Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great anti-spam and blocking capabilities with an initial easy setup What is our primary use case? I primarily just use the product as an email gateway for our email server. How has it helped my organization? Before I used the solution, I got a lot of spam emails. What is most valuable? The anti-spam and the IPS to help block items and attachments that come with the email are both quite helpful. It can block a lot of fake emails. The initial setup is easy. I have found the product to be stable. The solution can scale. What needs improvement? So far I don't need any improvements right now. I'm quite happy with the product as-is. At some point, FortiMail and Fortigate should merge together in one box. If they did that, it would be really helpful for the user. For how long have I used the solution? I've been using the solution for one year. What do I think about the stability of the solution? It is, overall, a stable solution. There are no bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze. It is reliable and the performance is good. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? Currently, I'm using it for around 600 to 700 email users. It still performs quite well for me. There is no delay to speak of. How are customer service and support? I've never used technical support and have never reached out to them in the past. Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch? I'm also familiar with Cisco. This product is easier to set up than Cisco. How was the initial setup? We found the initial setup process to be very simple. It's not difficult. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? The pricing is very reasonable. It's not overly expensive. We pay a yearly licensing fee. Which other solutions did I evaluate? I compared quite a few options with Cisco. In the end, this was the cost-effective option and the features are excellent. What other advice do I have? We're just customers and end-users. The version we are using is the newest one, as I already updated the OS and I just bought it last year. For those considering the solution, they better have a very clear idea about how they will place the FortiMail in their network. For example, either as the email server itself or as the email gateway. If you decided correctly in the first place, then you can configure it easily. FortiMail has a low cost and high support. Support is very helpful, however, so far, I don't need to use them at all. At the very least, I have someone that I can call and ask questions in Thai. This is not the case, for example, with Cisco. I'd rate the solution an eight out of ten. I'll rate it higher when it can be easier to configure or connect to the cloud to report on the attachments. Which deployment model are you using for this solution? On-premises Disclaimer: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Is stable both on-premises and on the cloud What is most valuable? It actually filters the compromised emails when on a network layer itself. What needs improvement? The UI could be better. What do I think about the stability of the solution? It's quite stable. Both the on-premises and cloud deployments are quite stable. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? It's scalable. How are customer service and support? The technical support is excellent. How was the initial setup? The initial setup is pretty straightforward. What other advice do I have? The Fortinet line of products concentrates more on the security of these solutions. That is where we see the competitive advantage over other service providers. I would definitely recommend Fortinet FortiMail and rate it at nine on a scale from one to ten. Disclaimer: My company has a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer:Partner

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to use with good pricing and security What is our primary use case? The product is the main gateway to protect us from spam and/or malicious mail activities. What is most valuable? It is a great product. The product is easy to use. Its performance is very good and it is stable. We've found the product offers fair, reasonable pricing. The security is quite good overall. What needs improvement? It could continue to improve the user experience. It is not easy to install. For how long have I used the solution? In terms of FortiMail, we have been using it for about five years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? We have found the solution to be very stable. There are no bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze. It is reliable. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? We have about 1,000 users on the solution currently. I'm not sure if we plan to increase usage. I don't have visibility on those types of decisions. How are customer service and support? Technical support is good. We depend on them a lot and contact them often. We contact them approximately once a month. How was the initial setup? The initial setup is not easy to handle on your own. I, for example, required the assistance of a vendor. The initial deployment took about 14 working days, about half a month or so. We have two technical people, engineers, that can manage the product. What about the implementation team? I needed help from the vendor. I did not implement the solution myself. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? The pricing is very good. It's not overly expensive. We pay a yearly licensing fee. What other advice do I have? We are using the latest version of the solution. I would rate the solution ten out of ten. We've had a good experience with the product. I'd recommend the solution to other users and organizations. Which deployment model are you using for this solution? On-premises Disclaimer: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Reasonable pricing and good spam filtering but does not offer robust gatekeeping What is our primary use case? The solution is primarily for mail security. We use it primarily for incoming and outgoing emails. We also use other products which are quite new for us. We just invested in GFI, and we use it also for the incoming email traffic to check with more antivirus monitoring. What is most valuable? The spam filtering is great. The key functionality is email filtering. The antivirus and most of the filtering functionality are quite useful. We use it daily. It offers reasonable pricing. The solution is stable. What needs improvement? It could be better. We know better solutions, like Clearswift. The Ui isn't that intuitive. When 100 emails are coming in to one recipient, FortiMail only blocks from the 50th of the emails. Until that point, it doesn't see there's a problem. They aren't doing very good gatekeeping. For how long have I used the solution? I've been using the solution for more than six years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? The performance is quite good. It's reliable and stable. I'd rate the solution seven out of ten. While there are some bugs occasionally, they are usually resolved within a week. