Rated 5 out of 5 by from Blown away. Buy one! I started my transition from DSLRs to mirrorless last summer (2024) with the purchase of an R5 and the RF 28-70mm F2 L. The huge leap mirrorless represents blew me away. Then the R5 Mark II came out. So many additional features and capabilities! I almost immediately sold the R5 (while unloading the 2 5D Mark IVs) and bought 2 R5 Mark IIs. I have since replaced all of my EF glass with the superior RF lenses. I have only good things to say about these cameras and their accessories. It's reinvigorated my passion for shooting. And made my video skills much better.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Detailed Commentary on My Experience Using the R5 MKII versus the R5. I own both an R5 and R5 MKII. The R5MK has more neutral colors. The high ISO complaints are really overblown. I’ve used the MKII at ISO 12,800 and have gotten excellent results, with minimal noise, good detail, and good color and contrast, by running the raw files through DxO PureRaw 5, or even Photoshop Elements. Also, the in camera jpgs at ISO 12,800 look great. So the camera gives results that are very usable, at least up to ISO 12,800. Better results than I got from the original R5, after processing. I don’t think most people want to go higher than 12,800, unless they have no choice. The need to do so really isn’t frequent. I got a lot of error messages, when I got the camera, when it first came out, and the camera would freeze, necessitating the removal of the battery (batteries). That was fixed by firmware 1.02. Firmware 1.03 really messed up the autofocus tracking, seemingly fixed by firmware 1.1. I lament the loss of the dual pixel focus adjustment ability and pixel-shift. Not used often, but nice to have. I would have liked a larger buffer, though that can be addressed by shooting in C-Raw , with which I have not noticed a significant drop off in quality, for most situations. You get the added benefit of smaller files, which saves storage space. The pre-capture is now better (you can now designate the number of frames saved, but it would be nice to also have an adjustable time range for pre-capture, going above and below a half second (maybe in quarter second intervals from 1/4 to 1 second, or maybe even eighth of a second intervals. I doubt that many people would use 1/8 second, but they would use 3/8, 5/8ths, etc.). Since they remedied the focusing issues caused by firmware update 1.03, the eye tracking is phenomenal (actually better than you think it is when shooting through the viewfinder), and better than the original R5, which remains extremely good and reliable. The MKII also allows the use of the electronic shutter, for flash photography, and has a much wider range of shutter speeds for which the electronic shutter is usable generally. I wish they had put a stereo microphone into the R5 MKII, as well as over sampled 4K 60 fos. Hopefully the over sampled 4K 60 will come in a firmware update. Including Canon Log 2 in the MKII is also provides a great improvement in dynamic range and ease of adjustment, over the Canon Log 3, in the original R5.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from If you're on the fence and need a serious tool... Just do it and take the leap on getting this. I couldn't have imagined this was such an improvement over my EOS R, that I have been happy with for many years for still images. I needed the video upgrades that the R5 line has, but have realized how much of an improvement the still imaging is on this. Not to mention the speed and silence this thing operates under. I am so glad I went with the Mark II over the original R5, the extra money has been well worth it so far.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent All Around Body, tracking for wildlife and commercial work! I received my body to add to the R-5 and R that I had used for some time. I was unsure if the improvements were enough to warrant the cost. I had it a couple weeks before a project and did some trial shooting and setup. I really liked the improvements to the focus that follows your eye it works well. Much better than a rental R-3 I used for a project a couple years ago. The focus was good keeping a redtail hawk in focus between trees and on models in motion so I was willing to use it for a local project. It performed very well and no issues. I decided it would be the primary body for a safari trip to Tanzania and Rwanda, it was super keeping animals in tight focus even in the grass. Having the R-5 there I could compare, and it was worth the $$. Short video was great on the 70-200 especially Gorillas. Excellent lion and leopard shots in difficult locations with 100-500 and 1.4x. Stabilization with both lenses helped when in the back of a Land Cruiser. It even performed well with a little hesitation in focus on a night game drive with only limited artificial light and moonlight. I could not have been more pleased.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Canon R5 MARK II It’s a big difference upgrading from 5D MK IV TO R5 MK II for me. With the sophisticated AF system, I was able to capture lots of images in sharp focus that I was unable to do with my old camera. I have always wondered how others were able to capture so many incredible shots with an incredible timing. Now I know.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful! I bought this camera when it first came out and have no complains. It takes amazing pictures and has a lot of useful features. I haven't worked with an R1 or R3 so I can't compare it to that but for a high tier camera it meets my expectations.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Price Drop Camera was shipped within a few days of the order. Only complaint is they dropped the price thr next morning and it took a few weeks to get a credit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great camera I've had this camera for 8 months and the picture quality is absurd. I've very happy with this product. The camera did freeze on me several times and one time I lost the entire clip I was filming but the problem hasn't happened for 4-5 months now. The camera performs very well. This camera can overheat in hot temperatures while shooting high volume. But it is quick at cooling down if you keep it out of direct sunlight and turn it off every once and awhile.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very capable but Many settings to be made There is a very capable camera for both stills and video, but there are innumerable settings to be made before going into the field. I'll see how long the time window is to reach a configuration that I am confident with. Seems like Canon could simplify this process, and then the user could build from there.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Vastly improved camera for fast action photography. Extremely fast and accurate autofocus. Excellent for sports and wildlife photography. Compared to my R5, the focusing locks on and tracks moving subjects better. The pre shooting ( precapture ) is game changing for sports and fast moving wildlife. I’m using firmware 1.0.3 and so far, I’ve seen no concerns. If you have an R5 and primarily shoot weddings, product photography or landscapes, the R5 and R5ii are pretty comparable. If you shoot sports or fast moving wildlife, the R5ii is far more capable. I do hope a new firmware update will allow rapid turn on/turn off of preshooting via a back button.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very nice upgrade from the R5 and R6ii I've owned an R6ii, an R5 and now an R5ii since April 2025. In my view, the R5ii is far superior to the R6ii and R5 when it comes to action photography. It simply acquires focus faster especially on smaller objects such as song birds, tracks and sticks to moving subjects more reliability, reduces rolling shutter to a level that seldom needs the mechanical shutter to be used and the preshooting capability allows the reliable capture of initial action such as a bird taking off. The original R5 and R6ii are great for wedding, portrait and landscape work but the R5ii is much better at tackling fast action photography. The video of the R5ii is much better as well as it supports Clog2 and additional video options without the 30 minute recording limit of the original R5.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Too much compromises Very disappointed with the R5 Mark II. A 5000$ camera cannot have that kind of ISO noise. For acceptable image quality, you can’t go above ISO 2000 — otherwise, you have to compromise with denoising and everything that comes with it, namely loss of detail (information) and consequently a general drop in quality, which is unacceptable at this price point. I understand the use of a stacked sensor to eliminate rolling shutter, but not at this qualitative cost. My workflow has become much heavier: I now have to first ‘clean’ the files with DxO AI denoising, then export to DNG, and only after that can I send them to Capture One or Lightroom. Either way, that beautiful starting file is simply gone. On the feature side, I do appreciate the progress made with the electronic/silent shutter, with (almost) no quality loss. I also appreciate the video capabilities with full sensor readout. As for Eye AF, I find it useless for people wearing glasses — it’s too inaccurate despite several calibrations

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not worth it for a top of the line camera Focusing lets you down at critical moments. Despite all conditions and settings being right. You can only get half of photos in focus. ISO noise increases rapidly for a top of the line camera. There is som clunking sound when you turn gently from landscape to portrait mode. This happens intermittently. Is this the way it was designed or is it a lemon?
