Rated 5 out of 5 by from light weight, quick GPS, quick sync the 55 is very light an low profile which is very nice. It gains the GPS signal very fast and syncs almost instantly when it connects to my phone. Too many extra features for me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pretty good so far I have loved Garmin for years! I've had forerunners since the 15. With each one there has been updates and changes. The 55 is no different. I went with the aqua since it's my favorite color! I feel like it fits better on my arm with the removable bands instead of the slightly curved band of my 45. It does everything I need, tracking steps, heartrate, and everything else. I love the breath work option, and stair step option. I'm working on getting a better fitness age and volmax. It seems on this one though that the buttons have a more springy feel to them, but works good. Customer service at garmin is always accommodating and helpful.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Annoying In Many Ways Having had a couple of good Garmin watches in the past I decided to stick with the brand when my Forerunner 30 died. The 55 had good reviews so ordered one but was immediately annoyed to see a completely new power lead, this means throwing out two old Garmin charging cables, more plastic waste in the environment, thanks for that Garmin. Next annoyance is the display. Call me old fashioned but I just like a 24 hour clock with four digits the same size. It is impossible to get this. The choice is between unpleasant looking digital displays or utterly hideous attempts to make it look like an old fashioned watch. Ok, so does it at least work for running? Yeah, I guess but again why mess with the display? Just give me time, distance and pace please, but oh no, instead I have an arbitrary meaningless time counting down filling most of the screen. Didn't work this out until the second run when I realised it was suggesting I run 9.2 miles in 38 minutes. I'm an intermediate runner but even in my prime I couldn't run that distance in an hour! Maybe once I have downloaded the full manual I will be able to iron out some of these features but it's a pain that I have to. Just cannot work out why Garmin would mess about with all these standard features in such an irritating way. Might just do away with their watches in the future and just use my phone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Boy did I make a mistake with this purchase I purchased a Forerunner 55. I am also extremely technically challenged. But I thought there had to be some "Logic" in operating this watch. But Logic totally alluded me. You don't just press one button, Top Right button and start going, Oh no that would be too east. Then you press the bottom bottom left, scroll, hit left middle and or top......It's just insane. Then on more than one occasion I re-charge the battery an it say 100% then the following morning when I wake up the battery is down to about 20%. I did not activities. ****BUT*** I must comment to support Dept. They are for the most part wonderful and patient people. But again I repeat I am not a tech person and this logic to use the watch correctly totally alludes me. Plus I feel guilty .keep calling the support dept as STILL not getting credit for my activities that I have done I am sure it's a GREAT WATCH ONLY IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Huge heart rate display I needed a watch that would provide a huge heart rate display so I can race at the fully optimal speed for my health. I wanted one that would be easy in day or night because many of my races start before sunrise. This watch does that, and more.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Less is more I am a Garmin fan. I had a vivoactive 2. It was a wonderful watch but because of all the bells and whistles the battery didn't last as well My 55 does the same stuff but because it is more minimal in its controls the battery lasts much better.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Went beyond my expectations I wanted a watch I could trust the measurements. So after talking with a couple friends that run, they told me a Garmin would be the best choice, as it has the best gps signal, the best app info, the best data to study, and so on. So I chose the FR 55, even it being an entry model, it still offers a lot. And it offers all I need. No music, no need to swim, no need other features, etc. It offers the essential enough. It has a nice design, is very light, and doesn't bother at all. I try to keep it 24/7. The screen is awesome. It reflects the light, so it looks like it's turned on and have a backlight but no. It saves a lot of battery. Talking about the battery, it's a good one, it can hold up to 2 wees or more depending on the use. The app is outstanding, and you can also download its sibling and choose a huge variety of watchfaces, which is amazing. So, that is it, that's my opinion. I loved the watch. I think I could've bought it earlier haha because I liked it a lot.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Disappointed I bought tte Forerunner35 a few years ago and it worked great. I upgraded to the 55 less than a year ago. In less than 6 months the watch stopped connecting to my phone/computer. After 2 sessions of 2 1/2 hrs on chat support it was finally determined that the watch was not fixable and a replacement would be sent. I received the replacement of a refurbished watch for a watch that was not even a year old. The refurbished watch’s battery lasts for only 24 hrs. My old watch battery would last for 1-2 weeks depending on how much GPS I used. It’s useless. Now I’ll need to go through the whole process over again to get another replacement. If the next replacement has issues as well I’m never choosing Garmin again. It’s not worth the hours of headache. Sorry Garmin, I want to like you but you are making it very hard!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to Use I’ve had this for about a month now. Very ease to use and lightweight. Had the Fenix 5 but realized I didn’t need all those features. If you are looking for something that’s easy to use and don’t need all those extra features this watch is for you. One thing I don’t like, wish they had a trail running activity. Love the suggested workout feature, use this everyday. You can’t go wrong with this watch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Auto scroll It is hard for me to understand why and how a watch with so many options, Auto Scroll is excluded? It makes absolutely no sense to me, other than forcing customers to buy more expansive watch. I returned it back, as a deep dissatisfaction with such a cheap business approach. I've been a loyal customer for many years. Too bad.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great watch, but GPS takes too long to connect. The watch is great and has all the features I wanted. It is easy to use and the screens are simple to navigate. My only complaint is that the GPS takes longer to connect than my previous watch. I sync the GPS before every run, but it still takes longer than I expected.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple and effective I’ve had my Forerunner 55 for two years. I was looking for a simple GPS watch without much need for extra features. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Booklet print is tooooooi small! I have not discovered all the features as I need the Hubble telescope to read the instructions booklet. So far I figured out how to time my runs. I will have to watch a YouTube video at some point to learn more. How hard is it to have bigger print! Don’t worry! You’re not the only people who do this! I couldn’t read the booklet even wearing reading glasses! Ugh!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Frustrating fault I love Garmin watches. My latest Garmin 55 has an annoying tendency to resort to the 100% charged screen with no obvious way of turning the watch off or on. It then annoyingly phones my contact !

