Problem is even with Garmin provided cable, the screen goes dim after about 15 minutes of use. Thinking was a vehicle problem, I attempted to use it in another vehicle....same problem. Sigh

Addressees and road situation updates can be a challenge in Europe and although not as accurate or user friendly as in the USA it is still helpful in Europe.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Product has bugs We bought the Drive Safe 65 for a trip to the Canadian Rockies two days before we left for the trip because our previous Garmin died. The drive safe worked well for the trip except in the cities where there were multiple exits off the thruway that were adjacent to each other. The device would say exit right, but if there were two off ramps at the location, it didn't differentiate as to take the first or second ramp. When we returned to Cleveland we asked the Drive safe to find restaurants along our route home. It showed three restaurants per page for Mentor Ohio. The first one was 2.8 miles away, the second and third were 65 miles away. The same mileage differences showed up on the second and third page. I called Garmin about the problem and they advised me to reload the maps, which I did. The very next day while testing the device on a local drive, the screen went blank and would not restart. Once again I called Garmin and they sent a replacement. When it arrived, the replacement was a refurbished unit to replace a device that was just a month old. I complained to Garmin about the rplacement and they ended up exchanging that unit with a brand new in the box device. So far that one is working well, but still requires you to look at the screen to see which way to turn at some intersectiotimes.ns, which means you aren't able to keep your eyes on the road at critical times. I do like the ability to ask for a detour to my route, changing the volume, etc using the voice command. Finding the round hole in the back for the windshield mount can be a bit frustrating. The large screen is nice. Garmin still hasn't figured out how to tell you to folllow a state or US route number through a town. Instead it says tur left on such and such street when there ften aren't any signs showing street names.

I really wanted to get YODA voice back. Its is way better than voice on now. Try to get it off old GPS wrong format. Is there anyway you could get would be great and all 5 STARS.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I use my Garmin always i use my Garmin 65 all the time. when i go out of town for work, or just in my car , never Google,, always Garmin. i like the Drive app, i can put in my address in the drive app and send it to my DS65 and it works. , Con: some times it takes a bit longer to connect to a satellite, while i am sitting in an airport parking lot.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love my DriveSmart 65 and Traffic This review is pertaining to the DriveSmart 65 & Traffic that I purchased a couple of months ago but have not had an opportunity to test it on a road trip until today when I drove about 45 minutes to an appointment. Although I live in a rural community and although I've been holding out for a vacation-type road trip to test this GPS, I proceeded to go ahead and use today's short road trip to test this DS 65 and I have to say that I love this GPS. Since my vision is not as good as it used to be, the 6-inch screen really helps in seeing the letters and the numbers as they are bigger and thicker. Even though I have several other GPS's ranging from a three and a half inch all the way up to a 5 inch, this Garmin DriveSmart 65 is the first GPS in my collection that is a 6 inch. I think I'm going to enjoy my Garmin DriveSmart 65 & Traffic.

It also shows the construction in the area, so you can better plan your trips. With the addition of traffic info it really has saved time and effort as well.

It’s OK it could have been inserted elsewhere and kept the time, which I feel is more important then direction.

It wants me to turn down streets that don’t exist and sends me in the opposite direction of where I want to go. It takes me down winding roads I don’t want. It tells me to exit the freeway miles away from my destination.

When the older/smaller Garmin didn't want to work any longer, I had to set this up this new Garmin about 2 weeks ago and I totally love it. I used my prior Garmin since circa 2007 so it was well worth the money and paid for itself over-and-over. Garmin is the best and I wouldn't have any other GPS brand.

My only criticism is that I take lots of pictures that I don't want to because the camera is on the top right corner and that's where I grab the device.

If I have a cellphone connection why do I need a seperate GPS? But the deal breaker for me was the fact I could not cutomize the display to show more data fields such as Elevation, which the cellphone maps do not show either. So I returned it.

