Dynamic security enabled printer

Certain HP printers are intended to work only with cartridges that have a new or reused HP chip or electronic circuitry. These printers use dynamic security measures to block cartridges using a non-HP chip or electronic circuitry. Periodic firmware updates will maintain the effectiveness of these measures and block cartridges that previously worked. Reused HP chips and electronic circuitry enable the use of reused, remanufactured, and refilled cartridges.

The only thing I didn't like is that it doesn't have a screen where you can see the menu and other options on display. Very easy to operate and install.

But I need to scan stuff to my laptop in order to email it. The hp tech tried to get it installed but said firewall was keeping it out. I need a CD to get it installed properly.

I cannot use some of these features because you are required to download an app. Sometimes it recognizes the printer and sometimes it doesn't. It's become very frustrating. I wish we could have the printer and scanner from the old days and didn't need 800 login points just to do one task

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Glow Lights. Ooooooo Pretty. Honestly the white is pretty fly, and it does tell you that it has a dope light sitting underneath the outport. Looks pretty nice with all the other white computer things. Nice accent to the desk. 10/10 would reocmend for the style alone. I have not used it enough to rate the ink usage rate. I am a little skeptical because I just got rid of my 4520 printer that would use an ink cartridge for 2 pieces of paper(it was a little more) but at such a high price, it was cheaper to buy this one and buy two new inks than it was to keep that one operational.

It looks neat and elegant to me and at the same time provides quality printing job. The HP Smart app on the mobile phone is very easy to use and sync with this printer. I have no issues at all with using this. Simply the best HP product I've ever purchased.

Should be a way of turning it off. Also sometimes it crinkles the paper and jams up even with little paper in it. Not very happy with this machine.

M husband bought a Canon printer which had a lot of features, he passed away and I decided to continue using the Canon printer, It uses 5 ink cartridges, I print a lot of stuff so it was getting very expensive to use the Canon printer, decided to go back to an HP printer, so far I love it and love the fact that it only has 2 ink cartridges.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Thank God I Bought I Costco The printer goes to sleep and wakes up when you unplug it and plug it back in. DO NOT BUY THIS PRINTER. It's horrible. I have tried to print from several different devices and it just, won't, go! Sad really. We had a canon for 10 years and we thought we would upgrade to faster, easier, better. We downgraded to doesn't work, frustrated and horrible. I just spent 2 hours trying to print my taxes. Can you make this any more complicated? Good luck trying to figure out how to turn it off and on! Where is the on and off button- oh, it's basically unplugging it? Ok. Whoever made this printer should be fired. Thank You Costco for taking pieces of junk back like this.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Run for the Hills Would give zero stars if possible. Absolute trash. It is 2022 and no printer should be this frustrating. The fact that I have to use an app that does not work to print a simple piece of paper is atrocious. If the app doesn't work, which it doesn't, then I don't care how great the printer is, you can't use it! And that's coming from a millennial who lives on their phone. Fix your app and maybe your printers will actually work, just a thought. The two times it has successfully printed, it works fine, albeit painfully slow. If you are not looking to fight tooth and nail with an external factor when printing at home, look elsewhere.

The constant blue light would be a problem if it was in a dorm room or bedroom, etc. If there is a way to turn it down or off I have not found it. I have also had problems with it going to sleep and having to unplug it and restart. I hope these are just "new equipment" troubles. As far as printing, etc. it works well and no complaints.

I may not be tech savvy but every HP wireless printer I have bought I have never had so much trouble to get it working. I can’t even get to the manual to print out to get help. I would rather pay extra to have printed manual and a disk to download.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Functionality and quality. this is suppose to be plug and play.. there are no instructions, does not function well as a home Business printer. Material is flimsy. On off switch is on the back. Many people place printers on shelves or in cabinets. My H printer was not functioning and work was backing up. I really just needed to plug and play and nothing was as it was. Tried scanning, no way to do from the printer, and no port for memory sticks, So open the computer yes you can scan from the computer to the printer , scanning from the printer to the computer works you just don't know where it went.. so it's useless. I would not recommend this printer for any small business or home office. My former was faster and quieter too. It was a work horse. This is one is pain. All the SMART stuff takes additional time to set up.. and mess with when you are just trying to get the job done. So if you have the time and talent with out any info you might be able to make this printer more helpful.. I just needed it to work.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Disappointing The good - photos came out very nice. I like that I can print using wifi. The bad - I couldn't find a way to scan paper and turn it into a pdf. That is one of the main reasons I purchased it, it seems like it should be super easy to do. Also, I had to set up an account just to use the scanning functions. It was a very slow process, just typing the info to set up the account was snail-like. I waste so much time and paper trying to get my scans done. I will never buy another printer HP (or other brand) that doesn't make it easy to use for standard tasks.

My only issue is I've gotten a couple of error messages when printing the last two times I printed documents. I've been unable to diagnose what the issue is, though. It's a new printer and shouldn't be doing this so early.

The setup is ridiculously simple (different parts of the printer light up in conjunction with the instructions), the printing is fast and crisp, and I love it only has two cartridges. No more trying to fax over VOIP, the wireless fax feature is awesome.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worthless printer This printer is complete garbage. It's never worked reliably for me. Rarely can complete two print jobs (1-2pgs each) without needing to be restarted. The lack of a display is a terrible design decision. Whatever perceived cost savings come from it are far offset by the utter lack of usability or clarity around what's going around. Also, the instant ink subscription is not worth it. DO NOT SIGN UP FOR IT. Just buy your cartridges.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Printer My old HP printer was not feeding the paper correctly so I purchased this one. Really like the document feeder on top so you can scan multiple pages at once. Was having problems with not being connected to the network but learned that my router was too close to the printer. Moved it about 3 or 4 feet away and now it stays connected. Really like it so far.

It installs and prints, but your installation software is crap. I talked with someone at support and they say I am enrolled in Instant Ink, but my printer will not connect.

I needed a replacement but the stores taht I checked did not have a suitable printer for my Chromebook. I was advised at a brick and mortor store to go online to check. HP customer support researched what would work best. Their solution was right on. The instant ink option saves mey money and is convenient.

I still don't know what each colored but is for and there was nothing that explained that. I feel like they push you to use HP smart rather than just have a button that says copy and another that says scan, etc.

