Rated 5 out of 5 by from SUPER QUIET I just purchased this shredder as I had a mountain of personal papers to shred from my parents (also annual clean-out of kids and personal items). I wanted something that could operate for more than 5 minutes without a cool down period. This shredder fit the bill and is amazingly quiet. I would highly recommend this shredder to anyone who has a fair amount of shred on a regular basis.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Shredder This is a pretty reliable shredder, but we ended up with a jam that could not be undone. This shredder is very safe. If you have small children, I would recommend this product. Thus we are receiving a new shredder as ours was still covered by the warranty.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product I finally wore out my old shredder and bought a 99Ci. Very happy. It is quiet and much faster than my old shredder. I have had no problems with sheet capacity, at all. I also like the large bin. However, the shredded material tends to stack up quickly. So, I routinely slide out the bin and gently compress the fluffy pile of shredded mat'l. I looked at the video on this web site and I noticed that I did not receive a paper storage tray with my new shredder. Also, I have not been able to figure out which plastic bags that I should purchase for my shredder.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from JUNK! several issues right out of the box I've had several Fellowes shredders over the years but this one is just not functional. Isues are, first, it runs continuously. will not stop for any reason other than powering off, overheating or safety switch activation. Second, will shut down after only 2 to 3 minutes of running with the overheating light illuminated and will not turn back on for at least 20 minutes. Third, the safety switch is so tight that a single sheet of paper will not feed through. I need to use at least 5 sheets to make it stiff enough to feed in. Fourth, when I do use 5 sheets of paper the overfeed safety activates shutting the shredder off. The overfeed lights start off 1 level away from overfeed and shutdown. Very useful! I can get more accomplished with a good pair of scissors.

Donated it to charity. The 99Ci impressed me with it's well thought out features and design. It is fun to use very quiet, never jammed and I just destroyed about 10 years worth of documents. Also loved the CD DVD shredder. That surprised me how well and painless it was to use. The safety feature was a brilliant idea. Also like the fact that it shows you when your paper basket is full. Like it so much I'm running around looking for more things to shred. This product gets a thumbs up from me. Thank you Fellowes!

We are so glad be bought this one. We realize there are many others with the cost of half this price. You get what you buy and that is jamming and over heating. Not with this you don't feel shredding is a stress free and enjoy doing what needs to be done. I totally recommend this one to everyone! One of the best investments we have done! I love the style and it fit very well under my desk, when it's not getting a workout. And it will get a workout! I have about 70 reams of papers to shred this year. This is a great product to help me acheive a paperless office and lifestyle. Digitize and shred!

This Brand tears through junk mail, credit cards, and is much more secure than the strip style shredders. I just plowed through an entire box of junk mail and it was more satisfying than I ever could have imagined. Staples, paper clips, this beast never skipped a beat!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Reliable This is the third shredder that we have used. All the others in comparison were Mickey Mouse shredders that last but a year. One was replaced twice within 6 months by another manufacturer. After that, we decided to stop fooling around and go for Fellowes. While it may seem pricey to some, to us it was a no brainer. When you think of the cost of replacing 3 shredders in 3 years we could have saved the cost and then some and should have went right to Fellowes. My staff many times try to grab handfuls of paper and shred them, this machine handles that - it has never jammed and will reject handfuls of paper. The CD/DVD - Credit Card shredding capability is excellent - tiny little pieces never worry about theft of data. We also like the fact that it shuts down when anything but paper or CD/DVD, Credit Cards touch the slots. Half of our shredding are CD/DVD's the other half paper. The wastebasket handles large size shredding bags and doesn't have to emptied often. When it is full it is full. No need to press down the shredded material to fill the bag. We make shredding runs once a week and the unit will shut down to cool down after about 30 minutes. Good feature that prevents overheating. The shut down lasts approximately 15 - 20 minutes. I recommend this unit without reservation - even for light users. After all, you only get what you pay for; ...and Fellowes has proven to us to be reliable and functional. With what we spent on the other 3 shredders prior to this, we could have bought 2 more units. ...Oh, and did I mention, this unit is extremely quiet - another excellent quality.

As soon as I unboxed this beast I promptly ran 2 banker boxes stuffed full of outdated receipts and personal papers (approx. 18-20 lbs. of material) non-stop. This shredder never missed a beat...never shut down and never jammed. I'm extremely pleased with this purchase at this point...Remember that you get what you pay for and this was money well spent.

Now it has failed too. Shredded well when it worked, but unacceptable quality issue for a heavy duty rated office machine, and for a machine at this price.

I like that it is jam resistant, since that's what burned up motor on the last one. I love that I can put a bag in drawer, just lift when full and no mess.

I would have given it 5 stars if I didn't have to continually adjust and/or remove bin contents- which also increases the volume of shredded pieces ending up outside the bin.

This design is beneath the name & reputation of Fellowes. It's like buying a Ferrari car that comes with wooden wheels of a Stagecoach.

Now advanced to the smaller deskside version, rather than run along the hallways to shred. And absolute pleasure, and it officially handle staples, CD's and Credit Cards as well. If more of the Directors get envious we will buy this exact model for them.

Love how quiet this model is and the fact we can put in additional papers at the same time without it jamming. The safety fixture that has it turning off if small fingers get too close is an added bonus. Have not discovered a negative on this machine.

This is the perfect size and has the durability to handle what we have to shred. I recommend it for small to medium office size (up to 7 people, I would think).

I especially like that the shredded paper is impossible to read and this is precisely the security I needed. I recommend the 99Ci to anyone that wants to shred worry free and without any jam ups or problems. The shredded paper receptacle is easy to slide out for emptying. The unit's casters make it easy to move whenever necessary and the unit is steady.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from cool and quiet This shredder is excellent it is loaded with special features that are more then adequate for home use especially in situations were small children may be around if you load to much paper it will warn you and not operate,if your hands are too close to the shredder mouth it will not operate. the shredder shreds just about everything refer to owners manual........the customer service is second to none I had the LED fail on my other model and after speaking to customer service they sent me a new one.....cant go wrong for home use..............I would recommend this shredder

We went with Fellowers again because it's a brand we trust and are very satisfied with our purchase. The smaller size fits our needs (office of 8, with minimal day-to-day shredding) and this model is a lot more attractive then the previous. The jam resistance was a major drawing point and has not disappointed! I have yet to try the CD/DVD guide, but appreciate the capability. I am only disappointed that paper cannot fit landscape through the shredder and with the noise level. While not as loud as other shredders I've used, it certainly is not a "silent shred" as advertised... more of any angry grinding (yes, even when oiled).

The complaint about the old one is that it frequently jammed, and still, some people kept trying to stuff too many papers in at one time. This shredder as an indicator with a colored scale (green-yellow-orange-red) that warns you if you are putting too much paper in. Which is a great visual for the person who kept stuffing too much in! It was easy to unpack from its package, and has a great design. We are loving it! Hopefully it will last the test of time and be with us for a long time.

It's much more quiet than our old shredder, holds much more & shreds staples, paper clips & CDs as easily as paper. The non-jamming feature is also great. My only complaint is that the drawer tears holes in the bags & makes emptying a problem.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The correct size for a small office If you have a 12" tall pile of shredding each day, this shredder is for you. Anything less than this size is underpowered. Has a 3 prong plug, which I prefer. Indicator lights to stop you from accidentally feeding too much paper at one time. Is quiet. I'm not crazy about the clear plastic flip feed thing for CD-Roms but I guess they want you to feed them dead center and that helps. Its thick enough but I'm just afraid of breaking it. I'd rather it be a separate feed slot that leads to the same place.

I have had no paper jams, no problems and I love using it. Our office has a heavy duty very large shredder that I have to walk a mile to get to, I shred a large volume of paper on a daily basis. I needed something a little smaller that would sit right by my desk and I could just turn and shred. The Fellows 99Cl did the trick. Thank you for such an easy and useful product.

The edges were well protected, but the sides were not. UPS, tried their best to damage the unit with holes in the sides, that were not protected.

Really like the "jam-proof" feature which lets you know if you are feeding too many sheets thru the shredder. The cross-cut shredding is the reason I purchased this shredder, and the silent-technology as well. Those were the two most important features, aside from the price. The only drawback I would say is I wish it would've had a larger sheet shredding capacity, but for the price we paid this cannot be beat. Overall I am extremely happy with this purchase!

I'm surprised it made it past 6 months with as much abuse as we put it through. I literally shred thousands of sheets everyday. Keep her oiled up and she'll be your beast of burden.

It is quiet, the SafeSense feature gives me peace of mind with grandkids running around, and it just massacres paper, credit cards and cds. Best feature?? I don't even have to open the junk mail to run it through the shredder. Just feed the unopened stuff right in.. Great job Fellowes!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rugged machine This is our second machine. The first on lasted for about 6 years and started having minor problems with jamming. Overall it lasted for about 7 years before we needed to buy a new machine. Near the end of it's life cycle, we had to cut down to about 5 sheets of paper in order for it not to jam. We replaced it with the same machine because we feel that it served us very well and lasted a long time for how often we use it. Brand new it performs perfectly and is very jam resistant.

