Great Camera
Great camera, I love the form factor and the full frame low light performance is amazing, I just wish it had faster mechanical shutter FPS when shooting stills. But besides that, no complaints.

Amazing!!
This is my first Mirrorless camera and I couldn't be happier! I am upgrading from an Canon 5d Mark ii. I must of watched every review for this camera and having it in hand and using it, it has been incredible. Of course coming from the 5d the autofocus has been such a joy to use and the image quality has been wonderful and it is hard to take a bad shot if you have your settings right. I am a hobbyist so the single memory card is fine for me and I purchased 2 extra batteries so I've had no issues with that. The lack of IBIS is also no issue for me as I have my R8 paired with the RF 24-105mm F4 L which has in lens stabilization. Even with it off I haven't had any problem. I love the compact size of the camera as well. I am 6'9 with hands to match so I purchased the EG-E1 grip extension and it is is perfect. I give this camera a 10/10 and if you are on the fence just do it you won't regret it as long as you aren't needing those few things that it is lacking a major issue for you.

Nice job canon
A camera which will speak for itself once you try it. Almost a perfect camera and will be great for most of the photographer.

Terrible Customer Service
This review is more about Canon the company not the camera itself. I found the same camera brand new with a lens for less than this camera body only so I returned the unopened camera to canon. To start that process is way more difficult than necessary, in this day and time. You have to call, sit on hold and get an RMA, they are very specific on how it needs to be labeled and shipped. I sent it ups 2nd day and it was received on Jan 2nd. On Jan 9th I received an email stating if they didnt receive the camera within 48 hours that the return would be canceled. Of course Im frustrated because I know they have had the camera for 7 days at the time of the email I received. When I call in to see what was the issue on their end, I provided the order number and the rma number. They hadn't processed the return still so they couldn't find the package and asked for the tracking number that they would have in their system if they hadn't processed the item because I never provided it to them. I no longer had the tracking number because I had received confirmation that the package had safely arrived 8 days earlier. So back to the UPS store I went to get the tracking number so they could put in a request at the warehouse to locate and process the package. That was 4 days ago and Ive heard nothing sense. Bottom line there overall frustration of the return process and the fact that Im still waiting for my $1300 credit back to my card 19 days after I initiated the return is enough to make me never purchase from their website again. They just dont have their act together at all and dont seem too concerned for making their customer happy. I wouldn't have written a review but they sent me an email asking me what I thought of my product and service. I decided that since I still have an unresolved issue I should probably tell my story so someone else doesn't go through the same thing I have. If I could give them a -5 I would. In fact this whole thing has me considering returning the Canon camera I bought elsewhere and switching to another brand so I won't have to deal with this in the future when I am adding on to my system .

Photos on hikes, the R8 lives up to the first reviews online!
As a Professional Sports Still Photographer this is my first mirror-less Canon Camera, i am a longtime DSLR Shooter, & CPS Member, and hope to work the R8 into shooting fast moving Sports! For now i have only taken
personnel photos on hikes, it does live up to auto focus and low light metering for low light woods shooting! I do like the size & weight for hiking!

Hate Canons Shipping
I love my Canon R8, this review is more so about the delivery process. I have purchased through Canons website before and am aware of the stupid "signature required" upon delivery rule that is not optional. When I got my first camera I had to wait the entire day in my buildings lobby in order to sign for it. So when I got my second camera I already knew the deal. I missed the first two attempts, but on the last attempt I waited once again all day in my buildings lobby for the truck to come around. No truck ever came, but FedEx marked that no one was home. I was livid. I had been waiting for hours just for no one to come. (There is only one door to the building). It is impossible to get through to FedEx, so I first called Canon in which I was told by the representative that there is nothing they can do and I need to wait for the package again. Absolutely not. I asked them to turn off the signature required for the package in which they told me FedEx would have to send the package back to Canon in order for them to do that. So, I kept trying and trying to get through to FedEx. I got through to the first representative which they lied to me and told me that they will contact the driver directly and give them my phone number to contact me. I called FedEx again and the next representative clarified that I was lied to. I was livid. I asked them to transfer me to a manager, which I've never done before, and the manager called the drivers manager and forced them to turn around and actually deliver the package. All of this is to say, forcing people to turn on Signature Required is highly inconvenient, especially when you're using a crappy company like FedEx.

