Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful images but impossible to connect to WIFI I bought this camera direct from Canon and it was for close up macro use . I did have a Canon dedicated lens for this . The one feature which I bought it for was the WIFI ability it was supposed to have . I tried in vain to connect it , viewed all the videos , followed all the instructions and no ability to connect to my pc , printer . I went to a Canon dealer locally , he could not do it . I called tech support they were unable to help me either . I am very frustrated as the very function that led me to by this is impossible to use . I am going to trade it in for another brand which is much more user friendly . When a dealer cant make the thing work the message should be make it SIMPLE ...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Camera I have been a Canon fan since high school days too many years ago. I replaced my T5i with this camera and could not have been happier. I have owned and used this camera for over a year taking it on many trips to photograph nature, mainly wild birds. I have never been disappointed with any of the pictures I have shot with this camera. Auto focus is fast and perfect all the time. I hardly ever shoot in the auto or "P" mode but usally set my ISO and shutter speed depending on the cirucumstances and have always had great pictures. The touch screen for changing settings rapidly is great and the ability to check and change settings by looking at the screen on the top right of the camera while shooting is fantastic. Over all this is the best camera I have owned.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 80D, New Me I bought this camera a few weeks ago and it was such a relief to have a camera that shot so smoothly. I originally had a Rebel t5i and it was nice but I disliked how slow it was. This is such a change. I can now take better commercial level photos with half of the worry.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great photos but problem with mic jack I've had this camera for about a week. The photos are great. It's a definite upgrade over my 70D, which I also love. My only complaint is a problem with the connection with the microphone jack. It doesn't always connect and is temperamental when it does.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Poor performance I used this as my second Canon 80D for video for the first few weeks so didn’t notice that focus is completely blurred when using the viewfinder for photos. Pictures are in focus but I cannot tell what will be in focus in real time until I review the picture. Now the camera is past the 14-day return and I’m stuck with it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Start I am an amateur wildlife photographer and this is a Great entry level camera! I got some sharp images and with a fair amount of megapixels. The flip out screen can be useful too. The mechanics of using this camera has also prepared me for using more advanced camera equipment. Overall it was great for its value!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Water resistant questionable I bought this for it was considered to be water proof although threw further uncovering I noticed there is no warrenty for water damage so please let us know if this camera is water sealed or if we should take caution when using with moisture. I film in wet conditions as well as snow and I’m a little skeptical to try it out in such conditions due to the lack of such labeling in instruction Manuel.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Refurbished, looked new... Received this 3 days ago from Canon. There was not a blimish. If it had been sent in the original packaging, I would have thought the camera was new. I borrowed a 19 yo Digital Rebel (D300 from my daughter to play around with and stayed frustrated, “6 megapixal/1600iso and a nifty fifty lense”. Spent hours in youtube trying to figure out how to improve. Came to the conclusion it was more camera limitation than me. I then started searching for the best camera Canon offered in the intermediate enthusiast range, even though I am a definite beginner. One month ago I would have been in auto mode the whole time. The 80D is beyond amazing. It is feature rich and does not require a major learning curve to figure out how to use the features available. The 3 features I love the most are Servo, Auto ISO, and the touch screen. I am beyond satisfied with this camera, I still think they made a error and sent a new camera.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Camera I purchased this 80D as a replacement from a 30D which had served me well. I was not disapointed, as this camera is fantastic with the auto focus. in running several hundred test shots outdoors, indoors both with and without flash and I have been amazed at the clearity of the shots. Just a great camera.