The Canon EF USM Telephoto Zoom Lens delivers outstanding performance and optics to help master high-level creative imaging. The lens' constant f/2.8 maximum aperture enables fast shutter speeds and beautiful background blurs across its zoom range. To further enhance clarity, it adds Canon's Air Sphere Coating (ASC), which when combined with Super Spectra Coatings, significantly reduces lens flare and ghosting. A superlative lens remastered for improved performance even in diverse light, this telephoto zoom lens is an ideal choice to create stunning images. The lens' bright image enhances AF performance, sending more light to more areas of the AF sensor to facilitate a faster, more accurate focus. It has a specially designed fluorine coating on its front and rear surfaces. This fluorine coating helps prevent dust, water, oil and other surface residue like fingerprints from sticking to the lens, which facilitates quick and easy wiping, without the use of solvents.

  • Dust- and water-resistant construction with seals around multiple parts for protection
  • Full-time manual focusing allows you to turn focusing ring without the need to switch to MF mode

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of the finest lensesI am not sure how improved is this upon USM II, but this is an excellent choice who love portrait or landscape photography. Really great image quality. I love this with my 5DSR. A must have

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Poor Indoor PerformanceI bought this lens for shooting sporting events, both indoor and outdoor. In outdoor light it seems to work fine, but it is very disappointing indoors. I've probably thrown away half the shots I've taken with it. Autofocus is very slow and erratic. Not you what you expect for the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Mark three Just OKMy old 70-200mm 2.8 IS finally died after a decade. So I upgraded and it’s about the same soft on a lot of shots even when stoped down to f/4 (used w/ 1Dx. Still heavy. On the plus side the auto focus does seem to be quieter when using it with an on camera mic for video.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from DisappointedI've had this lens for 18 months. The focal ring constantly comes loose and impacts image quality... especially when I'm moving around and shooting sports and fast moving objects. I feel like my Tamron is far more reliable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great quality !Mind blowing clarity !!! I can see why it’s a popular lens. If you don’t get to purchase a lot of glass but want to step up your game this is a really good choice for all around shooting speed, clarity and awesome portraits are possible! Low light friendly .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great indoor lens with low lightI purchased this lens to shoot horses and equestrian events, these are typically in low light conditions especially in the winter. The performance has been nothing short of spectacular. You have to really pay attention since the subjects are constantly moving but the results speak for themselves. Great essential lens in my opinion.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tack sharp lensI purchase this lens and took some shots, it has very accurate fast focus for both out door and indoor, images are tack sharp and excellent color rendered. I don't care it has the same optic line up same as Mark II, as long as it can produce excellent images, why should I care about same optic line up as said by some reviews ?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great lensThis is a great addition to the EF L lens line up. After borrowing one and liking the results I decided to purchase one. I eventually plan to update my other 70-200 IS II.