Although I remove all staples and paper clips, the machine has stopped shredding. Seven days after purchase I was forced to insert no more than four pages or the machine would jam. Next, the shredded paper would not drop into the paper bin causing it stop working, sensing the bin was full. The final straw was on the tenth day when shredding stopped—holes were punched into the paper inserted, not shredded.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Last Shredder You'll Need I've owned this shredder for a few years now - it replaced a series of shredders that sit atop a waste basket. I just finished shredding my 2017 files and was amazed (once again) at how flawlessly it shredded - no jams, no overheating, no anything other than powering through everything I fed it. I routinely put through enough paper to raise the sheet feed level to red, and, still, it takes it all. I shredded for about an hour without pause except to empty the container. Yes, it's a little big for a home office, but given how well it works, and works, and works, it's a small price to pay. I don't think I'll ever need another shredder and recommend it highly.

I have purchased and utilized other shredders, all not being a Fellows product; and, in comparison with the Fellows SB-99Ci,these shredders were significantly inferior in performance although each of them cost as much or more than Fellows SB-99 Ci.

This shredder works well for its intended audience; if you’re about to shred the Library of Congress it is the wrong machine. I’ve cut up to five sheets at once without issue. As for the noise, it is better than anticipated, not bad at all; keep in mind you are spinning reciprocating cutters, so expect some noise. If your needs are greater than shredding twenty minutes out of every hour, this unit is not for you. While it might shred 10 or 11 sheets at once, expecting that performance continuously may overtax this unit. You buy this unit for the security provided by the end product and this shredder gets it done. Go for it you won’t be sorry.

It has safety features that prevent injury. It shuts off if hands touch the paper opening. I like the large bin. It doesn't need to be emptied as often as my previous shredder. I am pleased with my purchase.

It makes the job that much quicker, Only downside is when you empty the drawer of shredded material, the leftovers from the shredding mechanism falls on the bottom of the unit which you have to brush out before replacing the drawer. Great overall and fast to use.

We never have issues. It's lightweight, but also incredibly durable--for the amount of people using it, we should have experienced more issue, but the intuitive and easy to read design helps us avoid jamming issues. It worked so well, that I ordered one for our executive leadership office.

Should have just boned up the money the first time and we would be money ahead now. This thing is very quite and very powerful. The safety feature can be a little sensitive when trying to put reciepts through but you get used to it.

The only reason I didn't give it a five star rating is because of the fact that the shredded pieces are so large that they don't compact. It shuts down when full and gets full fairly quickly for its size because of the size of shredded pieces of paper. If the pieces were smaller they would compact naturally and the bin wouldn't have to be emptied so often! Other than that, I have no negatives for this shredder. Very good product.

This shredder came highly recommended by a store clerk who worked at a competitor's store. I expect to get years of service out of this machine. We get a lot of junk mail and shredding it is the only way to prevent someone from gaining information from it when it is thrown away.

The best way to handle no jamming is to watch the light that lights up showing full or other. Just pull out the basket and push down the shredding and you can add more. I don't use the bags. Just easier to empty the basket

The safety features exceed needs but are reasonable to stop mis- use and injury. I have only two concerns. One, it is not clear where and how to shred a Cd, credit card, etc. And two, dust -the bin is not bag friendly even though bags are provided.The bin should be redesigned to hold a bag concealed and reshaped to facilitate empting in to a large bag and minimize dust while in operation.

However, upon unpacking the second box, I notice that there was no holder and screws supplied to install on the side of the unit (with the predrilled holes) to conveniently hold the manual, lubricating oil, etc. Has Fellowes discontinued to include this part with this shredder, or was it a mistake?

We love our shredder and all its features and love the fact that it does actually what it said it would. Great job, Fellowes, and I would recommend this product to anyone who has a person that over loads paper shredders or has little ones because it will save you in the long run.

When I came home from work, it was just sitting in my office, all upright and absolutely good-looking. It's a nice look for my home office too. I haven't shredded anything yet because I only have a couple items in the basket and I certainly don't want to get it dirty - it's my good-looking fellow for a machine. My husband is the handsome one!

So far, it has done a great job on several hundred sheets of paper of varying thickness. Happy so far with the speed, quietness, and size of the waste bin.

I'm also using Glad 13 gallon garbage bags instead of the Fellowes product and they work fine. I also use Staples lubricated shredder sheets each time I empty the bin. The shredder is well made and so far I am extremely satisfied with my purchase.

The only reason we had to purchase a new machine was because the roof leaked at the office and filled the shredder up with water. Very pleased with this product and the last one we had. Would not have bought a new one if not for the other one filling up with water. Excellent machine and awesome purchase for the price and durability of product. Highly recommend this product to anyone who need a high powered cross cut shredder!

This one works the best of any I've had. I deal with the medical community and destruction of records/files which may contain PHI or HIPPA data is important for my clients and my small consulting business. I would highly recommend this machine for anyone or small businesses that may need to destroy records/data when the expense of large destruction companies in not an option.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fellowes SB-99ci The first thing that struck me about my new shredder was the extremely quiet operation. I have owned several shredders but never have I owned one this quiet. The next thing I noticed was the way the machine "straigtens out" papers which are not vertically inserted, thereby eliminating jambs. Also, the machine can "power thru" batches that are a little too thick, eliminating the need to reverse the feed, separate the pages, and feed in a smaller batch. I like the feature which shuts the shredder down if the motor overheats, saving the machine from major overheating failure. All in all, a great machine for the money.

I accidentally put in my metal credit card in there, and it did get stuck but I was able to get that thing out without any damage to the shredder. I would highly recommend this 99CI Fellowes shredder. It is heavy duty and have server me well over the years.

It was time to replace the shredder so I reviewed the shredder market and ended up selecting a Fellowes model (99ci) comparable to the one I purchased many years ago. It must have benn broken during manufacturing or packaging. I complained about it and was told that I would have to send the whole shredder bank and it would be replaced with a new one. The previous Fellowes 99ci that i have used has been in service for 4 years. I have been shredding past files at a rate of about 1 or 2 bags with a 30 gallon volume each day for about 8 months each year.

It was easy to assemble and to start using. The only problem I have is getting the bin positioned correctly in the shredder. I shred and it opens back up. I'm beginning to get the hang of the angle it needs to be at to make it stay in.

Our old shredder gummed up after five years of great service. Didn't think to oil it or it would probably continue to operate. I did a lot of research and even brought a different one home, only to take it back to the store. Once we bought and used the Fellows, even my wife (the CFO) was pleased. Spent a little more and got back a lot more. We couldn't be more pleased. Who would of thought that a shredder could be exciting. Spend the extra $ and don't look back!

The first one was loyal, hard-working, and resisted (almost) all of my attempts to overload it. It finally gave up and the last jam could not be fixed. I bought the same model without hesitation and this time purchased the two-year maintenance contract, just in case. :)

We use the shredded paper as bedding for our chickens (20) in the backyard. We simply spread the soiled shredded paper on the grass and mulch it and then it disappears as it is biodegradable. The Fellows is the third shredder we have used and just keeps on shredding and almost never jams. The chickens love the shredded paper and are delivering 16-18 eggs daily. We donate 8-9 dozen eggs to the local food back each week.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Disappointed in 99Ci I have been very happy with a Fellowes 60MC but wanted more capacity, plus the 60MC overheated too often. I "upgraded" to the 99Ci, but I'm sorry I did. You have to PUSH (all caps because you have to push hard) the paper in vs. just sliding it. A container of oil was included, but there are no instructions as to how often it needs to be used. A minor issue was that a few plastic bags were included, but there was no mention of them in the instructions (i.e., are they optional, where to order more, etc.). I cannot recommend this shredder.

This is a replacement shredder, previous was an Ativa cx12w that served me well but finally gave out. If I had to make a comparison between the two, it would be David & Goliath. When they say size matters, it does when it comes to shredders. There is no comparison, this Jaws of a machine shreds like it says, is quiet, and has a huge holding container for the shredded paper. Only use this for home personal use but could easily be placed in an office environment. I take the shredded paper and then turn it into a renewable source, paper logs which we use in our fire pit during the winter months. Have never had to gather or purchase firewood. Great shredder that can handle big shredding, you won't be disappointed. Shane

When I decided to open my business that must honor HIPPA guidelines, I knew I had no time to mess with paper jams or only shredding 3-5 pages at one time. Enter SB-99Ci. I chose it because it claimed to be 100% Jam-proof...it was not just a claim...it is fact! It really does shred 17 pages. I have no problems with the shredder-it shreds flawlessly. I even find myself looking for things to shred...the thicker the pile the better! And it is so quiet! It is amazing! I can't comment on the warranty because I have no need for it, but it does come with some type of warranty. I also love that it is compact, has a side pocket to store paper "to be shred" and it really does shred credit cards, too. Love it, love it, love it!!!

We were able to shred lots of old documents while watching the State of the Union speeches. Even with the "quieter" retoric they promised, we were still able to hear everything while the shredder was running.

