Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Great Upgrade I had an older Nuvi GPS for several years and it seems that the USB port has become dysfunctional. So, my wife got me a new Drive 52 for my birthday. I was able to transfer the back-up of the Favorites addresses to the new unit without any difficulties. We have used it for two long distance drives with dozens of destinations each so far, with excellent results. The new features are great: Easier entry of Favorites, routing listing, maintenance of Favorites, Clearer display, etc.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Customer Since 2007 I have been loving Garmin GPS since 2007 and upgraded to the 52 series just a few weeks ago. I am still in love with Garmin and am impressed with the updated features. Since I am directionally challenged, Garmin has saved my rear end many times from being lost in America! Thank You Garmin...Youre a PEACH of a company!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from ? The start up procedure should change. It shows warning twice. It also says it’s not supported Unit is on my windshield. I have to stretch twice to start the program. Please fix. Display warning once and get rid of the not supported message because it starts anyway. Thanks l had an older one and it was great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not too impressed with it Its a bit complicated to use. I have found that I cannot detach it and enter in addresses,it always has to stay plugged in to work.it takes forever to use the touch screen to type in addresses and the format is not user friendly or intuitive.an example is you need to type in the street number first then you type in the street name. For some reason, mine will come up with surrounding states first in the suggestions, rather than the one I live in.I have small fingers, but for some reason, the touch feature will activate the number or letters above the one I am trying to touch/enter.its time consuming and I feel like I wasted the money on this item.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Features Very impressed with this Garmin especially for the price and the features you can easily change your route the way you want to go , it warns ahead of slower speed zones also for RR tracks and school zones, it works somewhat like the old Garmin's but with more features will probably get another

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for prepping This is my third vehicle Garmin. Beats other products based on its reliability and ease of use. My built-in vehicle GPS mapping software has produced errors from time to time. Unfortunately, these errors have resulted in some troubling recommendations. I can rely on Garmin to double-check the vehicle mapping unit. When in doubt, the Garmin is my gold-standard.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works well Took a while to get used to changes in the way you do certain things on the 52, compared to my old nuvi 1490. But it acquires satellites almost instantly (my 1490 took 10 minutes) And gives detailed directions. Works well. One thing that could be improved is the battery doesn't last very long when not plugged in , and even when unit is off it goes from full charge to dead in less than 2 days.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Battery is junk Battery didn't make 6 months. My Nuvi 1300 went 8 years. Evidently there is good reason you do not warrant batteries. I now have to wait 4 or 5 minutes for unit to activate. If you made cell phones you would be out of business.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good GPS with some Upgrades I have been using Garmin GPS units for many years since the 1990s, and and wanted to get into a newer on. I chose this Drive 52 at a discounted price and it works well. I like a number of newer options it provides a,d for a GTM 36 cable to provide traffic info for when I am traveling in areas covered. Older units I have had used separate rechargable batteries which was nice, but this one the battery is built in, but when disconnected from the power source the battery doesn't hold a charge very long. Other then that it's a good unit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Plenty Good Enuff 4 Me I bought the Garmin Drive 52 for my cruzin 'round town and quick trips away from home navigation instrument and found it to be alright. I also have the drive smart for my other car and both is the same except the drive smart got little bit more comm's features. I'm very happy of its capabilities and relatively eaze in trying to figure it out. The only concern I have is when you cross state lines and trying to find a place in another state, but it can't help because the GPS still reflect the original location as your home state. Took me awhile to figure it out. I am 66 and not that good of a tech wizard. Garmin should have figured it out that younger generations use their cell phones for navigation. Garmin GPS is for an older generation. Figure what us older folks can handle and put it in your product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked good I was disapointed that it is smaller than the 65 that I replaced. My wife runs it and I steer the car. It works with the Garmin in the car, they both report what to do next. She did have problems until getting used to it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Had a problem on trip. I traveled 250 miles and it worked fine. When ready to go home the travel screen would not turn on. I had to talk to Garmin when I got home. The fix is to hold the on/off button down and count to 30 slowly. Shouldn’t this be a warning in the directions when you receive the device