After one whole day trying to figure it out, I got it to pair up, but then I had to work several more hours to get it to pair up with my chrome book. My old HP was a touch screen and I wish I would have spent the extra money and gotten another one. I really hate this new printer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It does the the job! I found it difficult to set up. I had to spend 30 minutes on line with a technician to get it to work with my Chromebook. There are directions to use with PC's or MAC's but nothing for CB. Once set up, it works great, is fast and quiet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from If you care about privacy, look somewhere else. I tried to help my dad set up his new Envy Pro 6458 printer. He is very private and strictly wanted to use the USB cable -- no WiFi. Printing was easy. Once we put paper in, it printed. HP doesn't give you much ink to start with. After only 20 sheets, the black ink was down about 40%. Next, I tried to get the scanner going. HP Smart (the required software) requires a Microsoft account in order to download it from the app store. Once it was finally loaded, I hit Scan but couldn't until we also created an HP Cloud account. Remember, my dad is a private guy so he tries to avoid creating more on-line accounts. I reluctantly created one for him. Finally with everything set up I tried to scan again but was not able to. It turns out that scanning directly to the computer is impossible. You must have the printer connected to the WiFi and the internet and your only scanning option is to scan to your cloud account. I don't know how you retrieve your document after that point because we decided to put it back in the box. This is too much money to pay for a printer alone. He will be returning it soon. I will be avoiding HP for a while.

Definitely worth purchasing the printer with a screen/monitor window thingy. It is annoying to have to refer to the user manual in order to know what button to press.

It frequently loses wifi connection (despite multiple other devices in the home not having this problem), frequently jams, runs out of ink quickly, and is very hard to use. Any jams or interface problems must be identified and fixed by following instructions on the application, which is slow and not user friendly. Do not recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sleek design for a powerful printer/scanner This is a great printer with a sleek, clean look. Print easily from anywhere, and enjoy the cool features of this printer. The first thing I noticed was the sleek design. It has a thin and hidden paper tray, and nearly hidden touchpad without buttons. Overall, the printer has a very clean look. The second thing I noticed was that the cord is short. Unless your placing the printer directly in front of your outlet, you’ll need a power strip. I liked the pleasant little beep responses during different operations. You can adjust the volume of these in the HP app. One little frown....the printer spits your printed papers onto floor unless the small paper arm is extended. But, so has every other home printer I have owned. The printer is fairly quite while printing. Not silent, but not obtrusive. The clicks of the printer docking the ink is about a medium volume and the scanner function was quiet. The printing quality was as expected from HP. The pages were printed at a good speed. I also had very quality photo printing. I think the functionality of the printer is what I expect from HP. Good printing and ink that doesn’t break the bank. This printer has all the features, even if you were a home business instead of just a large busy family. I would recommend it to you for either uses! I did receive this printer for free in agreement to post a fair and impartial review. I have a family member looking for a new printer and I am recommending this one after my experience with it.

Scans a tad slow but not a deal breaker. Love that I have 4 free 300-pg months of printing when I signed up for HP Instant Ink.

It does not have touch screen commands which is what I wanted. Also, the only way to fax is through your cell phone. I did not want that either. So I returned it and purchased another printer.

This printer has a sleek and modern look. The white color brightens up my office. I was surprised that there is no longer a touchscreen menu. Instead, there are only icons (no words) and you can only see them when they light up. As a result, there is a slight learning curve as you get to know how to trigger them with various printer actions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality just different Really just needed a print and copy machine but for the price why not get scan and mobile fax as well... never know if those functions will be needed. No issues setting printer up and connecting via hp smart app on Android and windows OS. Prints media very clear, good quality both color and black. Photos are pretty good quality too. It took a bit of trial and error to figure the hp smart app out, but once I've tried everything a few times, it's pretty easy to navigate. Tech support is chat, commonly asked questions, or phone call, I really haven't needed to use it but once and I used the common question to solve my issue. There is no touch screen, just the app which makes it "different " for me to use. I'm just used to a touch screen vs. the app. The reason I give it 4 stars is because the power and wifi buttons are on the back bottom of the printer and I have to pull the printer sideways to find them and the wifi button is very small, recessed and difficult to press. Using in a home office, space is at a premium. It would have been nice to have those buttons on the front toward the top to make it easier to access them. Overall, it is a nice quality printer and I would suggest buying it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect all-around printer I had to upgrade my old HP printer, and I have a Mac, so I knew my options would be limited. I settled on the Envy 6455 because it has all the features I was looking for and it can be used with the Instant Ink program. I absolutely hated having to buy expensive ink all the time. That was the main reason for upgrading. I am so happy with my purchase. The printer looks nice and performs very well. No issues whatsoever, although I haven't gotten around to printing from my mobile phone yet. The fact that is an option is so cool. I would recommend this printer to any Mac user!

I could not print from a 2nd PC connected via a cable connection. I could not find any manuals on HP's site to assist me. I will contact the installer tomorrow for assistance.

I have used tons of different brands of printers before, but this was by far the easiest set up and printing process every! It is wireless, which made me a little skeptical at first but it works really well. It is very easy to set up, took me about 15 minutes which on the app, shows real-time moving images and descriptions of how to set it up, making it THAT much easier. I was also able to install the app onto my laptop in order to print from both my laptop and my phone!! The printer has very good quality and speedy printing process. I have tried printing from a further location without wifi without luck though, so you need to be connected to wifi in order to print away from home. I also LOVE the ink plan with this printer! I print A LOT for school and being on a budget and only having to worry about paying $5 a month and picking up paper is great. This printer literally orders ink when it needs to and if you do not use all the pages in your plan for that month, they roll over to the next month which is a feature I literally have never seen on a printer before and makes this one super unique. I have this printer on top of a cube organizer in my bedroom and it honestly does not take up too much space at all. It is slim and chic and the printing tray can easily slide back into the printer if I need to open my closet door. The only thing I wish it did was go into a sleep mode when not in use. It has a blue light under the scanning area that stays on all the time that can be bothersome but is not something stopping me from using this product. I really think it works great!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice printer! I got this printer in a few days ago and it's been great so far! The glowing signal light on it is really cool and I love that it changes colors. Set up is pretty easy but you do need to download two apps on your phone to it. I am disappointed that it doesn't come with a user manual and that you have to figure out how to use the printer functions on the app. The print quality is great and it prints a 2-sided document flawlessly. You can make copies just from scanning with your phone. It says that it can reduce/enlarge copies by 25-200% on the HP website but I have not been able to figure out how to do that. It also doesn't have the option to print 2 pages in one. Those are functions I use often so I don't think this printer will work for me. I print a lot of sewing patterns and it would be nice to see the app have the option to print at 100% scale or no scaling at all. Overall it is a great printer but it doesn't work for me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Power Switch I am a fan of HP products. Just bought my new Envy Pro 6455 on line, the power switch is in the back and is hard to get to when shutting down the system. I always turn off my electronics when not in use. Also I could not get my HP computer to accept the printer. (Wish I had a disk to install because we live in a dead zone it took 3 hours to accept by wifi)

Downloaded the free HP app. The app kept asking if I wanted to add more users so I have four people connected to it. I go to the app hit phot, take a picture and that fast it is printed. Love it.

