The EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM is a high performance, water-resistant, and ultra wide-angle Canon L-series lens. It has been specifically designed for improved edge-to-edge image quality that will meet the strict requirements of professional and high-end amateur photographers. It features 3 high-precision aspherical lens elements, each of a different type: ground, replica and GMo for even better image quality than the original EF 16-35mm f/2.8L USM. The circular aperture produces a beautiful and natural background blur when shooting at wider apertures. Other features include internal focusing, a ring type USM (Ultra Sonic Monitor), and AF algorithms for fast and quiet autofocusing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice piece of glass Basing this review on 38 years as a commercial shooter. This lens is a great piece of glass. I'm finding it incredibly sharp corner to corner at any f-stop. I've used it for commercial jobs, and for fun out in nature and haven't been even the slightest bit disappointed. I'm not a low light kinda shooter, so the f4 thing doesn't bother me. And, I think this lens is so sharp that even if you do like to shoot in low light it wouldn't be any big deal to pull off a great shot. I give this lens a big two thumbs up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Lens! Build quality is fantastic and I love that this has IS. I chose this over the 2.8 versions for this reason and I’m glad I did!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I didn't need this but I wanted it - so I got it! I have several older Canon lens that are around this focal range but they only make acceptable shots during bright sunny days and usually with a tripod. I read online how to get the best from this lens, then went out daily for about a week and was quickly getting the sharpest shots with the best color I've ever gotten. Day and night, morning, afternoon, and evenings. Rainy days. Handheld too! No complaints here - this lens lives up to the hype.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This EF 16-35 lens is a great tool for landscapes We were on a photo trip and I had left the lens I normally use for landscape type photography home. So, I ordered this lens for over night delivery. We had three guided photo tours scheduled and I had to have a lens that would do the job. I don't think of myself as a professional photography, but I do have professional type lens and cameras. To date, I have used this lens for about a week. I have used it in very dark environments in both the Antelope Upper and Lower Slot Canyons. I was shocked at the quality of the photos that I got. I shoot HDR and in this low light environment both my Canon 1Dx and this lens did a great job for me. In addition, I used this lens at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon and both camera and lens were spectacular. In the week I have had the lens in addition to the above, I have used it in sunrise and sunset and it picks up colors I didn't see in the shots until I saw them in the photos. This will be my primary landscape lens. This lens is quiet, extremely fast on focus and the images are extremely sharp. In the slot canyons you are up close. On the North Rim of the Grand Canyon you are shooting at great distance. This lens was extremely sharp in both situations.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this EF-16-35mm f/4L IS USM Lens As a realtor, I need a wide angle lens that delivers clear pictures which will determine whether or not a potential buyer sitting st home viewing potential properties on-line is going to ake the initiative to physically come see the property. This lens delivers. I used to have the f/2.8L but found the Image Stabalization to be a worthwhile trade off.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Just purchased the lens and completed my testing. I have a history of returning more lenses than I keep, usually because they are either unsharp or improperly centered, meaning one side of the frame will be sharper than the opposite side. A typical lens of good quality will register images that will be sharpest in the center of the field and sharpness will drop somewhat as the image moves off axis to the edge of the field. The thing is, both edges should be the same, and that is where many zooms especially fail to deliver. This lens is optical gold. Not only are both edges the same across the zoom range, there is almost no falloff in sharpness between the edges and the center, which I think is extraordinary in a wide angle zoom. My review is only for the one specimen I tested, but if others are the same I would recommend it without hesitation.