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? It's mainly suited for mid-size companies, not for bigger companies like us. We are more than 1,000 people. In fact, we're over 2000 users, so that's why we investigated some other products, and Clearswift, for example. We likely won't increase usage. We're looking at GFI in a year or so. How are customer service and support? We have had to contact technical support. They have been helpful and responsive. How would you rate customer service and support? Positive Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch? I have previously worked with Clearswift and Minesweeper. I prefer Clearswift. It was handier and easier to use, and we could trust their work. We could trust their decisions on any email. How was the initial setup? We only need five admins to manage the solution. The solution was installed before I started at the company. That said, my understanding is the setup process is very easy. What about the implementation team? We had the assistance of a reseller during implementation. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? FortiMail is good for the Hungarian market since it's cheap and we can use it and it works well enough. The pricing is reasonable. There are no extra costs on top of the standard licensing. Which other solutions did I evaluate? We're looking into other products, such as Clearswift. What other advice do I have? I'm a customer and end-user. When you are not a financial institution, and you are under 500 users, you should try FortiMail. However, when you are either a financial institution, and you are attacked many times, or you are more than 500 employees, then it is a good idea to try a different product. I'd rate the product six out of ten. The UI could be better, as could the scalability. Which deployment model are you using for this solution? On-premises Disclaimer: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good GUI and configuring security policies is easy but the pricing needs improvement What is our primary use case? We use the solution as a security tool for anti-spam, phishing, et cetera. How has it helped my organization? The product has been beneficial in the sense that a lot of spam has been reduced. We've avoided a lot of phishing attacks. Threats have been reduced dramatically. What is most valuable? The GUI interface is great. The way we can configure security policies is very easy. We found the initial setup to be mostly straightforward. What needs improvement? The pricing is not ideal. It needs to be improved. They should add a lot of threat-intelligence feeds from different sources - not only from one source (FortiGuard). They should look at other threat-intelligence feed providers to include in the database so you have multiple databases checking for malicious attacks. Right now, there's only one, which is FortiGuard. The more threat intelligence feeds, the better since everybody has a different way of finding threats. For how long have I used the solution? I've been using the solution for five years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? The solution is stable. I'd rate it seven out of ten. There are no bugs or glitches and it doesn't crash or freeze. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? The scalability is okay. I'd rate it seven out of ten. We have 800 users on the solution right now. It's used by everybody. The appliance can take up to 2,000 users and therefore we have plenty of room. We do not plan to increase usage. How are customer service and support? Support is very bad. Their response time is very slow. Once the ticket is raised, it will take at least around eight to ten hours for an engineer to respond. They will say if it is a system malfunction issue and its criteria or its risk level is high then you have to give them a call. When you call them, it's very difficult to get anybody on the phone. How would you rate customer service and support? Neutral Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch? Previously, we were using Microsoft ATP; however, that was not sufficient enough. Basically, we added another layer by including FortiMail. We've also used Barracuda in the past. Barracuda had a lot of false positives. I don't know if they have improved since we used them. As far as I have seen, they've improved a lot in their email security solutions with total email protection. We are thinking of switching over to the cloud version of that, to save costs on the renewal and everything. How was the initial setup? The initial setup isn't too complex. I'd rate it seven out of ten. If people know how to set up email security, it is easier. You have to have the basic knowledge of how to set up email security and how to create policies. Any security person who's been in this field for a long time will be able to do it within an hour or two. You do require a minimum of at least two to three people to handle it. You need to have one from the incident-response team who will handle the incidents, analyze the incidents, and then, basically, take a response or action on the activity. Another person should be available to generate reports and, basically, review the reports and provide them to audits and the compliance team. You also need a person who knows the whole system by heart and who's experienced in it. What about the implementation team? I'm actually Fortinet certified, so I know the product. I was able to handle the deployment myself, in-house. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? We'd like to see better pricing. I'd rate the cost of the product six or seven out of ten in terms of affordability. Which other solutions did I evaluate? We did not evaluate other solutions. What other advice do I have? I'm a customer and end-user. We are using the latest version of the solution. I would not recommend this solution to others. I'd rate it five out of ten. Which deployment model are you using for this solution? On-premises Disclaimer: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions.