It works great now. Garmin has the best products and support system. You get someone fast and they are extremely knowledgeable. Thanks support person D*****. And when I saw the great deal that was being offered by a seller on ebay, I bought it, even though it was way ahead of any planned road trips. Thus I haven't had the opportunity to try it; nevertheless, I am excited to try it and am definitely glad I own a DS 65.

My old Garmin Nuvi, would direct me in the wrong directions at times, and my final destination was not where it should be. I copied all my old information into my Drive smart 65. On 1 particular route I take, I tried to re route, the way I want to go. Trying to do this has been a hassle, as it won't let me edit my directions, in a way that I can figure it out. A user manual coming with the unit would be really helpful, for those of us who are technology hampered.

It got us through the mess telling us to drive on the right, then drive to the left. Without that, we would have passed our exits too many times. This unit did not always give us two or three warnings for the upcoming exits and the lanes to get in to, so being the navigator was required. To use this unit alone would not have been nearly as good as having another person keeping close tabs on the upcoming moves. I noticed my Garmin has Live Traffic. Hmmm, I didn't know it did and don't know how to use it. I used the Nuvi 1350 for years and switching to the 65 was not that simple.

Needed a new one since my 2 older ones power cords don't work as well with my new car. I don't load apps onto my phone because the large screen on this Garmin is awesome! I use Garmin to help us find fun places to visit and places to eat while traveling on vacation. Love the free map updates!!!

The Mapping and GPS also works very well. The only issue I have found is do not leave it in your vehicle on really cold nights or days. It will not work until it's warmed up. So if your headed out and in a hurry, it's not happening with this one. But it doesn't really take long to warm up..

The larger screen and added capabilities are notable improvements. Basic use was easy to grasp. However, when I wanted clarity on expanding categories, there was no data and it was not to be easily found on Garmin's web site. Similar situation when installing optional maps. The first issue required a chat with tech who, after a few moments, explained that I needed to have more additions for the category to be active. The latter issue was quickly solved through YouTube access which also opened up a world of other options. In sum: nice hardware, but clarity/depth needed on Garmin's web site regarding software.

The voice activation doesn’t work all of the time but that is a minor detail. It has extensive items you can choose from and places to look up. I really enjoy the History Channel markers and the National Park stuff.

The European map set can only find major cities and streets. Since much of England is rural, this was an expensive bust.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Terrible When I put in an address it takes me a different route and each time when I switch directions he keeps on wanting me to go a different route which is much longer and out of the way Also the device tells me the interstate is closed that I was driving on, when it is not, and the device kept on telling me to take the detours. It was a good thing I knew where I was and I knew it was wrong. I love my old Garmin and it works great never have issues

When we came into Colorado on interstate I 76 and the only direction I get is when I turn off I 70 at Grand Junction, 400 miles away. I know now that I 76 turns into I 70 in Denver. So we drove thru Denver, roads covered in snow and watched the signs and never once was I given what lane to be in or anything. Big Help. It gave me lane support thru Chicago on I 80 and we took it all the thru town never getting off I 80 and it gave us lane recommendations all the way. And No Compass. Garmin has been making these products way too long to have this issue. My old was better and was almost 20 years old.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect upgrade The Drive-Smart 65 purchased to replace a Drive-track 70 which was damaged. Had the Drivetrack refurbished and given to someone who had a Nuvi. The larger screen is a huge improvement and it can be safely be used at speed because the touch is so positive. If you learn and remember all the steps you can operate the glass cockpit without taking eyes off the glide path. I hope the aircraft units are as good.

Garmin software and products are much better than using a phone....more accurate, and just better response...better programming indeed. Very reliable.

