Caution! Won't work with USB4 - not for new/current laptops!
I bought new CRUCIAL X9 4TB Portable for new Lenovo laptop.
I was wondering it is not recognized
--> Acc. to crucial support it does not work with current ports - up to older USB 3.2 only
There is not even a firmware update possible on this current product. As laptop of 2024 only has new USB4 ports I can throw the SSD away - CRUCIAL has no solution, although it's current product starting 2nd half of 2023...
- CRUCIAL brings outdated products in market and not even informs before o0f incompatibilities. Afterwards now they refuse any change or firmware help.
- The Crucial Storage Manager Software is senseless as there is no update possible
I recommend buying a more future proof product which at least works today - for me it's electronics scrap-although new and expensive. Do I need to by a new compatible product at Samsung now?

Works fine with M series Macs
I'm ex-IT, now semi-pro photog. Use 4 TB model for field storage. USB 4 is designed to be backward compatible with both Thunderbolt 3 and 4, as well as all variants of USB-C. If you have a modern laptop with USB 4 ports that don't work with this drive, try a different cable, or speak to the computer manufacturer about possible firmware updates for the computer. Although I had to reformat the drive in APFS, it was a trivial exercise.

This is my second. I would buy it again.
The product is good. No problems with it. But the '10critical' discount code I was sent would not load into the purchase so I never received it.

So far so good...
I'm converting my 16 external 1TB HDDs to these 4TB SSDs. Should be safer, but I consider it a high risk move. If one fails, I'll have four times the loss...

Very practical
Small, solid and large capacity. Everything I need to store my work data without fear of losing it, especially when traveling.

I'd buy another
I'd intended to use it to rotate my oldest backup drive out with, I do that with my drives every 3 or 4 years, but didn't realize it was so small. Instead I replaced the drive I carry in my laptop bag, probably get another to rotate my backup drive out with.