Best in Class
As a lightweight carry option to my R6II, I have no complaints at all. The image quality is fantastic. I have had comparable light carry cameras including A7c, X100v. The handling of the R8 is so much better. Lack of IBIS is a non issue as most of the less expensive RF lenses have IS.
I can’t speak to video as I'm a photographer only, and for photography at this price, it”s about as good as it gets.

1980s tech if 2024
A 2024 full frame costing $1500 with no IBIS? Deal breaker. Canon always has one major flaw with it's cameras.

Superb Camera
This is a superb camera. I use it for everything: serene nature and landscapes on day hikes, taking quick pics on the street while I’m traveling, fast action wildlife photography, even scanning film. I’ve even started doing some video work with it, which I wasn’t originally planning on - capturing 120fps video of hummingbirds visiting our feeder is just delightful.
I bought this as an upgrade to my RP, another wonderful camera that I just loved. Where the RP didn’t cut it for me was bird and wildlife photography: its autofocus, high ISO quality, and frame rates were just not up to the task. The R8 shares the same splendid tiny, light, ergonomic frame, and the small changes (moving the on/off switch, dedicated video/stills toggle) I quite like. The autofocus and high frame rate action shooting are everything I hoped they would be, especially with my RF 100-400, or my 800 f/11 for shooting sea life from the shore.
My one complaint is the mode dial is too overcrowded. Why are there so many automatic modes? There should only be ONE. I haven’t even figured out the difference between them, and won’t try to since I never use them anyway. Throw them out and give me a third custom mode like every other quality camera has, and you’d have a perfect product.
Sure, its battery life could be better, it could be super duper weather sealed, or IBIS would be nice. But I’d much rather walk around with this than the R6. It’s so wonderfully tiny and light, especially with the 28mm pancake lens, I can slip it in any jacket pocket and almost forget it’s there.

excellent camera at a great price
Bought this camera for a film project. It's my first "professional" camera (meaning, the first time I spent more than a hundred bucks!). So far, it has performed exceptionally. It is an excellent camera at a great price. I did a ton of research before I bought this camera, about the sort of features and specs I should look for in a camera, and this camera had almost everything I could have asked for. Full frame sensor, 4k UHD, good dynamic range, good bit depth, good chroma sampling. The only thing it doesn't have (that I wanted) was sensor-shift stabilization - it has digital stabilization. The settings menu is a bit overwhelming, but I'm sure I'll get used to it with time and practice. Couldn't be happier. Would definitely recommend to others.

Solid overall
Body is very plasticy, but overall solid. The LCD hinge and lock seems to lack a snappiness to it that other Canon bodies have. No real complaints, but would have liked a better F&F

Great Value - Lightweight Powerhouse
I bought the R8 using Canon's Upgrade program and was pleasantly surprised by how light and comfortable the R8 is while providing stellar image quality. The R8 having the same innards as the R6 Mark II makes it a lightweight alternative to the bigger full frame lineup that Canon has. I was concerned that the smaller size might be an issue coming from older Rebel DSLR's, but the grip on the R8 is actually deeper and much more comfortable than my old APS-C DSLR's.
I love that I'm able to utilize my older EF glass on this camera as well with the adapter. I've been able to pair this camera with my EF 50mm f/1.8 and my EF 24-105 f/4 L IS USM and it's been a great combination. I will say that having a larger lens such as the 24-105 I have can make it feel a little unbalanced, but the larger grip still feels comfortable in the hand. I recently purchased the RF 35mm prime lens so I'm hoping to try that as my ultimate lightweight setup soon.
The video on the R8 was a little concerning for me at first with the lack of IBIS, but with Canon's digital stabilization, I can get usable footage handheld usually with the regular stabilization. Enhanced can help too, but I felt it over corrected sometimes. Using an IS lens in conjunction with the digital stabilization makes the footage very stable, almost gimble-like, so video works out great on this camera. I also like that it has 4K 60FPS un-cropped, as most of my b-roll shots are filmed on this resolution and frame rate. I use the video mode all the time for work and my youtube channel and it works out perfectly for that.
The only knock I really have for the R8 is that the battery life is not great. It uses the LP-E17 battery which is too small in my opinion for a mirrorless camera. I would heavily recommend keeping at least one extra battery on you if you plan to shoot for the whole day. After about an hour and a half of photos with my 24-105 outside, I had gone through 50% of the battery.
Overall, I love the size and weight of the R8. It has really great image quality, being it borrows the sensor from the R6II, but it keeps the form factor of the RP. In a lot of ways, this camera could be considered the RP Mark II, and that's perfectly fine. I felt that this was a camera I was waiting for and it ticks pretty much every box for me. I definitely would recommend, especially if you can get it refurbished and with the upgrade program discount, it's a great camera and great value.