We have went to the web site down loaded problems with window 10 followed the instructions, tried contacting tech services, they are never available, ect.

Very easy setup - download the HP smart app and it shows you each step, including wireless, with lights at the base of the printer indicating what step you're on during setup - quite fast. Small unit with a very sleek design with control buttons in the front panel that only activate when needed. Cartridge installation is fast and easy. Neat cartridges do not leak. The app includes a service to send new ink when the machine is running low. Everything can be controlled with the app. This machine does it all - scan, print, fax. It even includes a document feeder for larger jobs. It prints a little slower than some, but that is made up by the clear quality of the copies. I'm happy.

But every time I go to print, even though the printer is on, the wifi is lit up on it and my computer and phone show it, it says "printer not connected" or "printer offline." Every SINGLE time I print, I have to go unplug my router, unplug the printer, and then plug everything back in. Instead of taking me 2 minutes to print a sheet a paper, it takes me 15 minutes every time to do all of that.

It is the biggest piece of "crap" (and that is not a bad word)I have ever bought. Every time I go to use it, it freezes and I have to plug it in and start it all over again. I do print out a lot of material but it went through one cartridge in a day and a half. I would go through returning it and get a refund but I am just starting finals and I don't have the time. There no good instructions.Please do not buy this. It is not that expensive, but I guess you get what you pay for. I will never buy an HP product again. I would pay 10x if I could get a better printer that works. (Actually, I bought another one first that was promised would fit in my cabinet and it didn't come close).

I detest the fact that so many features are only useable if you have the phone app. I work on a desktop with my printer right beside me. Why would I want to use a phone to make it work? The few buttons on it are not marked or mentioned in the useless “manual” of a few lines. I may just give it away!

I love the fact that I can print from my phone and/or computer. This will help with my the kids school work and I can easily print emails, documents, etc.

Set up the printer while at home, used it as it would be used in RV using a mobile hot spot - it worked as it should. Now we are away from home using the printer the same way it was used at home where it worked. Now the printer is offline and does not want to connect. This is the third time I have tried to use the printer and it has been offline every time I tried. Attempted multiple "fixes" and none of them have worked. When the printer works it is good, but I don't have the time or patience to "fix" this issue every time I want to use the printer. I used it on my laptop at home and it worked fine, I used it on my phone at home it worked fine. Now that I am away from home it doesn't work on my laptop and it doesn't work with my phone, it just stays "OFFLINE". For me this printer is useless. I am sorry that I purchased it. During the "return" time it worked now that I am unable to return it nothing but problems.

I had an older printer and the wifi never worked with sending Edocs so I had to use a USB to transfer to the printer. I love the glow. Its clean. No complaints

After that I spent at least 3 hours between 2 calls with a HP tech. to get it to operate fully. The tech was very helpful, but without him I would have been helpless. Also, wish the on/off switch was on the front of the printer.

However set up using the HP smart app on my phone was effortless. Once you get use to the buttons and commands you will not miss the display. I am a crafter and often had issues with previous printers feeding my thick vinyl or sticker paper. However the 6455 picks up the paper with ease. I have not had to worry about any jams or lines on my prints.

Although I wanted a screen, was willing to sacrifice for price. However, this printer is advertised as being to handle legal media. YOU CANNOT USE LEGAL PAPER WITH THIS PRINTER DESPITE SPECS. Really disappointing considering I just got a great deal on legal paper. Unfortunately, there's a restocking fee if you return. I thought I wouldn't miss screen,but if you had a screen you will miss it. Lastly, the background light stays on All The Time! The set up was a pain, but once set up it works good. Save money with only 2 cartridges and prints as if it had 4. Overall good printer, but wish I spent a couple more bucks for screen and wish HP was transparent about paper handling.

In the past, I've often been let down by the speed of other printers, especially with double-sided printing, but this device is very fast, and I have yet to have any issues with the feed of the paper. Another aspect that I really love about this printer is the size and look. My past one was very chunky and, to be honest, ugly, but this one looks fantastic, and it can be set pretty much anywhere and not look out of place. I'm very happy overall with this printer.

However, this is the most confusing and difficult to work printer I've ever had. Terrible. I've come close to throwing it on the ground out of frustration. The ENVY feels much less robust in its movable parts. It feels and functions like a $150.00 device, not an HP product. It performs its functions adequately. Not spectacularly. I have always wanted easier and more immediate access to User Guides and not have to go to the HP website to search and download them.

It also connected to my husband's iPad, and he was able to send a copy to our printer while he was at work. Very convenient. The setup was very simple, and the print quality is excellent. We printed out a pdf of a land survey, and it came out very detailed. Very pleased.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Disappointed buyer I bought this printer by phone directly from HP after learning my HP Envy 4520 scanning function could not be fixed. They recommended this printer. I'm disappointed because the Envy 4620 was so simple to operate in comparison to the Envy 6455. With the 6455 I'm needing to refer to its online manual repeatedly which is very time consuming. This may turn out to be a very good printer but it's not worth all the additional time I've spent to learn what the various buttons do.

The printer was incredibly easy to assemble and get going, the HP app literally takes you step by step and shows you moving diagrams of what you are supposed to do, etc (although there is a ton of blue tape you have to take off, some of which appears to serve no purpose, but I'm sure it must). Connecting to Wifi was easy through the app as well. Maybe I'm a sucker for flash, but I love the color changing LED mood lighting the thing gives off. It makes it easy to see how the print job looks while it's printing and generally just looks cool. The print quality is probably about what you'd expect from this type of printer, but I thought it looked pretty good. No issues with photos or text. The only downside I have found is that when I tried to print a PDF using the HP app on my phone it told me that PDF was not supported, which, what? Why? That seems pretty short sighted, so I took a star off for that.