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A+ The 80D is a fantastic, well rounded, and versatile camera. Even in a time when technology is leading camera manufactures to a future of mirrorless cameras with electronic viewfinders (EVF, this DSLR is an excellent choice for enthusiast. Mirrorless cameras are without a doubt the future of digital photography, and even though there are already excellent products out, that future is still being developed. In the meantime, this tested technology continues to prove it is an excellent way of getting excellent images—and the 80D is an great example of that. I highly recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Learn it! I have used this camera for over a year now. I absolutely love it. Once you learn all the ISO speeds and functions, it's a fantastic camera. We upgraded to the Mark 6D II; but we still use this camera for all of our weddings. We have not had any issues with this camera and have had it for 2 years and going strong.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This camera is a workhorse! I've had this camera for about 6months now, I upgraded from the t3i which I shot on for about 5 years. I couldn't be happier with my decision! The autofocus during video is almost always spot on. I didn't think I would care about a touch screen, but now that I have it, I don't think I could go without. My go to set up is pairing this with the Sigma 18-35 1.8 (sorry not a Canon product, but a beast of a lens). I just shot a wedding almost exclusively with this set up and the results were great. I also use the canon battery grip and like the added weight for video. The battery life with the grip and double battery packs is really good. I can shoot all day and still have plenty of battery power left. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for an all around monster camera.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Oh my! It was time to replace my T2. Bought this (refurbished) direct from Canon. I was looking at the 6D (full frame) as well. After reading all the specs, despite the APSC sensor, this coming in cheaper was clearly the better value. The two biggest sells in my case were the faster burst rate and the many, many more point AF system. The basic (ISO, F-stop, Shutter speed) were pretty easy to locate and manipulate on the fly. Because of the jump from my previous model, the learning curve on the rest of this feature rich camera was pretty steep. The more I use the camera, the more features I learn. The more features I learn, the more I want to use the camera. It's a vicious cycle! In short, my budget led me here: Again, I was looking for a full frame sensor, and if cost hadn't been a factor I'd have gone with one of Canon's higher end professional models. The EOS 80D, while not having a full frame sensor, has a LOT more bang for the buck, came in cheaper than the cheapest full frame camera, and quite frankly I haven't given the sensor size a second thought!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Camera! Would Definitely Recommend! This camera is amazing, I just recently bought it a little over a year ago. I have always been into photography since I was a little kid, and started with the Bridge Powershot cameras. Finally, wanting to bring my photography game up to the next level, I bought this. I primarily use the lenses in the lens kit I bought, and barely use manual focus. However, the 45 point auto focus on this camera is AMAZING, its extremely quick, and quiet. The quiet feature was a definite choice when I was choosing a camera, as shooting on the go, with no secondary audio system, happens to me quite often. I also have to say that the onboard microphone on this camera is absolutely amazing compared to any other camera I've had. Although it can get a little overwhelming in loud, busy areas, it handles very well in quiet areas, such as neighborhoods. The LCD screen also has a stunning quality, with deep, dark, vibrant, rich colors. This really makes viewing pictures on the go easy, and promising. As with many cameras I have had haven't had this, almost desktop quality LCD screen. I feel like I'm stretching it a little here, but I have to complement the person who made the insanely accurate auto+ mode. This has been extremely useful for me when I don't have time to get all the settings right in manual, usually when photographing wildlife. Overall I think this is a great camera, and would definitely recommend buying it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent for beginners The Canon 80D is a great camera for beginners or enthusiasts. With its decent frame rate of 7fps it's decent for high speed photography yet at $1,099.99 it doesn't console rely bust your budget. It's very durable and it's water resistance comes in handy. It's autofocus is top of the line and is incredibly fast and smooth. With this camera I won't need to upgrade anytime soon as it has a very nice highest resolution of 6000x4000. Would recommend this to anyone of any level, it has great versatility for those who would like to be casual photographers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Camera I recently bought this camera and just spent 6 hours using it at an event. Love it! Paired it with the Sigma 18-300 mm. Such a huge step up from my Nikon D3100. Love the display feature where I can actually see the quality of my photos immediately. My only qualm is that it sometimes focuses on the wrong subject in low light, but I