I've used this drill for the last 3 years on a ton of small projects around the house and it has never failed me once. Zero issues with small job drilling or as a screw gun. No clue how many times it has been dropped or knocked over, but it doesn't miss a beat!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Comfortable to Hold and Use I have some arthritis in my spine so needed a drill lighter than the 20V I initially bought, which while about 3.5 lbs, felt much heavier and was really noisy. This compact drill is just about perfect for my needs. At $190 though I rated the value as a 4. It did come with 2 batteries, charger and a case though.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Drill but Poor Batteries I bought this drill from Lowe's Spring of 2020. After use for a couple of months, the drill would not hold a charge. I was able to speak to a support person. They had me send the drill in and a week or so later I got a replacement. I briefly used the drill once or twice. When I got to November, both batteries would not hold a charge. I then took it to repair center in Houston (drove 35 miles. They said one battery was good and replaced the other battery. Now, it is the end of December and the older battery will not hold a charge. Over the course of this time, Dewalt has less support options and it is more difficult to find support on their website. I really do not want to drive a total of 70 miles to replace a battery. This will be the last product I buy from them. Sad.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from very disapointed I bought this drill at Lowes a week ago. First time using it today to drive wood screws. After about 5 hours working, the trigger stops working. Squeeze the trigger and it runs for a minute and then stops. Very disappointed. Now I have to take it back to Lowes to get it replaced.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just right for the job. As a General contractor and Carpenter I’ve used countless Dewalt XRP cordless 18volt tools for decades. Last year I upgraded to the Brushless XR series, specifically the DCF887 XR impact driver and DCD796 XR Hammer/Drill driver for my daily use. I thought these were light years ahead of the XRP series in terms of size, weight and runtime until I got this new 12volt DCD701 Drill Driver. Quite impressive for its size and battery package. I’ve used the DCD701 for about 2 weeks at my job sites as my primary driver. My work is primarily cabinetry and finish carpentry using an assortment of drill bits, Phillips screws, T-screws. The DCD701 allows me to drive fasteners in tight spots where a standard driver just won’t suffice. It’s lighter weight and smaller battery allows for more one handed control in tight spots like under cabinets and small drawer. In 2 weeks of 9 hour average daily use, I’ve only recharged the batteries once. Dewalt has managed to make a strong chucked driver the size of an impact driver while retaining the versatility of a standard size cordless drill. Fit and feel of the DCD701 is classic Dewalt, which is great. Over the years I’ve developed tendinitis on my right hand. Having a powerful driver the size of my XR or XRP impact driver is just great. One difference I’ve noticed is the 12volt battery release mechanism is different from the 20volt batteries. It took me a while to get used to. Given the long runtime though It doesn’t bother me as much. Good Job guys.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great value I bought this yesterday at Lowes. I like the tool. The size and ergonomic design is great. The power is good. However, one of the two batteries is dead! The battery charger design could be better. As it is, the batteries do not channel into the cradle and snap in to clearly let you know that the battery is seated.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Compact Solid Powerful When I purchased this drill a month ago, I was looking for a more compact drill. I have 12 volt and 20 volt Dewalts in my arsenal currently, but needed something shorter to get into tighter spaces. I restore antique furniture and built cabinets so having the right tool for the job is crucial. When I opened the box, one thing I noticed right away was the build quality on this drill. Its solid, much like the 20v series but fits comfortably in your hand. The hand grip is comfortable but very grippy even when wearing gloves. The drill has a smooth operating chuck and the varible speed trigger makes it easy to set holes before going wide open throttle. I put this through the paces as if it was already my everyday drill. It took the beating from drilling several holes in plywood and maple, to setting screws without changing the battery. I found myself not having to push down on the drill, which is great for a fatique when you have a lot of work to do. Since purchasing, I have recommended this drill to others looking for Christmas gifts as one to consider over others drills in the same market. Power, speed, and agility you want in a drill. Only downside I could find, and yes I look for those in drills, is there wasn't an electronic brake for driving screws. It's not a deal breaker by any means as you just have to remember to let the drill do the work. Most solid drill in this class on the market, period!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Basically built a 20'x20' Pergola with this I've used this drill/driver for all sorts of jobs, and over the past few months built a pergola using it everywhere I could. 1/2" holes through 6x6s, 1-1/2" spade bits through 2x's, 4" 3/8 lag screws, #10 wood screws 10" bolts. Incredibly easy to chuck the various bits, swap the torque, change the spin or lock the trigger. The batteries seem to last forever if not really pushing the tool (it will eat through a battery doing the larger/longer screw driving). The light position/aim is perfect and the belt hook was a nice inclusion.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Size and Plenty of Power I had the original 12v Dril, Impact Drill and Recipercating Saw set and loved the size and weight with good power. My son was looking for a cordless drill and I got him the Xtreme 12V Max. Love it even more and went and bought my self one to add to my set. Has even more power and torque than my origninal. Love it! The small size makes this great in tight spaces and have plenty of torque. It will not disappoint! Just wish they made more tools in this 12V format. For $99 at Lowes it is a bargin!

