When I was on Dell's terrible website I did a search for accessories using the make / model of my laptop. It defaulted to the 45W version and the 60W was buried under all kinds of irrelevant results I've now discovered. I'm not sure why they'd even make two strengths of ac adapters? Anyway, as soon as it arrives, my laptop cautions me that this is not the best adapter for powering my computer. And it's not. It takes years longer than the one that came with my machine. I'm very unhappy with Dell, and their invasive process to even check out and buy an accessory. Now they spam me with useless emails like "features of your accessory" and inside the message are sales pitches that have nothing to do with my purchased accessory. I'd give it one star except it does power my laptop, barely.

I need it because the USB3 charger port is shoddy and breaks constantly. I have to hold the USB3 at an angle to make contact and am in constant danger of the charge running out of my computer if I'm not watching constantly. We had Dell come in and re-solder the USB3 port TWICE! while it was still under warranty. After the second time, the motherboards had to be reset and swapped out because it was refusing to turn on with some four white two red flash signal coming from the power light. Now it is no longer under warranty and I suppose we'll have to pay for fixing the USB3 port. I at least wanted this power cord for use at home and while traveling, but it does not work. Over the last 4 years using this computer, I have spent almost an equal time with a loaner computer and constantly worrying about keeping the chargers and the dock plugged to make contact or spending an hour fiddling and turning it on and off to get the computer to even turn on when I could get power. LEMON!!!

The one weak spot remains the same as its been for at least a decade - the plastic casing around the cord near the plug that goes into the laptop. That casing is meant to be sturdy, yet flexible. It ends up being the most vulnerable point and the place that breaks, causing failure.

The new cord didn't charge the laptop either, and after doing some research, I found that apparently, my laptop had a planned obsolescence and just plain no longer charges. Obviously, it will prevent me from ever purchasing a Dell product again.

It is loose in the socket and does not always connect to the battery properly. As a result it falls out of the socket easily. This also results in it not connecting to the battery to recharge properly. If I jiggle it around I can get it to connect but it is very kludgy.

These Dell chargers come out of the port straight which makes them prone to breaking and damaging the port if they should get accidently stepped on or tripped over. That doesn't happen with other brands where the plug makes a right angle. It's almost like they want the thing to break. Speaking of which...Dell's won't allow any other brand of power cord to charge the laptop battery. Thus, after my power cord broke when someone tripped over it, I thought my battery had died because the replacement cord I bought (not this one) wouldn't charge it. I bought a new battery, but it won't charge. I bought this cord (when I learned how Dell's reject other power cords) and it still won't charge. So it's probably the port that got damaged by the poorly designed power cord it came with (which I now have a second). So several purchases later my laptop still doesn't charge and runs super slow because Dell throttles the power output of non-Dell chargers. I will never buy another Dell product.

I bought THE EXACT SAME MODEL CORD to replace it and it doesn't work - the system says it can't recognize the adapter. I went through all of the troubleshooting suggestions on the website and forums, nothing worked. Called customer service, and after stringing me along for a while the representative prompted me to send the laptop in for paid service (my laptop is out of warranty. This is ridiculous. A part broke, I bought the replacement, that should be the end of the story. The fact that this -- and two other adapters I purchased desperately trying to find one that works -- did not work suggests Dell has set up its products in such a way that if they fail then some sort of paid warranty coverage is necessary for it to be fixed. This will be the last Dell I buy.

One thing that was no apparent was that the new cord is the replacement, but at a lower wattage. It works fine. After a few weeks of use, I started getting dialog boxes saying that the Dell power cord I was using was not compatible with the Dell computer. Eventually I ordered this Dell cord to replace the one that came with the computer. So ... I hope this new continues to work. Can’t give it more than 3 stars because ... it’s a power cord. However, I do find the power cords, whether Dell or3rd party, to be the weak link in this computer system. Both of my daughters in college have Dells ,also. We have replaced the power cords on those, too. I have had to replace the power jack where it plugs in on my computer. I really like Dell computers! These cords, that is different. I hope these last.

