Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Compact CameraI bought this camera to replace my EOS20D for travel. Really love the ability to stamp locations via the phone interface software.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Some regression.I have used a G16 hard for the past few years and a G12 before that. I have illustrated books with these cameras. With the mileage my G16 has, I want a new camera. This one certainly looks snazzy with the brown leather and somewhat retro design. Some more megapixels/guts is what I was looking for and G9X has that. Other than that, there is some regression I can't live with. Gone is the optical viewfinder that is often useful. Serious downgrade. The zoom range is only 28-84 now rather than the 28-140 of the G16. Another downgrade. Close focusing is to 5 cm. rather than 1cm on G16. Huge downgrade. Since I often photograph at distances inside 5 cm. that is a deal breaker! The perfect G series camera would be like a G12 as an instrument (same knob array and articulating screen please but have guts like the G9X. Brown leather is nice...... C'mon Canon! Can you stop taking away features and meet my needs? My G16 presently does meet my needs (G12 was better) but your new G series cameras definitely do not.A couple of features that would be nice would be flash compensation down to minus 3 and f11.