The white model was sleek and looked chic on my desk. I felt that the printer was easy to set up and I loved the bluetooth capabilities to print wirelessly. It was easy to setup. I didn't need to contact tech support so cannot comment on their service. The printing was clear and the colors were bright.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I am disappointes I am profoundly unhappy with the HP Envy Pro 6455. It is, by far, the worst printer that I've ever owned. Almost all copies are crooked,even when processed through the document feeder.Documents that I print are off center and most times the top 0.25-0.50" is cut off with faded areas. The paper jams frequently and the paper tray door seems broken and is very difficult to close; when it does close all of the paper just slides to the front of the tray, unchecked, because there's nothing to hold it in place. All of my scans have been crooked and skewed and smeared. When opening the top to place a document on the glass it either slams shut or yanks the printer backward so I'm forced to hold the top up with my hand at all times. When lowering the heavy, awkward top it knocks the paper out of place and I've been forced to use a piece of tape to hold every single piece of paper in place for every copy that I need to make. Stores don't carry the toner because HP wants you to sign up for auto shipment, which I did 3 weeks ago, but my computer (I've tried it on 3 computers) and my phone are unable to communicate with the printer to active the auto shipment monitoring. I've followed the steps to connect (as did my IT savvy friend) and also the steps to follow when the printer won't print the page with the code (because it won't print the page with the code) and it just WILL NOT work. I've also been unable to Wi-Fi connect the printer to ANYTHING and that is the simplest task that a device can perform. I've ordered $5 devices from W**h and had better luck. Until now I've only owned HP printers, probably 7 in my adulthood, and the Envy Pro makes me feel like I need to reevaluate my loyalty. I only purchased this useless paperweight 3 weeks ago and I wish that I still had the box because it needs to be returned and trashed by the store or by HP. It seems like it fell off of the end of the assembly line and went into "malfunction" mode as part of the process of making it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far, disappointed. After more than 2+1/2 hours to get this all-in-one set up, the setup is still not complete. I've owned HP products for many years, and have always been a fan of the quality of their output, and the ease with which the intuitive setup flowed. During my 1st telephone call to an HP tech for my current all-in-one, I was misdirected despite his being online with me by remote, and despite my explanations of the problems and the needs. (For ex, I own an Apple MacBook Pro laptop, and an iPhone. My partner owns 2 Windows based computers (1 tower PC & 1 laptop) plus an iPhone.) The only problem I've ever had with previous HP printers or all-in-ones has been that they didn't communicate well with my Apple laptop. I was assured that this would not be a problem with this ENVY when I was discussing which all-in-one to purchase with HP Sales. After an inordinate period of time on the phone with HP Tech this first attempt, I had to move onto other things. I was given a case # to provide when retrying another time. The next day, I called HP Tech again, and explained the purpose, yet when I offered the case #, they said that that was a Windows case #! This was indeed after my telling the 1st Tech rep that I was dealing exclusively from Apple systems in order to set up this all-in-one; and despite his viewing / sharing my screen by remote, and guiding me along by pointing out prompts, etc., in order to proceed. It turns out that HP has a different area for Windows systems from its division for Apple systems. It doesn't seem as tho' these 2 areas communicate well with each other, either, within HP. Another hour+plus conversation, and still not completely set up. What I have been able to test has been very clumsy, clunky, and all-too-time-consuming. I wonder what happened to the lovely efficiency of my prior HP machines??? Disappointed...

Only a very brief set-up instruction comes in the box essentially telling you to download the HP Smart app. No mention is made of loading the ink cartridges and paper which are needed for the set-up. I am reasonably tech savvy, but after a frustrating 1/2hour of trying to get the Wi-Fi connection established I went to HP’s on-line chat for help. I went round in circles with the chat guy who eventually gave up and directed me to call HP support. This was tricky, firstly I had to establish a case number, then the guy wanted to charge me $59.99 before he would do anything for me. Once I had explained that I was trying to set up a new printer, the guy told me he would redirect me to the In-Warranty tech support group (a different 800 number). This guy was very helpful but even he was baffled for a while as to why the printer was failing to connect to my computer (or vice-versa). It took many “try this” and “try that” attempts and re-installation of the HP Smart app. to eventually have a “eureka” moment. So, 3+ hours later I had a functioning printer. How much must this have cost HP in tech support time? I suspect far more than the old way of proper written instructions and a CD disc in the box. Oh well, that’s progress!! The printer itself seems to be a nice product, but the set-up process was a hassle for me.

It does not have the panel which told you what error you’re experiencing, nor does it show the videos to help solve your printer problem. I just needed a new printer, but I wanted one with the same features I already had.

I am extremely disappointed, and the ink cartridges cost 35 dollars each, which means that it is cheaper for me to go to print at a printing service than to have this product. I demand a refund.

Every single time I need to use it, it is always offline and takes several round of unplugging it and re-plugging it to finally have it connect to my computer. Occasionally, it doesn't connect at all, even going through troubleshooting and updating all drivers. When attempting to scan, it works the first time. However, after trying to scan a separate document through the HP Smart app, I kept receiving a message along the lines of "scan was cancelled at printer", when it was NOT cancelled. Unplugging/resetting was once again unsuccessful, as not the printer status just continually shows "offline" again. I've attempted to do this on two different computers. The printer should be nice if the software actually worked.

Other electronics I bought over the past few years at least had a manual I could print out if I needed it. But not this printer. How are all features usable if no instructions? It is not intuitive, but we do like what features we have learned. Other features will remain a mystery.

No manual with it. Half sheet of paper with 3 steps...remove all tape from printer, download app to install, plug it in to start the set up process. I tried for a week to get the printer “set up” with no luck. Tried the virtual chat assistant to try to get it set up, ended up accidentally closing out the chat session while performing one of the troubleshoot things. Tried on my own again the next day. Finally ended up calling to talk to an actual human, that ended up being a 2 1/2 hour long headache that ended with me demanding my money back.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worse Printer I've ever had - and I've had many It only connects 20-30% of the time. I am logged onto the same WIFI as it. It shows it is connected to said WIFI. The app says it offline. I connect, disconnect. Turn on. Turn off. Click around... Sometimes it finally connects, sometimes it doesn't and I just don't print. I spent HOURS on the phone with customer services after I switched WIFI carriers and it would not reconnect at all. The person I spoke to was at least very nice and even called to follow up twice after I had to disconnect the call to join a meeting, so that was positive. When it does print, it's slow (but for it's size and price point, I am sure it's normal and is fine for what I am printing from home- also I am used to industrial sized machines that spit out 100 sheets a minute, so I am tainted there.) The print and scan quality is good- when I am able to print or scan... I am very disappoint that I am going to have to throw this junk away and buy a new printer.