The laptop kept telling me that my cord wasn't working properly and because my dog had bit it, I went ahead and bought a new cord. No. The problem was the charge port which now completely refuses to take a charge. I have no way to repair my computer or get a refund. A computer that's a brick in less than a year?! I will never buy another Dell.

Of course, there is no warranty on the adapter. I will try to find one locally and suggest you do the same.

My Inspiron 5775 runs so slowly when plugged in that it’s practically unusable, and it only charges when the computer is shut down. I specifically paid for a Dell-brand adapter to avoid this problem, having already bought a third-party adapter, but no improvement.

You force us to buy an expensive power cord from you because you build your computers to refuse to charge your batteries from any other power cord, making my laptop a desktop. My laptop is great. I put in my laptop model, found a charger that was supposed to fit and had it shipped. Unfortunately, the brick part is not strong enough for my laptop, even though I put in my EXACT model laptop. I pretty much took the bottom part of my old charger (the brick part and replaced it with the new piece that plugs into the laptop itself as that was what was "fraying." All in all, I'm NOT happy with that situation and my next laptop will NOT be a DELL.

Unfortunately these adapters are low quality and stop working over time. My laptop will not charge with a few of them now, so I had to purchase this overpriced accessory to keep my laptop going. I will be buying a USB-C laptop in the future so I'm not tied to Dell's expensive proprietary chargers anymore.

I thought the power cord must be the problem, but I ordered the 45 watt from the Dell website and the 65 watt from the Dell website, both exactly for the Dell Inspiron, and both gave me the same error message so I returned them. Now I just use the power cord that the laptop came with, but I have to leave it plugged in all the time, and it is super slow. I am very disappointed.

That was off-putting. I am so happy that I have an original part and I have had zero error messages with regards to the parts charging capabilities and performance.

I have bought 2 different universal adapters from a local computer vendor and while they powered my laptop, they would not charge the battery, in fact one of them damaged the battery, forcing me to replace it. The adapter bought directly from Dell does exactly what it is supposed to do. In fact this adapter charges the battery fast and holds the charge. In hind sight I should have gone directly to Dell. It would have saved me the money, time and annoyance. I will be purchasing my laptop accessories directly from Dell from now on!

Made no sense to me. One would think that Dell could fix this by reinforcing this joint OR by building their computers with the jack on the right hand side, the side that my electrical outlet is on.

It worked for one day until she accidentally tipped her high school yearbook onto it. It could not have fallen more than 20 cm. However that was sufficient to dislodge the barrel sufficiently to render the charger useless. Perhaps some better reliability testing and hardening against simple accidents is required. Identical chargers from some online vendors are much less expensive, but I purchased this with Dell rewards points. Fool me once...

If the laptop falls, the straight connection will bend or break. The second design deficiency is that the wire from the power adapter to the laptop should be removable, and replicable without having to purchase the power adapter and 110 volt cord. I've had to replace the entire adapter twice when all that I've needed in both cases was the connector that runs from the adapter to the laptop. I don't think that I'll purchase another Dell laptop unless they redesign the power cord.

I located a used Dell charger from a third party seller with the correct barrel size that does work properly. I had originally attempted to replace my adaptor in early 2023 but was told by Dell sales representatives at the time the original charger may no longer be available due to supply chain issues with the prior manufacturer.

Plug it into Dell Inspirion laptop, get a warning message that the charger is not recognized. It will allow me to power the computer on as long as it is plugged in, but won't charge the battery.

None of the adapters I have used from Dell since the original adapter that came with the computer works. It is nerve-racking to have a presentation and not know if your computer will stay charged. Way better than when I went to a nearby computer store who set me up with a universal charger that did not work at all. The one drawback with this charger is that it doesn't seem to seat in the port tightly and it will stop charging until I get it wiggle it and get just so.

The plug the port precisely, and the power cord felt thick and durable. After years of hard use and abuse by my playful cat, I had replaced the power port twice and felt depressed when my trusty laptop started failing but, thanks to the Dell adapter and power cord, my old cat and I are happy now to have our laptop back in business.