The power cord on this new shredder has been redesigned for better handling than my first 99Ci. This is the greatest shredder I’ve had. I really like the confidence that this machine brings to shredding by having the strength and capacity to do the job worry free.

Shredding junk mail with credit cards etc is so much faster because I won't have to spend so much time opening up the envelope and taking out things that can't be shredded. It is also the perfect size for our home. I love that it has wheels so we can tuck it out of the way when it's not in use and moved to where we need it when it's needed. I am so glad it has a pull-out bin. That makes it so much easier to empty then my old shredder where I had to lift the shredder up off the bin. That was always so awkward and messy. I am so happy that we bought it and would recommend it to every household that gets junkmail and doesn't want to worry about identify theft.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Suggested Design Change Before purchasing my Powershred 99Ci, I read numerous reviews on various web sites. Nearly all of them gave an excellent rating, which is unusual. I have observed that the preponderance of product reviewers only post reviews because they have had a bad experience. But, based on so many positive reviews, I decided to make the purchase. Overall, I think it was a good decision and I am mostly very pleased with the machine. It is extraordinarily quiet. My last shredder, a Fellowes SB-15C, was so noisy that I could not use it if anyone in the house was asleep as they could hear it. But this new machine is so quiet that it cannot be heard in the next room, even with the door open! I have been amused at the debate over whether a shredder can truly shred the maximum number of sheets as declared by the manufacturer (17 sheets for the 99Ci). Since so many papers come in different weights, I might be able to shred 25 very light weight (thin) sheets, while another person can only shred 10 sheets because their paper is much heavier (and therefore thicker). Perhaps manufacturers should declare a maximum and then specify what weight paper that maximum applies to. I have also found that when you shred large groups of sheets one after the other, the bin will appear fuller faster because the particles clump up as they hang from the blades and do not have much chance to fall into the bin (true of all shredders, regardless of brand, in my experience). Shredding fewer sheets at a time, even if you feed them continuously, allows time for the particles to fall into the bin without clumping. My main reason for writing this review is to suggest a couple of design changes, and hope that Fellowes sees it: The 99Ci has a basic problem when the bin is full and the "bin full" indicator light comes on. When that happens, the natural action is to pull the bin out and push the shredded material down into the bin, and perhaps to compress it to give room for more shredding. But, when you pull the bin out, as the rear of the bin comes forward, it dislodges whatever excess particles are clumped and hanging from the shredder blades and they fall behind the bin (see attached pictures). If you don't pull the bin out far enough, you don't see those particles, and when they build up too much, you cannot push the bin back in fully. To get around this, I tried pulling the bin out partially and reaching in to grab the material hanging from the shredder blades and push it down into the bin. I was sort of successful, but the inside of the upper front portion of the bin has many sharp edges, and I found I have to be very careful not to rub my arm on them or I will get scratches or cuts on my arm (see picture). My recommended design changes: 1) Make the edges of the inside of the front top of the bin rounded so you can reach in without getting scratched or cut. 2) Change the bin design so the top of the bin is substantially lower, say 6 inches lower than it is currently, and put the "bin full" detector at the top of the bin rather than on the underside of the shredding motor housing. This would result in either a smaller bin, or a taller machine to accommodate the current bin, but it might give more vertical space to give shredded particles a better chance to fall clear of the blades. "Bin full" would then indicate a truly full bin and not just that a bunch of particles are clumped and hanging from the blades, a "false indicator". AT THE SAME TIME, OR ALTERNATIVELY, change the bin design so that when you pull it out, the back edge of the bin "scrapes" the hanging particles into the bin. This might prevent the particles from falling behind the bin. OR, ALTERNATIVELY, change the mechanism so that when the bin is full, the machine "self-clears" the particles hanging from the blades, perhaps by running it in reverse for a few seconds. Perhaps, in this way, a "bin full" condition would only happen when the bin was truly full and not when the shredded particles have clumped and are hanging from the blades. Despite what sounds like a great deal of negativity on my part, I still love the machine! I will only have to deal with the bin full situation being annoying when shredding large amounts of paper, such as when I do my annual file drawer clean-out. I do not foresee this problem being an annoyance for normal day to day shredding. And, as a way to alleviate this problem, I will probably also shred fewer sheets at a time. My only other comment is it would be nice to have a more secure cut size at a lower price than is currently available.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from problem closing door I bought this machine in July 2013. It is heavy duty, jam proof, etc. The problem I have is the door is hard to close and the casters have broken twice. Fellowes was excellent in replacing the body the first time but now they have broken again. Initially I thought it was because I moved it on carpet but this time it is on solid material, not carpet. I believe the problem is that I cannot close the door without a strong push and that jars the machine and breaks the plastic material holding the casters in place. I am wondering if there are any heavy duty machines with a metal body holding the casters or is something wrong with my door.

The controls are easy to use and well located. Docs are shredded into tiny pieces, and the colored lights keep me from jamming my machine. I expect to have a long relationship with my new Fellowes.

I haven't had a chance to use it a lot yet but I think after researching all the shredders in this price range I think we got the best for the price. I have two cheaper models by different manufacturers waiting to go to the recycle center. I have a feeling this one will be around for a while. The bags fit nicely in the bin too.

Fully filled the shredder basket about twenty times in ten to 1 fifteen minute sessions with plenty of cooling time. I over loaded the shredder several times, but it automatically recovered with no problem. It really is Jam proof and works well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Still messy This is at least the third shredder I've bought of various brands. This is the most expensive and is so new I hardly know how to rate it on most items. In the short time I've had it, it certainly has shredded everything I've thrown at it. It's intelligent enough to tell you when you've given it too much -- which should go far in making it jam proof. It's touchy safety feature seems to make it a little slower than the Ativa it replaced to grab onto the load and grind it up. (How much do we really need to interfere with Darwin on some of this stuff?) But I have one major gripe with this shredder that is the same as with the others: You might as well haul out the vacuum cleaner when you empty the bin because you're going to have a mess. I can buy garbage bags that will fit over the bin, but why can't a simple hand grip be molded into the bottom of these bins? Don't the designers ever empty these things?

I chose not to put on the wheels since I do not need to move it from my chosen location. I shredded several pieces of paper and junk mail. Works good. I am VERY IMPRESSED how quiet it is compared to other shredders I have used or owned in the past. The true test will be when I have the chance to use it this weekend while cleaning out some files I don't need. I don't anticipate any problems since it seems to be a very well-made product.

If the shredder is struggling to shred the paper because too much was put in, the lights go up to top page amount and it stops. Also you can put a plastic bag in and the shreded paper falls right into the bag. Clean up is easy. Just remove the filled bag and insert a new one. Mess free! It's great. Can also shred credit cards and cds. Best shreder ever! Has great warranty compared to other brands.

It handles over 10 sheets of paper at a time with no problems whatsover. I haven't tried to max it out yet but about 10 at a time is great for my use. It is stylish and ruggedly built. The front opening container makes it easy to empty. I would prefer a slighly smaller cut size but the current size is OK. I am very pleased with this shredder and recommend it highly.

The 99Ci is by far the most powerful small office shredder I've owned. The SafeSense technology is a must have nowadays. The 99Ci is extremely quite, the only noise that is noticeable is the paper being shredded to bits. Once you become familiar with the 99Ci, you can turn of the Jam prevention feature. With a 2 year manufacture warranty, I am confident this thing will last at least 3-5 years of what I consider heavy use. Good job Fellowes on another bullet proof product.

Over my 35 year career in corporate America, I worked in many offices around the globe and learned from experience, that Fellowes makes the best paper shredders. So after I took early retirement and opened up my own consulting company, I purchased two Fellowes shredders for our office. These were fine and served us well over the past 5-6 years, but as my business grew, I decided I needed a tougher and more durable shredder. After much research, and reading so many positive reviews, I decided to purchase two Fellowes 99Ci Powershredders. Am I glad I did!!! These machines are incredible! Although they recommend only 17 pages at a time, I've easily shredded over 20 at a time, and it slices right through them like butter. The same goes for credit cards and DVD's! And the 99Ci is unbelievably quiet. In fact, it's the quietest shredder I've ever seen! Moreover, I love the fact it has a jam proof system. It can be such a pain when other machines jam and you have to stop and take 20 minutes to clean out the cutters. Finally, I love the safety features on the 99Ci, as I no longer have to worry about a woman catching her hair or a man catching his tie in the shredder while bending over the machine. Trust me these things can happen, but not with the 99Ci. So if you're looking for a high quality, reasonably priced shredder which is the toughest machine in the market, the Fellowes 99Ci is the one! Rated 5 out of 5 by from Careful removing filled bag The SB-99Ci does a good job of grinding up paper, regular staples and CDs which is why you buy the thing to start with. 17 pages pushes the limit but it does work well for personal use. The “jam proof” feature works. Problem is the disposal system needs improvement. As you grind away a large ball of shredded material accumulates under the cutting mechanism and the red light comes on and the machine stops. You open the drawer and clear the machine by pushing the cut up material to the bottom. You do this several times and the bag becomes filled. Then, when you start to pull out the bag full of shredded material it gets a large rip in the side of the bag, Turns out the little window they provide on the side of the machine to let you see when it is full protrudes into the basket and has a sharp edge which snags the bag into which you have pushed the ground up paper. Remedy is to change the bag more often and not to compact the waste too much.