knew it would do that when I bought it. Highly recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from top notch features with not great sharpness This camera is a pleasure to use... lots of focus points, touch screen, touch focus, fully articulated screen, and not too big or too heavy to carry around. The 80D pictures seem to have a wonderful colour quality to them, better than my 60D which I was wanting to replace. However I just couldn't get really sharp images with any of my 4 lenses on the 80D. My 60D came out sharper in all of my 150 test shots using the same lenses, tripod, and subjects. I suppose if very sharp images are not important to you, then you could be very happy with the 80D. I returned my 80D to the store, and I'm waiting for Canon to provide a similar camera except with sharp images. I would buy the 80D again if an upgrade was made to the image sharpness.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from After Upgrade to Upgrade, THIS Will Be The One My first DSLR was a Rebel SL1. It was good, but I "outgrew" it after a few months. The autofocus wasn't nearly fast enough, images weren't as sharp as they could be, it was too small, it lacked a flip screen, and it didn't have the advanced features like one such as the 80D had. My next DSLR was the Rebel T6i. At the time of purchase, I came extremely close to purchasing the 70D, but I figured why should I? I would be paying more money for the same camera with a couple of extra bells and whistles in a bigger body. The T6i satisfied me for a year, before I then "outgrew" that one. Autofocus was fast, but not fast enough, and noise performance could've been better. When I first held the 80D, about a month or so before considering the purchase, I was astounded by its weight, but fell in love with all the features. 1080p at 60FPS really pleased me, as did the 7 FPS shooting, built-in time lapse, and insane autofocus. The one thing I was worried about was the size and weight of the camera. But honestly, this thing fits nicely in my hand and fits like a glove. As far as weight, the camera is NOT that heavy. (Noticeably lighter than the 70D, as far as I can remember. A relative currently owns a 70D) What makes up the majority of the weight is the 18-135 USM lens, which, may I add is spectacular! The speed and sharpness of the lens is unbeatable! Worth every penny! Also, build quality is perfect. Of course, the build quality of this camera is perfect as well. I am starting a YouTube channel and hope that it takes off within the near future. I need all necessary gear to create the best videos possible. Many videos nowadays are uploaded at 1080p 60fps. Canon was late to install these features on their DSLRs, and I am happy they finally did, as now my videos will be buttery smooth. You may have noticed that video has been brought up a lot. That's why I need the autofocus I can rely on and flip screen. For blogging, I no longer even need to look into the screen with concern that I may not be in focus. I now FINALLY have an AF system I can rely on. One other video shooting feature that I am ecstatic to see is a built in headphone jack! I can now hear whatever I am recording! Every picture and video taken with this camera looks professional. If you are starting from the bottom, you may want to consider a T6i. It is an amazing camera. However, if you are already skilled and have some experience, this camera will exceed your necessities.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good but not much different from 70D 80D is a great camera, but has focusing issues with its new lens. Not as sharp as 70D. Perhaps too many focus points are the reason. Did not like spot focus option in manual setting either. New battery is good, but not great. Flash recycling takes a while after it is half down. Canon needs to improve the camera connect app. It connects only if we have a wi fi connection and is very confusing and not simple to use. They should also provide direct connection with a mobile device There are other minor issues as well. I still prefer 70D.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well worth the savings. I purchased this camera refurbished from Canon USA two months ago to upgrade from a 60D. All my photos were significantly out of focus. I sent it back to canon under the 1-year warranty. The CMOS sensor was found to be out of adjustment. The camera was quickly re-adjusted to specs and returned to me. It is now taking great photos. Any camera, new or refurbished, can have factory defects. Canon went out of its way to correct the problem quickly and efficiently.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good basic camera - one horrible flaw I have enjoyed this camera but will be giving it away and looking for something with a better firmware design. It takes about 7 clicks to do anything EXCEPT format your SD card and lose an entire trip’s Work... Regrettably, that takes just one light, accidental press and goodbye everything. That’s the product of having non-photographers design firmware.