I grew up and went to school with the Hewlett kids in Palo Alto. I would never buy anything not HP. However, this printer jams paper, the controls are weird and the whole phone app thing is confusing and unworkable. I can't find info on the internet about how it works. I would need to purchase a newer smart phone for the app control thing to work. So sadly, this is the worst HP product I have ever purchased. Very disappointed.

After several attempts to hook up to WiFi without a USB cable I gave up. We only bought this to replace our Envy 4500 which jammed. When preparing to recycle the 4500, I checked to see if I could remove the ink cartridges and it unjammed. I am planning to see how well it holds up and if it does I will give the 6455 another try.

I am working from home and my employer was reimbursing me for the ink. They mentioned the frequency that I was purchasing ink that I could get an inkjet printer for what I had spent on ink. I went on line and purchased the HP Envy Pro 6455 and so far love it. This is only by 2nd week of use. Only one problem I ran out of ink at 150 copies. Not sure if I got a bad batch or not, but called HP and they were making an emergency shipment to me so I would not have to let my work fall behind.

There is no way on the printer to see the status of the printer or even find the IP address of the printer. Not everyone on the planet has Microsoft Windows. Without this you are in the dark how to get this printer up and running. When we got bogged down and called HP we got the famous tag-team help people. If someone did not know the answers they would hand us off to another HP tag-team who did not know the answers until we finally gave up and got it running on our own and we have no idea how we did it. What a great product

After those two weeks the printer constantly tells me I'm offline and refuses to print. I have to restart my computer and restart the printer to get it to work and that is not always a guarantee. Another issue is the hp 67 black ink cartridge has been the hardest thing to find, it seems that all stores are out of stock in my area, I could not even order off of amazon. I had to use the app to order some, however this is not always helpful when you need the ink asap. Using the app for almost everything is convenient for certain features, but is a major annoyance for others.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Horrible!!!! I literally just spent 30 minutes to set up this horrible product. That should have been a red flag in itself. A waste of time and money. Now I have to waste additional time to return it. HP should really be ashamed. It takes an eternity to print a single (1) document of 25 words (this was my test print only). I can only imagine how long it would take me actually print contracts. And let's not talk about the set up app. Nothing explains what the icons on the printer mean. I only knew the paper feed was the paper feed because I've worked with other printers but if I hadn't had that experience I would have never known where the paper feed was located. Nothing was provided in the box nor on the set up app that was helpful. You literally just have to guess where things go and how things work. You have to figure out on your own what the icons on the printer mean, you have to figure out where the paper feed is located, and you have to figure out how and where the ink goes. If you don't have experience with printers the set up app will not be helpful for you at all as it assumes you're already familiar and the "set up" is actually to "set up an HP account" and to set you wifi connection. Because I've only had it one night I can't speak for the ease of connectivity and sadly I will not have it long enough to test it all. The delay in printing an actual document is an immediate no for me but if you don't anticipate printing documents with multiple pages it may work for you. I couldn't imagine sitting and waiting to print a 10-15 page contract on it. Also, it could be bc the ink cartridge isn't the full quality since it's freebie, but it's pretty dull. Definitely wouldn't use it for any professional documents like a resume, etc..

I emailed hp and this was the recommendation-suppose to be compatible with my Chromebook. I tried for a week to get it connected and I haven't had any success. At this point I'm wondering is it really compatible? I was going to try again and then write my review but decided against it because it shouldn't be this hard! For now I'm using a usb cable because I have to get things done but I'm not happy about it! I also agree with others-it's too loud and takes to long to boot up.

I have had about 16 printer busy errors so far and nothing seems to be fixing it. It’s pretty ridiculous that I am troubleshooting this printer and it’s only my first day of use.

Finally for your printer to stop working and having them replace it with an equally defective printer. Don’t try to contact support they will transfer you around each department and refuse to let you speak to a supervisor. because the advisors on chat will disconnect from you once you tell them the problem. If you have an HP printer that is still under warranty try and return it to the retailer don’t make my mistake and contact support. Terrible service and terrible product.

The replacement was delivered so quickly I was amazed. I had a few gliches initially but with HP support these were ironed out and now it is working like a charm. I use it mainly for printing two sided pages for a book that is in progress and it has been flawless so far. I love the fact that it appears to think for itself without a small touch screen where you can easily hit the wrong symbol I looks smart and takes up very little room next to my writing desk.

Since installing it a few months ago, it has been a constant headache. Frequently, even when trying to print from HP's accompanying app "HP PrintSmart," the printer will simply not respond to print jobs. Almost every time we need to use it, we need to fuss to get reconnected to the printer. Usually this means restarting the printer and the computer, signing back in to the HP web account which we had to create in order to use the printer, and trying again. After going through all of these motions, the printer will then print all of the jobs it refused to before, wasting a stupid amount of ink. It seems to only be able to print PDFs, and the scanning features are also inconvenient and fail frequently. Other, better, things you can buy with $149: 21 pounds of pistachios. 15 kitchen trashcans 500 bouncy balls A better printer.

Only reason for a 3 star is the light doesn't turn off unless you turn printer completely off. This is to much to always do every night. Also i have to download an app to use any other features other than print. Not happy with it but will have to use it till I need another one.

In frustration and tears, I called the HP company. They were very helpful. My computer was older...3 years old...and I needed an up date. They got me with a company tech that took over my computer and fixed everything. Now I can use and have fun with my new updates computer and printer. Yeah

Then scan VR box code to cellphone, followed the prompts. Printer found the computer and the home network. After a log in and two passwords, I printed the test page and scanned the alignment print out. First print job was a picture I have been wanting to display of my Grandchildren. Not bad for an Boomer eh?

Plus no way to scan a doc electronically. Id go pull the old one out of the trash if I could because I could scan and put on a stick. Not sure how "pro" this copier is. At least give the customer a way to scan to a file on a private network. I told the wife not to buy HP again...stuck with another trash can.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One Stop Shop Printer I received this printer at no charge to review but I have to say, I'm really glad I was chosen to participate because it is a one stop shop for all of my printing/copying and scanning needs. This printer is not like any of the previous hp printers I have used in the past due to the fact that I didn't need a manual to figure out which buttons does what but once you get past that little hurdle, it's super easy to handle. Also, it is important to mention that you need to download the HP smart app from the app store in order to connect the printer to your WiFi and use other features like scanning your paperwork as well as faxing it. Once you get past of all of these, and figure out/get used to the buttons on the printer, everything else should be relatively easy. The printer is portable and can fit well in any corner of your office or wherever you choose to operate it from. The printing is pretty fast and the print quality is exceptional. The colors were really bright and very colorful. I had a few paper jams but it was not anything I couldn't fix. So with all this being said, this is a great printer for an office and or a home office and has now become my go to printer. Lastly, this printer comes with two cartridges- one black and one color cartridge.