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Oh Garmin I love my new watch and also loved the previous 2 I had before this one. They definitely don’t last forever. Which is why I appreciate this model, affordable version that does just enough for me. I’m training for my 4th half marathon and don’t love all the assumptions Garmin makes about who would be interested in this watch. It’s good enough for me but I’m def not a beginner, just don’t want to break the bank on something I know will not t last more than 3 years.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from WHAT THE HECK? I JUST purchased this watch, have had it maybe 2 weeks and the battery already drains within a day. The first week everything was fine, the charge held the entire time. I would top off the charge for a few minutes here and there. Monday my watch was fully charged, Tuesday morning the battery was at 10%. Charged it to 100%. Woke up for an am run on Wednesday and may watch is down to 20% already. I love this watch, I don't know what happened but I'm super disappointed that something so costly is already being defective.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absence of resume later About 1 month with forerunner, replacing a Fenix 5 with charging failure. Battery life is excellent. Biking and walking are regular activities. Only complaint is the 'resume later' option is absent on forerunner. I would consider this a deficiency; absence of a required feature in any modern wearable, since no recreational user doesn't pause on some workouts.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from First Smartwatch I received the garmin forerunner 55 for my birthday a few days ago, so far it's been great! The battery lasts a long time, I'm able to get my notifications on the watch and see lots of data about my health. The only thing that sucks is I dont see a wheelchair option. I'm paralyzed and run with my chair, which burns more calories than regular running and I dont have that as an option on here, maybe they will add it eventually? The under armor app has it so cant be too hard but hey, I realize I'm a small market so I get it! Overall though, been a good birthday present!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sleep tracking is very bad I bought this a few weeks back, Still testing. The watch fails to identify different stages of sleep. ofcourse the accuracy is bad in most of the watches, but Forerunner 55 does a pretty bad job for its price range.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super Watch for Runners I used to use the Forerunner series, and ended up with another model when someone gifted it to me. I recently went back to the Forerunner 55, and am so glad that I did; the watch is easy to use, has an amazing battery life, the GPS seems extremely accurate, and I love the "breathe" feature (which is not something I expected to love). I had used a touch-screen watch before, and was a bit worried about going back to using buttons, but it has been an easy transition. My previous watch would end up on different screens if I ran in long sleeves in the rain, as the fabric would get warm and the watch would interpret it as a "touch." No such problem here! I am so happy with this purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exemplary I bought this because it was cheaper than some of the other options but I have to say, it does not lack quality from the price. This watch is amazing. It tracks my runs and does exactly everything that I need it to do. I absolutely love this watch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from GPS is unreliable This watch has many features, but the only ones that interest me involve the GPS. I want to know how far I run and what my pace is, but the GPS is very unreliable. It works about half of the time. I can turn it on and it will read "wait for GPS" for my entire run. I'm running outside in open areas with plenty of internet access. Other times it works fine. I'm disappointed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it!!! I had a forerunner 35 and it was just getting slow and old. I got it from my brother who had it sitting for a year and had used it a year or 2 before that. Then I used it for a couple years. I loved the forerunner 35....although when I swam or did resistance work for so.e reason the heartrate was off. I researched and studied a long time before deciding on which watch to get next Also I had a budget. I didn't want ro spend more than 250. I tried the garmin venu sq but took it back after a few hours. I didn't like the touchscreen aspect and the writing was too small for me without my reading glasses. I messaged with so.eone from garmin on their website and told them my issues and he recommended the forerunner 55. I went to REI the next day and bought this one for 200 and I love it!!!! The buttons are very similar to the 35 so didn't take long to get used to. I find the hr monitor very accurate and it gives you so much information in the connect app. I can read it without my glasses and it's a great watch!!! This one is perfect for me!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great entry level Does everything you need for basic running and some other aerobic exercises. Pros: Great battery life, lots of good information, app is relatively easy to use, GPS location is accurate, auto generates lots of data like calories burned, HR, steps etc. Cons: Running pace calculations lag a lot and are off by about 10%. HR also seems to read low outside of vigorous activity and would benefit from a different monitor than optical. Sleep monitoring is inaccurate and waking times need constant adjustment. The app also doesn't seem to transfer custom workouts to the watch even after syncing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cumbersome device Not as simple and intuitive as my Garmin 220. The manual does not easily answer my questions. In time it may prove to be of value but for now I am a sceptic and not pleased. I had hoped for an updated version of my previous Garmin 220 but i got a more complicated version. Also, Garmin is overly directive in suggesting what the review contains. Corporate culture is controlling the message.