This drill has everything I need to get the job done. It has enough power to drive any self tappers, compact size and weight make it ideal in tight spots, it's also very durable which is a must!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not very happy Bought this as a combo with a 12v drill driver. Also have a 12v circular saw. Used only a little bit (less than 30 minutes total each tool), Needed to replace a piece of subfloor. Put in a fully charged battery in the saw. It managed to saw through 3/4" plywood...a total of about 12 linear fee...then the battery ran out. With the drill driver, put in a fully charged battery (different one that came with the combo). Drove 47 3" screws into the subfloor and joists, and the battery was ready to die. Is this normal? I like the tool itself, but the battery life is ridiculous. I'll likely have to buy a corded drill to put screws into the subfloor, as I'm laying 600 square feet of wood flooring. I expected a lot more from DeWalt. It seems like a lot of people are having battery charger and battery life problems.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Small Powerful Drill!!! I bought this a couple months ago, when we moved into our new house and it is great!!! I have used it for all the small projects inside the house and to put up a metal shed in the back yard. It fits perfectly in your hand and is light weight. My dad has a older 20V Dewalt drill and This 12V Drill is as good and sometimes better than his. It was also a great price for the fact that it not just included the tool, but 2 batteries, a charger, and bag. I will recommend this to all my friends. The only downside in my opinion is that there is not a whole lot of tools on the 12V line as much as there is on the 20V line. Consider that when purchasing this especially if you plan on buying other Dewalt cordless tools. But again, this drill is awesome and will be used for all the rest of my projects.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice drill but very short lifespan My drill stalled without any load. I couldn't find the receipt so I can only go by the mfg date code. Customer service told me it is under the 3 year warranty and receipt is not needed. Sent the product to Dewalt for repair. They told me they need to charge me for the repair since it is beyond the 1 year warranty and the 3 year warranty does not cover "normal wear or abuse". It is very disappointing that after using the drill occasionally, it is considered normal wear for it to fail in less than 3 year. I would call it defective for a drill to last less than 3 year under very light use but too aggravating to argue.

I used this to redo some big beams in my house and the drill just screwed the screws in like they were nothing. Portability and size helps it get into tight areas. I would highly recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Performance Plus, Surprised ! I finally broke down and purchased the New Xtreme 12V Max Kit with Drive. As soon s I used the new 12V DrillI was glad I purchased this tool. The new Drill is more powerful than the older design 12V and has more speed. Alos, I didn't plan on any particular use for the Driver, I had to take some body panel off my Tractor to replace a Hydraulic Hose and decided to use the 3/8" Driver, WOW is all I can say. Although the Bolts weren't the largest this tool made short work of them Mounting Hardware. I got the panels off, the Hose replaced, and all put back together in short order. I am very impressed with these new XTREME 12V MAX* Brushless 3/8 in. Cordless Drill/Driver, I'm glad I waited to buy and I got two tool that as far above the older design and out perform them by far.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Buy this tool and you will love it. Never do I ever use the big set drill. I love the impact bit hate the drill because it's heavy and ackward. But this little guy...I have used it every day now since I got it. 12v has the power and it is so lightweight. Hate doing deck boards because your wrist gets tired. Grab this lightweight drill and a 10 inch snap bit and you are cruising. These are small enough for the clear top toughcases. Looks sharp in there all nice and neat.