We have tested it with 1 sheet of paper to triple fold credit apps. One time the junk mail was a bit thick , the shredder stop, reversed and finished shredding all by itself. We were in complete awe. Not only did I simply need a better shredder that would consistently shred, I needed one that did not require me to lift the heavy "lid-motor" to empty the small paper bin. The only problems I had setting the Powershred 99Ci was pulling off the box (because I could not lift out the 99C1) and then putting on the wheels. The directions only had drawings, so I did not know if I could pound the wheels in. Yes, you can --- A heavy shoe with a rubber sole did not crack wheels yet got them firmly into the holes. Love this machine - it does its job!

It was one belonging to the office supply company. Although under warranty we had to take it back for a replacement 2 or 3 times. Finally, they gave us the option of taking yet another one of their schredders or to apply the replacement price towards another schredder. I chose Fellows as I have a small one at home and it is a work horse. I have had it for years. As the person given the task of purchasing a new schredder.....it was a no brainer. It was going to be a Fellows. That purchase was made some 5 or 6 years ago and when it finally "died" (This is the Grief Recovery Center), once again I chose Fellows.

It shreds anything I put in it and the only time is jammed is when the bag was full. Once I packed the paper down, it started right up again without pressing the start button again. I love this baby.

I'm a small business and the shredder will be shared between two people. I shred approx 200 peices a week. I have not had it more then a day but the shredder is more quiet and can handle the paper i have passed through more efficent then the previous competitors brand. The speed and power of the shredder has been able to cut through my stacks of up to 18 sheets. I put a lot of paper through it and it has not decreased in power at all. i love the shield over the cutting area for safety reason. It does a wonderful job on plastic credit cards as well. The style of the unit is compact, sleek, black and fits well in my office area. The last thing i should mention is it is very quiet. I have been impressed by the units quiet nature.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Jam Proof Sensor Restrictive My only complaint is that many times the jam proof sensor will inhibit shredding when sheet thickness is less than 17 sheets, sometimes as low as 2 sheets or the thickness of a regular envelop with nothing in it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Shredder for the money I have ever seen I was in need of a new shredder. I went to client that had just purchased the Fellows 99Ci 100% Jam Proof Cross-Cut Shredder. I watched them as they shredded their records and I was sold on the product. I left their and went directly to Office Depot where I made the purchase. When I got it home I set it up and immediately started using it. It was awesome. It preformed perfectly. I could not be more pleased. I would strongly recommend this shredder to anyone who needs a shredder.

I had records and receipts all the way back from 2003 and had to get rid of all that paper. This purchase was definitely worth it and it never jammed and shredded right through all of the staples.

I hope this satisfaction continues, I highly recommend this shredder. I believe you could shred beside a baby sleeping and it wouldn't disturb it. 2 year warranty is an added plus.

Went to the 99Ci and am delighted with how well it works in comparison withthe old shredder. It definitely is jam resistant, eats up staples like candy, shreds old credit cards, CD's, etc. as well - and shreds the pieces much better than the old strip shredder. It does a lot more sheets at once than the old shredder - but not as many as it advertises. I like that it shows me if I am trying to shred too many pages at a time. Thank you for making such a nice product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sweet Shredder The Fellowes SB-99Ci was my 4th shredder purchased and to say the least, the old adage of you get what you pay for comes to mind from the less expensive shredders purchased in the past. From paper jams to blade damage, the other brands all had problems after a lot of use even with me doing the recommended maintenance. Since I work from a home office and I often have my oldest daughter (10 years old) helping me with things like shredding paperwork, I was looking for a shredder that incorporated SafeSense Technology while at the same time allowing for loads of papers to be shredded at the same time. The Fellowes SB-99Ci provides me with that and much more, although I'm not too sure about the 17 sheets per pass. From what I've seen it's more like 10-12 sheets, but then again, I do shred a lot of envelopes along with papers as well. Overall this is a very sweet shredder. With it being safe, first and foremost, quiet and dependable I can say that I'm very satisfied with my purchase thus far.

I was pleasantly surprised with how quiet the unit is when shredding and with its ability to shred a reasonable stack of papers smoothly. I do wish that there was a more secure way to attach the included bags in the bin as the paper pushes the bag edges down as it fills the bin even with the plastic 'pegs' on the front corners.

Only on one occasion did some paper get caught, but following the easy instructions to release the paper solved the problem immediately. I am very please with this purchase. The only difficulty was attempting to attach the rollers. They did not snap into place and I could not get them to stay in place, even after several attempts. However, the machine operates well without them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Powershred Recommendation I like the shredder. It is very quiet, the bin is nice and large and it works as promised -- shredding 17 sheets in one pass! When I first got the machine it did not work, so i called the Fellowes support staff. They were patient and very helpful -- knowing just what to do to recalibrate the machine since shipment. Like with all shredders, the paper gets behind and under the bin and onto the floor but that is to be expected. I have only had it for about 2 weeks so I cannot speak to the durability of longevity of the equipment, but so far, I am very pleased.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Cut Above This is my first larger sized Fellowes shredder and compared to the smaller Fellowes, this is definitely a shredder that is a cut above (pun intended). I'm impressed by how many sheets this shredder can handle without choking and how quite it is. I also like the fact that I can put plastic bags in the bin compartment which definitely helps with disposal of shredded paper. This is the most money I've ever spent on a shredder, but it's definitely worth every penny.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good but poor design I purchased the 99Ci shredder since I needed a bigger one to meet my needs. I was happy when it arrived. Overall it is a good shredder but it seriously lacks the quality necessary for the build. In particular, since taken out of the box (before the first use even) the drawer (where the clippings are stored) is very hard to close. In fact, at times it takes multiple tries in order to properly close it. This shredder is expensive when compared to the others for home office/household use so I was expecting a higher quality build. Unfortunately, that was not the case. While I am happy with the shredding capabilities, I am very disappointed with the design. I would likely NOT purchase this same shredder again.

The 99i which has casters gives mobility that was not offered by the DM8C. The bin is easy to use and remove and dump when not using bin waste bags. The Jam Proof System assists one to optimize production and will prolong the shredders life.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So much better than my old shredder! I've only had this shredder about a week but I think it is great so far. It shreds just about anything I try to put through it. If you attempt to insert too many pages it will let you know so you can take a few out. If they start through and get too tough for the shredder it will stop back the paper up a little then power it through. I've shredded bank statements in the envelope-- no problem--- old tax papers in the envelope--also no problem. This machine also does it's work quietly. I'll just have to wait and see if it lasts. I believe it will.

The jam-proof capabilities are very good, though once or twice I've had to toggle it back and forth when I've overloaded paper. At first I thought the basket was a little difficult to set in place after emptying, but if I push it in from the bottom, it clicks into place. It seems durable and well-designed overall, so I expect it will be a good investment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from More than enough I had a middle of the line-up shredder for ten years by another company. With me having more duties at home via teleworking, that shredder finally gave out. Although I have had my 99Ci for only nine days, I was impressed how quiet it was and how easily it took care of the backlog of sensitive trash that had accumulated after my other shredder went kaput. I did a trial run with all of its features, and it was at least as good as advertised. Although I can't say much on durability after just nine days, it is solid and effortless so I do have some confidence this will last a long time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Powershred 99Ci Heavy Duty Cross-Cut Shredder We've always had some type of small shredder and now have progressed to the stage of needing a heavy duty type that would take care of the majority of paper mess that has accumulated around the house. This Powershred 99 Ci seems to have it all. Thickness of paper that would slow down or stop most other shredders, doesn't seem to be a problem for the 99Ci. Long story short, we're very happy that we purchased this one for the long haul. Anything less just wouldn't cut it. The opinion of others we talked to also said that they felt Fellowes was one of the best names in the market.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Shredder I've Used to Date Got this shredder (the SB-99Ci) back in February 2009 and have been using it since. No jams yet, and it shreds through everything I've thrown at it. I mainly shred junk and sensitive mail and usually stock pile them and shred them in one sitting. The 17 sheet capacity on this thing is awesome! It's wide enough to accommodate most shreds without much action on your part other than feeding things to shred through. In the past, I've used and broken several cheaper, lesser capacity, lesser quality shredders (not Fellowes brand) so I can definitely tell the quality difference between them. The initial price may be (seem to be) a bit high but it's worth every dollar. Just as a note, I didn't check off 'Service Guarantee' or 'Warranty' for 'Pros' for this machine, as I have yet to need to use either. I did register my machine when I first got it though. Bottom line is, if you shred things on a regular basis and want to save yourself some time and hassle of replacing jammed up shredders, get one of these. You won't regret your investment in this machine.

