Fortinet FortiManager 200F - network management device is rated 4.30 out of 5 by 42.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Zero-touch provisioning lets you add new devices without configuring, but setup is a bit complex What is most valuable? There is something called zero-touch provisioning, where you can add a new device without any configuration. You just add it to FortiManager and then forget about it. What needs improvement? FortiManager could be simpler. For how long have I used the solution? I'm not using FortiManager at this company, but I've been using it with different organizations for maybe five years. So haven't been using it continuously. Sometimes it's a different solution. What do I think about the stability of the solution? I would say that FortiManager is stable. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? It's fairly easy to scale up FortiManager. I think it's suitable for large businesses. How are customer service and support? Fortinet's support is good. How was the initial setup? Setting up FortiManager can be complex because it involves changes from other devices and a lot of configuration. The time needed for deployment depends on the environment and size. For a small environment, it takes two or three days if it's the environment. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? FortiManager is not too expensive. What other advice do I have? I rate FortiManager seven out of 10. I would recommend it to others. Which deployment model are you using for this solution? On-premises Disclaimer: My company has a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer:Partner

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to manage, good interface, and simple to use What is our primary use case? I have used the FortiManager to implement and manage the Fortigate solution in one company that we implemented Fortinet. We use the FortiManager to manage all the Fortigates, firewalls, projects, and old projects. What is most valuable? The best feature of Fortinet FortiManager is its ease of use. It is easy to manage the firewall from Fortinet FortiManager. Additionally, the interface is very good. What needs improvement? The FortiManager is more complex and they can make it easier to use the VPN manager. All other features are okay. However, the VPN manager is more difficult and can cause some issues in the environment, if you do not have the experience to use it. For how long have I used the solution? I used Fortinet FortiManager within the last 12 months. What do I think about the stability of the solution? The stability is good. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? The scalability of Fortinet FortiManager is very good. How are customer service and support? The technical support is good. How was the initial setup? The initial setup is easy. What about the implementation team? The amount of technicians you would need for the implementation of Fortinet FortiManager depends on the environment. If you have many firewalls managed by FortiManager, you need more people. However, one person can manage the FortiManager, but you have the Fortigate environment to manage, you need more people, for example approximately four for the environment. What other advice do I have? I encourage the use of this solution. It is very good because they make it easy to manage the environment. I rate Fortinet FortiManager a nine out of ten. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Enabled us to manage 50 sites from a central management console What is our primary use case? FortiManager is software that enables you to manage the solution from a central point. For instance, we had 50 sites and were able to manage all the sites from a central management console. This solution is deployed on-premises. My company was using version 7. There were 5,000 people using this solution in my company. How has it helped my organization? We had a security policy that was deployed on all the devices, and we managed it from only one place. We didn't have to manage it on each piece of equipment. Second, regarding the configuration of SD-WAN, we could build configuration templates on FortiManager and push the templates from FortiManager to the different Fortigate units. What is most valuable? This solution enables you to centralize the rules and the configuration of all the equipment. What needs improvement? One of the biggest limitations is the grammar of the API – not the API itself. It was not very well done. The CLI could be enhanced. What do I think about the stability of the solution? Stability was good. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? Scalability was very good. How are customer service and support? Technical support was excellent. We bought the optional support, so we paid an additional fee. We had dedicated support just for us. We had one person who was really good and helped us design the solution. We had a very good design, so the deployment was good afterward. How was the initial setup? Setup is of medium difficulty. It's not that complicated, but it's not easy. On a scale of 1 to 5, I would rate it a 3. It's not a simple plug and play, but it's not that difficult either. For the design and deployment, we used four people. For maintenance, we only needed one part-time engineer per year. What about the implementation team? We used an external company to run the deployment, and it took us three months to finish the design of the solution and three months to deploy all the boxes and all sites. We had some people who were helping us deploy because there were several sites all over the country, so there were some people who were going on-site. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? For the licensing fee, we paid around 10,000 to 15,000 euros. What other advice do I have? I would rate this solution 7 out of 10. My advice is to know your product before you start using it. Which deployment model are you using for this solution? Rated 5 out of 5 by from Integrates well, stable, and good technical support What is our primary use case? Fortinet FortiManager can be used to manage all your Fortinet solutions. We are using it as a VM solution. What is most valuable? Fortinet FortiManager allows a full view of all the devices on the network from one location. Fortinet FortiManager integrates will with other Fortinet solutions, such as FortiAnalyzer. What needs improvement? The solution could improve by having better integration with other solutions other than Fortinet. For how long have I used the solution? I have been using Fortinet FortiManager for years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? The solution is very stable. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? The solution is scalable, it is good for large companies to manage their devices. We have six customers using this solution. How are customer service and support? The technical support is very good. What about the implementation team? We have one engineer that does the implementation and maintenance of the solution. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? The license model they use depends on the size and is not limited to the users. What other advice do I have? The solution is good but we want to move to the cloud at some point to save money on infrastructure. For example, on the cloud, we would not need a server room or data center building. I would recommend this solution to others. I rate Fortinet FortiManager a ten out of ten. Disclaimer: My company has a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer:Partner

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simplified central management system with good stability and scalability What is our primary use case? We used Fortinet FortiManager for managing multiple firewalls, because they had six or seven branches, so they need a single point of management. The Fortinet FortiAnalyzer was used for getting the logs out of all of these books, to store them in one place. What is most valuable? What I found most valuable about Fortinet FortiManager is its simplicity. I didn't see anything special about it compared to other vendors, and I'm working with multiple vendors, but when talking about this solution, it's always the simplicity that's valuable. What needs improvement? There's nothing special about it compared to other vendors, except for its simplicity. This solution needs more experienced technical support staff. For how long have I used the solution? I've worked with Fortinet FortiManager for three years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? Stability for this solution is good. I didn't see any issues with our customer. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? I wasn't able to try Fortinet FortiManager on enterprise customers, or large-scale customers, but for small and medium-sized businesses, it was more than okay. It's scalable. How are customer service and support? How good the technical support will be depends on the product where we need them. For the firewalls, all of them are good. For Fortinet FortiManager, I didn't see a lot of experienced people in there, but I didn't need them for complicated issues. It's the technical support team for firewalls who was very good. How was the initial setup? The initial setup for this solution was straightforward. As for its deployment, the design and planning took around three months, e.g. we talked about the design, project plan, scope of work, etc. Implementation just took one week. What was our ROI? For the ROI, for a five-year project, Fortinet FortiManager would be the best option to use. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? This is an affordable solution, and it's based on the number of devices. I did read that the licensing model has changed recently, but I'm not using the new licensing model. What other advice do I have? There was a solution we used last 2021. We implemented Fortinet, and it was the major project we were dealing with at the time. We used everything from Fortinet, e.g. analytics management, logs, etc. It was only Fortinet we implemented, and not any other solution. We implemented Fortinet FortiManager for orchestration and management, then for the loads, we implemented Fortinet FortiAnalyzer. For firewalls, we have 4800F and 60F. We've implemented them in multiple sites, so those were the main components. During the implementation, I jumped between versions and did some upgrades, because with Fortinet, there are new versions that only work for short periods, so I had to upgrade the version multiple times during the implementation. The deployment for Fortinet FortiManager was via a virtual machine, and it was on private cloud. We used the customer infrastructure to implement and install Fortinet FortiManager and FortiAnalyzer, so that particular cloud was owned by the customer, so there's no cloud provider for that. We have 500 users of this solution. It was a medium-sized project. I didn't see anything missing on Fortinet FortiManager. I like it the way it is. I'm happy with it, so I can't think of anything they should add in terms of features. I would give Fortinet FortiManager the highest score because even a junior can implement it. It does not require too much knowledge or scale to implement a project, so I'm rating it a ten out of ten. Which deployment model are you using for this solution? Private Cloud If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use? Rated 5 out of 5 by from Saves time and makes it easy to manage a large number of devices What is our primary use case? We are using FortiManager to manage all the equipment. We have a hybrid deployment. How has it helped my organization? We are managing a research and education network, and we have about 200 Fortinet FortiGate devices dispatched in the country. We are managing all of them with FortiManager. It has simplified the management and reduced the time to configure the devices. What is most valuable? It is easy to manage a large number of devices with FortiManager. What needs improvement? Its licensing model should be improved. For how long have I used the solution? We started using it this year. What do I think about the stability of the solution? It is a stable solution. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? It is scalable. How are customer service and support? Their support is very good. I don't have any issues with their technical support. How was the initial setup? It is very easy. What about the implementation team? We did it ourselves. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? For us, it is a little bit expensive. What other advice do I have? I would rate it a nine out of ten. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy firmware upgrades but some stability issues What is our primary use case? I primarily use FortiManager to manage central policies and maintain a single pane of glass. What is most valuable? FortiManager's most valuable features are web-based or web-rule-based policies, SD-WAN, and the ease of upgrading to new firmware. What needs improvement? FortiManager would be improved by putting everything into a single console, including Microsoft O365 integration. Its stability could also be better. For how long have I used the solution? I've been using FortiManager for three years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? FortiManager is pretty stable, but there are some bugs - for example, with some of the OCVPNs not getting managed properly. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? FortiManager is scalable. How are customer service and support? Fortinet's technical support is helpful. Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch? I previously worked with Check Point and ASA but switched to FortiManager as it's more cost-effective. How was the initial setup? The initial setup is pretty easy and took around one day for fifteen devices. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? FortiManager is reasonably priced - I pay around US$40,0000 per year, which covers fifty locations. What other advice do I have? FortiManager is the best suite for SMBs, and I would rate it as six out of ten. Which deployment model are you using for this solution? Hybrid Cloud If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use? Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good features and fair pricing but needs better connectivity with FortiManager and FortiSwitch What is most valuable? I like the features on offer. For example, SD-WAN. It's one single configuration point for everything, especially when you have a headquarters and branch. The VPN also is beneficial also. The correlation with the FortiAnalyzer is very good with FortiManager. The solution is very stable. We find the pricing to be fair. What needs improvement? I didn't like the connectivity with FortiManager and FortiSwitch, which was buggy and annoying and had fewer features. For example, sometimes you could change something in FortiManager, and then you had to upload another version of the configuration. If you changed something on the suite side, you had a problem. The correlation between FortiManager and the Forti suites was not that good. I'd like more visibility and more troubleshooting features for the whole VPN. I'd like a better quality of service and maybe more features. We always compare features with what other vendors offer to see if there is added value from a certain product. From what I've seen, for example, with SD-WAN that Cisco used to build, which was similar to the VPN for FortiManager, it was quite easy to implement in comparison. For how long have I used the solution? I've used this solution for the last four years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? It is a stable product. The performance is good. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? It's scalable if you have many devices. It makes things easier, especially if you want to have a VPN and stuff like that. When you have lots of devices, it's very helpful as a solution. Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch? I work with a variety of Fortinet products, including FortiGate, FortiManager, FortiAnalyzer, and FortiWiFi with access points. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? The pricing is quite reasonable. I can't speak to exact pricing as I don't handle the licensing aspects. In some cases, where customers have two or three devices, it comes for free. What other advice do I have? I'm a Fortinet partner. I'd rate the solution seven out of ten. Disclaimer: My company has a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer:Partner

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Robust with decent pricing and lots of features What is our primary use case? FortiManager is used just to manage a lot of devices from Fortinet, especially FortiGate. We can push the configuration, we can push the packages, and we can change the configuration from the FortiManager via centralized management. What is most valuable? There are a lot of features that are important to us. For example, we like that we can roll back to the previous configuration, or push configuration on devices remotely. We also have the ability to save the configuration on FortiManager. If there is an issue with the devices, we can report the configuration remotely. It's a very rich, robust product. The integration is quite good. Its pricing is decent. This solution is easy to set up. The solution is able to scale quite well. What needs improvement? We are not missing any features at this time. I don't have any expectations about additional features. The storage could be better for logs. There is a degradation of performance if we activate logs on FortiManager. For how long have I used the solution? I've been using the solution for four years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? The solution is stable. We haven't faced any performance issues. There are no bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? It's scalable. It's easy to expand. How was the initial setup? The solution is very straightforward and simple. It's not overly complex to implement. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? The pricing is reasonable. It varies. Sometimes we need to buy many appliances and sometimes just a few. There are some additional costs sometimes from our partner. It depends on the size of the environment of our clients. We can negotiate on and maybe lower the price if a lot of devices are needed. What other advice do I have? We are a VMware vendor. We work with a local partner. We are a kind of integrator. With respect to the requirements, new users should consider performance and be sure to tune the solution correctly during the configuration and integration. It will ensure it works well once it is up and running. I'd rate the solution nine out of ten. Which deployment model are you using for this solution? Rated 5 out of 5 by from User-friendly and very clear with easy to push templates What is our primary use case? FortiManager, we're just managing our FortiGates deployed in our different sites, and we are monitoring our MSSP solution there from the FortiManager. There are different sites and different clients that have their different FortiGates. The FortiManager manages all FortiGates. We push templates. If there are any changes in the FortiGate, we're just not doing that directly to the FortiGate, we are managing it via FortiManager. What is most valuable? It was very amazing. The things were very clear. I pushed templates from FortiManager to our site, and they were deployed successfully. It was quite enjoyable. The templates are great. They are very helpful. You make a template and push it to the FortiGate, and it's been working fine. It's pretty user-friendly. Technical support is helpful. The solution can scale. It's stable. What needs improvement? I didn't use the alternative FortiManager yet, so I'm happy with the FortiManager right now. If I use some other product, then I should be able to isolate things, and I'd like some sort of isolation feature in the product. There's nothing I can say that's a negative point. When I started, it was a bit difficult, however, now it's okay. It can be a bit complex for basic users. If I'm defining a subnet, I need to define it in two different locations. We have to create the subnet and then name it as well. So there are two different ways to define a single subnet, and it should only be one. What do I think about the stability of the solution? The solution is very stable. There are no bugs or glitches. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? The solution is scalable. We have a lot of customers on the product and some are expanding. How are customer service and support? Technical support is very helpful and responsive. Every time we open a ticket, they help us and make sure it's resolved. Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch? We did not previously use a different solution. How was the initial setup? I didn't deploy FortiManager. I'm just operating it. When I joined the company, it was already deployed, and we didn't deploy any other FortiManager. I didn't work on implementation. My understanding, however, is that it would not be that difficult. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? Compared to competitors like Cisco, Fortinet is very reasonable. Which other solutions did I evaluate? We didn't research any other solutions. We like and prefer FortiManager. What other advice do I have? We are Fortinet partners. The solution is deployed on-premises in our data center. I'd rate the solution eight out of ten. Which deployment model are you using for this solution? On-premises Disclaimer: My company has a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer:Partner

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best stability for application control and inspections What is our primary use case? I am a systems integrator and work with customers to integrate the solution. What is most valuable? The solution has the best stability for application control and inspections. What needs improvement? The fabric for integrations or connections could be improved. This would make a big difference for some customers. For how long have I used the solution? I have been using the solution for more than five years. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? The solution is very scalable so I rate scalability a ten out of ten. How are customer service and support? Support has an overall lack of knowledge. We have opened many tickets for support but they don't even answer them. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? Pricing could improve a little bit so I rate it a seven out of ten. What other advice do I have? It is important to select the features you need at the outset. Some customers don't do this correctly so their hardware doesn't perform as well. Take into account the applications you want to run on the solution when selecting features. I rate the solution an eight out of ten. Disclaimer: My company has a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer:Partner

