I've had this for a few years and regret buying it. It's bright but top heavy and constantly flips down or falls over even with 9.0 ah battery on it. The hook just falls out so you can't even hook it to something or when you do it just spins to blind you while you try to work. If you try to lock it down, it will drop out of lock then either drop or blind you (even with a 2 ah battery)

Package prominently reads 1000/300 Lumens.
Bought DC050 at Lowes this morning. After trying it, I realized it was half the brightness of my DCL043. Txt'd chat support and the said it was a misprint on the package and acted as if it were no big deal. They said just return it to Lowes. I wonder how many people DeWalt cheated? I would think DeWalt would have called all the big box stores and told them to pull from the shelves. Class-action stuff.

Best overall light
I have all the DeWalt handheld lights. If I could buy only one this would be it. It throws light over a broad area and is very bright. It's great under a cabinet, hood of a car, in a crawl space or attic, and awesome for camping.

Great everyday work light!
The DCL050 is an excellent all around light that is useful in a variety of applications. The 3-LED's in the unit can be set to low (250 lumens for working in tight areas and to high (500 lumens) for illuminating larger areas. The head of the unit pivots to allow for precise positioning of the light on the work area and a rotating metal hook at the top allows it be hung when necessary. Any Dewalt 20V Max battery can be used to power the light and I have found the battery lasts a very long time, even when using the high setting for extended periods. When installed, the battery forms the base of the light, allowing it to stand by itself on flat surfaces. The unit has a comfortable grip handle, and a belt hook can be attached to allow hands-free carrying. I regularly use this light and definitely recommend it.

Very happy!
It does the job well. I have switched to this work light completely from my other rechargeable lamps. Very universal, using in the attic and crawlspace, but also for car work and as a hiking lamp. Superbly universal! Love the hook on top. Mostly using with 3Ah and 4Ah battery.
I wish it would be more stable (it has tendency to tip over quite a bit especially on non-even surface), there should be more intensities of light (two as they are and on press and hold to adjust to any intensity - easy software update). The head sometimes folds up and down too easily.

Surprisingly bright and durable
I have owned this for a while, and like most of the tools I own I use them very roughly. I dropped this light from 35 ft and it didnt even flinch. Still works flawlessly. The fact that the light also bends backwards is very nice to get into some tricky spots.

This thing is invincible
I had this thing mounted to the front of my dirt bike and went down a hill climb and couldn't stop in time and had me and my bike fly into a tree and at 15 to 20 miles a hour and the light is where it hit the tree head on and it got ripped off and battery flew but the light didnt even have a scratch on it and works perfectly fine still unlike my knee which needed 17 stitches.

AWESOME LIGHT!!!!
This light is my go to light for everything from working on vehicles to crawling around an old basement. Lasts forever(it seems) with a good battery. The hook is great for hands free lighting.

Area light
I bought this for the sole purpose of using it while tent camping. Light weight so it hung at the highest point of our tent. Lights up our entire tent. So bright that I had to use the lower setting so that it wasn’t so bright. Also works as a spot light. Again, very bright.

The best work light
I am an hvac tech and have owned this work light for about a year. When it comes to after hour service calls, crawl spaces or walk in boxes, this light will be your best friend. With a 5 amp hour battery, it gives me an all day run time and then some. I have been so impressed by this work light I now have 2. 10/10 recommend.

Very bright light!
This area light does exactly what the name states, very bright light that illuminates whatever room or space your in. You can either set it on the ground and articulate the head or use the hook at the top on numerous places. I have been using this light for a few years now and I'm very pleased with this product!

Happy with my purchase!
I bought this light about a month ago and love it! Before I was using either a corded work light or a flashlight that was hard to get in the right position . So far I have used this new work light in the engine bay of my truck, in the attic, and under the sink for a plumbing repair. It puts out so much light for its size and I can really see what I am doing. I wish I would have gotten one sooner!

Extremely Versatile
This LED area light is excellent for electrical work. Its compact design makes it perfect to use in the tightest spots. The light is powerful enough to light up an entire room with ease and the adjustable angle is great when I need to see in a precise location. The build quality is awesome. I dropped my light of the top of a 12 foot ladder onto tile and it still works perfectly. I HIGHLY recommend this light.