The feed gets a bit annoying because you have to have all of your papers very organized and lined up to insert them. Post it notes are annoying. Buying bags for it, also pricey.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from SB-99Ci Shredder The unit was received within 2-days. I took it out of the box and set it up without the wheels which I've kept just in case I decide to install them. The handy bin to hold papers to be shredded, I'm using to hold plastic bags to line the shredder bin drawer and the lubricant for the shredder. I've found the unit to be quiet and very efficient. I especially like the safety features of the unit. The only drawback I've found so far is if you stick a small item into the shredder, the unit might turn on but possibly won't "grab" what you're shredding. Other than that, it's great. You do need to open the drawer periodically to spread the shred around so that it doesn't stack up in one place but I've had to do that with all my other shredders.

It is not silent, but it has a pleasant low growl that reveals some power in reserve 'under the hood'. Other one I tried did not allow for a bag "inside" of the waste bin and when you dumped the bin into a trash bag...it fell everywhere on the floor..had to vacuum to clean up mess! Who has time for this in an office! This DOES have bag liners and you just lift, tie bag and trash it ! I love the "light" that lets you know when "bin" is full ! Anyone who uses a paper shredder everyday in a office, appreciates this features. Just love my new shredder !

Rated 5 out of 5 by from null I was ready to test the claim to quietness and the number of pages it could shred at one time, and yes, it certainly does what it says. The sound while shredding almost 17 pages at once (some with staples in them), was like a quiet purr, and it shredded with ease in no time. I haven't tested the CDs or credit cards yet, but I have a good feeling, I'll not be disappointed.

One major problem which should be fixable with minor design changes has to do with shreds of paper getting into base of machine, under basket, then onto the floor whenever I change shredder bags. The mess from this then travels through the office and home on shoes. It should be possible to redesign the shredder basket so this no longer occurs. Also, while rated for 17 sheets, it gags sometimes on as few as eight.

It sits outside the office of our Marketing Manager and she was thrilled when we replaced it because every time we used our old shredder she would have to close the door because of the noise. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Shredder This was our second Fellowes shredder. The prior one provided consistently good service for 12yrs until it finally gave up. This 99ci replacement is a bit larger, handles more capacity per run & is a cross-cut, security level 4 machine. Our last one was a strip cut, level 2, so this is definitely a step up. The advanced technology allows the machine to operate much quieter than the prior machine, which is a huge plus in the office. It also comes with optional wheels that are very handy. The only drawback is the awkwardness of emptying the pull-out bin into the plastic bags when it is full. Probably because we were used to dealing with strip cuts, the cross cut material seems to make more of a mess when emptying the bin into the bags. However, we still are very pleased so far with this model. If we can get the same life span out of this machine as we did our last one, it will be awesome.

The other day I shredded 500 pages with this shredder continuously doing anywhere from 5 to 12 pages as a time. It didn't overheat, shut off or jam. I had to empty the basket during this project and fill it again. It is quiet. it rolls well on its casters. it is easy to empty the basket . I am recommending it. The safety feature shuts off the shredder if the finger touches it. It is not the most micro of particles that come out but they are small enough to evoke privacy. If you would need more privacy or shred stuff with tiny lettering then choose a micro shredder otherwise this one is good.

It is durable, jam resistant, quiet, low maintenance, and has a high sheet capacity making for faster shredding time. I have owned this shredder for eleven months, without a problem, and highly recommend it. Fellowes shredder quality speaks for itself. I demonstrated my shredder to a friend, who bought the SB-79Ci model.

And, I can roll it to my desk if I have a lot of shredding to do. But I think the fact that it is so quiet is one of its best features, especially in a small office.

The jam proof feature forces the user to feed paper in small quantities, but I anticipate that this means that the unit will last longer. This shredder is relatively quiet and seems very solid.

I decided I needed a high powered shredder to enable continuous shredding within the limits of the shredder. So far the POWERSHRED 99Ci has performed as advertised. The only issue noticed is that the shredding's collect on one side of the Pullout Bin and pile up which gives a false full indication resulting in having to extract the Pullout Bin and manually spread the shredding's by hand.

First two units came defective from Amazon. Not sure if that was shipping or what. Fellowes customer service was excellent in resolving the issues. It almost made me want to go with a different model, but the third works great. Nobody dreads the shred anymore!

After making purchases of average low cost shredders and burning them out I made the leap to a higher price more commercial type shredders which was a lower cost shredder by FELLOWS and yes brought it to it's death after a long extended use. Being a satisfactory unit and performing quite well searched for the same manufacture but step up to it's better model the Fellows 99CI. We have used it extensively since the purchase and this is a Fantastic Fellow performing even better and we are pleased beyond words. Yes it's more expensive but by the time you burn out the cheap units on the market and being only capable of Shredding for short periods with the cheap versions, your time is worth more by purchasing the 99CI you can utilize continuing shredding and get the job done! Like I said it's a Fantastic Fellow Shredder!

I got tired of the constant jamming of my previous model, yes it lasted a long time but this will outlive me. I appreciate the safety features of this model as well. Give this model a second look and if you do your homework as far as price you will be able to be the winner at a great price for a quality product. The shreds are larger than I thought they would be but provide needed security. Never have to open the junk mail anymore it eats it up in one swoop.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Purchased today I had a smaller Fellows shredder for many years, but it broke. This model is a big upgrade in features, size and cost. I used it today for a stack of a variety of paper types. Very quiet and shredded well. It's a bit more difficult to feed than my old one, but not bad. The waste bin is very large, but I found that you often have to tamp down the shredded paper, and some of it ends up on the floor or behind the basket. Better than the old one but still messy. My expectation is that this will be the last shredder I'll ever need.

My only complaint is when shredding 1 or 2 sheets; the paper won't feed into the shredder. You have to shred 4 or more for it to feed into the shredder.

Unfortunately it has suffered very loud vibrations when shredding, from the moment it was delivered. I regularly oil the cutter system, but the vibrations persist. This is a great shame, because it is otherwise an excellent machine. I shall try to get Fellowes to advise me how to stop the vibration somehow.

The SB-99Ci did everything I could ask of it. Even if I pushed and overloaded it a little, it hesitated, backed up a little and then powered through. In two days I had 12 large trash bags of shredded paper out at the curb for recycling. This is one impressive unit and still going strong.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Value In my garage there were 7 file boxes containing health insurance records many with my social security number for everyone to see, credit card statements, bank statements and payment records from my employer again with my social security number on them. These records dated back to 2003 and for 15 years I've been dreading disposing of them and unwilling to pay the outrageous price to have a contractor shred them. In one week's time working about 1 hour a day I was able to shred all these documents. I no longer keep paper documents only secure files on the cloud. My shredding requirements going forward will be minimal and the 99CI Jam Proof Shredder will handle the work load just fine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Poorly made piece of Garbage UNBELIEVEABLE - did not find out until after using for a while but the 99Ci is a piece of garbage. I own a small business and thought spending the money on a larger shredder would end up being economical as the "personal" shredders don't last very long. BIG MISTAKE jams all the time, the shredded paper clumps inside the basket and you constantly have to pull out the basket out and "rearrange" the shredded paper and there are sharp objects inside the basket that if you use liner when you go to remove it the bag gets slashed and all the contents go all over the floor.

The Powershred 99Ci has far exceeded my expectation. I like the electronic jam sensor with the light up indicator eliminating jams before they happen. This is extremely important in an office where there are many users, no more heading to the shredder only to find it jammed! I am also very pleased with the safesense technology, I can now hand over the shredding pile to my work study students without the worry that they will get hurt. Thank you!

It is extremely durable and lasts a long time. The wheels make it easy to move around and it shreds the papers so there is no chance of confidential information being exposed.

These "commercial" shredders were purchased from a locally owned office supply business, who we had and continue to do business with. Within months, both developed problems. One with a motor and the other with the cutters. The business would not stand behind these shredders and as a result, I refused to purchase anymore shredders from them, for the office. The local business also knew I was unhappy with their lack of service and support on the shredders. When I researched the SB-99Ci and the excellent warranty, I gave in and purchased one (1) unit, as a trial. This unit is in my office and I along with my office manager are very pleased with its performance and the warranty that came with it. It is my intention to purchase another one in the near future for the office.

We are going through old files which have accumulated over thirty years and clearing many of them out. My wife is a visiting nurse and needs to constantly shred personal and confidential information about the patients she sees. We have found the 99Ci to be a reliable, safe and fast shredder and are impressed how quiet it is when operating. I would not hesitate to recommend this unit to other people.

It's very quiet and not noisy like my last one from Fellowes. It's built well and made to take more then most others out there. The safety features are outstanding, and the sheet capacity is also a feature that got me to try this. I also like that it can shred cd's, paper clips, and staples. All in all it is a very capable shredder, and one that i would recommend.

It is a rather large unit for a small office but the shredder container can hold quite a bit material. The only draw back is that when the plastic bags run out, will need to find similar type of bags for disposal. Well worth the cost!

The shredder is used every day for several hours. With just minimal maintence this shredder has kept going and going. We have shred thousands of pages and have yet to have a jam or malfunction. In a non-profit office, shared by 13 employees. It's great, with a 9 gallon capacity bin. This Shredder has saved us money by doing such a good job we have been able to cancel our shredding vendor. I would definitely recommend it.