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It is growing on me I am not a runner. But I am a senior citizen who loves to exercise but doesn’t use a smart phone. I had a list of models that work well without a smart phone but our local running store didn’t carry those so I bought this Forerunner 55. I live in a rural county with limited shopping options. So far I am please with this fitness watch. It has far more capability than my old Forerunner 35. I like being able to see my heart rate, sleep results, steps, gps of my walks and it does a great job with my cardio and yoga workouts. There are a lot of interesting stats that are monitored and I look forward to seeing what more it can do. The only downside is that when it is away in another room from my tablet it will vibrate too often as it connects and disconnects as I move. I have to bring my tablet into my gym room when I exercise for this reason. It does the same if I go to bed early or sleep late. I am past the age of running due to arthritis but this running watch does work for many other things.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best watch I’ve ever owned! I’ve been using my Forerunner 55 for about a month now and it is one of my best purchases to date. I finally hopped off the Apple Watch train and I’m not looking back. I’m a beginner runner and this watch has all the functions you need as a beginner and is very user-friendly. One of my favorite aspects about this watch is the battery life— I’ve personally gone a week and a half constant use and it will only be down to 30%. In all, if you’re thinking about buying it’s definitely worth it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Can’t see the screen Loved my previous version of this watch, so when it finally died, I didn’t hesitate to buy a new version of it. Got it all set up but screen was very dim to the point of not being visible, so went through all the steps to turn up the backlighting, spent over an hour with tech support, and apparently need to jump through more hoops to update the app via a computer (not compatible with a laptop or phone), so I am returning it. Tech support was NOT HELPFUL, took forever between responses, and ultimately was unable to solve the problem. Very very disappointing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Too many features for me. I tried the Forerunner 55 with the HRM-Dual chest strap. Initially, the HR was incorrect. - off the charts high - as if I were using the watch without the HR sensor. I was having the same issue with my Polar Ignite 2 and H10 strap (initial HR way to high) which is why I tried out the Garmin. Since the result was no better than the Ignite 2, I returned the Forerunner 55. Additionally, there are too many buttons. After a run, I don't want a complicated button sequence to save the results. The watch face was too small for me - my eyesight is not that great. Once the watch got in gear (after about six or seven minutes) the HR was steady and accurate. Nevertheless, I just didn't like the watch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than I expected 2 Week Review: I got this watch as I was looking to upgrade from my old 230 (which is still going strong). Overall very happy with this watch. Does everything that I need it to do, tracks my steps, runs, and bike rides. I greatly apprechiate the Garmin coach feature (for no extra charge I have pre-planned training runs). I was originally worried about the look of the watch and feel as it is one of the cheaper end watches from Garmin, but once I had it in hand it was completely fine in the black color. Looks similar to other offerings at a much higher price point. Thus far the 2 week battery life is a valid claim and I have not had to charge yet. The only negatives is that the sleep tracking is still a bit off at times, and I wish the buttons were more metal like the 245 music but for this price point it exceeds my expectations. It has a ton of extra features like alerting you when your HR goes too high or low, stress evaluation, body battery and much more. I have had a few Fitbits (all had issues), and I do not want to charge an Apple Watch every day, so I am glad I stuck with Garmin.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Battery BEAST! I had been using the Garmin Forerunner 45S for the past 6 years. I got a lot of life out of it, but it failed to get me past 17miles of running, even having it at 100% before starting the run. This past weekend we did a long run of 22.75 miles where I started with 98% Battery life, it is now Monday and it still has a 44% battery life. Not having to charge every other day has been an amazing upgrade. I really like the V02 Max Recovery Hours feature, and the way the options are displayed on screen.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from WOW I love my watch. It is very easy to use and has a lot of cool tools you can use as an athlete or not. I got it for running consistently. Tracks sleep well and the GPS works well. You can sink with Strava and it will upload your runs once synced. This watch is great!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works Great!! I purchased the Forerunner to be paired with my Samsung Galaxy smartphone. The Forerunner is more compatible than any other watch/monitoring device I have yet tried. It syncs with my notifications and makes it really convenient to monitor my calls, texts and emails without having to get to my phone, especially when I am working out. I only wish you could control more from the Garmin Connect app on my phone such as when I am starting a workout. I get great feedback from the workout on the connect app, but can only start the workout from the Forerunner which is sometime hard to do when I am out running in the dark.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding Is doing EVERYTHING that i wanted it to do. I love how it works with the app and how accurately it can track my run. I do wish that it was easier to see and illuminated more on the watch face, or if the watch face could be a little bigger. That really helps us runners with poor eyesight.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good upgrade from FR220 I bought this once my FR 220 battery went bad after several years and glad I chose this model. It is a great basic running watch with a lot of great features, some of which I’ll probably never use. My only suggestion is that Garmin shouldn’t have discontinued the foot pod because even when you calibrate it on a treadmill then go back to use it at a different speed it doesn’t seem to match up as good with the treadmill like my original watch did that had a foot pod. Other than that I like it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Too much stuff I want a watch that tells me what my pace is. Not what my pace is for a lap, whatever a lap is. Is a lap one mile? I want to know what time it is. i want to know how long I've been running. As it is I have to sort allot information to get this basic information.