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Expandable and useful for management purposes but the price may be high for smaller environments What is our primary use case? We are one of the partners, so we are using it for customer testing for managers, owners, and others at head office. We are looking at FortiManager in terms of quality deployment and ability to manage everything. We're using it for management. How has it helped my organization? We are using a VM version and can scale it as we need. It depends on our license, however, we find we can scale. What is most valuable? The general policy, its integration, and deployment are all easy. We don't have a lot of devices, however, it creates a center where we can manage everything. The initial setup is very simple. The solution is stable. It's a scalable product. What needs improvement? The GUI is not ideal. It needs to be improved. It should be more user-friendly. For how long have I used the solution? I've been using the solution for around two years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? The product is a stable one. From time to time, we may see bugs, however, overall, it's a stable one. It doesn't crash or freeze. It is reliable. How are customer service and support? The support has been good. They are helpful and responsive. We're pleased with the level of service we get. How would you rate customer service and support? Positive Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch? I don't have much experience with the other products compared to this product. The main reason that it's been chosen for clients is it's very well integrated with the rest of the Fortinet environment. For example, if somebody has an environment in SuccessFactors, FortiManager is good. How was the initial setup? It's very simple to set up the solution. It's not overly complex or difficult. The documentation helps with any complexity. I'd rate the solution four out of five in terms of ease of deployment. You just need a single engineer, a software engineer, to set up and maintain the solution. Someone who has Fortigate knowledge should have no problem handling the solution. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? When you are going for a massive FortiGate environment, the costs compared to your investment would be fine. However, if you're going for below ten devices, the cost will be a little bit high. You would have to justify the expense. I'd rate it a three out of five in terms of availability. What other advice do I have? We are a Fortinet partner. I'd rate the solution seven out of ten. Disclaimer: My company has a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer:Partner

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to set up with good central management and helpful support What is our primary use case? We have 20 Forti Firewalls, including FortiManager. We use it for firewall management as we have many objects. In FortiManager, we use one type of object and implementation, the different firewalls. What is most valuable? The most valuable feature is having one object on all networks, which allows for implementation only once. We can have that object on one firewall or many, and we don't have to do everything one by one. It's easy to set up the solution. Stability is good within the product. It is scalable. Technical support is helpful and knowledgeable. The central management is great. It's very transparent. If I am troubleshooting for people who have a problem connecting to the network, then I can just open FortiManager and see all of the history of the connection. It makes it easy if I have to adjust a configuration. What needs improvement? The rules need to be more flexible. I prefer configuring rules and the VPN on the standalone device, not on the manager. For how long have I used the solution? I've used the solution for three years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? It's quite stable. It's reliable, and the performance is good. There are no bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? We have found the product to be scalable. It's not a problem if you want to expand it. For example, if you want to add another 10 or 15 firewalls, will it have any problems How are customer service and support? We have technical support in my local language. The person who assists us is senior and he's a master of FortiManager. He knows many options for configurations. Their technical support is very responsive. They are very knowledgeable. How would you rate customer service and support? Positive How was the initial setup? It's easy to set up the product. It's an easy deployment. If I have a new box, we just have to create a template, and I add a new FortiGate to FortiManager, and implementation becomes only standard configuration via FortiManager. We do any password policy, proxy pack, and other features we implement, we do so through FortiManager. Other updates, for example, a hostname or object, is from FortiManager. However, if I create any specific rule on a specific VPN, we configure that on the device. I'd rate the solution four out of five in terms of ease of implementation. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? We bought FortiManager as an option as we bought maybe five firewalls plus a license to FortiManager. The implementation site gave me only one price, which included both solutions. It was basically a package. It's moderately priced. I'd rate it a three out of five in terms of affordability. What other advice do I have? We had average security knowledge about management, and we started with a demo project. It was from Fortigate Support. They gave me two or three months free to try out FortiManager. I'd advise people to take the time to test it and see how it works. I'd rate the solution eight out of ten. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Intuitive multi-use solution suitable for large companies with experienced technical staff What is our primary use case? We use the solution for SD-WAN customers, deployment, and interface management. What is most valuable? The SD-WAN deployment environment, and the SD-WAN templates are particularly useful for us. Also, we have found that managing the solution is very intuitive, which is perfect for us. What needs improvement? The interface could be improved. It is split up into different areas, which makes it more difficult to navigate and get the right section of the correct file. For how long have I used the solution? We have been using this solution for over two years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? We have found the solution to be stable during our time using it. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? We have found the solution to be easily scalable. How are customer service and support? We have direct support, and sometimes issues aren't resolved as quickly as we would like them to be. However, they are always willing to help, and they will escalate issues if they aren't resolved to our liking. How would you rate customer service and support? Positive How was the initial setup? The initial setup of the solution was very straightforward. What about the implementation team? The implementation was carried out in-house. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? The solution requires you to have a license for every device, as well as for any advanced features being used, which makes it costly for high-volume users. However, for a large-scale environment with a lot of customers we have found it to be a worthwhile investment. What other advice do I have? This product requires knowledge of firewalls in order for the initial setup to be straightforward, and to ensure the product is effective once installed. We also found that deployment is easy through this solution. The solution requires updates, during which it needs to communicate with the Fortinet Cloud. However, it can do this automatically, if the firewalls are set up correctly. The solution is quite expensive, so it would not be suitable for small to medium sized organizations. I would rate this solution as eight out of ten. Which deployment model are you using for this solution? Rated 5 out of 5 by from Central deployment, quick technical support with urgent tickets, not costly What is most valuable? In our use case, we manage the configuration of all the firewalls so we can create different versions. We are able to do a centralized deployment and if any changes are there, we can map them with the authorization policies. If somebody makes a mistake with the configuration we can revert back to the old configuration. With Fortinet FortiManager, we can manage multiple firewalls and devices from a central point. What needs improvement? When we have a specific configuration pushed it does take some time to be deployed on the actual firewall. There might be some bugs or issues in that particular case. Sometimes we need to, if it is in a cluster mode, reboot the firewall. If the configuration does not go properly we have to reboot. These are small changes that will make things seamless. When upgrades are deployed, Fortinet FortiManager should identify if a specific device is not matching with other devices. I think it is there, but then in the perspective of alerts and logs, the uneven configuration is there. It should be today's alert. For example, disaster recovery site, there is a firewall. If someone changes it in the primary production area and then they forget to change it in their area, there should be an alert. For how long have I used the solution? I have been using Fortinet FortiManager for the past four years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? It is stable. If Fortinet FortiManager goes down, then accessing an individual firewall is a different process altogether. Obviously, security devices are there, so basically those security points are available. I don't know if a cloud-based Fortinet FortiManager is available right now. But then on-premise, we have to take care of the devices, and the availability of those devices. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? It is scalable and there is no issue. You can have available devices and you can scale. The only thing is you need to do capacity planning. How many firewalls are there and the model of Fortinet FortiManager has to be decided? If you do this properly, then there is no issue. How are customer service and support? Technical support is great. When we have sent urgent tickets and they do reply back within fifteen minutes. How would you rate customer service and support? Positive Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch? We have Palo Alto, Fortinet, Cisco, and WatchGuard. We also work with Juniper. How was the initial setup? For people who are not used to operating it, it is a little complex. What was our ROI? Fortinet Fortimanger is not costly. They have high-end devices and the portfolio is big. Basically, they have a portfolio for all the aspects of security. From that perspective, they are good. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? The price point is very good. What other advice do I have? I would rate Fortinet FortiManager an eight out of ten. Which deployment model are you using for this solution? Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good features, excellent reports, and helpful central management capabilities What is our primary use case? We primarily use the solution for managing FortiGate devices. What is most valuable? We like the central management capabilities. The reports feature is excellent. What needs improvement? If you have more than one FortiMail device, you can't manage it then with FortiManager on FortiGate. It needs more integration with more Fortinet devices. For how we use the solution, we do not need any new features. For how long have I used the solution? I've been using the solution for close to ten years. It's been a long time. What other advice do I have? I'm a consultant and I work with Fortinet solutions. I'd rate the solution nine out of ten. It's been good overall. We've been pleased with its capabilities. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good centralization and management with great reliabilty What is our primary use case? We primarily use the solution for managing firewalls. What is most valuable? We enjoy the centralization of all roles and objects and so on. As a manager, you can manage 50 or 40 firewalls with only one product. The initial setup is easy. It is stable. What needs improvement? The solution should be more open to other products. FortiManager must be able to manage other products from other vendors. While it's perfect for other Forti products, it's not ideal for everything. This is not available to work with many other vendors in the cloud. In the end, you want only one view of your own security view of everything, which is impossible with FortiManager. Of course, this is the case with Palo Alto as well. For how long have I used the solution? I've been using the solution for seven or eight years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? It is a stable, reliable product. The solution has good performance. There are no bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? The product is likely scalable, however, we haven't pushed it. We have no experience with many numbers, such as 200 or 600 devices. We scale up to 60 firewalls. How are customer service and support? Forti support is quite good. Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch? We work with Fortinet and Palo Alto. How was the initial setup? The initial setup was not complex. However, we did the initial setup seven years ago. What other advice do I have? We are Fortinet partners at this moment. I'm not sure of the exact version we are on. I'm more on the sales side. We manage from Spain many firewalls around the world, and at this moment, it's very necessary to have FortiManager. It's just too bad we can't manage other vendors. I'd rate the solution at an eight out of ten. I'd rate it higher if it offered more outside-brand integrations. Which deployment model are you using for this solution? Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to set up, quick response to threats, and collaborates well with other Fortinet products What is our primary use case? Our client was at the start of a network automation journey. They were a multi-brand network environment and they started investing in the FortiManager to support their vision of network and security orchestration. That was their first step in a series of steps to build up their security capabilities or at least to get better visibility on the security topics within their environment. With a different team, they also deployed the Nessus and Lansweeper in the same environment to do automated vulnerability sweeps. Before I left that customer, there were plans of deploying additional Fortinet products - FortiAnalyzer, for example. I left the customer team in February this year, so I'm not updated anymore on what's happening there. What is most valuable? This was the first time for me to work with the FortiManager or a similar product. It was an interesting learning for me personally, to understand how we could do centralized management of these firewalls. At the same time, while we were deploying the solution, I considered how useful it would be in collaboration with other Fortinet products, for example, the Analyzer, and the FortiSIEM, to really get automated security responses. That's what the vision was. To have a quicker response to security events, the customer wanted to eventually acquire the capabilities to do automated security responses, just to make it faster to respond to security events. Even without the security orchestration, just the fact that the customer could request the firewall team to configure a job that would roll out a configuration on the firewalls and it could be deployed across all the firewalls through the FortiManager. That was a big improvement compared to deploying the new firewall rule on each firewall sequentially. So being able to roll it out to all the firewalls in the same change, was a big improvement in terms of being able to respond more quickly to any security events. The initial setup was straightforward. What needs improvement? Within the management of some features on FortiManager, specifically the management of user objects used for VPN service, FortiManager is quite weak. This was the case as of the time when we deployed them, which was one software cycle ago. I don't know whether that deficiency was fixed, however, we found it was easier to make changes to the VPN user objects, and local user objects. It was much easier to make the changes directly on the firewall than with FortiManager because in FortiManager you have to go through different windows, and even the CLI, in order to make the changes to the user database. It's just a matter of improving the UI, being able to manipulate objects that could be manipulated using the firewall GUI for example. It's just about expanding the features of the product so that whatever you can do on the firewall, you can also do it at the same level of convenience on the FortiManager. For how long have I used the solution? I used the solution for a while. I used it just last year. The project ended in February this year, so it has been several months now since I last touched FortiManager. What do I think about the stability of the solution? The solution was stable. I left that customer last February, so I don't know how it is now. At the point I left, it was stable. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? With regards to scalability, with the on-prem solution, I would say it won't be as scalable as a more virtual solution, either on the cloud or on-prem. With virtualized environments, you can scale easily. With appliances, you do have hard limits in terms of capabilities. Once the number of devices exceeds the limits of the product, then you have no choice but to upgrade to a higher model of FortiManager. We have two clients who use FortiManager in their environment. How are customer service and support? The overall support was okay. We only had issues really when we raised several tickets to help solve the synchronization of the user objects, I felt it took much longer than it should have. It took several weeks before we finally definitively were told it won't work and this is what we need to do. Therefore, it took much longer than I felt it should have taken. For other topics that we raised during the deployment, they were quite helpful, however. How was the initial setup? I helped the project team in implementing it. It was the first time that we implemented FortiManager. The initial setup was straightforward. If you wanted just to do the basic configuration, it's quite straightforward. That said, it was straightforward except we had some big issues, and big challenges in our first attempt to put all the devices in the same ADOM as each device had a fair amount of custom firewall rules and custom firewall objects already existing, and each firewall at the branch site was also acting as a local VPN hub. We had a lot of local user objects and we discovered quite quickly that when we had a lot of user objects for the same user, but on different firewalls, when we wanted to put them into the same ADOM, it created a huge challenge in synchronizing user objects because these user objects on different firewalls are considered to be different user objects owned by the same physical person. They had the same username and the same authentication credentials, so it created an issue in synchronization. Eventually, after consulting with Fortinet, we had to redo our design. That was the only hiccup we had in the design during implementation. Had we known about this requirement, had we understood that particular technical constraint earlier, our design from the beginning would have been much different. The deployment itself took four months. We had two technical people who set up the solution, however, neither were full-time. You only really need one full-time person. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? The licenses that we purchased as part of the project were for three years. I don't remember the price anymore. I can't recall the monthly license fee. In any case, the licenses were purchased for three-year periods. What other advice do I have? I'd rate the product eight out of ten. Rated 5 out of 5 by from The single-pane device management is great but bugs cause stability issues What is our primary use case? Our company recommends the solution to customers as a single management platform for multiple Fortinet devices such as FortiAP, FortiSwitch, and FortiGate. What is most valuable? The solution brings device management into one single pane of glass and is a pretty good product. What needs improvement? The solution has some bugs that we have to fix for customers. We provide feedback about these issues to Fortinet for future development or updates. More software stability is needed to prevent breakdowns. For how long have I used the solution? I have been using the solution for one month. What do I think about the stability of the solution? The solution is pretty stable and integrates well with cloud tools. More stability and bug fixes are needed to prevent breakdowns. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? The solution is pretty scalable and can support 4,000 devices on a single pane. How are customer service and support? Technical support could be better because it takes them awhile to handle items. More technical resources and knowledge are needed within the technical support department. How was the initial setup? The setup is straightforward. It is important to design and test systems to ensure they align with best practices in the security domain. What about the implementation team? We implement the solution for customers. Deployments are quick and take a couple of minutes to a couple of hours depending on use cases. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? The pricing is based on a licensing model by feature. What other advice do I have? The solution is used widely and is good for small or medium-sized enterprises. It can be scaled further for larger enterprises. I recommend the solution and rate it a seven out of ten. Which deployment model are you using for this solution? Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to setup but dashboard could be improved What is our primary use case? We are using a virtual machine for the FortiManager. It's already installed, and we just collected the seven units under the FortiManager. So we don't need to access each device separately. It collects all the FortiGate units in one console. We see the statistics and the status for all machines from the FortiManager. It is easy to control and monitor all the remote devices. What is most valuable? The main benefit of Fortinet FortiManager is the ability to control all the devices from a central location, view their statuses, and manage their configurations and updates from a single management console. What needs improvement? The price may only be applicable for bigger companies, and there is room for improvement in the FortiManager in license models. In general, the SIM license can be a bit complicated. You have to order licenses for different endpoints and devices, and calculating the costs can be confusing. Simplifying the ordering process for the SIM license would be helpful. For how long have I used the solution? We have been using the SD-WAN solution for almost a year now. It was implemented in 2021. For Fortinet FortiManager, it's been less than a year since we connected after the implementation of the SD-WAN. It's on-premise but as a virtual machine. We are using the latest version of Fortinet FortiManager because we updated it before and after the installation. What do I think about the stability of the solution? It is a stable solution. How are customer service and support? We ordered the product from a local company, which also provided the installation service for the firewall and SD one. We have not yet utilized the Fortinet technical support services. How was the initial setup? The initial setup is easy. We did it without any training. What about the implementation team? I deployed the solution myself. When I installed it, I made sure that I installed the latest version of FortiManager, and then I added the devices one by one. I provided the credentials for each device, and the information was automatically synchronized with the remote devices. So, I did it one by one. It is installed in the VM environment, so it is not difficult to maintain it. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? As we are an oil company, the price was manageable for us because we had a budget for it. But for small businesses, it could be costly. Which other solutions did I evaluate? We use SolarWinds for scenarios like network performance monitoring, configuration management, and IP address management. And for the FortiGate firewalls, we are using Fortinet FortiManager. We have different modules for SolarWinds, but for FortiGate firewalls, we use FortiManager. What other advice do I have? Overall, I will rate it a seven on a scale of one to ten, where one is the worst and ten is the best because the dashboard could use some improvement. Which deployment model are you using for this solution? On-premises Disclaimer: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Reasonably priced, easy to implement, and easily manages multiple devices What is our primary use case? We primarily use the solution for management tasks. We have Fortigate firewalls across the globe and need this product to manage everything. What is most valuable? It's able to manage multiple devices, which is quite useful. The analytics are quite useful. It is easy to set up the solution. The solution is stable. Technical support is good. It can scale. The pricing is reasonable. What needs improvement? Pricing-wise, it could always be less, even though it is less expensive than Palo Alto. For how long have I used the solution? I've been using the solution for three and a half years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? It is quite stable. I'd rate it nine out of ten. It is reliable. The performance is good. There are no bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? It is very scalable. I'd rate it nine out of ten in terms of scalability. They are very flexible. We have less than 20 people on the solution. How are customer service and support? Technical support is helpful. They are responsive. How would you rate customer service and support? Positive Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch? We are also familiar with Cisco, Palo Alto, and Juniper as well. We moved from Palo Alto to Fortinet based on the cost savings we would achieve. How was the initial setup? The solution has an easy setup. I'd rate it nine out of ten. It's not complex. We have a large setup. Getting everything working took us a couple of months. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? The solution is pretty reasonable in terms of price. I'd rate the affordability around seven or eight out of ten. What other advice do I have? We are customers and end users. I'd rate the solution nine out of ten. We are using the latest version of the solution. We have a large setup for managing multiple Fortigates, et cetera. You get what you pay for, and it gives us all of the features and functionality we need. If a company has basic requirements, it might be better off with a PfSense. I'd recommend the solution to others. For the number of features you get, the pricing is pretty great. Which deployment model are you using for this solution? Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Protection with multiple features in one box, but there are visibility issues and the price could be reduced What is our primary use case? We use this solution as our core Firewall. How has it helped my organization? As our core firewall, it provides us with good protection. What is most valuable? The functionality is good. It has good features and it works well for us. It has multiple features in one box, which helps to avoid needing a lot of equipment. This is something that makes them unique. What needs improvement? We have some visibility issues with the reporting. As the reporting is not properly available, we have to use many tools to get a meaningful outcome of the reports. There should be training available for the clients. Cisco, for example, provides training hours or credits at the time of purchase. People should get some kind of coaching on how to use this solution and various features rather than depending upon the support partners. The reports are available separately, but they should be a part of the standard product. For how long have I used the solution? With this company, I have been working with Fortinet FortiManager for a year and a half. What do I think about the stability of the solution? It has good stability. It's reliable as far as the production environment is concerned. It is working well. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? For us, it is fine as it is, because we don't have a large environment, and don't need such requirements. It does provide the scalability for larger organizations with more sites. They may need to upgrade or maybe attach more devices. How are customer service and technical support? We have good access to the portal, and the information can be pulled from there. The department is also helpful. Our experience with technical support has been good. Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch? Previously, we used another solution. We did a complete overhaul of our network architecture, which was the main reason we brought Fortinet FortiManager into our environment. How was the initial setup? With some help, the initial setup was fine. What about the implementation team? We had engaged the partner to implement this solution for us. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? Fortinet is a high-end product and the cost is high. They should consider reducing the price, especially for existing customers. If you want to add something or if you want to resubscribe, there should be some advantage given to the existing customers. In my opinion, in general, the prices are high. What other advice do I have? Currently, it is fulfilling our requirements. We don't have any immediate plans to change, and we don't have any expansion possibility as such, because there is no expansion in our environment. It is everyone's own choice what they want in their environment and what they want to prioritize. Because I have some reservations, I would rate Fortinet FortiManager a seven out of ten. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to use with good management capabilities and good reliability What is our primary use case? We primarily use the solution for management purposes. It makes management very convenient. We use it for managing Fortinet firewalls in our network. What is most valuable? The ease of use is great. It makes management very easy. The solution is stable. It likely is scalable. However, I have not attempted to expand the offering. What needs improvement? The presence of Fortinet in our region (Nigeria) needs to be stronger. They need to have a local footprint and local support. I cannot recall any missing features. The pricing could always be lower. For how long have I used the solution? I've been using the solution for three years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? The solution is stable. I'd rate the stability eight out of ten. We haven't had issues. There are no bugs or glitches. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? I'm not too sure how scalable the solution is. My understanding is that it would be. However, I haven't tested its capabilities in that way. I'd rate the scalability seven out of ten. How are customer service and support? We would like to have more local presence in the future. However, we can get support when we need it. How would you rate customer service and support? Neutral Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch? We previously used Check Point. However, it was hard to manage Check Point devices. We moved over to Fortinet. How was the initial setup? The initial setup was quite simple to set up. We bought professional services with the product, and that made it very easy. I do not recall the deployment taking too long. It's pretty fast. What about the implementation team? We had a Fortinet engineer assist with the setup. That service came with the professional services we bought. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? We'd like the pricing to be a bit lower. Which other solutions did I evaluate? We did not really look at other options. We did do a POC with Fortinet before purchasing it. What other advice do I have? I'm an end-user. We are using the latest version of the solution. I'd recommend the solution to other users. I would rate the product eight out of ten. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple initial setup but technical support can be hit or miss What is our primary use case? FortiManager is used to facilitate the administration of FortiGate equipment. There are many features to automate processes and make it easier to manage the devices. For example, we can push the same configuration to hundreds or thousands of devices, which helps us maintain a global version of the configuration and status of the devices. We also use scripts and templates to make it even easier. What is most valuable? The main function of FortiManager that makes it valuable to me is automation. I can automate the installation of configurations using different programming languages like Python or HPE, and it's a GUI solution, so it's pretty easy to use, even for basic users. It's also compatible with traditional programming languages, another feature I like about FortiManager. What needs improvement? There are a lot of bugs that need to be fixed, for example, the ZTP. Automating and making it easier to understand devices is necessary, especially in terms of zero-touch provisioning. This mechanism needs more work as there are some bugs and some functions that do not work very well. Today, there are tickets with Fortinet regarding a problem with cluster devices. It means two devices can be configured to work like one device. In general, it is easy to configure manually, but when you want to do it automatically, Forti Manager should help, but today it didn't work. FortiManager is a good tool, but there is a lack of really advanced documentation. While there are a lot of features available, for example, when working with Fortinet support, it can be challenging to find the right information. I work with Fortinet support every week as we have a partnership in my enterprise. However, for the public, it's not easy to access the kind of documentation we have access to. This level of partnership with Fortinet can be costly to attain for the general public. Some learning websites and communities are available, but the documentation provided is not as advanced as what we have access to. It's challenging to find confirmation and recommendations for advanced admin settings based on complex configurations. To have access to this kind of information, a partnership or conversation with Fortinet support is required, which can be expensive for most users. For how long have I used the solution? I have been using this solution for five years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? The device itself is very stable, but it's not the main number when it comes to using FortiManager to manage other devices. However, when it connects to other devices for the gate or to manage them, some functions don't work. There are some problems, but it's only around 3-5%, while 95% of the time, there are no problems interacting with other devices. It handles stability very well. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? FortiManager's ability to scale is good as it's a virtual machine. You can raise the capacity as you go, and there is no limit for hardware. The basic ones support a lot of devices and offer a good defense. However, you need to raise the level of licensing every time to support more devices. So, in terms of scalability, it's really good. How are customer service and support? The level of support for P2 and P1 is wonderful. However, for levels 3 and 4, they have to work on their computer capacity and numbers. I've worked with them many times, and sometimes I have a good engineer but not a good understanding of the program. By default, when we open a ticket, we only have access to P3 and P4. If we need P2 or P1, we have to ask for it, but not every single ticket requires P2 or P1 priority. I have had both good and bad experiences with technical support. How would you rate customer service and support? Neutral Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch? FortiManager is definitely better than Cisco, and it's easier to use and more stable. I remember finding FortiManager to be much more flexible and stable. Meraki works very well but is cloud-based and lacks some administrative tasks and functions. FortiManager is better than Meraki for managing devices. How was the initial setup? The initial setup is quite simple. Initially, I combined CentOS with other products, which took about five hours. However, It's not complicated at all. Moreover, I train some of our clients on how to use it, and they find it easy to understand. I can easily explain the technical aspects of the initial setup, like scripting, etc. Fortinet FortiManager can be deployed both cloud-based and on-premise. There are various platforms available for on-premise deployment, such as hardware devices or VMs, that can be started on Hyper-V, NSR, or NSF. Additionally, it can be deployed on cloud-based platforms like Azure, Google Cloud, or Amazon AWS. What other advice do I have? Overall, I would rate the solution a seven out of ten. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Useful group features, beneficial customization, and reliable What is our primary use case? I utilize Fortinet FortiManager to push commands with scripts. I made different scripts for different use cases. What is most valuable? I appreciate the ability to connect via SSH through Fortinet FortiManager to the FortiGates I manage. This feature allows me to gather information about the interfaces without having to physically connect to the device. This is a convenient aspect that I find valuable. I have started utilizing the group features, which enable me to manage and update the devices in a structured and organized manner. For example, when installing new firmware or updates of FortiOS, I can divide the devices into different groups and update each group individually. This is a feature I began using around a year ago and has proven to be very useful. Moreover, I have begun utilizing customized fields, which has added an extra level of convenience to my work. These fields have proven to be quite useful, and I would recommend them to others. What needs improvement? The information extraction through command lines was could improve to some extent. Although there were some command lines available, there were not enough options. For instance, I needed to obtain the management IP address of my two Fortigates, but the Fortinet FortiManager did not provide me with the IP address on the LAN interface. I attempted to find this information through the command line but was unsuccessful. I also searched for articles on the internet, but could not find a solution. This is an aspect that could be improved or potentially there is a method to access this information that I have yet to discover. For how long have I used the solution? I have been using Fortinet FortiManager for approximately three years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? Since I have been using the solution I have not experienced any problems with the stability. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? We did not run into any problems with the scalability. How are customer service and support? I reach out to the technical support team through a ticket. I was attempting to perform a rather complicated task, which involved pushing the FortiOS onto a FortiGate 30 E device without actually installing it. I had found information online that this was possible, but I encountered issues while trying to do so with two FortiGates. I was successful in pushing the FortiOS onto the device, but both devices stopped functioning after that. I then asked the technical support team if this was a supported process, to which they responded that while it is possible, it would depend on the model being used. Based on my understanding, it is possible but with some limitations, especially with older models of the Fortinet solutions. This was the nature of my interaction with the technical support team. Evaluating my experience with the support was decent but not textbook. During the evaluation process, I was asked for a substantial amount of information, some of which I felt was not pertinent. Nevertheless, I obliged and provided all the information requested. The main objective of the evaluation was to gather data from the devices and assess their performance. After the analysis was completed, the evaluators came back with their findings and advised that my current approach with the version or model being utilized within the organization was not recommended. What other advice do I have? I rate Fortinet FortiManager a nine out of ten. Disclaimer: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The solution is easy to use, and it integrates all devices on a single platform What is our primary use case? We use the solution to manage the firewall and the policies and objects associated with it. What is most valuable? The product is easy to use and manage. It integrates all the global devices into one platform. What needs improvement? FortiManager should improve the integration with third-party platforms. Though the solution is easy to manage, we need adequate training to use it. For how long have I used the solution? I have been using the solution for the past two years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? The solution is quite stable. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? The solution is scalable. Around 20 to 30 IT employees use the solution in the organization. What about the implementation team? It is a cloud-based solution. Around 20 people are needed for the deployment and maintenance of the solution. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? Our organization pays a monthly license fee for the solution. What other advice do I have? Only IT employees in the organization can use the platform. I would recommend the solution to others. I would rate the product a nine out of ten. Disclaimer: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lacking performance, and more integrated needed but beneficial device management What is our primary use case? The solution can be deployed on the cloud or on-premise and it is used for managing network solutions. What is most valuable? The most valuable features of Fortinet FortiManager are the overall management it provides and its ease of use. What needs improvement? The solution has to be enhanced to manage new switches. For how long have I used the solution? I have been using Fortinet FortiManager for approximately two years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? The solution is highly stable and has good performance. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? The solution is best suited for SMPs but not enterprises. If the company has many switches and access points and traffics with customization Fortinet FortiManager is not the correct solution. The scalability of the solution is good. For example, you can use virtual machines and upgrade the license to scale. How are customer service and support? I have not used vendor support. How was the initial setup? The initial setup of Fortinet FortiManager can be simple. However, if the company has third-party systems from different vendors it can be complicated. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? The price of Fortinet FortiManager is inexpensive. Which other solutions did I evaluate? Aruba is a better solution because it has more power. What other advice do I have? I rate Fortinet FortiManager a five out of ten. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good support, stable, and easy to install and manage What is our primary use case? I use this solution to manage my VDOMs and FortiGate policies. What is most valuable? It's very easy to install, and it's easy to discover and communicate with your device. We can manage VDOM, backup and restore configurations, and FortiGate. We have ten FortiGate firewalls. What needs improvement? It requires a lot of resources. This is the main challenge. For how long have I used the solution? I've been using this solution for more than ten years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? It's stable. I didn't have any issues with its stability or availability. It's good. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? It's scalable. I'd rate it a nine out of ten in terms of scalability. How are customer service and support? Fortinet's support is very good. Sometimes, Fortinet's support is better than Cisco's support. They are more talented. I'd rate their support a nine out of ten. How would you rate customer service and support? Positive Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch? We had Panorama from Palo Alto. We switched because most of our devices are from Fortinet. FortiManager is also easy to install and set up. How was the initial setup? It's very easy to install. This is the main reason why we are using it. It's easy to set up and manage. The only thing I am not happy with is the sizing of the RAM and hardware. The implementation took about two months because we have a big network. What about the implementation team? It was implemented in-house. We have a team of three engineers dedicated to installation and maintenance. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? If you compare Fortinet and Palo Alto, Fortinet is cheaper, but if you compare Cisco and Fortinet, sometimes Cisco is cheaper because Cisco gives us more discounts because of the size. Cisco isn't cheap, but sometimes, we get a big discount from them. Its licensing is monthly. I'd rate it a seven out of ten in terms of pricing. What other advice do I have? I'd recommend having a demo of FortiManager before deciding on it. I had a demo to understand how this device will match my profile and my requirements. The demo answered all my questions. Overall, I'd rate Fortinet FortiManager a nine out of ten. Which deployment model are you using for this solution? Rated 5 out of 5 by from Straightforward setup, and simple policy and management What is our primary use case? Fortinet FortiManager can provide visibility for other Fortinet solutions across the company's environments, such as multiple branch offices. You are able to manage all these devices efficiently. What is most valuable? The most valuable feature of Fortinet FortiManager is the ease of manageability and policy-pushing functionality. What needs improvement? Fortinet FortiManager could improve them by adding more portfolio components. In a future release, it would be beneficial if Fortinet FortiManager could improve by adding more devices able to be managed the solution, including switching, routing, and wireless, For how long have I used the solution? I have been using Fortinet FortiManager for approximately five years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? The stability is fine but could improve. I rate the stability of Fortinet FortiManager an eight out of ten. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? Fortinet FortiManager is a scalable solution. I have a considerable number of clients who currently use FortiManager - at present, I can recall more than five. Since effective policy management and centralized upgrades are critical for multi-location management, FortiManager is an essential tool for such purposes. FortiManager is installed in the majority of my clients' locations. How are customer service and support? The support of Fortinet FortiManager is good. How would you rate customer service and support? Positive How was the initial setup? The initial setup of Fortinet FortiManager is straightforward. We can push out the policies centrally. From a hardware or a component perspective, the implementation is simple. The initial implementation can be completed in just a few days. However, over the course of a week or a week and a half, we could potentially refine and simplify the process. Nevertheless, it's an ongoing endeavor, as each organization's needs dictate the policies that must be established and maintained. What about the implementation team? One person is enough for the deployment of the solution. However, it can depend on the environment. If there are a lot of modifications there might be a need for more people for the deployment. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? Fortinet FortiManager operates on a licensing system that is dependent on the number of devices being managed. Yearly subscription renewal is necessary to continue using the service. Although there is a cost associated with Fortinet FortiManager, its price is undoubtedly justified by the value it provides in terms of the purpose it serves. What other advice do I have? Fortinet FortiManager is highly recommended as a crucial component of any comprehensive solution offered to clients. This is especially true for clients operating in multi-location and multi-branch environments, where individually managing, upgrading, and patching each location can be a significant burden. In such scenarios, Fortinet FortiManager can greatly alleviate these challenges and streamlines the management process. I rate Fortinet FortiManager an eight out of ten. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Provides good and detailed log management What is our primary use case? Our use case is for management and back up configuration. I work in the IT security division. What is most valuable? This is a good product if you're looking for a central management solution. FortiManager provides good log management and more details than other solutions for logs. What needs improvement? I'd like to see the improvement of wizards when it comes to pushing policies and copying, VPNs, etc. Sometimes Fortinet changes its subscriptions. A few years ago Fortinet Firewall had capabilities for use in the cloud environment; they then changed the subscription and it was no longer part of the subscription, forcing the customer to buy an additional license. The technical support needs to improve. They moved their call center to India and although I have a special PIN code for the support team, they hang up after a minute or so and I need to redial. For how long have I used the solution? I've been using this solution for five years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? The solution is stable but it does require regular upgrades. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? We can scale but it requires the purchase of additional licenses. How was the initial setup? We deploy this solution for our clients. It's a pretty straightforward process for us. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? The price is reasonable, especially when compared to Cisco or Palo Alto. It also has a free version for smaller organizations. What other advice do I have? I rate this solution eight out of 10. Which deployment model are you using for this solution? Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good central management but bad stability What is our primary use case? It is used to manage several firewalls, primarily for setting policies and as a central management point for all the firewalls. What is most valuable? The central management feature is the most valuable to me. What needs improvement? We find that several vulnerabilities are showing up every week, so we have to check every time with the customer to make sure everything is okay and to apply patches when needed. The frequency is a little disarming. So, the product is not very stable. For how long have I used the solution? I have been working with Fortinet FortiManager for a year. We are currently using the latest release, version 7. What do I think about the stability of the solution? I would rate the stability a four out of ten. How are customer service and support? There is not an issue with the technical team. It's more about the product itself. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? The pricing model is affordable. Largely, customers opt for this solution because it has a low price. What other advice do I have? Overall, I would rate the product a five out of ten, mainly because of its stability and also because the technology is not as advanced as some of its competitors, such as Palo Alto and Check Point. Rated 5 out of 5 by from We can set unified policies from a central dashboard, reducing human error What is our primary use case? We use FortiManager to manage the roles and policies for all of our edge firewalls. How has it helped my organization? FortiManager enables us to set unified firewall policies from one centralized dashboard, reducing human error. If you do not have a central dashboard, there's a chance you might set a policy on one firewall and forget to do it for another. What needs improvement? The SD-WAN solution is difficult to manage on FortiManager because you need to share some configurations on the firewall side. Sometimes you lose all connectivity with the firewall, so it is challenging to apply the default configuration to the SD-WAN solution. For how long have I used the solution? I have used FortiManager for around two years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? I rate FortiManager nine out of 10 for stability. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? I rate FortiManager eight out of 10 for scalability. It's easy to scale, but you may run into some issues. We have around 4,000 users at my company. How are customer service and support? I rate Fortinet support six out of 10. The response time could be better. How would you rate customer service and support? Neutral How was the initial setup? Deploying FortiManager is easy, but you may need to reconfigure and restart the appliance during the setup if it loses the connection. This happened once, but it has been working fine since then. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? I rate FortiManager eight out of 10 for affordability. All of the features are included with the basic license. It isn't like other solutions where you need to pay for SD-WAN or additional bandwidth. What other advice do I have? I rate Fortinet FortiManager eight out of 10. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to set up with good integration capabilities but we've had troubles when moving devices What is our primary use case? We have over 300 Fortigate sites and we use this solution to manage everything under one interface. What is most valuable? The scripts are very useful. We can push the TCL and CLI scripts to Fortigate. The automation is great between Ansible and Fortimanager. We can integrate the solution with other solutions. There is one central template that we can use across sites. The setup is very simple. We can use the solution as a VM. What needs improvement? We've faced an issue when we need to move devices. Templates need to be recreated instead of having the policies, et cetera, cut and pasted over. Everything should just move over when we need to move devices instead of recreating everything from scratch. For the IPSEC tunnels, Fortimanager doesn't have all of the features that are available on Fortigate. For how long have I used the solution? I've been using the solution for three or four years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? The stability is very good. We haven't dealt with any issues so far. It's reliable. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? The scalability is okay. There are some restrictions. However, it is pretty good. I'd rate the solution eight out of ten. We have three accounts using the product. They range in size. How are customer service and support? We have an internal team that can handle tickets. We're limited in opening tickets directly with Fortinet. In the past, however, I have opened many tickets with Fortinet in the past and found them to be very helpful and responsive. They were good at solving issues. Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch? We have worked with Palo Alto and Cisco. The way of working with the firewalls is a bit different in Palo Alto's Panorama. With Panorama, we can add policies and prioritize them to override firewall policies (and vice versa). It's very flexible. How was the initial setup? The initial setup is very simple. We can create it using a VM. Our company has its own physical infrastructure, and we place the virtual infrastructure within that. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? I don't deal with the pricing of the solution. What other advice do I have? In general, I would rate the product seven out of ten. It offers good features, however, Palo Alto offers better options. Rated 5 out of 5 by from User-friendly, straightforward, and works incredibly well What is our primary use case? Fortinet FortiManager acts as a centralized platform for overseeing our entire Fortinet security infrastructure, which includes FortiGate firewalls, switches, and access points. From a single user interface, we can manage and configure these components to ensure maximum protection of our networks. The TNA concept is where we can have Zero Touch Provisioning. What is most valuable? FortiManager offers a full zero-touch provisioning feature that allows us to create a template of our devices and onboard them remotely without visiting the site. This is an excellent benefit of using FortiManager for our Firewall assets. Fortinet FortiManager is user-friendly. What needs improvement? The scalability has room for improvement. The solution is available in both a hardware and a virtual machine model. The VM model is scalable by simply adding additional licenses, but the hardware model has scalability limitations. For how long have I used the solution? I have been using the solution for seven years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? I give the stability a nine out of ten. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? I give the scalability an eight out of ten. We have over 30 customers using the solution. How are customer service and support? The technical support team is good. How would you rate customer service and support? Positive How was the initial setup? The initial setup is straightforward. Once we have set up our template, it should take only two to three days to deploy. After that, we can quickly and easily add firewalls without any further automation. What other advice do I have? I give the solution an eight out of ten. I would highly recommend FortiManager; in my experience, it is much simpler than any other central management solution I have seen. FortiManager is user-friendly, straightforward, and works incredibly well. Pushing policies and other tasks is made incredibly easy and uncomplicated. Rated 5 out of 5 by from It has a good dashboard and allows you to manage multiple devices from a single console What is our primary use case? I use Fortinet FortiManager for managing my FortiGate devices. What is most valuable? What I like best about Fortinet FortiManager is that you can use it with FortiGate. You can manage FortiGate devices through it. I also like that Fortinet FortiManager allows you to manage multiple FortiGate devices from a single console. The Fortinet FortiManager dashboard is good, which is another pro of the product. What needs improvement? Areas for improvement in Fortinet FortiManager are scalability and stability. For how long have I used the solution? I've been working with Fortinet FortiManager for three years. I'm still using the product. What do I think about the stability of the solution? Fortinet FortiManager could be more stable, so it's a seven out of ten for me. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? I'd give five out of ten for Fortinet FortiManager, scalability-wise. It's in the middle. How are customer service and support? I have experience contacting the technical support for Fortinet FortiManager. I'm giving the team an eight out of ten because I found it challenging to get support. Fortinet FortiManager technical support can be difficult to contact. How would you rate customer service and support? Positive How was the initial setup? Fortinet FortiManager has a simple setup. What about the implementation team? We implemented Fortinet FortiManager because it's just a process of downloading the product. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? Fortinet FortiManager is a low-priced product. Which other solutions did I evaluate? I evaluated Cisco and Palo Alto Networks, but I found Fortinet FortiManager better and easier to manage. What other advice do I have? I'm using Fortinet products, Fortinet FortiManager and FortiAnalyzer. My company has between three to four Fortinet FortiManager users. Fortinet FortiManager is a product I recommend to others. I'm rating the product as nine out of ten because it still has room for improvement stability-wise. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple to use with easy management and good reliability What is our primary use case? We have two branches and find that this solution makes it easy to implement the same configuration in different firewalls. You don't have to log onto any of the equipment with the VPN of the customer. It is the easiest way to manage a network. What is most valuable? This tool is simple to use. It makes management very easy. It helps with the underly IT. Things go more smoothly since everything is managed in one place. The solution is stable. It can scale well. The product does help save a lot of time thanks to its efficient management capabilities. What needs improvement? The price is a bit too high. Aside from the price, I do not have any complaints about the product. It would be ideal if they could bundle the product with others. Right now, you have all of these Forti products and you have to pay for a license for FortiGate and then have other licenses for the Analyzer and Cloud, for example. Instead of paying separately and having all of these licenses, it would be nice to centralize everything and maybe reduce the price for a bundle. For how long have I used the solution? I've used the solution for around seven months. What do I think about the stability of the solution? It has good stability. The product is reliable. I'd rate it nine out of ten in terms of reliability. There are no bugs or glitches and it doesn't crash or freeze. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? The scalability is great. I would rate it nine out of ten. It expands easily. Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch? We did not previously use any different products. How was the initial setup? The implementation is simple. It doesn't require an installation. All the products work on the same cloud. You just have to add it to the equation. We have seven engineers working on it to support it. They are available for any maintenance requirements. What was our ROI? We have seen a bit of ROI in that we save time providing the service to clients. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? The pricing is pretty high. What other advice do I have? I'm using the latest version of the solution. It's a good solution. I'd suggest others to go ahead and try it without any hesitation. I'd rate the product nine out of ten. The product is stable. It is scalable. The functionality is very high. We have found the pricing reasonable. What needs improvement? I'm still exploring the solution. I have not come across any missing features. The documentation could be better. Sometimes information seems lacking, however, maybe I'm not sure where to look for the information I need. For how long have I used the solution? I've been using the solution for about six months now. What do I think about the stability of the solution? The solution is stable and reliable. I'd rate it ten out of ten. It is extremely reliable with no bugs or glitches. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? It is a scalable solution. I'd rate it eight out of ten. Rated 5 out of 5 by from An automation-driven centralized management solution with an valuable rapid deployment feature What is our primary use case? We use Fortinet FortiManager to create different policies and much more. We used to create a lot of VPNs, and we used to perform the cleanup of firewalls because of security orders with FortiManagemer. We created standard policies for multiple devices. For example, we have more than four hundred or five hundred devices, and a standard policy needs to be created. We have to create the policy and deploy it, and we can also clean up the firewall rule. What is most valuable? I like the rapid deployment feature. I also like that it's easy to troubleshoot. FortiManager is amazing because we can have a centralized policy. All our devices are integrated, and we can also engage in troubleshooting. We can use it for different deployments. One fantastic feature is the ability to create a version and deploy it immediately. What needs improvement? It would be better if it were easier to run a routing protocol. In the next release, I would like them to enhance some features in the GUI rather than CLI or OSP. For example, whenever a customer generates an ISP directly on the firewall, it's complicated to configure the routing protocol. For how long have I used the solution? I have been using Fortinet FortiManager for about four years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? Fortinet FortiManager is a stable product. On a scale from one to ten, I would give stability a ten. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? Fortinet FortiManager is a scalable solution. On a scale from one to ten, I would give scalability a nine. How are customer service and support? Technical support was amazing. How would you rate customer service and support? Positive Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch? We used Palo Alto before. Most of our customers are running Cisco EAC and would like to block some websites. But next-generation features aren't available. So we have to use a FortiGate tool. Considering the costs and the fact that it's easy to deploy, it was the better solution. And most importantly, VPN is free. We don't need to buy a VPN license to configure it. How was the initial setup? The initial setup is straightforward. What about the implementation team? We implemented this solution. You need two people to implement this solution. A security architect and an engineer are enough. What other advice do I have? On a scale from one to ten, I would give Fortinet FortiManager a nine. Which deployment model are you using for this solution? Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's an essential tool for managing complex environments across multiple sites What is our primary use case? FortManager is a tool for centrally managing multiple FortiGate firewalls. What is most valuable? Without FortiManager, you cannot manage a complex environment across several sites with multiple firewalls. What needs improvement? FortiManager could improve by making it easier to port larger policy packages to the FortiGate firewalls. Sometimes, there's an issue when we install a big package of policies. If you have a couple thousand policies for FortiGate firewalls, it can take a few minutes to receive a response from the remote devices. It's only an issue when you're dealing with thousands of policies and installing them on a large number of devices. For how long have I used the solution? We have used FortiManager for about 14 years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? What do I think about the scalability of the solution? I rate FortiManager eight out of 10 for scalability. How are customer service and support? I rate Fortinet support nine out of 10. How would you rate customer service and support? Positive Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch? I have worked with Cisco and Aruba. We decided to switch to Fortinet a couple of years back because we determined that Fortinet offered the best solution. How was the initial setup? Deploying FortiManager is straightforward. The initial installation is simple and can be completed in a few minutes, but configuring the devices and sending the policy packages to the firewalls can take a few hours. We have around seven engineers maintaining this solution. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? I rate FortiManager six out of 10 for affordability. The pricing is decent. It isn't the most expensive solution. What other advice do I have? I rate FortiManager eight out of 10. I recommend it for those who use FortiGate firewalls. It's a management unit for Fortinet solutions, so if you don't use FortiGate, it makes no sense. Disclaimer: My company has a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer:

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Streamlines network security management with its centralized approach while offering features such as robust security policies and automated workflows What is our primary use case? Amid a surge in malware threats, including ransomware, heightened awareness about security vulnerabilities has prompted organizations to prioritize robust cybersecurity measures. Fortinet's SD-WAN solutions provide a comprehensive approach to secure and efficient wide-area networking for our customers. What is most valuable? The user interface, along with user-friendly planning features, makes it straightforward to configure desired settings. What needs improvement? Issues arise when customers experience unstable electricity or poor grounding conditions. In such cases, their CPE or other devices on-site may become unreliable, leading to occasional configuration discrepancies. To address this, site visits are necessary, and sometimes manual configuration adjustments are required. In extreme cases, device replacement may be necessary, particularly when inadequate electricity grounding poses a persistent challenge, creating specific conditions for intervention. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? Presently, our customers have a limited number of remote sites, numbering in the hundreds, with none exceeding a thousand or more. Fortunately, there haven't been any issues reported with this scale of deployment. How are customer service and support? Fortinet's support has proven to be reliable, particularly as we've been engaged with them since the project's initiation. This long-standing collaboration has facilitated effective communication, allowing us to seek advice or receive the correct configurations when encountering issues. Their assistance has been instrumental in problem-solving and troubleshooting. I would rate it eight out of ten. How would you rate customer service and support? Positive Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch? Previously, we employed Cisco Catalyst switches, specifically the Catalyst 1100 series. However, during that time, the stability of these switches was not satisfactory, and there were noticeable issues. We transitioned to FortiManager because our customers expressed a preference for enhanced security features in the form of superior Customer Premises Equipment. The local certification standards in Indonesia have played a crucial role in raising awareness among our customers regarding the need for robust security measures. How was the initial setup? The initial setup is straightforward. What about the implementation team? The installation is very simple, thanks to its use of zero-touch provisioning. With another engineer on hand and static alerts in place, the installation process is hassle-free. Completing the setup typically takes around fifteen minutes. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? While I find the pricing somewhat higher compared to other options, it remains acceptable for now. I anticipate a growing demand for SD-WAN security in the future, particularly with Fortinet gaining popularity. I hope that the prices will become more competitive in subsequent releases, as the current pricing is perceived as somewhat elevated. What other advice do I have? Overall, I would rate it nine out of ten. Which deployment model are you using for this solution? Public Cloud If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?