I'm putting in some envelopes to be shredded and it's powering through them. Every once in a while the envelope is a little to big to handle and I have to coax the machine to take it and that is the only downfall. I guess i'll have to see if it still works the same way a year from now and if it does then i'll be a happy customer :) Very Quiet and love the safety features.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Machine I had another brand of H.D. machine and it was a total pain to operate. It would jamb almost continually and I would have to take it apart to clean it out. The last time i used it and shut it down it refused to power up and would run in reverse only before it totally gave up running in that direction. I made as on-line search and found out the company also gave up. Thus I started looking for a company that was still around and decided that Fellows was the way to go. I have not used the machine a lot thus far but it seems real nice to have one that doesn't jamb up! It runs quietly and cuts the paper up nice and small. I am very satisfied thus far.

Motor not as heavy duty as stated, claims 17 sheet capacity, the most I have been able to run through is 10 sheets of 20 lb. paper and machine turns off. If this doesn't bother a person no big deal, I run normally 5 sheets at a time and its fine. Safety feature is very nice for people with small kids works flawlessly. The 9 gallon bin shuts off after 6 gal but that's 2-4 weeks shredding at home. All in all a very nice machine a little over priced but nice.

I've been able to get all of my shredding done without having to stop and wait!! No jams ! This shredder is very quiet compared to other shredders, I would recommend to others.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Shredder Over the last ten years, I tried quite few shredders most of which would die in two or three years. The last one was a staple 20 sheet shredder. It lasted one year and suddenly died. I am so far satisfied with Fellowes and I hope it will last for a long time. The most important thing about it is that it makes no noise and is very clean and safe.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pretty good not great My spouse and I are cleaning up years of paperwork that our parents accumulated. The shredder was delivered to our front door Sunday after lunch. We had 5 thirty gallon bags of shredded paper by the end of the day. Jammed it a few times and tripped the overheated safety a couple times but quite a load in one day. Downers - the paper bin fit wasn’t perfect, the paper bin was messy to dump, and you’ll need to vacuum up a small amount of small paper particles that don’t stay in or make it into the bin. Also the bin is a little on the cheap side - several of the plastic rivets that fasten the corrugated plastic bin to its frame came apart and had to be pressed back together- hope they stay together. Otherwise they might get lost in a bin dump. I didn’t use the bin bags - too small for the large quantity we shredded.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Papyrus Muncher! We stay paperless at the house, but (with 3 kids and countless accounts) have a lot of stuff to archive on the NAS and shred. I was tired of wasting time disassembling and cleaing out lesser shredders; and the others fell short when it came time to shred a credit card or CD (I used to keep a box in the car to take to the office shredder). The 99Ci is exactly what we needed. It chews tirelessly at document after document. It can eat that super-thick salesmail from American Express, AAA and anyone else who thinks a card in the envelope will force you to open it. It has a page limit, but when it comes to magazines, you can usually just through it in there or, worst case, tear it in half and throw it in. All the while, when the two year old walks up, I don't even get excited as the sense technology works and keeps fingers safely clear. I'm almost afraid he'll get used to not being corrected and someday find himslef near a lesser shredder. Staples, CD, DVD, BDR not a problem. We use the shredded material for shipping and save cost on those static friendly foam peanuts. Perfect match for a scansnap kind of house or business! Well worth the cost.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Strong, relatively quiet operation I purchased this shredder to replace a Royal 12x crosscut shredder that died on me. The SB-99Ci is a lot quieter and stronger than my former shredder. Although this shredder is rated for 17 sheets per pass; the best I can get is 12-13. But that is ample for my home office use. My Royal could only do about 7 sheets per pass, with a lot more noise. The floor casters that come with this shredder make moving the shredder easy, with very little effort.

I only use it at my home, and it's probably a little over kill, but I've gone thru 2 smaller shredders and I'm tired of them breaking after about a year. This unit will save me money in the long run, and it really doesn't take up much space. I would definately recommend this shredder.

We wanted one that wasn't as noisy as the old one and that would shred more sheets at one time. This shredder is very quite and it doesn't get hot very fast, so you can shred longer. I do, however, wish that the wheels had locks so that it didn't move around as easy and that the bin had a tighter closure, it seems to vibrate open sometimes. It also seems to not level out the shredded paper you still have to push it down or empty it before it is completely full.

I love the fact that you don't need ear plugs just to use it. So far so good will write another review after a couple more months so it has some more use on it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from For Home Use, It's Great I've had this shredder about 6 months now and am very pleased. I did give it 5 stars on everything but would have used a 4.5 rating on some items had it been an option. In other words, the unit is not perfect but it's better than just "good" (4 stars). I've never had a real jam, but it's pretty easy to get the unit to "pause" and go into reverse to "clear a jam" that's not really there. You can do that by either trying to feed in some wrinkled paper or by trying to feed some more sheets into to the unit a little too quickly while it's trying to finish up the previous sheets. It always recovers from these "false jams" and proceeds to shred the items that have been entered, with the "thickness indicator lights" all blinking. The only other problem, which has been a problem with every shredder I've ever owned, is the habit of the shredded material "piling up" on one side of the bin directly under the cutters. This requires the operator to stop shredding frequently to redistribute the shreds evenly across the bin so that shredding does not stop prematurely before the bin is full. I do like the idea of the plastic bag to catch the shredded material. When the bag is full, I empty it into a larger container. Then when that large container is full, I take to a local recycling location for disposal. When I bought the 99Ci, I ordered extra "performance oil" and have been applying that as directed in the owner's manual after each full bin of shredding. I've also run a few credit cards and CDs through the unit. I"m really happy with this shredder. It gets used almost daily and, on some occasions such as when cleaning out old credit card and other miscellaneous statements out of the file cabinet, it gets used a LOT! So far, I've had no problems worth reducing my 5-star rating.

WOW, I am amazed at the difference in the stress level. The shredder is quiet, and with it's own pleasant sound. Hasn't jammed yet and shreds so easily. We love it!!!

After the easy setup, I ended up burning through a decent stack of papers in no time. Even the person in customer service who usually does the shredding was impressed. It is extremely quiet. So quiet in fact that anyone can use it while other people are on the phone. So for a small office consisting of 6 people, it's a perfect fit. I would highly recommend this product to anyone looking for a durable, good looking, quiet, and inexpensive shredder.

We had to call in how to install these. We were told to hit it in with either a shoe or hammer. I went online to download the manual (hoping it was a more in detail type), but there were several ones download for this product and I had to call "which one to download". The staff was very helpful, by the way. When I previewed the manual-I was in shock! It was the same brochure that came with the shredder.

I love how it tells you when you have to much paper inserted. I have not had a jam once. Thanks for the superior product.

I love that it is not as loud as my old shredder. For this heavy duty shredder I feel the price is good. If you are thinking about buying it don't hesitate.

Our Fellowes SB-99Ci shredder is so easy to operate and slides right under my desk, but the most important thing to me is the cross-cut feature that allows our office to shred non-essential documents that might have codes, numbers, or other confidential information that actually makes you feel good about getting rid of unneeded paperwork. I researched a number of other options but settled on the SB-99Ci based on it's features and price point. I am so pleased to report that this shredder is fabulous. I wanted to supplement my existing shredder with one that could cross-cut shred and shred credit cards, CDs, etc. My existing cross-cut shredder cannot shred credit cards, CDs or more than 2 sheets of paper at a time. It has a spiral steel cutter that is not very efficient, but does micro-cut shredding of my critically important papers (shreds to 1/8" squares). The shredder manufacturer is not known. The Fellowes Powershred 99Ci shredder is clearly superior in every way for my needs as an individual. It is quiet, fast cross-cut shreds of multiple papers at a time, easy to use, has safety features and does shred CDs as well! The shredded paper is not a micro-cut, but is fully capable of providing security protection for important papers. The Fellowes 99Ci Powershred unit I believe is more than capable to meet the needs of most families for protection, security and privacy.

And the bin underneath is big enough and easy to pull out. I highly recommended for this great product whatever personal use or office use. It also has safety features when touch the surface of it. It's definitely worth it. We used to have other brands with cheap parts of it, and really waste our money until we found Fellowes brand 99ci that really works and even way much better we expect.

Quite, great quality...a little larger than i had anticipated but it still fits in my space where my other one was. i would definitely save your pennies for this one! great product! i haven't shredded credit cards yet but i have no doubts that it will do a tremendous job on those too. Start saving!!

Because I have owned at least 4 shredders in the past, which never lasted more than a year, it was time to bite the bullet and find a good one. I am not disappointed! This shredder surpasses all my expectations and was well worth the money. It was a little taller than I expected but it fits perfectly next to my desk. It is super quiet, the design is one you want to show off and the bells and whistles are outstanding. I know if I'm putting in too many pages by the indicator light and it shows when the basket is getting full. It will even shred small paper clips and staples! I just love this shredder and would recommend it to anyone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Shredder We bought this shredder for a small office to replace our old one that started acting up. This one has a much larger capacity and works well. It is much quieter than our older fellows shredder but it is not silent as advertised. It is nice that it has wheels so we can easily move it around. It looks like it will be very easy to empty but it does drop paper behind the trash bin sometimes so that will need to be cleaned out from time to time. It is not as messy as our old one but like other shredders it is not 100% mess free.

