This DVD player has terrible support: no easy to access manual, no clear instructions, no accessible tech support.
This DVD player is extremely frustrating. It did not come with any clear instructions for how to access help, and the eventual help pages I found do not answer some basic questions. There is no obvious tech support in terms of a phone or chat contact. I have spent hours trying to figure out how to use the different functions and have still not learned enough.

Excellent Accessory to Back-Up Documents and Media
I currently own an HP laptop, an HP Envy All-in-One printer, and an HP external monitor. It's important for me have everything available, and that requires backing-up critical documents, as well as movies, television series, and music I've purchase. The DVD that installed the software was very helpful and simple to use.

Requires 2 usb slots
I bought this for my new HP Spectre 360 and it requires 2 usb slots. My Spectre only has 1 usb slot. It has 2 usb-c slots so I had to buy 2 adaptors to plug the dvd into the usb-c slots. This dvd player was recommended for my computer when I bought my computer. Why would you recommend a dvd player that would not plug into my available usb slots? The description did not say it had 2 usb connectors. Very disappointed. I have not used it yet as I am waiting for the 2 usb.c adaptors.

This works beautifully! I recently upgraded my laptop, but the new one didn’t have an optical drive. I bought the Buffalo drive on Dell’s website, and I wasn’t disappointed. After just a couple weeks, I’ve already burned some DVDs. The process was smooth and fast, despite the 8x speed limitation. I love how it has two short USB cables (power and data) that tuck away when not in use.

Directions a Little Confusing
I had to call support because the directions were confusing. Directions showed plugging in two ports but I was told that I didn't have to plug both of them. Other than that, it was great because I needed to download a software from an old laptop and install it on my new one.

The DVD/CD player works in win 10 and is easy to add CDs to iTunes. The unit does require 2 USB ports 2.0 ports to work which means you may need a usb 3.0 hub with extra 2.0 slots.

It seems to work ok but the USB cable is ridiculously short. It's about 6" long. My tower sits on the floor and the cable is so short that I am very limited trying to find a good place to put it. When I bought my new Dell computer 2 months ago, I was told there would be a 60-90 day delay if I added an internal drive, so I opted to go without and add an external one later.

The process for buying this unit couldn't have been easier; the online rep was very helpful in answering questions. The unit arrived quickly, and I love it. The screen is big and bold; clear as a bell. It boots amazingly quickly. I truly enjoy the space-reducing of this all-in-one. If there is any concern, it's that it would be nice to have more USB ports. (It has four with a charging port as well). But I knew this going in, and it's a very minor issue in the long run. Very happy customer (my second HP computer - - and I still use the older one.)

Not quite twice the price of the junk DVD Players, but certainly more than worth the money. Those $25 players don't work well and don't last long. This one is metal, not plastic, and the components are sturdy quality. The Buffalo (sold by Dell is certainly cheaper for the long run, and it performs better!

Inexpensive and powers with 1 usb port.
I needed to add a writer for my computer. I wanted to make sure the one I purchased was compatable with my HP so I looked on the HP website and found this one. I was lucky in the fact that I only needed to use one usb port not two with some computers. So, I did not need to have a power outlet available. Great! It sits on top of my PC, out of the way until I need it. I am happy with this writer and have used it several times so far.

Lousy device - does not even do simple things
This device was a complete wasted of time. I purchased it to play DVDs on my new HP PC (most PCs no longer come with media players). I guess is this latest 'unbundling' aspect of companies that get to 'reduce the sticker price' of what you buy - but then you pay more later... Like having to pay for seat assignments or baggage on a plane. Anyway - this device does not even play movie DVDs. The software that runs the device (Cyberlink) makes you upgrade (!) to a more expensive version to do that. No thanks! What a waste of money...

Bought this with the rewards points from purchasing my XPS 9570. Works great! I like how the USB cable is built into the drive and slots into the side, but it is a bit short. Also no glossy plastic that can get covered in fingerprints and scratches is a plus in my book.
There is an extra USB cable on the bottom for power - This had me concerned at first as the XPS 9570 only has 2 USB ports on opposite sides of the machine, but the drive functions fine without plugging the power cord in, for me at least. Maybe this is to draw power from another source besides your laptop's battery? Not sure.

I bought this DVD player for my PC when HP didn't include one in my order for a PC. I had my PC built and at the time I had repeated twice to the rep that I DID indeed need a DVD player for this PC, not just for movies I own, but older games I still play as well. But, I did not get the DVD drive included. I was told that I could return the PC (which I'd already set up) and get one added for free, but wait weeks and weeks again and then spend another day setting it up, or I could get this DVD player for half the price. So I went with what I thought was the easier option. I regret this now. The player is nearly as noisy as a vacuum cleaner when running and it does not come with the ability to play movie DVD's. I would have to purchase the ability to play movies or get some free version where I'm bombarded with ads. I'm happy that it works and will play my PC games and allow me to do those things that require disks, but I am not happy with the level of noise or the fact that I can't watch movies on the thing. I don't recommend this player unless you're desperate. Had I paid full price I'd have definitely sent it back and gotten a refund.

As a computer novice, I was confused with the inclusion of a CD disc addition that was not explained as a supplemental program. Only after calling for technical assistance did I realize this. I mistakenly assumed that this disc was a required software to initiate use of this device. This call could have been avoided with a brief package insert explaining that the device is a "plug and play" not requiring installation of this supplemental disc before use.

This DVD writer works great so far as I have used it. Ihave not used it to write a DVD yet You can load the disk that comes with it or just start using ti to play CD's and movies without having to download any software for it. It is light weight and compact.

Do not Purchase if using MS 10 or 11 S Mode.
I would have given these 4 or 5 stars, but the software/hardware is not compatible for MS10 Mode S or MS 11 Mode S. You have to get rid of the S mode for good before you can add this device. Buyers should be warned in notes about the, or description about the conflict.

It would not play a dvd,, indicating I needed to purchase an upgrade. But called tech support and they created a short cut for me that worked. It was a hassle & inconvenience to get started.