I have a handful of the 20v drills and impacts but I can already tell they're going to get jealous of the new guy. Easy to carry in the belt and hardly notice. Amazing run time and seams to be happy to handle almost anything. Easy money to spend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic COMPACT and easy to use Dewalt DCD701 Drill Drill, 2 batteries, case,charger This tool is fantastic (i received this tool from dewalt, was asked to review it, but my reviews of ANY tool are based on my USE of it, and realistic feedback I have multiple dewalt tools, including drills. I have a 20v Drill/hammer combo, and also a 20v Brushless drill. The hammer drill is great, very powerful, but heavy for every day projects, so i bought a 20v brushless. Wow, what a weight difference, and it also has LOTS of power. AND, its profile is smaller (about 6 1/2 inch head length), allowing for use within rafters, etc. SO, I carry THIS one in my tool bucket, great for all around use. SO, NOW, I got the DCD701 drill. It came as a Kit, with two batteries, the Drill, and the Charger. it is 12v, but the battery charges in the 12/20 charger, so i did not have to alter my basement charging station. First Impression, it is a GREAT tool !. I want to use this in my basement, for everyday in-home stuff, or work stuff, and relegate the 20v Hammer drill to heavier projects. THIS 12v tool does the job !. ITS head length is 5.97 inches, even smaller than the brushless 20v one. AND, its handgrip, although smaller, (which is good), STILL allows my big hand to grip this drill comfortably. its weight is lighter, allowing for longer drill use and easier maneuverability. Trigger control is good also. It has power, I've used 1/2 inch bits with it, in wood, drills without any hesitation. I normally don't use the clutch positions, because the trigger gives me enough control to easily drill screws into materials but still not overdrill them. ONE small problem for me, although i would NOT subtract tool benefit, is the CHUCK diameter. it is a smaller diameter than the 20v brushless. That is good, for weight, and smaller profile, but my big hand has a harder time to grasp that chuck to tighten drill bits. BUT, that said, i am still able to get the bits locked in, just took some getting used to. The batteries, at 2ah, 12v, are very compact, and they last, did not have to charge frequently, despite continual drill use. Overall, I give this drill a 5 star rating, it is excellent, and the kit is a very good value as a starter kit for other 12v tools.

I tried a lot of them and did not meet the required purpose, depending on the type of work I was focusing on a 20-volt drill because of its power. But when I needed a small and light drill for the purpose of working in some confined spaces So I searched and found this Dewalt 12 volts Extreme so I decided to give it a shot . When I use this drill i was surprised by what I found. This drill has more power than its size .. Light weight and powerful With tremendous torque .. what I like. 1- small and Light weight. 2- Powerful Motor And Excellent torque Compared to size 3- 15 clutch settings. 4- Led light. 5- Brushless motor. Disadvantages Until now nothing.

Exceptional battery life for a small drill and easy to get into tight spaces. I’d recommend to anyone.

It has better power, torque, and lasts twice as long before needing a battery change. I have the old 18V XRP system, and I use those tools regularly, but this 12v drill/driver is my go to, and works just as well as the 18V.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Drill I got this drill a couple weeks ago and I am completely impressed with it. As a woman in carpentry, I love how this drill fits my hand. It is lighter weight, yet it still has incredible power and all the torque I need to get my projects done. I love that the torque is adjustable making it useful for big and little projects. From screwing together my furniture pieces to hanging bridle hooks in my horse barn, this is my go to cordless drill from now on. Over all I would highly recommend it.

Arms dont get tired either from holding it above my head or at length. Battery lasts long enough for the day, charges quick. Has a meter on it so i know how much juice. Highly recommend for handymen jobs

I highly recommend this drill it’s great. It’s light weight and powerful what better combination could you want.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from For its size and voltage. I've had this since they appeared at Lowe's. And I must say I'm very impressed with the size and power. It's very light, and compact. It's by far the smallest drill in head size that I've used, it's great for those tight and hard to reach places. Some other 12v drills out there do have a little more power, but they are bigger in size. So if you are looking for a extremely compact and capable drill. Well you've found it. Some people may not like that it has a 3/8 Chuck and a plastic sleeve on the chuck. However I like if your working in a tight spot and the chuck has bumped what you are working on it won't scratch your work. The chuck is a ratcheting type so the bits stay put perfectly. I did however try a self feed 3/4 in spade bit, in some 2x6 and in 1st gear it drilled all the way through no issue. Battery life seems to be fairly good for a 2 ah battery and what i use it for.

The size makes it easier to get into tight spaces and it has plenty of power to get the job done. The batteries have a long lifespan as well. This is without question the best drill I own.