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best "all-around" camera I did a lot of research before I bought my 80D. I been serious about photography for forty-five years. I consider myself a committed enthusiast who mostly shoots outdoor photography, but I also shoot candid portraits, still life, street, and architecture. I even shoot some video. The camera I bought had to be able to do a lot. I looked at the 7DII, which is a great, but ageing, machine, and considered used full-frames like the 5DII but the 80D had the best, and most current, mix of features for what I do—and it makes use of my EF-s lenses. It also fit my price point. I have used it every weekend in the six weeks that I have owned it. It's a great camera. The "crop sensor" makes sense for the amount of telephoto work I do. The resolution and the dynamic range on the 80D is excellent. Seven frames per second and decent buffering are a great asset to bird photography. The array and number of cross-type focus points (45, and the ease of adjusting them "on the fly" is great. There are many options and it can take some practice, but I do not understand the comment about poor auto focus—my experience is that 80D is very flexible, responsive, and highly accurate in this regard. It is larger and heavier than the Rebels, but it balances nicely with my 70-300mm zoom. That said, I don't have any trouble with my 10-22mm, either, which is quite light. It feels comfortable in my hand. I may pick up an SL2 and a lightweight mid-range zoom in the future for longer hikes, though. The 80D is my third refurbished camera from Canon (an SL1 and a t4i were the others, which I no longer have) along with four refurbished lens; they have all been excellent and have never given me a problem. The one-year warranty makes them even more of a "no-brainer" for my frequent, but not professionally punishing use. Unless you have a specific need for a full-frame camera, the 80D does a lot of different things very well for a very reasonable price. Highly recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Upgrade Features for Backup I bought his camera as a backup to my full frame 6D. It replaced my 60D which I really was happy with. The 80D has many of the features that were good on the 60D including tilt LCD screen which my 6D does not have. It shoots at 7 fps and is my go to camera for fast action aviation and sports action. My 6D I use for landscapes and primarily stays on my tripod. I like the video HD recording, wifi (which I have only been able to connect to my iPhone) and dual pixel sensor response. This is a fantastic camera and even think it compares favoriably to the 7D mark II other than a slightly slower burst rate capability.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Upgrade I was up in the mountains of East Tennessee for a family vacation and on the second day my Canon 60D started displaying error codes and then failed completely. Been using it for 5 years and it has received a lot of hard knocks. I've been looking at the 80D for a while as a possible upgrade so drove to the top of the mountain ridge where I could get a cell signal and ordered one from Amazon next day delivery. The family does a lot of skiing & wakeboarding and the new camera captured some unbelievable action shots (of course I'm using quality stabilized Canon lens.) Very happy with my decision to purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic metering and focusing I purchased the EOS 80D to replace my EOS 70D, in August 2016, for a "trip of a lifetime" to Vietnam, Hong Kong, Macau and China, in September 2016. I was extremely pleased. While I liked my EOS 70D, I love my new EOS 80D, particulaly for the much improved focusing and metering. I use a Canon 18-200mm and a Canon 10-18mm. I would recommend the EOS 80D without hesitation.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Good Performance looks better at the price. I've had the 80D for a couple of months, limited opportunity at first to use it, when I caught up with it, I was impressed overall handling, quick solid focus and crystal clear images. It has some collections from the past and now to contend with. Having read some of the reviews, I've run a fair amount of frames through using a fair number of my extensive collection of Canon lenses and some of the other non-Canon, native mount and adapters.. Focus is dead on - including my German Shepherds running in every direction including dead one. It works well with the Sony Bigma (50-500mm. The reason I own this camera is as a lightweight sidekick, even fill in for my 5D-IV, my fourth of the 5D series and every one has gotten better. The 5D-IV has now replaced my 5D-III. I'll save a comment on that for elsewhere but it's great. I've started using lighter weight mirrorless cameras. I've found the Sony A7R first rate for quality of image at 36 MP FF on things like landscapes and lack of heft. I found the NEX 7 with a 24 mp sensor to be very cool and allows me too adapt some weird images. I don't however, really care for EVTs or the risk of EVT collapse at bad moment. It happened to my unabused A7R and I was forced to rely on the Next 7. I find this a really fine backup - and I wouldn't have any problem with it as a primary. On the other hand, I've been shooting for nearly 60 years. I've used Canons now for a couple of decades as primary, after other uses earlier.