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Can't be happier with this lens In order to reduce the weight and space in my backpack, I sold the EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 for my T3i and bought this EF 16-35 f/4L just before my trip to Nepal and Bhutan so that I only needed to carry 1 lens and 1 body - 5DM3 (I normally have the 35mm f/1.4L on the 5DM3 for mainly shooting landscape. First of all, I screwed on an UV filter so that the front lens element is protected and also to provide dust/water resistance as recommended by Canon. The body - Unlike other L lenses, this one is made of plastic. I think, with proper care, this material should be fine for years under normal use but only time will tell. The mount - It's metal and with weather seal as expected. The zoom ring - very smooth with just the right amount of friction and no noticeable free play. The front element does not rotate or extend when zoomed as I preferred. The focus ring - very good quality, wide rubberized band with smooth resistance/damping that helps when precise manual focusing is needed. Image quality - I did not perform any professional tests on the image quality but only looking at the images with various settings that I took during the trip. I have to say that I am very pleased with the quality of these images in terms of the general sharpness, color and the amount of chromatic aberration and vignette. The outer edges of the images are a little soft when the aperture is wide open but I am sure it could be improved with additional stops of aperture and with a tripod. Value - Consider the overall build & image quality and features (f/4, USM, IS), this is a versatile lens with good value and I expect a long service life and consistent quality from a lens such as this that wears the red ring that signifies Canon's professional quality.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing piece of glass. Rented this lens for a long road trip and all I can say is WOW. And WOW again. In terms of image quality this lens would be better described as a "variable focal length Prime" rather than merely a "zoom". All the way to the corners it proved itself to be a sharp lens. The rave reviews you run into here and there are very well earned. I disagree with any naysayers for putting an image stabilizer on such a wide lens...it works amazingly well and for me was a true image saver - proved itself to be worth it's weight in gold while taking pictures in a dimly lit cave in which tripods were prohibited, and also many other marginally-lit times when the situation or time rendered pulling out a tripod inconvenient or impractical. The only way this lens will get knocked off my purchase list is if Canon soon comes out with a f/2.8 version (with an IS) with the same optical quality of this lens. A must-have for anyone who shoots wide angle.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exquisite The crown jewel of Canon L wide zooms. You will not find a sharper piece of glass edge to edge for wide angle landscape than this. In all candor what;s the real advantage of 2.8 vs 4 when it comes to critical landscape? Not a darn thing. If you are a real pro shooting critical landscape, then edge to edge is far more imperative than a faster max ap. You're probably shooting stopped down regardless. This f4 yields far higher corner and edge sharpness than the 2.8s in similar ranges. DO NOT HINK TIWCE ABOUT BUYING THIS DIAMOND. THIS LENS IS EXQUISITE. Tip my hat to the engineers. Gentlemen, you have procured greatness.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it! This was my first piece of L series glass, all I can say is WOW! Why did I wait so long to upgrade. I always thought I was doing pretty good with my kit lenses until I put this on the camera. Been shooting with this for a little over 2 months now and I am very pleased with the purchase. I can't wait to buy my next one, as I upgrade my lenses prior to upgrading my camera. I am using this on a T2i, can't wait to use it on a full frame to take advantage of the wider angle.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 16-35 mm f/4 haven't used the lens yet, looks and feels good...focal length spans my existing 24mm. travelling to the middle east next week...the 16-35mm will be my only lens on this trip...I've always just shot in wide angle. ask me in a month.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Investment I use this lens on my 6D with excellent results. Wide open at 16mm it is very sharp corner to corner and edge to edge. Excellent color and contrast with only very slight fringing under some conditions. Barely noticeable. Focus is quick and quiet. I sold my EF 17-40mm f/4 L at the same time that I bought this one and I don't miss it one bit. A definite improvement. Even without in-camera correction profiles it outperforms the 17-40, which has profiles. A definite keeper.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super Sharp! I bought this lens less than a month ago and used it on a recent shoot. I was amazed at how tack sharp it is. Also there is very little distortion like you see in other wide angle lenses. This is my go to lens from now on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Lens I got this lens to replace a 17-40L and am very happy, I made the right choice. Have owned two different copies of 17-40 & this outperforms them handily. Sharp wide open at f4 & edges good too. I mainly shoot landscape/nature. What I notice is micro-contrast/micro-detail is superb; the very small details pop. Plus CA is almost nonexistent. There is some optical distortion, but can correct in post. IS works well, I will use it for slower shutter speeds and turn it off for faster speeds. I mainly use this on a tripod, so IS is off anyways. Overall a joy to use, the rave reviews are justified-I look forward to using this wide zoom a lot.