I was having issues with my older compact printer that took about a minute to print a single sheet, whereas this works phenomenally quick for its size! It has been very convenient having a scanner on a small machine, and I find that this uses ink efficiently. Easy to set up and connect devices. Very happy with this printer!

If you work from home and this is the printer that you need, it is affordable and very conveient. I will definitely recommend this printer.

I've already had to call HP and get it replaced once. It always tells me I am out of paper when I am not out of paper and prevents me from printing my documents. I usually give up and just keep turning it on and off and hopefully by some sort of miracle the printer decides to print my documents. I will NEVER recommend this printer to everyone. I thought with the amount of money I spent on this printer, it would do everything I ask for. I am very tempted to sell this printer, and buy a cheaper printer because honestly I am sick and tired of this printer not printing when I need it to.

The print heads started to fail so it was time to upgrade. This Envoy fit the bill very well. It has the two cartridge ink system but our current usage is down to just home use so it is perfect for us. I also like the white case and small size of this unit. It prints very good and even prints my photos that are posted on my walls. I do recommend this printer.

For these features, this printer is quite a revelation to me, and it seems like a miracle when I can print something from anywhere in the house, even from my phone. Set up was a little persnickety, however, and with one of my computers, it gives weird errors every time I try to print something, and requires the printer to be unplugged and replugged for every single document on that computer. Using the HP Smart programs seemed more cumbersome than just using Windows to search for printers as well. Overall, I'm super happy with my purchase, and the instant ink programs is kind of awesome to never worry about ink levels.

In order to get it to connect I always had to unplug and plug in several times to get it to connect. Tried contacting HP, no support at all. Downloaded manual for a manual set up but the instructions were confusing and poorly explained. After a 2 hour test of the hardware the printer was determined to be defective. Also, color ink is one cartridge which requires replacement even if just one color runs out which is an expensive disadvantage.

Often when I try to print something, the app on my phone indicates the printer is unavailable but won't give a reason. Then when looking at the printer, there are no error codes and it's in a ready state. The scanner seems to work the best but when doing anything else it's frustrating to use.

My one complaint it there is no screen; only a hard-to-read panel (I had trouble finding it) but hopefully, I will get use to it. The Instaink is great! I have this feature with another HP printer and was glad this one has it to...never have to worry about running out...and never have to put the big bucks out at one time. The setting up was a little tricky for me because I'm not very tech savy, but I am almost 90 years old and I did get it done by myself! I would recommend this printer, but if a screen is important for viewing different functions, look for a different model.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Small and still does it all! The HP ENVY PRO 6455 is an improvement over the 4100 series that I have been using. I was given this printer to test and review. While the paper tray is small I like it so much better than the vertical paper feed. It prints decently fast. It has auto two sided print. You can print, scan, copy and for 24 months send mobile fax through the smart app. The mobile fax is the only thing I haven’t used yet. The size is really nice because it has a smaller footprint than a lot of the all in one printers. The lack of a control panel is a minus for me - while there are lights that sometimes light up you must do most things from the smart app. The Wi-Fi works great and I can easily print from my phone. While it’s missing a few things that a more expensive printer has, it’s a great printer at that price point.

The 4630 was a great printer which you could see the controls. The off button on the 6455 is in the back. It came with no instruction book and unable to use fax, but is reviewed as an all-in-one printer. The 4630 jam the paper and I could not clear the printer and since it was older I decided to get new one. I wish now I had taken the 4630 to be repaired or un-jammed.

In the 3 weeks I have had it, I've had to call support 4 times. As originally installed, it would only scan to its HP Smart program. (It still doesn't play well with Adobe) It is constantly going offline - this is NOT a wifi problem. The wifi button is solid blue. Since there is no screen, the only way to try to fix it is to download yet another program, the HP Printer Doctor. That tool says that it can't communicate with the printer but doesn't fix the problem. The printer cover (the part you lift to get to the glass) and the lid (the part you lift to get to the ink) are easily confused if you aren't paying attention. There is a hand grip for one, but not the other. The power button is on the back, and is flat against the printer which makes it hard to find without turning the printer around. It also doesn't seem to actually do anything. (I had to pull the power cord to turn it off). I've had HP printers before. This one is awful

Rated 5 out of 5 by from DON'T BUY THIS PRINTER! I've had this printer for 6 months and had nothing but problems with it. First, it will print when it "feels like" printing. About 1/3 of the time, it will not print. You will need to UNPLUG the printer, let sit for 1-2 minutes, reconnect the power, wait 1-2 minutes for reboot, then cross your fingers. I've learned to live with that routine until most recently, where the paper feed constantly jams. When it doesn't jam, it now crops about 1/2" from the margin. The printer is now useless to me. HP Support is a joke. I can't speak with anyone. Spare your time and frustration on this HP product.

I have spoken to at least two support people to resolve our issues: not printing and the printer going 'offline' for no known reason. One finally determined that this printer does not work with a mesh system, so we need to unplug the printer so it can find the "right" wireless to print from. There is no mention of this when you compare features of different computers. A few days ago, the printer once again went offline and I cannot get it back online. So, I can call support once again and plan to be on the phone for 60-90 minutes (how long I was on hold and working through the issues previously).

I have spent 10 plus hours trying to set up wireless and still no connection. Using only the print function via serial cable. Extremely dissatisfied with the printer and the total lack of any real support. I will share this experience with my employees, my friends, and my extended network.

It seemed very easy to set up. You just install the app on your phone, remove all of the tape on the printer, and plug it in. The app will guide you through adding it your wireless network and the rest of the setup. There are very few buttons on it. It is controlled through the phone app or a program you install on your computer. I am impressed with the quality of the printing. The colors are bright and the print is clear. You don't usually see a printer this small with a scanner and document feeder. The only thing I don't like is the light where the paper exits. It changes colors depending on what the printer is doing. The problem with the light is it can't be turned off. You can reduce the brightness, but if you have the printer in a room you sleep in you may need to cover the front of it. Luckily it's wireless so it can be put in any room. It is probably a little slow for a business printer, but is great for a family printer that can be used for kids homework making copies, and printing flyers.