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what I was looking for. This is great in general. It doesn’t have all the features of the fenix, but for the price this is much better than the other smart watches. The accuracy is great, but the battery life is what blows me away. My wife has to charge her Apple Watch pretty much nightly. I charge mine for about 1-2 hours about every 6 days.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My perfect running watch I purchased the Garmin forerunner 55 about 3 weeks ago as a replacement for my Fitbit charge 5. Was frustrated with the Fitbits inaccurate GPS system and lack of functionality during exercise and figured Garmin would be a great replacement. Boy it was I right. The customizability and functionality of the Garmin during a workout is phenomenal. Not to mention of course the GPS accuracy is pinpoint. I wish I could go into all the features that I use on a daily basis but truly it's jam-packed and a fantastic watch for anyone looking to be more serious about running.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great features to track health I have been using the forerunner 55 for a month now and I couldn’t be more than happy with my purchase. I tracks pretty much everything related to your Health and fitness. I love pretty much all of the features, however my favorite ones are the sleep track, body battery And active and on active calories burned. I also have the 1030+ power meter and the RS 200 pedals And when the activity is completed whether it’s from your watch or the power meter it is saved automatically to the app so you can see your numbers. The watch is really very easy to use and to set up, you can change the faces of your watch so you can have the data that you want on the face or just the time shown. I track calories burned and heart rate on the watch for yoga and weight training such as HIIT or just cardio work outs. I believe someone serious about their fitness should own one of these watches as it will show you how you are doing and when you are improving or what your numbers are so you know what to do to improve those numbers. Also I think this is a must for Cyclist

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Difficult to see the display I'm a 68 years old runner, but probably I need to have 20 to see the display of this watch. Even with the backlight on, the illumination is really bad. I feel very bad with Garmin because in the forerunner 55 advertising you see the display very clear and brilliant. The Garmin connect app also have a black background and Grey letters that make very difficult to read even in my smart phone. There is no way to change the background color in this app, According from Garmin representative.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quite a learning curve I got my Forerunner 55 for Christmas. It is my first watch of any type in 15 years or so, and I’ve never had a sports watch. The downside for me has been the learning curve and understanding which button to push when. Now that I have (mostly) got those issues worked out I love the functions I have learned. I think there are a few other things it can do that I haven’t figured out yet, but I’m still working on it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Light, and functional This is my 1st Garmin watch. I focused on heart rate monitoring while exercising, not a "smartwatch." Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect watch for my activities! I bought one of the Forerunner 55 watches for me and one for my girlfriend. It's great for keeping up for our activities as we work on burning more calories. I also love that she and I can keep up with each other through the Garmin Connect App and challenge each other in different competitions for the most steps and other activities. I don't like that she's way ahead of me in steps for the month. The only feature not available on this watch that we wish it had is tracking how many flights of stairs we walk in a day, a feature found on other Garmin watches.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from If you want to be healthy-Get One! I bought my Garmin Forerunner 55 on January 11, 2022. I love it! The features are so much better than the Fitbit I was wearing before. As a new runner I needed to monitor my miles and speed. not just steps. This device has so much more. It talks to My Fitness Pal so my calorie count is monitored as well. I am still learning how to use it, such as the mapping features, but it has seemed pretty easy so far (I’m 67, so electronics can be hard for me to figure out sometimes). Using the metrics of my Garmin I have lost 4 pounds so far, and today is only 2 weeks and 3 days since my purchase (I’m close to goal weight, CW: 153; GW: 135-140). Get one!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this watch I bought these about 4 weeks ago and it’s worth every penny. I’ve owned a Fitbit in the past and will not go back to that. The extra services you have to pay for with Fitbit are included with the Garmin ecosystem. That was main reason I decided to switch and don’t regret it. I will have to say my favorite aspect of this watch is the coach function and adapting training program it has kept me motivated to keep up with my runs and provides great scheduling and suggestions. The Coaching format along with the body battery have been great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love It!! I don’t adapt easily. I’ve had my forerunner 25 for 6 years and was very hesitant to change. But with my old watch getting more and more glitchy, I upgraded. It was like going from a rotary phone to the newest cell. At first, for like an hour, I was overwhelmed with all the features. I like easy. But by the next morning I was getting the hang of it, and every day after that I was like a kid in a candy store - look at this, that is cool, it can do that too?!? Again, I’m pretty non-tech savvy, but the buttons are easy to navigate, scheduling specific runs is super simple, and for a watch with amazing features nothing is tricky to figure out. Plus the battery life is fantastic! There’s nothing I don’t love about this watch. I couldn't be happier with my much needed upgrade!!