It is so quiet that we cannot even hear it operate. The older machine required the door to be closed on the room it occupied, and other people near by could not talk on the telephone during operations. We are very impressed and hope that we will get many years of service without jams.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great value in a high performance quality shredder I bought my Powershred 99Ci as a refurbished unit from Fellowes and except for the non-commercial packaging I really can't tell what might have been refurbished. Looked in brand new condition to me and performed like new as well. Having purchased this shredder to replace a 10 year old non-Fellowes model I would encourage everyone purchasing ANY shredder to be aware that cellophane window envelopes, tape, Post-It TM Notes and anything that has an adhesive (including regular envelopes) can gum up your shredder and impact its life (RIP old shredder). If I follow my own rules, I would expect this Fellowes shredder to last forever.

The pullout bin in my older 99Ci is made of hard plastic. This new one is constructed of cardboard with a plastic front. Very disappointing. I just wonder what else has been cheapened in this shredder. I purchased it on Amazon. Is a 99Ci purchased from Office Depot or Staples of higher quality and made better with no "cardboard" pullout bin?

Although, I do not like having to clamp the bag to the bin. Now, I don't use bags. I compress the shreds in the bin and dump the bin into a larger contractor bag along with mags and other waste. Fellowes is my go to agent for shredders from now on!

Have several elderly relatives who kept tons of sensitive information - literally boxes and boxes of files that could not be disposed of in the trash. Facing HOURS of work. Cost of having them shredded by Office Depot or a mobile shredding service was more than the cost of this shredder and now I have one for even my heaviest personal needs. I am VERY impressed that this shredder will cut through junk mail without having to open every single piece of the wretched stuff. I use one at work and knew this was what I needed. Looking forward to many happy years with this baby.

It is a great size for a small business with limited space and it is very quiet. I really like the ability to shred CD's and credit cards. During the last eleven years, as ID Theft and business considerations have become more important, the SB-99Ci performance has exceeded the abilities and performance of all my previously owned shredders. The previous machines included both Fellows and two machines from other manufacturers. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent product I needed to purchase a new shredder for home office use, but after looking around all the usual shops such as Currys etc, found nothing that was substantial enough or robust enough for our home office requirements. After wasting time in the stores I'm pleased to say that I quickly found what I needed online with the Fellowes Powershred 99ci Cross-Cut Shredder. This particular shredder is ideal for a small office or home office use. It is strong and keeps going for a decent amount of time (up to 30 minutes if necessary, before demanding a tea break(!) although I haven't personally had to use it for that long in one session myself yet). I thoroughly recommend it especially if you need to frequently shred confidential information etc. The base container holds a decent amount of shredded paper before having to empty it, but note that it does help to pull out the bin and 'Squash it down' occasionally to keep the shredder flowing freely without jamming due to shredded material accumulating under the shredding mechanism.

I did have a couple of jams which I contribute to possibly placing too much material in the shredder. Probably suggest less than 18 pages, although it will handle this amount. The container bin is poorly made. It works but could be so much better made. Looks like the corrugated material from post office boxes, therefore the 3 stars in this area. Shreds cd's, small paper clips and staples as advertised. I reviewed several shredders at all price points before choosing the 99ci. I have many, many pounds of documents to dispose of going back more than 10 years. I have full confidence that the 99ci will do what I need and more. Were it not for the quality of the bin and some shredded material falling behind the bin when shredding or trying to pack it down when full, I would have given this machine 5 stars. Great value! I am not disappointed, and I definitely recommend it.

I have a small home business and really did not need such a large shredder, but I got tired of emptying out bags and wanted a shredder with larger capacity. This shredder fit the bill for me. It is as they say 100% jam proof (but then again, why would you want to even try to jam it). And it performs all of its duties as advertised. I fits nicely in my home office. Since it sits sideways, it take up much less room than a "front loading" shredder. But what really impressed me was how quiet is is compared to shredders I've had in the past. Let's face it, at some point all shredders implode. This one seems to be well built and should last for quite a while if not overworked. I think the biggest problem with shredders is that many people pick a shredder that is undersized for the jobs it needs to handle and burns out quicker. I went for the bigger one with the hopes I will have it a while. I recommend it.

The machine is quite and it's easy to move around thanks to the casters. The machine did over heat once after 20 minutes of constant shredding but not a problem, it cooled down in 40 minutes. I shredded a 30 gallon bin of old paper that included staples but the shredder didn't even blink. I do oil it after the bin is full like the manufacture recommends and I think this will be the last shredder that I will have to buy.

It is very powerful, and won't jam. I do on some occastions have a lot to shred, and this will do the job. I've seen other for less money, and do less pages, but the fellowes name has been around for a long time, and is very dependable. I recommend this to everyone. I use it at home only for my personnal information to shred to protect from I. D. Theft.

This is the 99ci, it is suppose to be an up grade. I didn't like that you have to place the paper down a bit more, but I understand safety in this day and age. It has a nice feel to it and it is fairly heavy. I just shredded a box full of junk mail and it was much faster and quieter than the old machine was. The other thing I like is the customer service. Very helpful, polite, patient and knowledgeable.

Plus the opening is just plastic and makes it hard to get the bin to lick in place. Have to take care to make sure it is properly secured otherwise the bin open up and the shredder stops. Bad design

I had a good 10 years with the last shredder of the same model. I told myself to always buy Fellowes as they were always there to help whenever I had a problem. Three years ago when I thought it was time to get a new one, a wonderful gentleman walked me through some easy steps and I was surprised to see the shredder was working again and lasted another 3 years! The customer service is very helpful, even long after the 2 year warranty is finished. I just unpacked my replacement today and needed to ask a couple of questions about attaching the wheels and registering the new model. There is never a long wait on the phone and the people who answer are easy to understand and very helpful. This new shredder is much more quiet than the older model of the same number. The only thing different is the bin is made of a lighter weight material. This is not a negative thing as it is lighter to pick up and empty. I am keeping my old bin from the 10 year old model as a spare as it fits this newer one. The new shredder does have the small holes on the side to attach the small holder on the side, but the holder is not included with this newer one. I use this to keep extra plastic bags and my oil bottle handy. I just attached the one from my older model and all is well! As I use this every day it is important to me to have a product that is good quality and has great backup help when I need it (which is only about every 7 -10 years of use) No complaints! It never worked right the shredder never fed the paper in right and always jammed it over heated constantly and for shredding charge cards or CD's that was a well the 1 charge card I put in well it took me a 11/2 hour to get that jam out. I sent that shredder back in 2 days of purchase.This shredder works perfect I have had this for 3 weeks and I have absolutely no problems.

Height is good so you don't have to bend when using it. Only drawback I have noted is that you really need to buy/use the plastic bags to catch the cut up paper as they are so small and fall everywhere when you empty it when in full. This creates an extra expense. Overall happy with the purchase.

We shred EVERYTHING here in our office. Since we are a dental office most of our paper has personal information so any and everything is shredded. We also recycle everything and therefore shred even post it notes to make more room int he recycling bin. This shredder is fast effecient and I dont even have to worry about it taking off a finger at the same time! Hope this is helpful for anyone considering buying this-I highly recomend it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not As Good as Old Model SB-99Ci I purchased this PowerShred 99Ci to replace a SB-99Ci which I have been using for the last 8 1/2 years (since January 1999). The older machine was superb. This updated version of the 99Ci is not nearly as capable as the old version. The shredder motor is not nearly as powerful as the old model. Paper is much more difficult to feed because the feed slot is much narrower than the older model. Likewise, it will not accept the advertised 18 sheets of paper. And the pullout bin keeps popping out when shredding. If I cannot resolve these problems within the next week or two, I will return this shredder to Fellowes.

A few times I had to manually clean the cutting mechanisms to get them to operate correctly, even thou we tried they both eventually failed catastrophically. thou I have only owned and used our new Fellowes 99CI shredder for a few days , its already apparent that is a higher quality design, constructed well and will operate better and longer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Locking the Waste Bucket Very Difficult When closing and locking the waste bucket back into the machine it will not do so intuitively or naturally. You have to guide it back shut a certain way or else it will not close back shut and you have one side of the bucket not latched on. This gets very annoying after the 3rd or fourth time and it will happen more than once. Although my previous lesser model shredder from fellows was smaller and would jam more often it did not present this difficulty with the non-latching bucket. If push came to shove I would probably go back to the smaller fellows machine though regretabbly.

We even purchased and used the (high priced Fellowes) lubricant as directed. Having used Fellowes shredders at home and work for over 20 years, totally disappointed by customer service.