Sometimes printing just 1/2 of the image on the page and other times not printing anything. Not sure why. I don’t print a lot of items so this has not been a big issue.

I'm not a novice when it comes to IT issues and I can usually troubleshoot items that aren't working correctly, but I have yet to be able to fix the issues with this printer. The software is super buggy. I keep needing to delete and re-add the printer in order to get it to work. Even then, the scan feature keeps telling me it's "unavailable," though the printer is recognized on the network just fine. I cannot get it to print an envelope correctly, even though the formatting in Word is correct. Because there is no menu screen on the printer itself, pretty much everything needs to be done through the setup software, which is terrible. If I hadn't thrown away the original packaging, I would return it.

The connectivity to WiFi is great as I have computers on different floors in the house and I have no problem printing from any of them. I did a lot of "research" of other brands before this purchase, but I always end up coming back to HP.

Instructions in HP manual are confusing / do not work. Go to Embedded Web Service, then settings - does not work.

This printer is pretty basic though it does do 2-sided printing. It only has one paper tray and is fairly noisy. It is also a lot slower than the machine it replaced. That being said, it is a good value.

This model was no longer available so I purchased the 6455. I have had nothing but problems with it and have spent hours trying to correct problems. Online chat has been no help.

One thing about HP is the difficulty with hooking up the Instant Ink. The printer is on a shared network with another HP printer. One network two shared by two departments that each need to pay for their respective printer. The Insta Ink only recognizes one paye and will not let me have two accounts cause its the same network....

Replacement ink seems reasonable cost-wise and the quality of prints is good. The blue ready light is a nice touch and there have been zero issues with connectivity.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well, it works I replaced an HP Envy 7640. This one has no touch screen control panel. There are some lights with arrows and an X. No manual came with it to tell me what they mean. When it prints, it shoots out the page onto the floor and I have to roll over it in my chair to reach it. The ink is cheaper with the the new printer but the ink program is the same price so I will probably opt out of It soon. I wish it held a full ream of paper. Isn't that a no brainer?

Ignoring the fact that it seems to be out of ink every two seconds after a few pages of printing. The "Load Paper" notification when it clearly has paper in it has to take the cake. I have to open the tray and close it between each page. Let me tell you how much time that takes. The error screen just flashes with little regard for an actual explanation. I want to throw this printer out the window on a daily basis

It lasted many years and then broke. This new HP printer does not fax and it is extremely cumbersome to scan. I have to save the scan to my documents and then attach the document to an email. Then I have to delete the document. I have not idea why they engineers made this procedure so difficult.

There is no display screen on the front, where the shut off should be. I keep my printer turned off when I'm not using it because I print rarely and it uses a LOT of electricity when it's on. So I have to get down on the floor to turn it on and off, which is ridiculous.

I don't keep a smart phone glued to my hand. The PC app always tells you to go to the phone. Why do you have to know everything about me to use this product! Why do you think want all your spam email directed my way and then all the spam from the people you give (sell) my email address too! I'm disappointed with the product manufacture.

We always have to unplug/plug it back, or do some other workaround. The on/off button doesn't work. When it does print the page is very sharp. Don't waste your time on this machine. We might return it, honestly.

Barely useable if you do not want to be connected to wifi 24/7 Ink service will let your prints be invisible and still say that your cartridge is not empty. Buyer's remorse at its highest. I am ready to loose half the price to change it. Never HP ever again.

The setup by cellphone was easy enough but I really botched the setup to my computer and their instructions on this part are either non-existent or otherwise not helpful. Then I was online with an HP person (who was quite wonderful) for 1 1/2 hours and the printer seemed ready to go. Yesterday I needed to print a paper and ...nothing. I'll have to call customer service again. But it's left a bad taste in my mouth, so to speak.

I have wasted many hours trying to troubleshoot this, but the only button on the printer is the power button and the HP "Smart" app does not see it, so I am out of luck. Looking forward to trash day, now.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quiet At first I had difficulties with the power switch, but it seems to have resolved. The biggest disadvantage of this printer is that it does not accept legal size paper. I didn't realize this when I ordered, but if you don't ever use legal size paper or have access to a printer that does, it's a really nice printer. The input tray is hidden, so you don't know when it's empty until the printer won't print.

I bought the EnvyPro6455 at the HP store because it was out of stock in the stores, and was to ship in 2 days. 2 days later got notification that it would not ship for another 7 days. In the mean time it became available at BestBuy. I canceled the HP order and ordered online from Bestbuy and love the curbside pickup in 1 Hr. Brought the box home, unpacked and tried to setup. I did not like the fact that it is very flimsy! I don't like to have to lift the scanner part to install the ink cartridges. Installing cartridges was not as simple as it normally is because the space is too small. Setup wireless, the printer name came up different from what the model is. I connected to to it, but when I tried printing, I received the message that the printer is not available. I powered off, disconnected power cable, uninstalled software and started over and ended up with the same results. So I am returning this one to BestBuy. In the mean time, when I canceled the order from HP, it was not processed, so I called again and canceled, HP did a return to shipper, but when I checked the order status it showed that it was on it's way, but did not say in which direction. I called HP and was told that it was being returned to HP warehouse. Today, 12 days later I received notification that it was received at HP Warehouse! Now the issue is, how long before HP refunds the purchase price?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from All-in-One and Easy to Set Up I received a free HP ENVY Pro 6455 to review and I found this printer was a powerful, compact device with all in one capabilities that include scanning, copying and, of course printing. The printer was very easy to set up out of the box and has a helpful online process that walks you through the steps up set up- from connecting to your preferred wi-fi to installing ink cartridges and downloading the app on the devices you want to print from. It also comes with a 6-month ink trial that send out the first set of ink quickly. The printer also has a light that indicates any errors as well as sounds to alert you to the completion of a print job. This is helpful when I print something that has quite a few pages and want to do something else in the mean time. The app itself is easy to navigate and you only need to click on the process you want to complete (scan, print, etc). It's nice to have a set up that doesn't require wires or fuss. I am sure this printer will serve my family well.