Bright light on a dark job
I normally don’t give a five star rating for a light but I can’t give this one anything less than five stars! It’s amazing how much light this little tool puts out and it’s great that Dewalt put two brightness settings in the switch. It’s great on battery life and doesn’t put off any heat, what more can I say!? I’m already waiting on my next three to arrive. I have several of the lights from tool kits, and they work just fine but this bad boy blows them all out of the water.! A must have for dark jobs or constant use. Truly amazing. Dewalt, thank you for another great addition to my collection of yellow and black power tools, now over 200 tools strong and growing. If they keep making tools like this, I’ll have no choice but to purchase from Dewalt as usual. I have only been disappointed once and that tool was probably made first thing on a Monday morning when everyone was still hungover lol. That’s not bad considering that I’ve been in commercial construction work for 15 years. I still have some of the old 18v tools that work just fine(look like they’ve been hit by a train).

Had it for many years now. Does'nt last long on a battery. Its a flood light, but does not produce that much light. The swivel mechanism does not hold tightly. Beside that, its one tough lamp, Dewalt quality.

Love this light!
I bought this light about two years ago and have been using it even since! I work on automotive equipment and it really comes in handy. Can stand it on the battery base and angle the light to get it to shine where it’s needed. Also has a hook to handle it in places where it can’t stand. Recommended!

Bright and easy to use
This light has been flexible in its uses in more ways than one. I’ve used it to light up a computer keyboard because I still need to be able to see the keys. I’ve used this to light up a dark corner. It stands well on its battery and hangs from its hook. It’s more of an area light then a spotlight which is what I would need.

GREATEST CONVENIENCE, ALWAYS HAVE ON HAND W/O
I'm a JOURNEYMAN Electrician & if l have to get into hard to reach or access areas it's always a hassle to run an extension cord for a worklight. Sometimes there's no power available to run a cord for a work light & a flashlight is difficult to position on the target in order to work on it not to mention the fact that a flashlight eats batteries. W/this worklight I have all my batteries on hand that I use w/all my Dewalt tools which are rechargeable & saves me a fortune. In conclusion, I have many different options to position this worklight whether it's tilting the lights head while standing it upright or, hanging it from a point overhead & aiming it at the area I need to work on.

Top Notch Area light for service work
This light is great for any service industry. As an electrician I use it anywhere and everywhere mainly working in panels and attics. This light is so good that I know the model number by heart because I recommend in so much. Now that's saying something!!!

Great littlish light!
I love this light. My wife and I have used this quite a bit over the last 18 months or so. I just had a leak under the kitchen faucet this evening and this light allowed me to find the leak. It stands up securely with my 6.0Ah Flexvolt battery. I've used it for countless other tasks around the home and it works great.

Not as bright as you would want.
Nice quality, but for the price, I expected a lot brighter. Cant fill a garage with sub-par lighting. If its right on top of your project your fine. But if you wanting to fill a small area, think again.

The Only Light You Will Need
Living in South Florida, there will be a storm and you will lose power. I have a collection of lights and lanterns that I have used over the years incandescent, florescent and now LED. Nothing I've had compares to this light. Insanely bright for it's size. Versatility with the pivoting head to point the light where you want. Point it back and bounce it off the ceiling for an area light or shine it directly where you want. I'll add a couple more along with more XR 20V Batteries for this Hurricane Season. It's a great work light too, it's my go to light and always ready to go to work when I need it.

I just went to 20 V last year and was ready for a light last month. I was happy to see a flood available and not just a spot. Homes we have had, hotel rooms we’ve rented and just about any place I decide to sit and read for a few hours never have a reading light as good as this one. I do keep the new light cleaner than I can my construction site batteries. I’ll get another one.

Great all around light
I just started using this but am very happy with it so far. My old light is the DW919 and there is no comparison between the two. I saw one person complain about their 5.0ah batteries not fitting well but my DCB205 batteries slide on and off with ease. Maybe it was an early production model they had? I use it for lighting up small areas for electrical work and for working underneath vehicles. It won't be the same as a well lit room or being outside in the daylight but I can see just fine with it and that's the point.

An Overall Excellent Light
Provides ample light for projects large and small. I have used it for everything from automotive work to attic and crapspace projects. The light is versatile and battery life cannot be beat, especially on the 9ah Flexvolt batteries.

Works but has issues
I have the DCL040 and love it si I wanted to love the DCL050 but it comes with issues. The light is OK but needs a wider field of light. The pivoting head is so long and heavy that the pivot continually falls to the 90 degree position so a stronger detent would be a nice update. The light I received has an issue with the battery clip on certain batteries. The 6 ah batteries slide on and off with ease but my 5 ah batteries are very hard to get on and off as if the light has a mold error for the battery guides. Once locked in position there are no issues but it is very difficult to get the depleated battery off the flashlight. The same battery slides on and off ALL my other tools without issue so it is only the DCL50 flashlight that has this issue. Light output is ok for general use but overall could be brighter.