When I plug it in, it takes a while to accept it, so I am not sure if the adapter being probably a barrel/capacitor, takes time to fill with electricity before it is usable, or the pin it plugs in to has problems. My son advised me to start troubleshooting the problem by purchasing a new power cord. I decided to go directly with Dell rather than by a power cord from another company - even though they said it was compatible with Dell's cord. The extra cost was well worth it.

I went onto Dell's website and looked up my laptop model number and it gave me the chargers and other hardware that goes with my laptop and this was the only charger listed. However when I received the charger (after spending over $50 in shipping and handling) I plugged it into my laptop and it said that it required a 65 watt charger, not the 45 watt that this one is, so it charges much slower. Dell sold me the incorrect charger for my laptop. I recommend that everyone does their research first.

I purchased a charger that was not an original Dell one and it worked for the most part, but after one of our dogs jumped on my lap and knocked my computer over that charger got damaged and so did the charging port in the laptop. After replacing the charging port I ordered an original Dell charger and it has been smooth sailing ever since.

So I went directly to Dell website typed in my lap top which is a few years old and it showed me which one to order. I am so happy it actually charges and it fit perfect an was longer than the original cord that came with my lap top. The other store charged the same price for a product that was not as good. So glad Dell still had my charger for sale

Even though the 45 W charger works perfectly, once plugged in, my computer subsequently tells me I have engaged an underpowered charger. I could have and should have purchased the other one, had the website designated which one my computer preferred.

Either the hole in the laptop (Dell Inspirion is too large, or the end of the cord is too small. It wiggles a little and does not fit tightly at all. I do not know which, but it does look like I have a problem here that I will probably need to replace the laptop ?

I have a hard time keeping the plug that goes into the laptop from wearing out. This might just be me as I keep my laptop on my lap and the cord plugs into from the left and goes to a plug on the right side but they give you plenty of length so it is not straining. I hope this is the last plug I have to order for my Dell laptop. Always brought Dell and do not regret that choice.

A few weeks ago, while still using the original, the BIOS began reporting "unable to reliably determine the voltage from the power adapter" (or words to that effect when the machine was restarted. I don't know if the original power adapter was actually the problem but the new one works fine and so far that message has not reappeared.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dell power adapter As it turns out this is the wrong adapter for my vintage Insprion 1750 (16 years old). I found the right one but had to work hard to understand and order the power cord that is required to attach it to AC. Nobody knew it was required and sold separately.

The Dell laptop that goes with it is still broken because the screen separated from the laptop on the right side and I can't close it all the way. I keep the screen open and sitting on the desk at all times to use it. I can't travel with this Dell laptop anymore. The Dell laptop is a huge disappointment. I will research other laptop brands in the future.

I have older laptops and the original power adapter still works. All are Dell laptops. I can’t find a different adapter that works with this new Dell laptop. Very disappointing.

If there is a problem with this product in general, then Dell should replace it free of charge. I spoke to a Dell rep but was told I would have to buy a new one.

That is because I have added a spring that will keep the white wire from breaking where it enters the plug. Shame on the engineer who designed it and the purchasing agent who approved it.

I bought this product not knowing the differences in wattage, and because of my mistake the charger would not work with my laptop. I’m also not entirely sure that this charger would work with most Dell laptops considering that the standard charger is 65W. The battery has also been replaced as has the power port. All are original Dell parts.

The biggest weakness of Dell laptops is their apparent inability to design a charger for a *portable* computer that actually holds up to portable use. The charging cord is almost inevitably placed under strain unless the laptop is left stationary, and there's no way to secure the cord so that strain is not placed on the charging port or charging cord. As a result a cord lasts only a few months. To make bad matters far worse, Dell has also designed the cord with a proprietary extra pin which is super delicate and the first thing to break, which will then not allow the laptop to actually charge the battery AND slows the speed to a fraction of its normal speed while plugged in. The intention is to require the use of Dell chargers rather than third party chargers, but again, I have had this problem repeatedly while using Dell chargers -- because the charger is poorly designed and does not hold up to mobile use.

So if you are ordering this because you want a spare to have on the shelf for a rainy day , go ahead and order from here but if you need it because the one you have broke/no longer works you should look somewhere else.