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from In a world full of Sony, this is a gem Let me first state that this is a FANTASTIC camera for YouTube, vlogging more specifically. The loss of 4K is made up by incredibly accurate autofocus during video. I mainly shoot video, but it is also a beast in the sense of photography. I have two 80Ds in my house. The weather sealing is also important to me, and it works. The traditional Canon interface makes it easy for almost anyone to learn their way around it. The prices on lenses also make it easy to gravitate to Canon naturally anyway. I also own a Canon G7X Mark II, as well as a GoPro Hero 5 Black, but the amazing quality of the 80D makes me forget about the weight when vlogging, compared to the G7X's nearly weightless body of 11oz. All of the Manual controls and freedom to customize your camera is amazing, whatever your styles may be with the 80D you can make it your own camera. Also, the touch and articulating screen. This is GOLDEN if you're vlogging. You need this feature 100%. Finally, battery life is really good on this camera. After a full day of shooting and reviewing media in playback, I only go through 1 1/2 to 2 batteries. Say goodbye to buying 5 Sony batteries! If you buy this product and you give it a shot, I guarantee that you will love it. Whether it's the autofocus, 1080p60 slow-mo, burst rate of 7fps, or manual options, you're going to love it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Huge Upgrade I got the Canon Eos 80D last week, and it is "A Huge Upgrade". My first DSLR was a Canon Eos Rebel T3i and the frame shots couldn't keep up with the sporting events that I was photographing. This is upgrade that will last me the next eight years, and probably more.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from After Micro adjusting Leach Lens..Fast and Perfect I have had the Camera for about a year. At first I was disappointed with the focus. Then I discovered Micro-Adjustment. I bought a SPyderLensCal and spent a day adjusting each lens. Takes patience and time but the result is astounding. The Camera is fast and doesn't hunt for focus. I like the fact that it will take EFS and EF lenses so I don't have to worry about which lens format I purchase. L-Lenses perform GREAT on this Body. I have attached a photo of fall leaves I think shows the cameras ability to faithfully reproduce color and deal with multiple focus points. I did have to downsize the photo to meet this sites standard so there is some loss in the image. I use Paint Shop Pro 20. This was taken hand held Canon EF 24-105mm 1:4L IS II USM Lens ISO 640 AV-Priority, f8, 1/32 shutter focal length 24mm. Auto Exposure Metering Type: Pattern. Image Stabilization: ON The image was not manipulated in any way other than downsized. I could have mounted the 80D on my SLIK 400D Tripod. Taken some time, use mirror lockup, a remote release and so on and the photo would have been better no doubt. However, You don't always have the time for that and I think this shows what can be done by just pointing up and shooting. This shows the capability of the camera. The photo of the tomato was taken hand held with an EF 70-200mm f4L USM ISO 160 f7.1 1/256 shutter metering mode: Spot Focal Length: 200mm. This lens does not have Image stabilization. It is one of my older L glass Lenses. But Color rendition and bokeh are spot on. Some people don't like the articulating screen....However it does allow you to turn the screen toward the camera body when not in use and keep it from being damaged...big plus. All in all, this is a great camera to have even as a pro for a backup. (this is why I like EF and EF-S Lens capability) The camera will do a lot. There is a lot of menus to learn and adjustments to be made. However once learned it is a powerful photographer tool. That being said it may be a bit much for an armature or beginner. (which is why I think there are some unfair reviews about focus capabilities...just not knowing how to operate the camera) I have been using Canon equipment since 1976. This is by far the most capable and versatile piece of equipment I have owned. When paired with a 600EX II-RT Speedlite it is a fantastic portrait camera. My intention is to move to a EOS 50DS after I retire and make photography my full time profession, but this will always be my go to back up for digital photography. I still have and Use some of my original 35mm Canon Cameras. They are rock solid tough. I expect no less from this piece of equipment.