I drove from LA to CA and the GPS found motels and restaurants along the way. Once I thought it was taking me in the wrong direction and followed my instincts, but I was wrong. The Garmin was right. It is very good at finding nearby businesses. It also guided me around heavy traffic in large metropolitan areas. I love it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from needs improvement When a GPS is new, it wrongly tells you to go left when it’s right and vice versa. After you find a place and save it, it finds the place just fine. I also feel that they should offer the voice in different accents for fun, for example a British accent!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Satisfied and very functional Pairing this with the back up camera is ideal for older cars and avoids costly wiring. the ordering process was not so easy as it was difficult to determine just what was compatible with which accessories. Also, there is limited information on line on how to install the back up camera. The features are fine and typical if you are used to the Garmin format. The active traffic is accurate but lags behind Waze in current data.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quite an improvement over my 5 year old Garmin Started to have problems with my old Garmin GPS. Did not want to be on a trip and loose directions. Garmin Drive Smart 65 seems to be a bit larger and brighter. Only problem I have is setting up traffic.

I have tried putting in names or addresses in my Garmin but it has not worked so hopefully it will work one day. Even though it comes with few basic instructions I have practically mastered it in just a couple of days. It provides me with so much more than just a map. Road hazards, vocal communication, weather maps with radar, total trip planning, locates food, fuel, and hundreds of other types of useful information. Thank you, Garmin. Now I’m “good to go”.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I travel 12 states this includes... I travel 12 states this includes a lot of dirt roads and Mountaintops for the kind of work that I do. My Garmin Drive Smart 65 and Traffic is on point 95 % of the time every once in a while, it will get confused when I reach high mountaintops but besides that it works really well in towns and highways. Features that I like are speed changes, where speed traps are and the ease to travel state to state. (The things I don't like about most Garmin's) is the mounting brackets do not like dirt roads it usually ends up on the floor of my truck and when it gets confused on mountaintops.

I have to say, this is the Best of the 3… I love the HEADS UP on oncoming school zones and speed limit changes, along with the TRAFFIC reports. It’s really nice to SEE my PHONE NOTIFICATIONS on screen at a simple glance without taking my eyes off the road… I have the BIG SCREEN view of my Garmin in the center of my dash board, attached to the windshield, and it makes it so easy to check out the information without looking away from the road… You must own one to really see how Great they are!!

After a time, when I press the on/off button, it returns to normal. Then it may repeats the 'dark mode' - shut down activity.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bought 2 DriveSmart 65's I bought 2 DriveSmart 65's when I thought the nuvi 1450 I had for over 12 years had failed. I found later it just needed a higher amperage power source or time to fully charge the battery before I tried to update it. Our two Sienna's have built in navigation but it comes with a manual that is 3/4 inch thick and necessary to read to use. Map updates cost more than two good Garmin's whose manual is not needed but useful. The 65's work much the same as the older unit. Easy to program, gets you there on the best path and traffic has saved us several times by avoiding accidents and traffic problems. Great product!!

When I called Client Services I was told to mail in the defective unit (Less then 6 month old). I was never told I can get a replacement if I pay a deposit, so I had to purchase the 65. bit of disappointed in the 65 and the support, the cable is NOT compatible between the units and setting up the 65 is different from the 66 setup

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Time for an upgrade The Drive Smart 65 was purchased to replace an older Gar=min Nuvi that was nine years old. The Drive Smart is a huge improvement over the Nuvi. Bigger screen and better navigation features Used it for the first time a few days ago on a trip that was over two hundred miles and was impressed at the navigation prompts. Instead of just instructing to turn at an intersection the prompt said turn at the traffic light. Where we were heading there were multiple turns with more than one street intersecting and it was easier to turn on the correct intersection.. Looking forward to using the Drive Smart for future road trips.

Over the years I have purchased a number of Garmin products all of which have worked well my last purchase was the Garmin DriveSmart 65 we have used it extensively (my vehicle GPS is somewhat dated) and have found it to be 1. easy to operate 2. easy to follow & 3. all the trip info necessary to make your journey enjoyable . Family members have borrowed my DriveSmart and have commented on how accurate and easy it was to use. It's a keeper. Doug

You still need a software patch to be able to turn off the sound for school zones like you can for everything else, I can't be the only one requesting!