Rated 5 out of 5 by from tooooo many problems i bought this recently and i don't like it. i have had garmin gps's for many years and this is the worst one ever. it takes to long to find an address and routes me in circles and tells me to take a left turn when i know it should be a right turn and vice versa. it can't find addresses...it says they don't exist when i know they do. it takes to many steps to put in to finally get an address. i still have a couple of older gps's that i use because of this. i do delivery work and it makes it so much harder to put in street addresses for local deliveries. bring back the previous older more efficient devices. your new ones are very much a setback to the older models. you have to put in too much information and way to many steps to get an address. if i am looking for addresses in new york state i shouldn't have to keep spelling out new york state everytime i put in an address for a delivery. this is ridiculous.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Buy This was a great buy, especially with the promotional price. My only disappointment was the inability to order accessories for the unit. I use the unit on my motorcycle (as I did my "nuvi"). I was hoping that there would be a clamping type of holder available. The cell phone holder from "RAM" will hold the product but occasionally the unit will vibrate out of the holder. If there is a good product available, I would love to learn about it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not too happy To be honest, I am not overjoyed with the new software features. When I first used it and put in an address or a name of a church it could not find either. I finally found out I had to put the information in the search mode. This one feature cost me a lot of time and effort I should not have had to spend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No street information Love Garmin but they have messed up the map software. Streets are now numbers with no street names. How can you find some place with no street names. Disappointed for now. Hopefully an update will fix this. Have never had a problem with Garmin before.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A downgrade from my previous Garmin GPS My previous GPS was a Drive 60. It stopped operating after a couple of years and I elected to take Garmin up on an online sale. Every time I have purchased a newer Garmin I have been pleased with the update. Not this time. I upgraded at this particular time due to the anticipation of a cross country trip. I ordinarily customize the suggested route by introducing alternative towns as waypoints. That method is impossible with this particular unit. There is no “city” search within the categories available for searching. I have found ways to mitigate this deficit though it is laborious and unnecessary. Also, when searching for state sponsored Rest Areas I found that many are not included in the database that is delegated for that purpose. My wife gave me a very hard time when I informed her that I was going to purchase a new unit, saying that these devices are antiquated and redundant considering existing smart phones and free software. Now I wish I had listened, she was right.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Haven't used it yet, but.... I bought this Garmin Drive 52 because my old Garmin Nuvi's SD port would not work. All our cars have built-in navigation and I bought this unit to put in a rental car when we go to Africa. I purchased Garmin's South Africa SD card and I am confident that the Garmin Drive 52 will accurately navigate us.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Kept trying to take me the wrong way. I entered the address for a specific hotel in the Orlando area. The hotel was within a couple miles of where we were. Garmin attempted to take us about 20 miles out of our way towards the airport. Yes the address was confirm. Had to use my phone gps to correctly get us there. We were on a time crunch as we had a dining reservation. Only had about a week and this is just one example.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ok as a backup. It’s ok as a backup and works in areas where cell coverage goes out, but it’s not great. It’s good for National Parks, but it’s not as user friendly as the gps in any smart phone. I feel like I overpaid for a backup gps. Pros: works in rural areas. It shows upcoming places like restaurants, rest areas, gas stations when driving. Cons: not as easy to use as a gps in any smart phone. Not great at finding specific places like campsites or hotels. I paid around $135 and I feel it’s too much for the device’s shortcomings. Nevertheless, I’m glad I have a backup gps while I camp in remote areas.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It’s an OK machine. The machine does what it is supposed to do but it would be much better if more than 28 or 29 waypoints could be added. I use Basecamp to lay my routes out and the machine divides the route into a couple segments because of the waypoint limit. Additionally, it must have a really small battery because a full charge lasts less than 1/2 an hour.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A GPS for biking the roads. I got this on sale so I got a good value on the type GPS I need. Expensive biking GPS units have much trail information that I don't use, so I per this one. Years ago I got a Garmin that had maps of Europe and the US. It also had a bicycle mode which would give reasonable estimates of arrival time for bikes. This one isn't quite as good, but adequate.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Garnin 52 as a senior and a tech dummy, i liked the ease in which i was able to 'navigate' the garmin 52. i like the large screen and appreciated the ability to increase the volume. i have a prius with a screen in middle of the front panel where i was able to stick the suction holder. this made glancing at the map (but only at stops) very easy. the ability to change the fastest route and the shortest route was nice.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Like my Nuvi 2597, except that this one works I have a 5" Garmin GPS unit that I have had for 5 years or so, and it work fine except when I have to connect it to my MacBook. I have the original cable and a new official Garmin USB cable, and it only works about 15% of the time. The GPS unit knows there is a PC connected, but Garmin Apps cannot find my Nuvi. I was desperate the night before a trip, so I bought an open-box "Drive 52" at Cabellas. It communicates with my MacBook (using the old cables) 100% of the time, and I was able to download all my waypoints and leave in the morning. I noticed while driving that this unit may look the same, but it has better features. It signals you when you enter a School zone, or when the speed limit drops, something the Nuvi did not do. It wont accept the SD card from my Nuvi, so I do not have access to some Garmin Maps I paid good money for, but overall I am happy with this purchase. My guess is that the hardware and firmware are much newer, so it has better features than the Nuvi. I dropped this a star because I am not happy that my old unit is flaky. The mount and power cable (with traffic receiver) seem to work fine with the new unit. Not sure what I will do with the old unit now

