They soon called me and advised me that the new Dell drive would not work with the cloaning software.

The drive was delivered fast (it was several days early!, packaging was great and the removal of the old drive and installation of the new was simple. My computer is back up and running like a champ.

But, I found a fantastic tool called "minitool" to handle it. The clone went very well and then swapping them went perfect. The extra space on my boot drive is so nice!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Review of Dell 512GB Solid State Drive The hard drive in my Dell G3 was failing (for the second time) so I decided to go with a solid state drive this time. I'm glad the Dell Support Assistant provided a warning that there was an issue with the hard drive. I'm not happy with having to replace the hard drive a second time. Each hard drive lasted about a year. Even though this drive has half the capacity of the old hard drive I was only using about a quarter of total storage capacity anyway. It was very easy to install. I used the free version of EaseUs To Do Backup Application to clone the old hard drive and copy it to the new SSD. Everything went well; the whole drive was cloned and it operates perfectly. This drive is very fast; programs load much quicker. I'm very happy with it so far. In the future I will only buy a computer that has a SSD. Dell did not provide any assistance or advice on how to copy over the OS and programs to the new drive; you are left on your own to figure this out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Replace old 100 GB SSD with a new 500GB SSD My original Latitude had a 100GB SSD that at the time I thought was a lot of storage capacity. But as time went on, data increased, documents increased, photos increased, software really increased. When I only had 3GB of free space left I moved some items off the laptop onto external hard drives. But I finally got to the point where there was nothing left to move. With the help of Dell's tech support I found the replacement 500GB SSD that would fit in my Latitude 5580. With Dell's advice I purchased the drive and Acronis True Image backup software. I also purchased an external case designed to hold an SSD. Finally, I used Dell's support videos and instructions to remove my original SSD, insert it into the external case and finally insert the new 500GB SSD into my Latitude. I've never opened my laptop up before so this was a bit scary. Oh, and as suggested I also wore an anti-static wristband. But it all went smoothly. Old SSD out, new SSD in, old SSD in the external case. Before replacing the SSD I used the Acronis True Image software to create a bootable flash drive. Following the instructions I changed the boot sequence (press F2 while booting the computer - do this before replacing the SSD) to boot from the flash drive first. I also used the Acronis software to create a full PC backup that included the recovery partion, Windows 10 operating system, all my software and data. All 100GB+. When all that was ready I opened up the laptop, easily replaced the SSD and closed it backup. Inserted the bootable flash drive. Using the USB connection inserted my old SSD (now in the external case) into the computer. And turned it on. The system booted from the flash drive using the Acronis software. I followed the Acronis instructions and did a backup from the old SSD to the new SSD (now installed in the computer) and waited. The Acronis software did exactly as described. It copied my old system onto the new SSD, adjusted the primary partition to the new SSD size and made the new SSD bootable. When it was done I shut the system down. Removed the flash drive. Removed the old SSD. Turned the computer on and waited. Perfect. It booted fine. All my stuff was there. And instead of 3GB free space I had well over 300GB of free space. The whole process took a few hours (plus lots of reading instructions beforehand) but with Dell's tech support and the Acronis instructions it went fine. In fact I'm using the computer to write this review. And I have 350GB of free space.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy replacement for C Drive So far, so good. I'm not sure why the previous, factory-installed drive suddenly needed replacing, but at least the system warned me about it. Don't bother using third-party backup and restore software when replacing your primary drive. Just create a windows backup image, save it to any other drive, then create a Windows Recovery Environment (RE) USB drive, then shut down, replace the old drive, and restore everything to the new drive by restarting with your USB Windows RE drive.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great upgrade I removed the 1TB hard drive from my Inspiron 15 and installed this SSD drive in the SSD slot in the machine. I loaded the backup of the old hard drive onto the SSD with the Paragon software. The machine is awesome now - 30 seconds to boot and open a web browser, and all operations lightning fast.

The reality is that you have to get more stuff because the manual assumes that you already have all that stuff. It was not installed when I bought my computer. To make it work you have to take a lot of it apart, I mean a lot! Install additional stuff, before you can apparently easily install this item. You have to remove the fans from the motherboard and other stuff. There is a video. I do computer repair and rebuilding and this is a "bridge too far" for a new computer. It should not be this difficult. Even entering you service tag doesn't make sure you can install it without the whole routine above. This is the second time I have been burned by the Dell automated ordering system, next time I will call.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better but not ideal I had this drive upgrade installed expertly at home by your engineer and that side of it was perfect, BUT the Dell PC configuration that necessitated it was anything but. My laptop has a very large memory, but it is on the D disc : the as-sold 100 GB C disc is woefully inadequate, in large part consumed just by uploading the basic Microsoft Windows and related files. My C disc was completely filled after only a few months’ modest operation. I spent many hours with your excellent, patient engineer Prathvi, but he had finally to give in and sell me the upgrade. I am now back up, but my files are still in something of a mess. Not right, simply not right. Do better, Dell! Do not put out to retail laptops that will presently clog up!

After the night mare of reloading software, because of the site having issues and not "having all the information at this time". But once that issue was over come I would recommend.

Then, I paid for at home installation. Come to find out I was sent a blank drive. The programs that I purchased with my laptop were not included! I am very disappointed in this laptop overall and in the bad advice and service surrounding this laptop!