I only just got the light but it feels awesome and it is super bright i only have one complaint and that is about the pivoting head i wish that it either took more effort to pivot or that it could lock (I find that when using the light it will pivot at times where I do not want or require it to pivot

I've had this light for years as it came in a combo and it is an awful design. Even with a heavy 6mah battery it is top heavy and awkward and always falling over when you need it most.

This light I keep close.
With a lightweight design, I take it everywhere I go. Also, as I'm getting older my eyes are having trouble adjusting to dark and dim lit places. I use this light everywhere, e v e r y where. I've not not been able to light up an area where I needed to complete any task. Found to be durable after dropping it once or twice from improper handling, I believe this to be the last worklight I ever buy.

This light works pretty well and is nice and bright for its size. The head is heavy enough that the light will rip over if you try to stand it up on the battery and angle the head up or down. I switched to a 6AH battery and it's much better but still tippy.
The head angle detent are not strong enough so it doesn't like to stay at the angle you set it at when standing.
The hook pivots freely when extended so the light will twist away from what you pointed it at with an accidental bump. It would be nice if there was some resistance in that joint.

Love this Light
Ive had this light for 2 years. i use all the time as i am an hvac contractor, i love the hanging hook, longevity of battery, and durability. Im wondering how long a flex volt battery would last on this baby.
The negative- I like that it tells me Im on borrowed time battery wise by flashing- unless Im in a dark spot. Not a big deal but worth mentioning.

Long lasting durability
We have had two these lights for several years on our dairy farm. They've been dropped in mud, muck, and manure and still work like the day we bought them. Nothing gets inside by the electronics.

Great light but....
I own about 4 of these and about 6 of the old florescent version. The led is a definite upgrade but could use a better detect on the flex head. It will become too loose and not hold firm when needed.

Overheating problems
Got two of these from Amazon deal of the day since it was so cheap. For some reason (not the battery both of the lights will shut off after running for about half an hour when I work in the attic. SO I carry both lights with me and use one at a time. Reason I think it’s overheating is it takes a while to turn back on after, have to wait a couple minutes and even then, it maybe stays on for 15 minutes then shuts off again.

Great little light
I hate cords and bought this to replace the 14v fluorescent light that I had and used regularly, but the NiCad batteries died and it won’t accept the 14v Li Ion battery I have. Best move I made. It is the “right” size and the dual intensity mode is a bonus. Light life, even on the 2 AmpHr battery, is acceptable on bright and more than acceptable on low light mode. Even on the low mode the light output is usable. I use this on house projects and repairs. So, it may sit around for a while and then get used for a week or 2 or more, straight. I have had it long enough to put it through its paces, including dropping it from some pretty good heights, which it survived. I read that some people have problems with it staying at an angle. This has not been an issue on mine. Maybe a quality issue? Even so, I am entertaining buying a second.

Nice smaller light, good for all types of projects
I love this light for up close work. Works fantastic for enclosed areas, wide angle of displacement. Very bright. I like you do have some control over brightness. One area of improvement would be on the set detentes for the light. Being able to adjust the light is nice however the head of the light is to heavy for the detentes that are currently on the light. The head falls to easily. I would like to see a position lock or stronger detentes. When I am using the light with electronics and hanging on ceiling hooks it works great. I would recommend this light for everyone with 20v systems.

Outstanding light
I picked this up from Napa a few weeks ago. I have a 4aH battery that I am using with my 20v system. Used the light for about 4 continuous hours, and the battery still showed “full”. The light itself is fantastic. Really illuminates the area well. If you don’t have one of these lights, stop what you are doing and get one.

Died after two hours of use
Junk. After two hours of use the light died, I went ahead and swapped the battery with a freshly charged one, it turned on for a few seconds and turned off. I then decided to put my batteries on a Dewalt drill and surprise they worked. Don’t buy this expensive piece of junk, your better off with a real plugin drop light.

Good work light, but needs a position thumb lock.
This lights ergonomics are great, and once you are set up at the work site you are good to go. My problem with it is that If you are using it while walking or going up an attic ladder the head can move out of position on you. This issue could easily be resolved with a thumb lock button or position lock pin. Otherwise, its well constructed and a very good work light.

Excellent Work Light!
The DeWALT Area Light provided ample light indoors and outdoors (very bright). Simple to use and very durable. The stow away multi function hook allows me to hang the light above my work area. I would like to see the hook be able to lock into place so the light does not spin when moving.
I use the DeWALT 20-Volt Max 4.0 AH Premium XR Lithium-Ion battery with the Area Light. This provides for several hours of continuous use.
