Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good laptop once I got a working one The ProBook 4 G1a 16 I initially received was DOA. I'll talk about my support experience later, but to make a long story short, it was far more difficult to get a replacement than it should have been. I already have a Probook 460 G11, so I knew I'd like this one physically since the chassis is virtually identical. The big screen is great for my less-than-perfect eyes, and the full keyboard is great as well although I'm not a huge fan of the appearance of gray keys vs. the black ones HP business models used to have. Performance-wise, this laptop works great. Battery life is good as well. One caveat to anyone who's buying this model expecting to be able to add a second SSD: Unless you order a configuration that comes with a second SSD or a WWAN card, the motherboard won't even have a slot for it to plug into. On the other hand, my support experience, or my attempt to get support in the first place, was suboptimal. For starters, while the serial number of the DOA laptop worked on the HP sales site, the HP support site kept saying it was a bad serial number. This prevented me from submitting an exchange request online. I eventually found a support phone number via googling. This, of course, made me talk to a frustrating AI which said it would transfer me to a live person, then disconnected the call. On a second attempt, the AI actually connected me to the support queue. The initial rep too was unable to find the serial number in his system, but after he conferenced in someone on the sales side, she walked him through overriding the system and submitting my replacement request. I received the new laptop within 2 days after the DOA one was received by HP. One last thing I'd like to note: The serial number for the new (working) laptop did not show as valid on the HP support site until I'd had it for two weeks. I'm not sure if this is intentional, but there is definitely a disconnect between the sales and support sites. Overall I'll give this a 4/5. I would have rated it higher if my initial experience was better.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excited but turned out disappointed! Was super excited that I found a great deal on this laptop. It was working as needed, but picked it up one day to move to another room and heard rattling inside. There was loose parts inside this brand new laptop. Cool, I’ll exchange for a replacement. More trouble, after several tries and lots of miscommunication on HP’s part, I eventually had enough of the back and forth and returned for a refund. Even though it was on sale, the unit retailed at over $2000, it should not have had broken or loose parts rattling around inside a brand new laptop and so much miscommunication to exchange.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great system overall with minor issues TLDR; Good computer 4.5 stars except keyboard layout(-1/2 star), Wolf Security (-1/2 star), and the dark patterns for HP update utilities(-1 star). When purchased, this was one of the best deals for build quality and performance. The screen is nice, would like it to be 400 nits but that is not common for standard business systems unless customized. The trackpad feels great, a good size and you don't get that grippy feeling when sliding across it. Much like a keyboard, it is hard to describe but it is a great one. (-1/2 star) Now the keyboard, not a fan. The best I can give it is that it has a solid response, it isn't mushy when typing but fairly crisp. For my, and a couple of my users, we could have gone with ever so much more key travel, like 1/2 mm - 1 mm and it would be perfect, feeling wise. The layout and placement of some of the keys is less than ideal. If you want to print screen you need to use the function key or lock the fn (shift instead of typical esc) which then makes it so that you need to use the fn key in order to use the F# keys. The other thing I dislike about the keyboard is the shrunken arrow keys. I prefer how other companies have them spaced out from the pg up/pg down keys, even if they needed to have them hang a little lower than the rest of they keys. (-1/2 star) Also get rid of Wolf Security or make it less complicated to get off. I need to uninstall multiple programs in a specific order otherwise it comes back. (-1 star) The dark patterns with HP update utilities. The delay and multiple clicks needed to bypass sharing information before I am able to run a simple update program is inexcusable. Many people would not wait long enough before they would allow and sign in to everything. The only reason I discovered this initially is I looked for a method around this which gave it enough time for the skip buttons to appear. This is actively hostile to the end user and has made me rethink purchasing and recommending others (IT guy for a small company) even with the overall quality of the device.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from HP ProBook 4 G1A 16 is a WINNER I bought an HP laptop from Amazon. It turned out to be a machine that was altered by the seller. The machine stopped working after 2 days. I literally could not get it to start. Take Away: do not buy laptops from Amazon. I then bought the ProBook directly from HP. The process was seamless and the product arrived earlier than the schedule. This product is perfect for me. Very sturdy and has all the latest features I wanted. The touch screen is awesome. I have had ZERO problems with this product. I am very happy with the purchase and highly recommend the product.
