitors, keyboard, mouse etc) wont be recognized after shutting down the PC and then turning it on again, so dock has to be re-plugged again after a restart.
Also had problems when using a keyboard with integrated smart card reader. It kept BSOD-ing the PC. After changing the keyboard it started working again.
Additionally, dock heats quite a lot.
Also sometimes it just refuses to work after coming to work after a weekend. I shut down the notebook and take it home on Friday, and then on Monday I have to restart the PC 2 times until the dock is again recognized.
This doesn't happen any other day in the week (Although I still unplug it when I take it home).

Dock was working fine with HP zbook 15 g3 and then stopped working completely. USB, VGA, audio jack... all not even detected by laptop. Not having a standard HDMI output on the dock also makes this very unattractive. I would love to return this dock, but I might just throw it in the trash instead because I am so frustrated with it.

Great Except for the Cable - not recommended
I purchased this dock for the zBook G3 I got last month. A key reason for getting the dock was to eliminate the cable that protrudes from the right side of the latop - the HDMI display cable that goes to my 4K monitor. The cable sticks out and gets in the way of where I use an external mouse.
In the original picture for the dock, which was shown when I purchased it, the cable that goes from the zBook to the dock has a right-angle connection, just like the power cord the zBookcomes with. This would be perfect and what I expected - a nice right-angle connection to keep the cable out of the way from the use of my mouse.
Unfortunately, the cable I received with the dock does not have a right-angle connection and sticks out in the way of where I want to use the mouse.
That right-angle cable connection was the key reason I purchased the dock. Consequently, I'm disappointed. I noticed the picture for this product has been updated and no longer shows the right-angle cable -- too bad.
The dock itself is working fine - just doesn't solve my core reason for wanting to buy it. It does consolidate other cables that now go to the dock and not the laptop.

Consummately Disappointing
With such a high price tag, one would expect this device to work. Instead, I spend most days constantly plugging and unplugging the thunderbolt cable from my laptop and restarting my computer to get just a single external monitor, a keyboard, and a mouse to be usable. I had thought that this item would increase convenience by being letting me use just a single plug on my laptop, but it instead has been a source of constant frustration from the moment I ordered it in February.
In short, DO NOT BUY THIS ITEM.

Nice features, update drivers, but the cable.
While its loaded with features, it lacks the simplicity of HP's older docks. I understand this is due to using the thunderbolt port for expansion. While we lose the reliability of a hardware dock from the past, the flexibility should be a positive gain. As users we are relegated to the joys of driver management now, which puts most of the mentioned issues out of HP's hands.
What I just don't understand is how this thing got manufactured, the dock port on my Zbook15G3 is on the right side. The input on the dock is on the opposite side forcing the cable to cross the entire docking unit to plug in. As if the cable wasn't short enough already, this wasted trip is making for a tangled desk. Granted, I have addressed this, as many have by flipping the dock upside down. Industrial design test #1 fail. Is there a technical limitation to making the cable with a right angle connector so its not taking up 3" on my desk for cable turn? I just need something that is lower profile so that every single time something bumps the cable the dock does not think its become unplugged! Thunderbolt has a 1m cable limit, why is this cable not 1M? Why can I not even buy this cable as a part? Why are there not additional cables available?
Could be a great product, given the understandings that we are at the stranglehold of drivers now. What do I want? a 90 degree cable on the laptop end and a 1M cable length, PLEASE! I will buy it!

Poor design
I don't often review products, but this is quite possibly the worst piece of design I have ever encountered.
I will begin with the form of the dock itself. Although the dock is minimalist and suitable for an open desktop environment, the port and power button configurations are not compatible with any logical desk setup. The thunderbolt cable installs into the back left of the dock, while the port is located on the right rear side of the computer. In order to route the (short) cable such that it can be plugged in to the laptop, the power button on the dock is no longer accessible. If the dock was arranged such that any of the other cables were used, they would not be able to be manipulated with the Thunderbolt cable installed with the laptop.
As far as the Thunderbolt software integration is concerned, the dock is recognized less than 1/3 of the time following a system shutdown or reboot and not at all if the computer is hibernated or put to sleep. That means that keyboards, mice, monitors, or anything else that you would wish to use with the dock are not usable. So the "docked" laptop functions as a standard laptop but is tied to a desk occupied by paperweights (aka monitors, mice, keyboards, & a dock). All of the relevant drivers, firmware, and software have been updated per HP Tech Bulletin, yet the dock fails to function.
If HP were paying me to use this device, I probably wouldn't, but as they request >$200 for you to have the luxury of using it, I cannot recommend this product. The 1 star rating is only provided because 0 or less stars is not an option.