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great technology, for 1995 I bought this (and the Euro map) for a trip to Italy so I did not have to use Waze and Terabytes of data. The system has a very slow processor, poor touch screen, and a terrible search capability. I was in Florence and wanted to find the ‘airport’, or the ‘aeroporto’ -it had no suggestions to find it! Similar success multiple times for other destinations. It can find a city, but unless you know, and enter the EXACT address in EXACTLY the right order, it just stares at you. When the competition is Waze, Google Maps, etc. guys ya gotta do a LOT better than this.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bad It is always taking the longest ways, even after updating. When I was setting it from Mississauga Canada to Chicago USA, the Garmin take the way through 403 west to Buffalo then to Chicago with drive time about 11 hours, while Wayz, Google map and i phone map taking me on 401 west to Windsor then to Chicago with driving time about 8 hours. Is there is a chance to return back and get my money back, it is less than one year since I bought from Canadian Tier store in Oakville?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great features, but could use one more We have a previous model (nuvi255W) and wanted to upgrade to the 52. The 52 is much faster to connect with satellites and provides excellent road views not available on the 255W. Voice guidance is clearer and louder than the 255W. One item we miss on the 52 is estimated time of arrival, which is on the 255W. I've not been able to find this feature on the 52. All in all this is a fine unit and I'm sure we will enjoy using more of the available features in the future.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A nice upgrade I've owned this for about a month now. It was purchased to replace a 20+ year old Garmin that was stolen from my car. The new device provides the same functionality as the old device, but the interface is significantly better. A few new (to me) features and what appears to be faster satellite acquisition and computing. I could use the same mounting and power connection as on my old device. Installation took all of 30 seconds! I would give the device 5 stars but I don't have traffic set up yet. I want to see how well it works before declaring this a perfect 10.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Features of Garmin Drive 52 This was a replacement for an earlier version Garmin 250. I liked the earlier version more than this. The routes this Garmin chooses are confusing. Garmin 52 doesn't say when it's recaluculating a route. It also chooses routes that sometimes lead through alleys. I'm not pleased with this replacement model.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good GPS, good price I've used a Drive 51 for a few years, and liked its accuracy, and the Drive 52 seems as good. Its features regarding everyday hazards are appreciated (RR X-ings, red light cameras, school zones, etc.), and it has features helpful for the traveler (Foursquare, TripAdvisor, and two others).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A GPS and MORE! I was using an automotive Garmin on my motorcycle and didn’t know they made one for motorcycles. What could be different…right? I now have the Zumba XT and the quality is off the charts…from the water proof power connection, the water proof casing, to the connection to my music through my iPhone to my headset. Although I finally figured it out, I wish they had better videos o how to get planned trips from your external planner to the Zuni XT. Great product!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Upgrade I have owned a Garmin Nuvi for over 10 years. I realized that I needed to replace my old unit because I couldn’t upgrade the maps anymore because of limited memory and the battery was almost dead. The new unit is similar to operate but I need more time to learn the newer features. Updating the maps was easy enough but a computer and WiFi are necessary.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Directions are good but some drawbacks Let me preface this by saying we used to have a nuvi 1450, which was a pleasure to use. We just moved to the Jacksonville, FL area and have been establishing ourselves with a whole new set of doctors, banks, car repair places, etc. and so a lot of new addresses pile up in Recents. But to associate the address with the company name we have to put it in Saves. Saves doesn't allow enough entries (only 6 or 7). Also the device emits a loud noise when exceeding the speed limit, and I can't find how to opt out of that. Plus there's a camera icon in the upper right corner that clicks when it is touched inadvertently. I guess it is snapping a picture each time but there seems to be no way to get to the stored pictures to delete them or look at them. Also the Drive 52 didn't come with a Garmin-to-computer cable or a storage box, which I had to buy separately. And the device asks if we want to avoid tolls for a given route. We say no, but then it wants to force us into the toll lanes rather than giving us the option.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well it is a Garmin, I'll give it a point for that I use my flat GPS's sort of as a HUD map. This Drive 52 a little disappointing in that I have noticed some significant errors in the reported speed limits. Some of these errors could be serious if I didn't already know the actual posted limit of the roadway I was on. I haven't found any easy way to report the error to Garmin, I bet some shady law enforcement has reported the online speeds higher than the posted speeds to increase the number of citations written.