I watched Youtube reviews and decided the Forerunner 55 would meet my running needs. The technology upgrades were beyond my expectations. It is a compact watch filled program that meets my running, walking and swimming needs and the price is right. You will need to download the Owner's Manual. What I got was a watch that has a TIMER, as the main part of the display. I wanted to save my run, and there are several choices. It should vibrate when it completes the lap. Very weak. Last week I ran 14 miles. Mile 6 was 2 minutes for .2 mile. I don’t know what happened to the rest of that lap. Apple Watch was the backup and recorder 14 minutes for that mile. That has never happened before with a Garmin watch. I have to download the manual and see if I can get the watch to display the proper data. I shouldn’t need to do it. If I was running on a track I might use a timer but not for running on the road.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Multi-Purpose Watch I got this recently and I'm very pleased with the outcome. A watch that can be used for all single sports (not multiple, for example triathlons). Amazing results and very pleased with the product. The only problem is auto-pause. When I stop, it is meant to auto-pause after 0-5 seconds, but I have waited up to 10 before pausing it myself. When I restart and keep going after a break, it tends to auto-pause 2-3 times before it continues recording steadily.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pure simple digital watch with smart features I really like the 1+week battery, the standard digital watch face you can download, the simple app controls, even the non touch screen is a plus for me. This specific LCD screen has a better viewing angle than my last Samsung gear watch (and not needing to do a gesture to see the screen as it is always on). The non touch screen keeps my toddler from changing the settings. My only comment is that proprietary connector is a straight plug in the back. Otherwise this is a perfect watch for those that want a simple smartwatch or as I like to describe it as a watch with smart features.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it but I really like my Forerunner however,,,,, I really miss my fit bit one as even thought it was the first one to come out it would monitor my stairs climbed. I cannot even find one on the wed site. seems strange that other models have this feature but the forerunner 55 does not. Also just got the new update for my home page and I hate it before I knew just where to go to monitor the info I was looning for =, Hate the graphs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Garmin Forerunner 55 I have really enjoyed the Garmin Forerunner 55 fitness watch. It was a little bit confusing to use at first, but I am used to the navigation of the different buttons now. The battery life lasts about a week or so before I need to charge it again. Overall, it has been well worth the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love the look, but features could be ‘better’ I bought this watch at REI to replace an old Garmin watch I had. I loved the old one, but wanted something more modern. So far, it’s pretty good. I really like it’s updated look and features. What I am NOT thrilled about is how I can’t scroll thru the bottom data (on the main screen). As it is, only the date is visible. Rather, I’d personally like to know how many miles I’ve walked during the day, w/o having to time the activity itself. Or, I’d at least like to be able to scroll through options, like I could on my old watch. This is a big enough of a deal that I’m considering returning the watch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great New Features! I needed to get a new running watch because my Garmin 45 was on its last legs, so I bought the Garmin 55. The Garmin 55 is a great base watch and has new features not present in the 45 like suggested runs and recovery time after runs. These have been very helpful for my running. There are also more activity types to load to the watch, which is super.

The price point is great for all of the features it comes with and it works fantastic to keep track of my milage and long runs as a high school distance track runner. Rated 5 out of 5 by from I'm going to keep it Every new device has a learning curve. I'd been using a Polar M430 for years, but it is no longer holding much of a charge. Mostly I run, but when I want to track a strength training workout, there is no obvious entry for that (Polar had "Strength"). When I do run, all my distances based on Mapmyrun and confirmed on my Polar are now at least one to two tenths of a mile longer. I don't see a way to build my own watch display combination as with my Polar, but maybe that is hidden in the Connect app or web somewhere. I'd rather not have to clear the training suggestion each time I start a treadmill session, but again, I suppose there is a way to disable that annoyance somewhere. I did like Polar's web site summary of my workouts. With Garmin Connect, I just want to look at the run I just did today and sometimes over the last few weeks and months. I finally found it under "Calendar". The default "Dashboard" is just confused and disconnected noise. I'm keeping it and might grow to love it, but right now I just want to track my workouts.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Technology has not advanced This Forerunner 55 replaced my Forerunner 220 because I don't need a lot of bells and whistles and the 220's battery has been dying for a few years. We all know that most retail GPS watches doesn't measure distance accurately and the 55 is no different. It measures a 3 mile course as 3.07 miles on a course that was wheel-measured in the middle of the course, not the tangents. Even the 220 consistently measured the same 3 mile course at 3.02, +/- .01. I was hoping that wrist-measured HR technology had gotten better in the past 5 years. Nope. I went back to my HR strap for accuracy. I turned off the notifications for various sound or social media apps, plus the weather. It still asks me to turn on the weather notifications, even after always pressing the "Don't Ask Again" button. It's just a disappointing product. On the plus side, the battery usage for a 3 hour run was only 8%, but knowing Garmin's battery policy from the 220, it has a planned obsolescence. It also finds the satellite quickly, but can't measure well from wayyyy up there.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good watch 4.5 stars. The GPS works well most of the time, and there have only been a few times that it has taken more than a minute to get GPS, and that was when I was moving and in an area with lots of trees. It has lots of different options for watch faces and you can choose which data it displays while you are running. It’s also cool that it has heart rate and when you finish a run you can look at all sorts of data like elevation profile and even overlay two graphs, like speed and elevation. It also has the PacePro which allows you to add a route and then make a plan for how fast you want to run each part of it. The battery lasts about 4-7 days, depending on how long you use GPS. Overall it’s a good watch that I would definitely recommend for both beginner and intermediate runners.