My only complaints thus far - (1) the manual provided with the product is missing the portion that discusses the paper feed monitor (when you include too much paper or can insert more) and how to oil the machine. (2) The oil provided also does not tell you where to cut it to open it and I cut too low and now the cap does not fit. (3) the waste bin is flimsy and I do not know how it will hold up in use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Shredder Purchase! After our old noisy shredder (different brand) finally and thankfully bit the dust I purchased a SB99ci. I had read other reviews for a similar Fellowes shredder and decided that this would fit our needs. We have a 12 person office with about 5 people shredding on a regular basis. The machine is quiet, efficient and crosscuts efficiently. The finger guard works very well as does the CD and credit card shred function. Although we would don't shred more than 7 pages at a time, we have had only one jam in 3 months that cleared easily. I would buy another in a heartbeat!

It is much quieter than the old one and handles more paper at one time. I like the larger bin, but there is not a system to hold the catch bags in place so you have to drape them over the top of the bin. I have notices that the shredded paper seems to land on one side and cuase the bin full indictor to light despiet being lots ofroom in the bin. Then you have to open the bin and redistribute the cuttings to continue. A minor annoyance, but the only reason I gave it a four star rating on the operation feature. [Myolder DM65C was worse and tended to build up cuttings until they began to jam the cutters - the reason it finally failed. ] I bought cutter oil as well and hope to run this shredder for years!

There is a light that tells you if you have too much, just right, or could add more to your bundle being shredded.... no guessing and then getting a jam. Quite, compact, and mighty. It's compact, has wheels, and fits into a small corner near a desk easily. Definitely one of my better purchases online.

If we can keep it oiled and give it time to cool off, I think it should last a while. Don't expect perfection. The opening for paper is very tight for 8.5x11 and it won't let you shred more than 17 sheets, so patience is required.

Just did about 20 boxes last night. I'm talking regular and thick corrugated cardboard. It chews right through them. I saw this demonstrated on YouTube video reviews of the 99Ci and now I can confirm that it really works well! Great machine!

When I couldn't find a commercial shredding company to take my six-foot-tall stack of boxes holding business and personal records (they work in tons, apparently,) I decided to buy the 99Ci. When I have a spare 15 minutes I feed stacks of paper into it and it chews through everything with ease. At this rate I'll be finished quickly. Call me "Happy!"

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great shredder, room for improvement I have an online friend who got one of these and loves it, so when my sister asked for help picking one out, I chose this one. I have used it a few times myself and love it. The 14 year old shredder I had in my office was jamming and not cutting well, so I decided to get this for it the day that this went down around twenty bucks in price. I just got through setting it up and will do a little review. It is very quiet. It is more quiet than my ductless A/C and Laser printer, but not as quiet as the dorm refrigerator if that gives you an idea of the volume. As far as the casters, I was able to put them in just using my hands and a little pressure (then again I am the Hulk ;-) ) Most went in the first time or two, but one took a little extra to push all of the way down. Whether that was the position it was (left side, furthest away) or a little difference in the slot or caster is beyond me. Still, it is nothing to complain about although I am sure even using a rubber mallet would be a little awkward. At first I thought that they measured it wrong, because of the shape of it etc. but it does barely fit under my desk (which at its lowest point) is not quite 26 inches off from the bottom of the drawer to the floor. This is taller and not as wide. One strange thing though is the slot to fit the paper is from front to back instead of side to side (due to how narrow this is.) I suppose I could flip it around, but it would be awkward. As it is, I have to pull this out from under the desk for use anyhow (but I don't shred even every week, so it is a hassle I will put up with as my space in here is limited), and I don't have another good place for it. My old shredder didn't have casters, so I guess I could have not put them on, but his thing is pretty hefty and I like the convenience of having it on wheels to have the carpet vaccumed underneath. One way I thought was a little cheap is that the majority of the bucket seems to be made from corrugated plastic instead of tougher plastic. At least it reminds me of my corrugated plastic LP boxes. This does make it a bit lighter (which would be helpful for some to empty), and yes, I suppose it would be fairly easy to unscrew the tougher plastic that attaches to it and replace the corrugated plastic section (presuming one could get a replacement). Still, I expected a bit more in that department.

After struggling for 10 years with a substandard, cranky shredder, we scraped up money from the budget for a new one. This is amazing, it can shred more than one page...shreds CDs too. This is like going from analog to digital. Really nice! Supposedly it can shred 17 pages at one time, but I'd never try that - our employees were always jamming the shredder, so hopefully this will make life a little easier on me, the shredder unjammer! We hope to get years of service out of our new shredder. Thank you Fellowes for making such a nice machine!

(Fellowes refused to stand behind the warranty on that one, even though the cutters were still covered by its 7 year warranty.) I have no idea how they rate this shredder for 17 pages per pass. If I run two 20# sheets through or one piece of card stock type of junk mail, the little meter on it goes all the way up to red, indicating that it's too much! I ran two sheets at a time through this shredder for four minutes and it overheated! WTH?! Piece of junk & I'm returning it. Not as quiet as the last one, either.

I have not had any jams and the basket is large and doesn't require constant emptying. I would recommend this shredder to anyone looking for the whole package.

We work with a lot of confidential files and thus have a lot of shredding. The large waste bin is great! We were constantly cleaning out the bin on our other shredder which filled so quickly causing several paper jams. This shredder indicates when the bin is full before a jam even occurs. We are very satisfied thus far. Also, the sheets of paper capacity is great as well and the shredder indicates when you're trying to feed through too many sheets at once.

First thing in the morning you can shred for 15 minutes at the most and then you have to let it cool for 45 minutes. Every hour you get about 1 1/2 medium kitchen bags of shredded content. We constantly oil it but it overheats after 15 minutes of use. I even tried feeding 5 pages at a time and this does not work

In the past several months it has begun to produce some sort of tone as it finishes a 8.5x11 sheet. It seems to be a type of warning tone. I cannot find anything in the manual that mentions this condition.

The criticism is that the side pocket can be knocked off too easily. Not a big deal, but would be nice if, when you connected it, it stayed. The featre request is that we have an optional catch pocket we could temporarily put inside to catch DVD/CD/Credit Card shredded pieces. This way it would be easier to keep things separated for recycling purposes. But, all in all, very glad with purchase. Thank you Fellowes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 99ci just used the 99ci for the first time. most of the reviews i read were right on. had no problems with the shredder it self. preforms great. no jamming and i did 2 yrs. of business tax returns in a matters of hours instead of days. the only thing i would like to see is with the top part of the draw. when you close it, it feels like it's going to break. the top handle needs some more support. and while they are at it, they may want to figure a little better way to activate the shredder when closing the draw. sometimes you miss the little niche that they have. other then that this is a great machine.

It is supposed to have a 17 sheet capacity but the red light comes on when putting in an envelope or as little as 2 sheets. As well, where the cutting mechanism is situated on the top of the machine, the "basket full" light comes on because the shredded paper all falls on the left of the basket. I would not recommend this shredder to anyone.

The only thing we did notice was smoke or what appeared to be smoke coming from the location where we put the paper in, but one office worker said it was probably the residue from the shredded paper versus smoke.

We WORKED this little machine shredding box after box of old files. Running it FAR LONGER than the suggest 1/2 hour....and it kept on chugging. The empty drawer is not the most convenient... but it works. We shredded MOSTLY paper, some staples, the occasional credit card/CD and it kept on grinding. We did lube it with shredder lube. Other than leaking a bit on the floor from overzealous filling... it seemed to help. Bottom line: if you don't abuse this model...she will keep on chugging. GOOD value for the money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Done forever looking for a heavy duty shredder for home After 3 previous shredders that started with a small basket, two others that were store branded, I'm done with cutting heads that give up and you can't get any parts for them, the motors smoke, just not beefy. This is why I bought the 99CI. First, the cutters are lifetime warranteed. Second, even if the motor quits, you can buy genuine OEM motors on eBay. I'm an engineer and the 99CI is built tough.

I turned on the power switch on the back, and I pressed the power button on the top of the unit. Nothing happened.

Had to use a rubber hammer on two of them. It handled 15 sheets very quietly. Wish the manual had included oiling instructions and had to discover online.

The new one works quieter and is equally as efficient; however, the paper basket is made of plastic corrugated. While lighter it does not push in as nicely as the old one. I chose to insert and use the old basket and it works perfectly. In my opinion, the manufacturer got cheap. Additionally, I like the old electrical cord that could be disconnected at the shredder not only at the plug. The new one is permanently connected to the shredder requiring one to crawl under desks to plug and unplug.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good replacement but 2 minor drawbacks My old Fellowes DM17Ci came to an end of a brilliant life and the 99Ci seemed to be the new version. It was reassuring that something so similar was still available which of itself was a good sign. I am pleased with the new one especially that it takes more sheets at a time and so far hasn't triggered the red light at all. However there is no cord tidy to wind the cord around when not required. I hate trailing cables. The other issue is that the drawer is cardboard rather than smooth plastic the the DM17Ci had. This makes it far harder to pull the full bag out ready for disposing of. It catches on the plastic fixings. Otherwise I have no complaints.