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great! Even though I just got it yesterday (June 28) I mounted it on my 5D lll and took it for a test drive for the whole day to the International Jazz Festival in Rochester.... Needless to say Canon has put out another great lens. Fast, sharp, Great color and love the fact that it has Image stabilizer! If you're looking for an awesome ultra wide L lens just get it it's worth every penny!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Incredible value I bought this lens to use primarily for real estate. I rented a 16-35 F4.0 IS L, a 16-35 F2.8L, and a 14mm F2.8 prime. This new 16-35 4.0 is the winner hands down. Distortion is minimal and it's sharp edge to edge. I have noticed in some rare instances some chromatic aberration but I'm sure when I update my 6D to recognize this lens it will probably go away. The plastic body feels very solid and I like the fact that the front element doesn't extend past the end of the lens. Make sure to keep a UV filter on it at all times though as Canon mentions in the booklet that came with it that the rear seals and switches are sealed but the front element needs a UV filter to keep it dust free. I shoot landscapes with this lens as well and I can honestly say that I am no longer jealous of Canon's top competitor's 14-24mm and it costs half as much!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from worth the upgrade I have used the 17-40mm for years, primely for Real Estate. I learned how to get the best out of that Lens. Decided to go for the new lens since I was shooting a lot of exposers at F4 and thought stabilization would help What an understatement this new lens is far superior to my old lens.I get many more sharp great pictures the lens has made a BIG difference. Just get it ..it's worth the money

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Favorite lens. Amateur using EF/EFs mount lenses since the EOS 350D. This is simply the best lens I've ever used. It produces crystal-clear images on ASP-C and full-frame, with the focal length on full-frame opening up a whole new world of possibilities for landscape and travel shots. I've not tried the 2.8, but at this price you could buy a prime lens to go along with it! Its light weight and IS mean you can walk around all day, for your whole trip, without your arms feeling like jelly. It's great for time-lapse. The lens is almost always on my camera when I leave the house. To anyone looking for their first "L-lens," don't look any further -- you'll likely use this 20x more than a 70-200 :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Lens Just bought this lens, exceptional sharpness and great Canon color. The IS is perfect for low light shooting when a tripod is not allowed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rented before purchase. I rented both the 2.8 iii and the 4 of this lens. I really appreciate the IS of the 4, which got me more useable photos than the 2.8. I bought the 4 for its IS and price. I am happy with my purchase because I find myself needing a wide angle more than my telephoto or kit lens. The IS is great for the shots I need indoors in low light and ability to use it longer during dusk and dawn photos outside without a tripod.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great quality with IS Bought this lens prior to going to Italy. I found the 16-35 mm range with IS the ideal lens for narrow Italian village streets as well as the many outdoor scenes. I have included a few pictures shot with this lens on a 5DMKIII.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from About time... Ive had ALL of Canons wide offerings in the last 25 years. 20-35mm 2.8L, 17-35mm 2.8L, 14mm 2.8L II, 16-35mm 2.8L, 17-40 4L, 16-35mm 2.8L II, and finally this 16-35mm f4L IS. The image quality alone is head and shoulders above the rest of the group. Its control of aberrations and contrast are superb. I am especially happy with the sharpness at the extreme edges at 16mm...BEAUTIFUL even from f4. I believe Canon have found a great formula with their new coatings and glass combinations in this lens. Well done Canon, you have made me a happy chap. 5 Stars for practicality and real world usage, the IS is superb and very useful in many situations..its stays "ON" all the time I also own 21mm, 28mm, 35mm and 50mm Zeiss ZE lenses for my landscape group and this single Canon 16-35mm f4L IS zoom has almost replaced the lot. I am very impressed with the image quality Great stuff..

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great wide angle I bought this lens to have a wider angle to compliment my lens arsenal (24-105mm, 70-200mm. Like all of the "L" series glass, you will not be disappointed with the clarity and sharpness. Shooting with both the 6D and 7D MKII, this lens has preformed exceptional well for both landscape shots and for indoor shots (even in low light). It seems really sharp throughout the zoom range. You will not be disappointed with this guy