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent The Forerunner 55 is my first running watch. I purchased with the intentions of more accurate tracking of my training and to use during my first marathon. I am not too well versed with the bells and whistles on the more expensive watches, but if you are looking for something that can provide you with accurate data and analytics regarding your runs, I strongly recommend. Easy to use, straight to the point, excellent watch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great multifaceted product. This replaces my older Forerunner 220, which I’ve had several years. This model allows me to check different data, depending on what activity I”m doing and what I prefer to know during and/or after the activity. As an older fitness buff I don’t require some of the features on this 55, but its handy to have them available should my workout or fitness level change. Great product; not over the top and just right for my needs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Watch for Beginners and Experienced Runners This is a great watch for both beginner runners and experienced runners looking for basic feature and ease of use! It’s functional and has all the features I’d want in a running watch. I’m used to the Fenix series so I was worried this would be a step down from that but I’m learning I don’t really need all those extra features. It’s got the body battery energy monitor that I like and the advanced running features that the Fenix had without having too much extra stuff. The battery life is pretty dang good! Only complaint would be there’s no strength training feature so I can’t track my strength workouts. Other than that it’s a perfect watch!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Accurate Data I was given the Forerunner 55 as a Christmas gift, and I absolutely love it! It has taken me a little time to get used to all the features, but now that I have gotten the hang of how to navigate through the watch, it has gotten easier to use. The data is more accurate than old watch, and I love how much more it tracks. My only issue is that my wrist has had an allergic reaction to the metal clasp on the band. I need to find a band that my skin doesn't react to.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Overall great running watch with upgraded features I upgraded from the Forerunner 35 to the 55. The GPS engages faster, which I really like. It also appears to be more accurate. I really like the Body Battery function (which wasn't on the 35). It uses HRV (heart rate variability), a more accurate measure to determine when or how long you need to recover from an activity. A few things I'm still getting used to--how many buttons are needed to push to get to various functions. It is more complicated than the 35, but that could be because I'm still learning how to use it. I'm also getting used to notifications not popping up instantly, but doing a step before I can see emails etc. Overall, it is a great watch and good value for the $.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great battery but screen could improve I bought this 2 weeks ago and so far charged the battery one. One unusual thing was that after having the battery charged to 100%, the first day it showed I had 97% before I turned it off. The next morning, the battery was showing 87%.thats a 10% drop in a day when it was off. I'll see what happens in the next charge cycle. The only other minor grope is that the screen has very large bezels. I was hoping that the 55 would improve on this over the 45,but that's fine and does as is intended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Fitness Tracker I've had the forerunner 55 for several weeks and it's a really great watch/fitness tracker. It's extremely responsive and has an always on display, so no waiting for the screen to wake up to check your stopwatch for intervals or pace information. It collects plenty of data for people like me who love data, and I haven't had any problems whatsoever syncing or using any of the great features, like workouts. It does have a learning curve since it uses 5 buttons instead of a touchscreen, but I think it's a fair tradeoff to get an always on display and 2 weeks of battery life. The screen resolution is enough, but it makes for a pixelated display that is not as sharp and some other smart watches.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great watch for traininy I am enjoying the coaching benefit this watch came with and see improvement in my running. I would like to be able to adjust my BMI manually since I have a scale that computes it. Also the letters are rather small and hard to read while running. The coaching app would be easier to follow if the text were bigger. It would be good to be able to use at golf course but can’t. I had to add swimming manually. But overall a nice tool for training and very comfortable that I can sleep with this one on my wrist

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far - really good ! I recently upgraded to the Forerunner 55 from an old forerunner 910xt. I’m getting used to all the new features that the 55 offers. One great thing is how fast it picks up satellites! GPS on demand ! The number of metrics I can look at is ok, the screen is smaller than the 910. The metrics the 55 gives me immediately is impressive. I had to go to YouTube to see what else the 55 can do ! So far, it’s doing what it needs to, though I’d like it to sync to Garmin Connect through the ANT+ antenna. Baby steps !

If I could change anything it would be to display more data on the activity screen. Other than that, I'm impressed. Would recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Average The Garmin 55 is average running watch! The preloaded watch faces have nothing to do with running and look pathetic! Adding watch faces has continue to fail and Garmin need tech savvy people to help! So far they cannot figure out! Customer service poor and the chat is useless!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really good running watch I got this watch for my birthday and the holidays and I couldn’t be happier with it. I finally upgraded from the Forerunner 35 and I’m loving all the new features it comes with. This is a solid affordable running watch with great features for the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Walk features I upgraded from the Forerunner 45 which I liked very much. I would to have more introduction on the walking features since I am not a runner. I am more of a speed walker and find the watch useful for my three plus miles, six days a week. I am trying to upload the Speed Walker activity to my options.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Forerunner 55 I bought this product a few months ago to use for marathon running and interval training. I am happy with the product, but I will tell you it takes awhile to get used to. The interval option takes a few steps to get to for programming. It frequently continues the "discarding" circuit until the watch is actually shut off and restarted. The charge easily lasts for 72 hours. Overall, well worth it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice little upgrade My 35 was rapidly losing battery life so it was time for a new one. The 55 initially has great battery life, very happy with it. I primarily use it to track heart beats, steps, and runs. The stress and body battery are fun, sleep not entirely accurate but nice to have. Overall happy with purchase

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good watch - issue with SWIM Workout I bought this watch considering I like to do RUN, BIKE and SWIM, but then I realised that this watch don`t allow to send a Swim Workout to the device! so I'm surprised because old FR245 allows to do that but this new FR55 don't!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect, basic gps running watch This is my second Garmin running watch and, so far, I love it! The battery seems to last a for several runs and it has the features I need to track my runs. I only use it for running because it does not have a basic workout tracker and I don't want to keep messing with a watch in the middle of a strength training workout to record reps and other data. I would recommend this watch for runners who need a basic gps watch. This one does not have the crazy battery and update issues my Vivoactive 3 had. I never knew when I turned it one whether it would be at 0% or 99%, or if it would spend 10 minutes updating and running the battery down. I hope this one keeps working as great as it has so far!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Incredible I’ve been wearing the forerunner 55 for about two weeks. It has fine tuned everything I do. Highly recommend for those serious about stepping up their accountability.