I bought it 6 months ago and I am very happy with the performance of the functions for which I decided to buy it, it's because I wanted to have a good photography camera and I could shoot video too, but the video I passed with 100 points . And the timelapse functions is great. Thanks Canon for this camera.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Camera Freeze Just bought 80D yesterday, and today it started freezing up on me. LCD screen just froze whatever was on at the time, and no other functions would work and couldn't turn it off, had to remove battery, reinsert and start over again, and soon it would happen again. Went to Canon site to see if there was a firmware update, but nothing showed up for that camera. This is the first Canon I've been disappointed in.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Another solidly reliable Canon product All I can say to those who are having problems getting this unit to produce clearly focused images is you aren't using the camera correctly. Read the owners manual carefully and then do extensive test shooting until you figure it out. It took me about 3-4 shots but I know what I'm doing with a camera.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Slow, inaccurate auto-focus since new This camera replaced my SL1 that stopped working and was too expensive to repair. Given the cost of repair was so high, I decided it made sense to upgrade as I'd been happy with the SL1 (aside, perhaps, with respect to its longevity). The 80D, however, has been a huge disappointment. Since new, it has had trouble with auto-focus, in multiple modes, using different lenses (I only upgraded and stayed with Canon as I am vested in their lenses). I now have 8 months of sub-par photos, even had an expensive lens repaired thinking that was the issue. I'd upload photos, but I use this mostly for taking pics of my family and the kids' sport events, so I won't. But as I quickly perused photos I have, I feel terrible about what a bad job this camera has done since I have owned it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent camera. I got this for Christmas as an upgrade from my Rebel T5 and it is awesome. So much quieter shooting, faster start up from off, the battery has lasted several days so far (my Rebel battery definitely wouldn't. I got it with the new 18-135mm lens and I love the lens also. The bokeh is smooth, it is sharp, smooth manual focus. I have yet to test out my other lenses so far because I'm still getting used to this new lens and I'm thoroughly enjoying using it. I also like being able to use the camera connect app to transfer pictures to my phone. I just wish I could choose too save to my SD card rather than the device.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Can't live without DPAF! Really like this camera. I've used many Canon bodies and I must say that the images from this camera keep surprising me. Take a look at Photons to Photos for Dynamic range measurements and you'll see that at ISOs up to 250 it ranks among the highest of Canon's offerings, outperforming the 5D III, 6D, 6D II and others. With dual pixel focusing and the articulating LCD, this camera makes a great all-around performer for both video and stills. With DPAF I use the video function often now (never could focus with any accuracy recording video of moving subjects on my 5D III). I use the integrated flash often for convenient fill and family pics. My favorite lenses for this camera are the 24-70 2.8 II and 35 f/2 IS. You can't go wrong with this combination for portability, versatility, and can really take some seriously high quality images in RAW or JPEG. JPEGs have nice color and really shine with minor editing. Wish my new 5D IV had an integrated flash and the articulating LCD. For those reasons, I often take my 80D out of convenience, knowing that I can still produce outstanding images.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best bang for the buck camera from Canon's lineup This thing has every feature that a hobbyist such as myself needs (although I don't do much with video so the lack of 4k isn't an issue for me). My refurbished copy had less than 10 shutter actuation's when I received it, so basically a brand new camera (or maybe it was brand new as I played with it for a few minutes before checking). The Burst mode is lightning fast and has a generous buffer size. For my wildlife photography I am very pleased with the touch auto-focus and have recommended it to multiple friends.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ideal for travel and YouTubers! The 80D is an update of the 70D, building on the prior model with tweaked Movie Servo, 45-point AF, 100% coverage optical viewfinder and a new 24.2MP Dual Pixel sensor. CONSTRUCTION: At first glance, the 80D is a near twin of the 70D. However, it feels slightly lighter and the deep finger groove and textured rubber grip make it a little easier to hold on to. It has the same vivid 3.0" 1,040,000 dot swiveling touchscreen LCD as the 70D, albeit more smudge resistant. Touch sensitivity is adjustable and noticeably better than my iPhone 5s. The shutter is quiet for a DSLR and silent drive mode can reduce it to pianissimo, making it ideal for stage and ceremonies. THE VIEWFINDER is bright and vivid. Plus, the 100% coverage and .95x magnification are slight improvements over 70D coverage. The transmissive LCD display--transparent LCD over the focusing screen--displays icons, AF and metering patterns, grid and plain matte screens and an electronic level. CONTROLS: The menu interface is cleaner and less crowded than the 70D: five icons (reduced from the 70D's fifteen) and organized by category. However, each menu has two to six submenus. You can create a personal menu of your favorite settings for quick access. Buttons and