A Little Beast
Great machine, well thought out design with substantial case. The little bit of length increase over the previous model is well worth it due to being able to handle regular very deo cards, not just mobile. It was a piece of cake installing a second m.2 SSD.
The I9 with 64gb will handle anything I can throw at it. I contacted HP service to address questions I had. They were professional and a pleasure to deal with.

Perfect mobile desktop!!
I owned a Z2 mini g5. I love the small format for traveling. Makes the perfect mobile desktop and now comes with a full graphics card. The only issue, I cannot connect to more than 1 monitor in some situations. But, I don't blame HP, It has to be a Windows 11 or Nvidia issue.

Ugly, works great. HP should be ashamed of stand!
Bought this little workstation to handle demands of new photo processing software. i5-14500, 512GB SSD, 8GB RAM and RTX 4000 SFF graphics card. Added 64GB RAM and 4TB Samsung 990 PRO SSD. Works as well as hoped for. Knocked off a star due to utterly useless stand. It's completely baffling to me that HP went to the effort to design and produce a stand that is no better, perhaps even worse than just setting the station vertically on a flat surface. Wish the case at least had square corners instead of rounded ones.

HP Z2 Mini G9
The Z2 Mini G9 is an awesome workstation. Mine has the Intel i9-14900K (125w) with 32GB RAM and the nVidia 12GB RTX-A2000 GPU. Aside from the usual home and office tasks, I use it to edit and encode video. It's been super fast and reliable. It's amazing what can fit into such a small package if it's designed right.

Died after using it for 2 weeks
After using this custom build Z2 G9 Mini for about two weeks, the computer died. It won't power up. It's completely dead. I thought this model was very durable.
Now that's a paperweight that's cost a small fortune.
What a disappointment!

A great, faily powerful little workstation. Wish a stand were available to hold it on edge. Fan can get noisy at 25% CPU load and above. Almost silent at low CPU. Note that USB ports are on the unit's left side and back - no ports on the front.

Died in under a month - warranty service not as hoped.
System was installed 7/11/24 and was working very well. On 7/31/24 it started blue-screening and needed warranty service. A service ticket was opened on 8/1/24 and onsite was confirmed but could not come out until 8/5/24. On 8/5 they did not show. Rescheduled for 8/6. On 8/6 they did not show. Rescheduled for today, 8/7. Still waiting for them...

Easy ordering, top-notch construction, fast delivery.
Beat their shipping estimate by a week. Very easy to configure. I bought top processor and required interfaces and minimum memory and ssd. Upgraded memory and SSD to max config myself saving thousands of dollars overall. Unit runs hot. I would recommend heatsinks for all SSDs. Excellent suite of support SW - no adware/bloatware, just what is needed to maintain a secure system. I did have one issue which was easily (luckily) solved at home. The screw that holds the slider catch for the case lid in place (attaches the metal clasp to the plastic lever) was missing. This meant the lid would not lock securely closed. There are sensors that take action on an "open case" alert, so it is not just an aesthetic issue. I could not find an appropriate screw, but a drop of superglue did the trick.

Very easy setup. Needed to run Win10 rather than Win11 (for the time being). Came with Win10 installed. Was up and going in 30 minutes or less. Peppy and small footprint fits well in my crowded office :) - does the job.

Can't handle the heat...
What is the point of offering k series procs if you can't cool them? I specifically went after a 65w i9-13900(non k) and ordered the 125w heatsink and fan. Running a stress test, it will run about 10 seconds before it throttles itself. It's a shame as I really like the small footprint of the machine and it is really quiet.

Excellent support when needed, superb quality products.
We received one computer out of four that had a bad motherboard. HP went to every length to replace the motherboard and get the computer up and running in the next few days after I reported the problem. Thank you.

Excellent big workstation in a small package
We love the Z2 Minis - we have had 5 of them to date and have very few if any issues with them. We keep ours on all the time and use them for production graphics and prepress. We need reliability and speed and these do the job of a large workstation in a small package. This new G9 model seems to offer improved cooling and extra internal space. This unit is fast!

Disappointing Experience with HP Z2 G9 Mini Works
I recently had a disappointing experience with the HP Z2 G9 Mini Workstation, which I found to be problematic. The video ports, particularly the two DisplayPorts on the motherboard, have been a source of constant frustration, causing unstable video output. Attempts to resolve the issue by removing the extended graphics card proved futile, indicating a deeper problem with the unit itself.
Additionally, the workstation is equipped with two USB-C ports that are limited to charging only. This is particularly inconvenient given that many modern monitors utilize USB-C for input, rendering these ports useless for video output without resorting to specific adapters or compatible monitors. The necessity for a mini DP or DP monitor for proper functionality significantly limits the flexibility and usability of this workstation in a multi-monitor setup.
To make matters worse, my experience with HP customer service has been far from satisfactory. Reaching out for support turned into hours-long endeavors with little to no resolution, leaving me with the impression that customer satisfaction is not a priority. The overall lack of responsiveness and the apparent indifference to customer issues have only added to the frustration.
In summary, the HP Z2 G9 Mini Workstation has fallen short of expectations due to its unstable video output, restrictive USB-C functionality, and poor customer service. Those considering this workstation for professional use, especially in environments requiring reliable multi-monitor setups, might want to look elsewhere.

It is a nice small but powerful package that takes only a very small amount of desk space. In order to keep the small size, an oversize power brick is needed along with a long connecting wire. In some installations this won't make any difference. In others, it is another awkward box and wires that have to be located behind the computer.
While the total number of USB I/O ports is adequet, more should have been located on the rear panel. The USB and headphone I/O should have been located on the front instead of the side.
Would I buy one again? No. I think the standard Z2G9 is a better form factor for general use.