The printer is very easy to set up (just a few cords to plug into the electrical outlet and the machine itself). What I REALLY like is the Bluetooth printing capabilities! I can print a document from any type of device (cell phone, tablet, laptop or desktop) from anywhere in my home (the printer is in my living room, but I find myself wanting to print documents while I am on my phone in my bedroom) without having to switch devices!!!! It has come in very handy and is a time saver. Overall I do like this printer

First, it will not stay connected to the computer/wifi. I have to constantly restart it for it to print. Second, it doesn't communicate well with the HP Smart app, making it difficult to perform the various functions. Third, when using the multipage scanner it pulls the pages to one side more than another and they come out crooked. Finally, it runs out of Ink super fast compared to other printers I own. I give it an average rating because it does work well when it works. However, I spend most of my time using frustrated with the system trying to get it to work and I end up using another printer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bad Purchase I made a mistake buying this printer online without going to a store and getting information on all printers. I have had nothing but aggravation, ex., as I sit here all the lights on the printer are blinking. Why? I have no idea. This printer has small paper capacity, the ink doesn't last but a few weeks (even the XL cartridges) and the cancel print button has not worked. If it goes offline I have trouble getting it back online. The front panel of buttons is not lit so you can't tell what features it has, if any. The power button is on the back which is inconvenient, and I've even had trouble getting the printer to turn off when I'm trying to cancel a print job. However, when I turned the printer back on the print job started up again. Bottom line, this is not the printer for me, and I don't recommend it for those who want a printer that will perform with few problems.

Got my "next day replacement" in 4 business days (a week in real time). The replacement works better but has to be rebooted every time I use it. It works for a bit and then errors out. Definitely not the reliable printer I had hoped for.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great when it works Works great when I can actually get it to print. It's super easy to print something from my phone with the app, but will rarely work from my laptop. It connected just fine, and will accept the print job, and then just sit there for hours on end. Last time I sent something to print around 8 am, and it wouldn't work, wouldn't work, wouldn't work, so I just gave up. Then at like 2pm the next day it randomly started printing like 4 copies of the same thing. It's stupid that there's no display on the actual printer and you have to use the app to do anything. It's like they tried to make it fancier than it needs to be at the detriment of it actually working as a printer. I wish I would've just gotten a cheaper model and avoided the hassle of the whole app.

Also, when it is on, there is a bright light that illuminates and doesn't turn off until you manually shut the printer off. It could be bothersome if the printer is in your bedroom & you forget to shut it off.

I downloaded the app and it literally did everything for me. It was very easy. The app itself is great to use. It has alot of great features and I really like that I can print pictures and they are such great quality. The printing itself is so quick and the colors are perfect. I have used the printer for a few different occasions and so far it's so easy and I have not had any issues at all.

Didn't like that HP has different ink cartridges for every printer meaning you should never buy ahead or you'll be stuck with cartridges you can't use (and they can't always be returned if the package is opened). Otherwise, this printer should work just fine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice Printer After owning an 8600 series all in one for some years, I decided to scale down a bit. The 8600 was a real brute and handled everything I threw at it. The 6455 is a smaller printer was is nice. So far it prints well but I have not tried pictures yet. I did have a bit of a problem loading the software and the printer keep losing the wifi connection, but after deleting and re-loading, it works great now. The paper tray holds about a quarter of what the 8600 did so I find myself adding paper more frequently but no big deal. All in all, I am happy with the 6455.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A good basic printer from HP I received a free sample of this printer to review. This is my experience with setting up and using the printer for several days. Basic setup information is on the outside of the box and on a two-page information guide attached to the box. There are four documents when you open the box: a Setup Guide, a Reference and Support brochure, an Instant Ink card, and an HP company notices sheet. The inkjet cartridges and power cord (with plastic prong protector) were in a cardboard holder. The printer was supported by two styrofoam pieces and was in a plastic bag with handles to assist with removal of the printer from the box. Nice touch! Multiple pieces of blue tape, cardboard, and plastic holding the printer parts together were easy to remove because the end of each piece of tape was folded over. After plugging in the printer as instructed, the printing light glowed green as the printer started up. A tone then sounded and the printing light turns purple. No instructions yet to install the ink cartridges. I installed HP Smart on my Android smartphone and instructed the app to find the printer. Although the app said that it was searching, it did not find the printer until I pressed the Add Printer button. It then found it and asked for my router's WiFi password. After entering the password the app informed me that it needed Bluetooth, which was not enabled on my phone, and asked permission to enable Bluetooth. The app then found the printer and began setup. I was instructed to press the Information button on the printer, which I did. After connecting the printer to my WiFi network, the app then connected to HP Services to complete the setup. The app asked whether I wanted to enroll in the HP Instant Ink program to get free ink for six months and an additional year's warranty. I confirmed by logging into my HP account and entering the information required, including address and credit card number. The free ink plan is six months of 700 pages/month; the plan can be cancelled at any time. The app then proceeded to step me through the final setup of the printer. I added paper and attempted to install the ink cartridges but was confused because the cartridge covers were down and not visible. Once I raised the covers, installed the cartridges, and lowered the covers, the setup continued. I attempted to print a document from the app, but I was missing the HP Print Service Plugin on my phone. I installed that app and was able to enter the HP Smart app that has multiple tiles to operate the printer. I used the Print Scan tile to successfully scan an image. I then added the printer to my Windows 10 PC. Windows recognized the printer and notified me that the HP Smart app was available for download. Once I downloaded the app and added the printer, a print alignment procedurec was required. This involved scanning a special printed page. Once I completed that step, I was able to print as expected. The printer is quiet when idle and not very loud when printing. It is slow but prints fine (when it works). Three different times I tried to print from a Windows program and received a printer error message. I had to pull the plug from the printer and plug it back in again in order for the page to print. I was disappointed to find that the printer suppports only manual duplexing. It is odd that the printer displays a red X when a print job is in process, since that would normally indicate a problem. The printer sounds a musical alert when the print job is completed. Scanning with the HP Smart app is easy and allows saving in different formats. However, I was not pleased to see that the scanner cover hinge did not expand to support thicker material such as a book. I have not yet tried the fax function. I have not printed enough for the printer to indicate that the ink cartridges need to be replaced. I did receive a first Instant Ink notification and received spare ink cartridges in just a couple of days. I think that the HP Envy Pro 6455 is a good basic printer and would serve the average home user well. It is well built and produces quality black-and-white and color output. As with any inkjet printer, the quality will stay high as long as the printer is used regularly and the ink is not allowed to dry out. I do wish the printer came with a screen to control the printer, rather than having to use the HP Smart app.