I reside in a rural area, so a trip for groceries, supplies, to the post office, etc. is a drive of at least several miles, and usually is a multi-destination event. The Garmin’s capability to provide traffic and route information is very helpful and has shortened the time and miles for us as well as avoiding some of the heavier traffic.

Software and mapping updates can be accomplished more quickly and efficiently with Garmin Expressas well as via Wi-Fi connectivity. Highly recommended for drivers.

Display is very crisp and updates have improved several features, such as local travel information. The data information set that is provided is not overcluttered and allows for easy viewing along the route. It is heads above the factory unit that came with my pickup and so much easier to update.

I had bought the Garmin 66, but the screen was smaller than my older model Garmin 60. The resolution on the 66 is superior to the 65. I'm still trying the settings. You have to access the traffic on the side by selecting the ... buttons and it shows a nice illustration of the traffic conditions. I'm happy with the purchase of the Garmin 65.

All was well until I attempted to download the new map offered by Garmin Express. My Verizon DSL is slow, but I didn't realize how slow until I saw the download time of 10-12 hours. In short, the DSL would kick out after no more than 15% of the new map was downloaded. This was likely due to a large file limiter built into the DSL software. For whatever reason, I was stuck with no existing map on my brand new GPS. Fortunately, I was able to locate a computer repair shop with a much more speedy connection...... download speed was 20X faster than at home. This is the only way I was able to get the updated maps. Now I am stuck with whatever the current mapping is, as I don't dare attempt another download with my slow DSL.

It would say something like "stay in the second lane from your right." Also, it says stuff like "turn right at the second right turn."; "turn left at the light.". Yeah, it is really very good; its communication is simply great!! It is enjoyable!!! :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Drains Battery Recently purchased and placed in my truck. Unable to start truck the next time (appx 2 weeks later) I needed to use it. After the truck was towed in it took hours tocheck the entire electrical system and recharge the batteries because they were completely drained. Per the shop, it appears the new GPS did not shut off when the truck was shut off and completely discharged the truck batteries. Lesson learned - unplug everytime I park the truck. Other than that, everything works good on the new device and the Garmin people were great helping me transfer saved locations from my old (very dead) Garmin to the new device. Fifth Garmin device. Overall a very satisfied customer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Choicer I purchased one of these ten months ago because the one that was no way to get an activation code for the one that came with my 2017 Dodge Journey. I wanted a large screen so that it was easy to see while driving without being distracting. I wanted voice command and one to connect with my audio system so that I could hear it clearly. This unit does it all and at a reasonable price. Was it worth the price…Yes! Does it perform as described…Yes! Would I recommend or buy it again… Definitely Yes! Would I trade or upgrade for a fancier one with more advanced features…. NO. This one is great! My only issues have been the suction cup loses its grip every few months, and every five months, the unit just stops working and goes blank. After I let it recharge for a couple days, it restarts and I’m up and running again. I don’t think either issue is due the unit’s malfunction. I’m sure the windshield has an oil build up, and possibly my auto charger malfunction since it works perfectly for five months without recharging. Otherwise, I love it! I would definitely buy it again.

It was not easy for this unsavy computer user to pair with my phone (orginal Garmin bought in 2008 did not hve to be connected to computer or cell phone) but love the data it brings. I am still larning all it can do and have a few questions - may end up back at Best Buy for answers and tips.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 2nd Garmin purchase I have an older Garmin 5.5”x5.5” screen. It is also a drive smart. I started taking it out of my personal vehicle and using it in my work vehicle after my transfer. I finally decided to purchase a new Garmin and went w the 65. I had to update it via my computer and the app to give it the locals roads which I did not expect it would require. The update took a little over 2 hours or so to load and make the unit useful. After that the unit is a champ and processes requests faster and more accurately than the older unit. Glad I spent the money. Even happier that it was on sale during Christmas. Now it’s time to live life by logging some trips and favorites into the new Garmin.

The only thing that I have is a problem with the speech recognition, if you say the place where you want to go it will answer you back did you say and then will show something totally different on what you said. The speech recognition is very poor.