Great camera
Had the camera for a while now and have picked up several lenses along the way including one L lens. Best camera. Ive ever used (minus battery life - more on that in a minute). The ease of use and quality of the images this camera produces has been helping me develop my eye. Love everything about it.
Battery life could be better, say a full charge is about 200 images give or take, so if you use if for events, plan to buy a spare battery. For my uses its great I did a 5k for a fundraiser for my kids school and I barely made it through, but it was just good enough.

Natural upgrade to my RP
After using the RP for 80,000 shots, I upgraded to the R8 which improved most of the complaints I had with the RP without making the camera heavier. Accepting the same accessories is a plus but, I admit, the battery could be better.

R8 VS R7
There were things I loved about this camera, but I sent it back & got the R7. My specialty is flying birds, and this camera just wasn't as fast connecting with them as the R7 is. For wildlife that is sitting still, it works great! For general use, it is a wonderful camera & easy to use.

I’m very pleased with my Canon R8
I’m very happy with the flexibility of my refurbished canon R8 camera. Though, I have a lot to learn since I’ve been out of photography for about 20 years. I use it primarily to photograph people - I’m exceedingly happy with the fast, sharp focus and depth of field (now known as bokah ?????) that I’m getting using my new RF lenses (50mm 1.8 and 24-105mm 4-7.1) as well as old EF lenses (I mostly use the 100-300mm 3.5-6.3).

Game Changer
Game Changer. Extremely happy with my purchase. Going from a crop sensor to a full Frame has been something that I wanted for a long time and thanks to this entry level full frame affordable camera I was able to do so. Only thing I'm concerned about is during video in low light situations there is a black shadow caused perhaps by the lens but it was a very low light situation (Dark bathroom) excellent sharp quality photos, fast shutter speed and great tracking system.

Great Value. Perfect for travel.
I bought this camera refurbished a few months ago in order to get back into photography, and to have a lightweight compact full frame mirrorless camera with a viewfinder that is perfect for travel. I finally found it. The camera looked brand new when it arrived, which was nice. I used to own the Canon RP many years ago, so this camera was definitely familiar in how it felt in my hand. Where this camera excels however is that the sensor performs way better, especially for high dynamic range and low light shooting. This camera also has much faster autofocus in tricky lighting situations and the ability to do more things that involve computational photography, like stitching panoramas in camera. The camera body has the same compromises as the RP model, but for this price point, good luck finding a better value for the money. I've already taken thousands of photos with it and it's run flawlessly. Overall, I would highly recommend.

Canon R8 video is amazing!
Extremely happy with the video the camera produces. Does the camera overheat? Yes but only in 4k 60 from my experience with it. My workflow allows me to operate it without it shutting down. Most of my shooting is 4k24 and I’ll switch to 4k60 on the shots that I need. If your planning on only shooting 4k60 this camera is not for you. Shooting at only 4k60 you’ll get about 4 to 5 3 min clips before your at the first red overheating bar, once it hits the third red bar it shuts down. Video quality looks great tho. Very happy with the purchase. Was a little skeptical about buying refurbished but it came in excellent condition. No scuffs or scratches.