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from nice and easy to use My wife bought this for me for Christmas, and I was super excited because my old garmin that i bought my first garmin in 1998, and it finally died in november of 2023. I checked for updates, made sure it was charged up, ran outside and plugged it in. then sat out in the car looking at all the features. My kids all say buy a new car with a gps built in or use your phone, I like the fact that I can unplug it and take it with me. Don't even doubt that the Garmin GPS is worth it, because it is, and it notifies you when you coming up on school zone so you can reduce your speed. The big screen easy to read, and it looks good. This is a homerun!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple And To The Point Bought this to replace a 15 year old TomTom. Has everything I need. Love the lifetime map updates. Simple and easy to use. Purchased a 32 Gb micro card. Anyone thinking about buying this will need to add since the first round of map updates took up 92% of the internal memory. Card was around $8.00, not a big deal. I have mounted this one with an air vent mount which I like better. Overall, very satisfied.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from dissapointed I bought this Garmin, even though it was an older model, because I travel in places where there is no cell service. It does not seem to be updating to the actual speed limits in the area and setting in locations and other items for routes is very difficult and it seems to put me in other parts of the USA than where I want to be.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Things missing.......... It needs a Detour button on screen so you can easily change your route. It also needs a trip planner feature so you can set up a route through 10-20 cities where you will pass by, but not drive to the post office each time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from nice upgrade over my previous gps! a feature that I especially enjoyed was that when it gives you an instruction it doesn't just say a street name, or to turn right. Instead it will give a landmark as well, eg. "at the second traffic light turn left" or "turn right before the singin gas station". Also, it tells you which lane to be in eg. "be in either the two left lanes"

Rated 5 out of 5 by from New feature I bought this unit 2 weeks ago and have not been disappointed. I discovered a new (to me) feature, which is very nice. This unit announces a speed limit change. My old one would warn of upcoming school zones, so it took me a little time to figure out the alert when I wasn't near a school zone. Very useful.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Some Nice Improvements I really like the suggestions when I'm searching for a specific destination. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Reliable I bought this to replace my Nuvi 50 and enjoy that this one has a more touch friendly screen, is quick to find satellites, and ease of use. The only minus is the spoken directions are hard to hear even at the top level and sounds tinny. The bright split screen is handy for those trips where you need to know exactly which lane to be in.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Battery Charhing I bought 2 of these devices, one my car and one the wife's car. We plugged them in overnight and brought them up to a full charge. A couple days later we went to use one and the battery was dead. We tried the other one and it did the same thing. We have to charge the battery just before we use it which is very frustrating. We think the charge longer than a day or two, if its not being used.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works well as a GPS, backup camera not so much. I like the GPS, the warnings for upcoming speed limit changes and things like school zones is a nice feature. The suction mount seems to be much improved over older Garmin units. One of the reasons I purchased it was to use it with the Garmin BC-30 backup camera accessory. The quality of the backup camera image is very poor, that was a big disappointment. From my past experience with Garmin products I would have expected the backup camera to be much better.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Garmin Drive 52 I bought this a month or two ago and when I first used it it was very difficult to touch the numbers and letters to enter an address. If you touch the letter you want it takes the letter above it so you have to touch just below it. I am thinking about calling the retailer where I bought it and exchanging it hoping a different one will be OK? I have an older version and it doesn't do this. Other than that I like it

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Still getting to know it It seems to not continue the original instructions. Both of my Garmins tell me to go left, then right to get out to Rt 31. That is a bad intersection on a curve from that road. Unless I have another persopn in the car with me, I don't go that way. I make a left & go 1/2 mile to the stop light. My old Garmin just continued on with the original, sending my up that main road. The new Garmin took me on back roads to the destination, but brought me back the other way. I have to figure out what to do to keep the original directions.

Two recommendations: 1...Get a micro SD card that it can support (max 32 GB) so maps have room to expand into for storage. 2...Set a calendar reminder for connecting your device to your computer occasionally for map and other updates with Garmin Express software (I have mine set to remind every 3 months)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Somewhat dissapointed I drive for a living and have owned many Garmin units including my initial Streetpilot (still pumping out music in my garage via its internal MP3 player), two Nuvi 205"s, (one is still active on my jetski), a 55LM, and now a 52. At the start of my workday, It's not uncommon for me to enter 10-15 stops in just one sitting and then sequence them. I was really pleased with my 55 but the screen eventually got scratched and became unusable, so I had to replace it. Its replacement, my current 52, has been a real disappointment. IT TAKES FOREVER TO CALCULATE JUST ONE STOP! Entering zip codes also has a notable delay. It's especially frustrating when it has to recalculate while I'm moving due to street closures, detours, etc. I literally have to pull over and wait for it to figure out where the heck it's going. I tried updating the software and maps via Express but to no avail. I have not had this problem with any of my other units. Their calculation was lightning fast! Not sure where to go from here