wheels feel sturdy and may be used while looking through the viewfinder. The 80D lacks a joystick, flash exposure compensation (FEC) button and white balance (WB) button. Dropping camera from eye and visiting the touchscreen may cost you a shot. Fortunately, most button functions can be customized, and FEC may be assigned to the SET button (scale in the viewfinder), allowing FEC while looking through the viewfinder. Exposure modes are set with a topside knurled dial. Two Custom (C) modes are included to save your favorite drive, exposure and image quality settings. If you've owned a prior EOS model the interface is similar and you will barely need to crack the manual. AUTOFOCUS: The 45-point cross type AF array is blazing fast and covers a larger percentage of the frame than the 70D’s 19-point array. It's also more sure-footed in low light than the 70D. The 80D has the same AF modes as the 70D—single-point AF (manual selection), zone AF (manual selection of zone) and 45-point automatic selection AF—plus a fourth mode, large zone AF (manual selection of zone). I normally manually select an AF point or zone where I want it to focus. Cameras aren't smart enough to know if you want a tree, rock or cloud in focus. The 80D has another new AF mode: AI Servo in LiveView. Tap the subject on the touchscreen, half-press the shutter button and it does a great job of tracking the subject across the screen. This mode drains power faster than normal AI servo but handy for low level shooting of critters or kids rolling around. IMAGES show pleasing detail, color rendition and excellent noise control. I didn't notice significant improvement over the 70D until I zoomed in and pulled the shadow slider in DPP: a reduction in shadow noise at both low and high ISO. In other words, shadows may be brightened more in post than the 70D. The blue channel also has better noise control than the 70D, so cleaner skies and water! VIDEO: HD video quality is excellent: fewer moire artifacts, cleaner in low light and smoother and more film-like compared to 70D files. I’m disappointed 4K HD wasn’t included. However, 1080P is fine for YouTube since audiences mainly watch on phone and notebook screens. Movie servo is faster than the 70D and less prone to “hunting” in low light. Focus-pulls are a snap with the touch screen. Movie servo with face recognition works great, allowing me to both shoot and perform in video clips. FINAL BURB: The 80D is a nimble and capable instrument, and a significant upgrade over the 70D in terms of AF, resolution and control of shadow noise. The bottom line is the many small improvements add up to an enjoyable experience and excellent images and videos.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Much improved over my 70D! So, I loved my 70D MOST of the time. Frankly, it didn't always focus properly when I just wanted to use it for point and shoot type events. The 70D almost kept me from the 80D, but I thought I'd give it a chance. Glad I did, it's very nice for a prosumer piece and for an all around photo/video camera you can't go wrong. Canon please reach out to me so we can fix the 70D! I've stayed loyal.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great camera but still learning features I have been using a Canon EF up until 4 years ago. I have a few Canon SX Models so this is my first digital SLR. The rich features and the set of lenses that came with the kit made a great starting point. I used the camera coupled with a Cadioptric lens to photograph the eclipse and it worked like a charm. 39 years ago my EF and I went to N Dakota in February to photograph that eclipse so this was a logical progression to this modern camera. I love the heft and stability that it brings added to the IS function within the lens makes the pictures that much sharper. I am still learning the features but loving every minute of it.

Cons: - Low dynamic range - A lot of hot pixels (20+) on long exposures - For some reason with 40mm pancake have to set focus to -7. But it is ok in Live view mode. Other 3 lens I own are more less OK. - No 4k or at least 120 frames video.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for video! I have been shooting video (and stills) with my 5D3, 70D and now the 80D. Coupled with the 18-135 Nano lens and the PZ-E1 zoom this camera can do just about anything. Add the new Canon mike on the hot shoe and away you go! Seriously folks, this is a winning combination. I have over 400 videos on YouTube shot with the 80D and most all are of music in dark night clubs at ISO6400. They look great! I recently bought a C100 and that is a big step up, but the 80D is a wonderful just do-it-all camera. Really can't say enough other than 'buy it and you will love it'. Happy shooting!