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Early Use Review I bought my watch about a month ago prior to running a Half Marathon. I didn't even have a regular watch so needed something to keep track of time. The watch is very intuitive and keeps very accurate time, distance and pace. I really like the stats connected with the app after each event. I've had forerunners before and gave up on them because the controls were too easily accessed and touched unintentionally, units needed to be charged early and often. The Forerunner 55 addresses these concerns. Now just a matter of longevity.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hate it! Bought 2 weeks ago. Doesn’t automatically connect to Bluetooth. Have to manually reconnect at least twice a day like it’s brand new out of the box. The time is always wrong and has to be manually set. The charge lasts less than 24 hours. I reached out to Garmin support twice. First time was fine. Second time when I asked for a replacement or upgrade, they told me to take it back to the retailer. I’m doing that today and considering something other than a Garmin. I’ve been with Garmin for over 5 years.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love it My husband bought me the garmin forerunner 55 for my birthday. I’ve only ever used fitbit watches prior. I’ve seen people talk about garmin watched (mostly the 245 watch) online and mentioned it to my husband. Unfortunately I don’t have the money for a watch like that so my husband surprised me with the 55. I wasn’t expecting a whole lot to be honest. Boy was I surprised with the amount of info garmin provided with the watch and app! I’m very happy with the watch and love the information it provides. Photo is the last race I did with the garmin watch.

The layout of the watch is easy to learn, I appreciate the battery life, and love having the buttons to navigate the screen. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Forerunner 40 comparison to Forerunner 55 I was used to the features I used on the Forerunner 40. The only improvement I've noticed on the Forerunner 55 is the ease at resetting the stop watch back to zero. But the size of the splits are so small I am unable to to read them. I miss the ability to review the stats of a run I saved on my watch without having to download it into the Connect Ap. The GPS works great. Thanks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Back to Garmin world After years of using Garmin (I go back to the Forerunner 205) I switched to a Coros from my Fenix 3 two years ago. I appreciated that units great battery life and small and light form. It was nice to be able to button the left cuff of my dress shirts something that was impossible with the bulk of the Fenix! I chose to return to Garmin because it's software plays better with the reporting I need. I chose to F55 because it was most like my Coros in terms of footprint. The F55 has all the features I need and the battery life is good enough now that I am retired from ultras.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Unusable This was my first fitness watch purchase with the aim to track running. I went with Garmin thinking it was a reputable brand. Immediately upon opening a software update was required for the watch and the watch became locked in ‘wheelchair mode’. I do not use a wheelchair and the watch won’t track steps or a run and is therefore unusable. This experience has turned me off Garmin and trying to rely on any fitness tracker at all.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good watch for a runner I bought the Forerunner 55 to replace my 35. I like all the features, even though I'm still learning what it will do and how it works. Rated 5 out of 5 by from I should’ve gotten it sooner. I’ve recently decided to take my running a bit more seriously and am training for a half marathon. I had been using the vivomoveHR for three years and really liked it, but the forerunner is truly a running watch. I can download training programs, see much more data about how I run, can see it in the sunlight, and can go more than two weeks on a single charge. I absolutely LOVE this watch. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Comfortable and light I got this about a week ago to to upgrade from my Fitbit that kept dying on me. I like the Fitbit app better but I like the look of this watch more. It's very light. Not sure how accurate the sleep is though. The clock faces are extremely average. I did get one that was pretty good from connect IQ. I would say this is an average sports watch. Kind of expensive for what you're getting. Maybe if I upgraded to the more expensive watch it would be a better product but I just didn't want to spend that kind of money. So I'm keeping it but I have to say I'm not thrilled with it. However that being said I do love that it's lighter I like that it's a round watch and it does keep track of the time of my activities well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Much better then FitBit My friend and her mother are super fit. Her mother is a marathon runner; my friend recently ran her first marathon. Both use Garmin for runners. I leaned into also wanting one after being a Fitbit fan for years. Garmin is so much better of a sports watch, especially for runners. The watch is specially designed to train you to run, which I love. FITBIT wouldn’t do that.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Everything I need in a watch I bought this as a replacement after Tom Tom discontinued their support for their sports watches. It does everything better and more. My only comment is that the small band that holds down the excess strap is a little awkward because it is notched. It takes a few seconds to secure the strap under this band.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great price with great features! I bought this a month ago and have been very satisfied. This is my third Garmin forerunner watch over the past 12 years, they just keep getting better and the tech support always has your back. Love the longer battery life and wrist pulse monitor on this 55 model. Lots of other great features and options but without the price of the higher models. Light weight, small face option for women and ease of use with minimal instructions. Basic watch that meets my needs with extra features.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Forerunner 55 Recently purchased a Forerunner 55 sport watch to replace my old Garmin watch that died. Completely satisfied with the Forerunner 55 and am very happy with the purchase. Has all the activity trackers plus heart rate, total steps throughout the day, sleep metrics and calories burned plus others. It gives great feedback through Garmin Connect. My only negative is that the watch face is smaller than my previous Garmin Forerunner and harder to read. Still a great watch for the price!! I recommend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from keeps me alive As an 85 year old runner my watch is all important. It came to me preprogrammed so does strange things like when I start a run it shows a certain number of minutes and then the timer goes backward until Ive run this minutes! My last Garmin was a Forerunner 45 and the 55 has more changes than I would have liked as I needed help to get it working. However its an amazing watch and I love it. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Complicated for my needs and Garmin Connect is bad I bought it one month ago to replace my Forerunner 15 which no longer communicates with my desktop to capture run/bike workouts. It has a lot more functions making it complicated to use (I recently found out how to do lap times) and much more expensive. Still looking for the recovery feature that my old Timex Ironman had... measuring the drop in heart rate after completing run measured after 30 or 60 seconds. Garmin Connect was freezing, so I uninstalled and reinstalled, was prompted to update and I updated, then prompted to update again, after all that I got to log back in and now (finally) working.