I was a little surprised by all the negative reviews. We use these at work on my team and no complaints. We all use dual monitors wireless mouse and keyboard. I really like the ease of connection with the thunderbolt ac power connector. Only minor issue is that occassionally it will lock or hang for a second causing a response like this when your typinggggggggggggg. Not as good as traditional HP docks
It's unfortunate that HP did not design the Thunderbolt 3 Dock to provide the same feature set as traditional docks. This dock lacks any pre-boot operability, which means no support for Wake on LAN or keyboard and mouse before the OS has booted. This may be acceptable for a consumer grade product, but certainly not for a flagship enterprise product. No more managing end-user devices remotely with the direction HP has taken with this product. Further, the docks have been unreliable to this point. A search of the support forums will show several months worth of customers trying to get this product working properly in their environments.

Buggy and Unreliable
Our HP laptops at work use these new Thunderbolt docks, and they have been nothing but trouble. Docking and undocking rarely works correctly, and sometimes devices plugged into the dock just disappear for no reason. And this is *after* installing all of the various BIOS, firmware, and driver updates that HP has published. HP needs to stop shipping half baked hardware, and instead focus on making sure stuff works reliably BEFORE they ship it. I used to be a big fan of HP hardware, but I simply cannot recommend it anymore. Caveat emptor.

ZBook 150W Thunderbolt Dock washed out to sea
Granted... I have lots of issues with the "docking" of the Zbook G3 I have, but as for this docking bar I find it hard to decide where to begin
Docking Cable... 0.5m cable = WAY too short (could use about 50% more length). I don't have a clue what twisted thought process of put the port for the cable on the left end of the back side (assuming you'd want the power button facing the front) when the patching port for the cable appears on the right side of the notebook... which brings me immediately to...
Why on EARTH would you put the port for the stiff Thunderbolt 3 + power cable on the OUTSIDE of the power port adapter... and then ship the blasted device with a 90° power cord?!?!? This means the power cord either has to pass under or over the Thunderbolt 3 + power cable or over the top... because otherwise the power cable interferes with the other thunderbolt port on the dock.
Speaking of "what possessed you to..." Why would you put two DisplayPort ports and a VGA on the Dock... but the Zbook comes with HDMI and VGA. Thank heavens I still have a DisplayPort cable for my monitor... but imagine my surprise when I unplugged my HDMI cable from the Zbook and realized... wait... this has no HDMI ports on it!
I also found it a little odd to find both VGA and the CAT5 ports on the opposite end of the Dock than where they appear on the Zbook.
From a functional and Engineering design I would give this a resounding D- (for that matter this would have thrown the curve so far that even Peppermint Patty from "Peanuts" would have gotten a D or maybe even a C)
Shipping it with a right-angle power cord... just daft... and then putting the power cord inside other ports just defies logic. If you want somewhere to use a right-angle, put it on one end of the blasted cable for connecting the notebook so that the cable doesn't have to bend 180° to get to the Dock or at the very least... the port on the Dock should go on the complete opposite end.
Since my parents raised me with that "if you can't say anything nice..." matra... I feel compelled to find SOMETHING positive to say
"Think. Think. Think." - Winnie the Pooh
Did it work when I plugged everything in? Yes
After plugging it all in could I turn on the notebook without lifting the lid? Yes
Did my two monitors work (using a VGA and a DisplayPort cable)? Yes
Do I now have some free USB ports on my notebook? Yes

Other peripherals are painfully slow when attached to dock. When direct attached to laptop thru put is blazing fast. With video, I initially tried HDMI to monitor port cable - monitor (HPx2301) flashed on and off and then put the monitor to sleep. Tried downgrading to VGA cable - same problem. Direct connect to laptop - fine. Peripherals - network connection, printer, there is some latency when connected to dock. Direct connect - no problem. Instructions by HP on this page for this issue are pretty generic and useless as well.
Very disappointed and frustrated

Terrible
This might be a nice piece of equipment if it worked. It has been unusable since I purchased it in May. None of the "updates" work. If you use with with a ZBook G3 expect USB ports to not work, attached displays to not work, BSODs when connecting the laptop to the dock, and many issues. It does work well as a doorstop, however.

Doesn't quite meet expectations
Most of the ports on my Thunderbolt 3 work fine, however, I have not been able to get any of the display ports to work with either of the two monitors in my house (though those monitors work fine with both Mac's and PC's and even with my new HP laptop when plugged in directly to the laptop). I'm on my 2nd Thunderbolt 3 and have spent many hours trouble shooting the problem but to no avail. Also, the cable that is supplied with the unit is too short, it needs to be lengthened by at least 6-12 inches or more.