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Focus Issues I loved my 70d, so when i came time to replace.. I bought and 80d. I couldn't get it to focus, regardless of what lenses were used or if I shot in viewfinder or live view modes. So I returned it for a replacement 80d. Same problem. Would not focus sharply. So I returned it for yet another replacement. Same Exact Problem. So I sent the third 80d to Canon, along with two new Canon Lenses (EFS 10-22 and EFS 18-200) and asked them to make the necessary adjustments so it would shoot perfectly. The camera came back and STILL DOES NOT FOCUS sharply. In direct comparison to my 70d, same lenses, same settings, same tripod ... even my wife can clearly see the difference in sharpness and agrees that it is JUST NOT ABLE TO FOCUS properly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Has everything I want, but... This is my 4th Canon DSLR, and it is a wonderful value for its features & quality. The rotating touch screen, built-in WiFi, autofocus in video, and better dynamic range convinced me to upgrade from my aging 7D. As my title says, it has everything I want, but one BIG thing almost makes this wonderful camera a deal-breaker. And that is the lack of a joystick. Please Canon...you make incredible cameras, but why in the world did you remove the joystick starting back with the 60D? It is such a natural way to select the auto-focus point, and after owning Canon DSLRs for 10+ years, my thumb's muscle memory is suffering terribly now. I keep thinking I will be able to learn to efficiently use the new multi-directional pad, but just the other day I had to quickly change the autofocus point while holding the camera vertically in portrait mode, and I completely missed the shot because my thumb was searching for the very ill-placed multi-directional pad. If you've never used the joystick then you will love this camera. If you're like me, then this might just be its demise. I hope I can overcome it. The 7D mk2 has the joystick, but of course lacks the rotating touch screen & wifi. I got a wonderful low-to-the-ground shot of my son the other day using the rotating touch screen in a setting that I wouldn't have laid down on the ground for. So I'm stuck in a conundrum as to did I pick the right body. I'm not a sports shooter, but tracking my running toddler without a joystick is proving to be incredibly difficult.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Intermediate-Level DSLR This was the first camera I bought to get me into photography. I already knew quite a bit about the rules of photography and my iPhone 7 imaging capabilities were far above average. I had some money saved, so I decided to buy the EOS 80D to begin my imaging hobby. I couldn't have picked a better choice for a first digital camera. Although this is an intermediate camera, it has pro-level features. And even as an intermediate camera with pro-level features, it is SO INCREDIBLY EASY for someone who's never used a DSLR before to learn the camera functions and capabilities! Image quality - 10/10 User-friendliness - 10/10 Durability/feel - 10/10 Touch & articulating screen - 10/10 WiFi capability - 10/10 Autofocus - 10/10 Video - 9/10 One of the best intermediate cameras out there. There are way more features built into the 80D, maybe more than most of us will utilize over time, but I've come to really love this version. The availability of multiple auto-focus points is tremendous, and gives the user awesome flexibility. The creative filters are really fun to work with, and expands the versatility of this camera. I've had this camera nearly a year now, experimenting as I go, and really finding out what this camera can do...I believe there are endless possibilities, and the quality of my photographs is awesome!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works Very Nicely! My package came in brand new and on time with the camera, battery/charger, camera strap and the 18-55 mm lenses. This camera works very well! Even though it is almost 3 years old, it still has amazing features, excluding the camera not being able to record in 4K. It has high quality 60 fps recording and continuous autofocus, but you cannot take photos while recording. Overall, this is a great DSLR for Semi-Pro/Enthusiast photopgraphers and videographers. I recommend it with a camera score of an 9/10.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Review of f8 review Reviewer complaining about no focus on his 300mm lens using the 2.0 extender? Not the camera's fault at all. If he had read the info he would have seen his problem: 2.0 extenders DO NOT autofocus! The problem is the user not doing his research and then blaming Canon. That's another reason I always try to read between the lines on user reviews. I certainly trust info from experienced professionals than I do from hobbyist-casual users.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Romance Fell in love with 80D about 6 months ago and the romance continues. I'm an artist/painter and it has gotten to where most of the time I do not leave my studio without it. Looking forward to having more lenses, great microphone and extend the capabilities even more. This might be strange but I really like the weight and grip of this camera.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent camera This is a great camera, the best I had from Canon so far (had 350d, 30D, 40D). Focusing is perfect, work with speedlite makes perfect exposures, extra focusing points are the best feature. I like the speed, wifi, touch screen, don't like video because when you move the camera around. Absolutely best buy!