I love that there are so many options for workouts, like running outside, on treadmill, walking, swimming, etc. Its just unbelievable how many stats this watch tracks. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Disapointed I own several Garmin products. This one is a disappointment. I wanted something very basic and without all of the bells and whistles. I need something to sync to a chest strap heartrate monitor. Initially this worked well. I liked the somewhat large display which made for easy reading the heartrate metrics. I've had this for about 6 months and it no longer reads or syncs to the chest strap.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great tool for tracking health! Have been using Forerunner 55 for a little over a month. I track my water aerobics workout and my swimming. I am a senior woman that wanted to track my heart rate, sleep patterns and general health. I am pleased with the ease of using the watch, and the ease of using Garmin Connect. I have just started looking into the user connections. There is so much to learn but so much basic information that is easy to access. The great side light is everything I have used is included in the purchase price. No extra cost for Garmin Connect. There is a learning curve but it is not as steep as I initially thought. For me and my needs it is a winner! No problems with using it in pool water daily.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Marathon Training I decided to sign up for the St. Jude full marathon in December. I purchased Forerunner 55 to help with my workouts. I had one of the original Forerunners 15 plus years ago. I love the new Forerunner 55. I can get a satellite connection within 5 seconds or less going outside. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Disappointed in lack of activity profiles I never leave bad reviews but maybe someone can learn from my mistake. I recently downgraded from a 935 to this 55 and I wish I hadn’t. Even though this is supposedly a running watch, it doesn’t have trail running or hiking activity profiles, which makes no sense to me. I also can’t find a stopwatch function. The alarm clock doesn’t vibrate as vigorously as my old 935 either which makes it less likely to actually get me out of bed in the morning. Definitely disappointed in this purchase. I own a lot of Garmin products (a bike computer, bike light/radar, power meter) and this is just so disappointing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from issues had my 55 for over a month now and it was a upgrade from the 45. I replaced the 45 because the strap connection point broke and the 55 had a normal strap point. Now unlike the 45, my 55 at times will lock up when it receives a email alert. This has happened three times and when it does, the 55 is unusable. Not sure why this happens, but I drop back to my 45 (super glue is great) and wait for the 55 to unlock itself. Very disappointing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Watch I purchased this watch in order to keep track of my runs. rides, and workouts. I specially needed that that the battery lasted more than a day. GPS works great when outside, but if you are recording workouts at a gym or somewhere indoors seems like the GPS signal is not great, which isn't a deal breaker for me, would be nice if the workout feature would use steps as distance. Also would be nice if the App would sync with Google Fit. Other than that I love the rest of the features, like the HR monitor, the sleep monitor, stress monitor and some others I haven't played with much.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A good basic GPS watch Overall I really like it and I'm looking forward to using the suggested workouts, but the fact that I have to press extra buttons to get around it is a little annoying. Currently I have a coach and I'm having to go around it to look for my training. Anyways, it just takes more button pressing than on my old 45.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The battery life is huge I bought my forerunner second hand and it is just unbeatable. Charging is merely optional every two to three weeks maybe. I’ve hit it on several metal surfaces with enough force to accidentally break it and it doesn’t have a scratch besides the one that was there when I got it. Honestly makes me scared at what put that scratch there. I work in a manufacturing facility with pots of molten metal around and this thing doesn’t complain about the heat. I love it never switching to anything else.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Like getting lost in a Persian bazaar I had my Forerunner 35 for over 8 years. When it showed signs of fatigue, I bought a 55. I naturally figured all the limitations (technical and physical) of the 35 would have been vastly improved. WRONG!!! The display font is smaller, the buttons more resistant, the logic of command order and association with buttons nonsensical, and the ability to track data accurately when there's overhead cover (leaves, eaves, branches, etc.) just as poor. But boy, a gazillion new bells and whistles which I have yet to learn the purpose of and map the location of in my memory (which button accesses which attribute/datum) make it seemingly a very well-endowed watch. I also don't like how erratically it records my pace (jumping from 6:53 to 10:35 to 7:50 in each reading) and that it includes in its calculation of overall pace values of standing still (aka, 0:00) even though I've already started running before I press the START button.
