Deaf Friendly!
So glad I got this upgrade from previous Forerunner 235 to 165. It is a game changer! It has vibrations which I just needed it and it has been 100% worth it!

Just okay
I wanted a more watch that was better for running and swimming than the Apple Watch. This one is moderately better but it gives me wonky pacing under bridges (!!!) and is unable to record grade adjusted pace. It is often inaccurate recording laps in the pool as well.

Loving my Forerunner 165!
I've been using my new Forerunner 165 for a few weeks now, and it's been terrific. I'm really enjoying how lightweight and trim it is. No crashes or other anomalies. The HR sensor has been solid. The screen is incredible. Being able to use button or the touch screen is nice. Battery life is great. Of the many Garmin watches I've used over the years, this is my favorite.

Great starter watch for beginners
I bought the forerunner 165 about a month ago now and ran a 5k with it. I feel the vo2 max prediction high balls my speed a little bit but the suggested work outs, sleep tracker, suggested work outs, and training effect have made training and planning my workouts much more efficient.

Much easier to use, while being mor comprehensive.
Tech support recommended the Forerunner 165 to replace my 645. The 165 is much easier to use, while more easily accessing data by swiping up from the home screen the n touching a category to view detailed data. Thanks for listening to my needs and making this thoughful recommendation.

I’m obsessed with the abilities of this watch
I bought this watch to replace the Apple Watch I wore and randomly died in me and it was the best change. It overall gives more information about your health and has many features that help me examine my overall physical abilities.

Awesome watch
Keeping in mind it is entry level, it has cover all my needs. Even going beyond as a new runner.
Good battery life (about a week in gesture mode, with notifications active and following training plans of 4 days a week using gps), light and the amoled screen is mind blowing compare with other models.
Nap detection can be improve, not always recognizing when napping. Totally recommend buying it

Great all around sport watch
Switched from using an Apple Watch to the 165. Could not be happier. I especially like the body battery feature. I’m a cyclist so no need for some of the extra features on higher cost models. Only a month in, but can definitely recommend.

A runner indeed from
It's definitely entry-level, but it's pretty good!
I've owned several different Garmin watches, but this has been my first Garmin AMOLED watch. While I love MIP displays, I love how I'm actually able to read the time when I'm inside, which is most of the day. My MIP displays are just hard to read inside. I don't have any problems seeing the AMOLED screen when I'm out running as I can just turn the brightness up to full, and it's more than sufficient.
For not being dual-band GPS, it almost seems like it is haha! GPS accuracy has been top notch, and even better than some dual-band GPS competitor watches I've tried. Sooo, hats off to you Garmin.
However, Garmin's tier system with some of their software features is a little weird. For example, one simple feature I wish it had (and it's almost stupid it doesn't) is hot-keys like on a ton of Garmin's other watches. It's kinda annoying that this watch doesn't have it. I don't care about having all the training load metrics like the Forerunner 265 and up have (it makes sense to limit those to pricier watches), but being able to use hotkeys (ex. for Garmin pay, timers, flashlight, etc.) would make me bump the rating up to 5 stars.
Overall, great, but just needs a little more.

Garmin Forerunner 165
For a person that actually has 4 Garmin watches a Garmin Navigator for my motorcycle and one for my police unit, I feel I am somewhat qualified to review my new Garmin watch. I love the Amoled screen on the new forerunner it is so much better than that on my 735XT or 945. The 165 hooks up to the satellite so quickly it amazes me. I love the color of the band, I think just the use of the functions makes it easier to use than my other brands that I have.

Terrible
I am very disappointed with this watch. I have bought many Garmin watches over the years and found them all excellent except the 165. I use the watch when I run or walk outside. I want to know my time and speed while I work out. Unfortunately unlike all the other Garmin watches I’ve had, this one goes dark when I am working out. I have called Garmin twice, but have not been able to solve the problem.

Couldn't Ask for a Better Watch
Initially received the Garmin Swim as a present but knowing that I don't exclusively swim, I contacted Garmin to ask their advice on the best watch. I ended up with the Forerunner 165. The (pool) swimming is totally accurate, and it also enables me to track eliptical, treadmill, stairmaster, walking, spin classes, HIIT, hiking, elevation, heart rate, sleep, etc. Battery life is pretty solid, and it's very quick to recharge.

Not Complicated and Easy to Read
As a 70+ person, the learning curve for this watch was easy. I appreciate the heart information it gives me, and I can view time, temp, and weather quickly. Receiving text messages while away from my phone keeps me connected. The step component has made my more aware and now I meet the goal 90% of the time.
Only downside for me, is that no matter what I do, the watch always says my sleep quality is poor, I think because I don't get much deep sleep. I checked it out and found that people over 65 don't necessarily get a lot of deep sleep. The watch does a great job of breaking down sleep analysis. I'm not a runner so nothing to review there.

Great Watch
Had this about a month now, upgraded from my Forerunner 45 which served me well for a few years. The combination of the AMOLED display and touch screen of the FR165 alone is worth the cost of the watch. Data generated by this watch is much better and easy to actually view on the watch itself. The morning report is nice, access to various data points using the touch screen interface is really easy.
I've been following the "Suggested Run" that the watch generates each day and really like this feature. For me, it seems to be spot on what I can do without being too little or too much.
I consider this a real value.

i love data, and this gives me everything. battery life is long! but i get still get freaked out when the battery level hits 50%, i have to keep reminding myself that i still have days of life left, (my previous watch was from a company named of a certain type of fruit). How is this an entry level watch? I still have functions i havens discovered yet.
and all the reviews stated that the gps is not the best..... I'm running ! not sending military precision ordinances.
Garmin has better watches... what do they do that the 165 can't? just asking
this is a review from a reluctant garmin buyer, thought the fruit named company watch is all i needed.

So far, so good!
Bought this a month ago to replace my Swim 2 which worked well for me. Forerunner has more features and most importantly for me a longer battery life for the same price! 4 stars, only because I haven't swam open water yet. Small complaint is that it occasionally loses 25 yards while lap swimming as did my Swim 2.
