Not capable with the HP Spectre
I thought I would be able to use this since it was recommended by an HP specialist, however, it had only USB hookup and the Spectre doesn't have USB ports. So I had to send it back.

Good if your computer doesn't have a Blu-ray drive
I bought this drive when I purchased my HP Envy because I couldn't get a Blu-ray optical drive in it. It works very good but it requires two USB ports to run (one for power and one for data). Since then I have been able to buy a Blu-ray optical drive that I installed. Much happier with that one

Poor add on drive and HP computer
I recently purchased the external disk drive and am not at satisfied with. This is because there are not enough external ports to accommodate it. I was not happy with the computer when I bought it and am still not satisfied with it. I bought it for immediate use and got stuck with it. I would not recommend HP.

Works Fine
This unit works fine except for the following:
1. It requires two USB ports.
2. It will not work on a HUB.
3. If you only have a limited number of USB PORTS, you may want to consider another type of unit.

Failed to install properly
Attempted to install this device on a brand new Dell Inspiron 15 5000 laptop. Received multiple error messages during the installation process. Once the installation was "complete" the application would not start, because its side by side installation is incorrect. I was referred to the event log and no useful troubleshooting help or other remedies were offered. A total disappointment.

Hardware Great, Software Poor
Dell Advertises product as New...Someone would come to think that software included with item advertised as ''NEW'' should be compatible with Windows 10 but it's not the case!
Contacted Dell so they could send me free software Upgrade ( Cyber-link Media Suit 13), however the only option hey had to offer was taking back item. I requested to speak with supervisor to obtain compensation as I had to purchase Upgrade via Cyber-link website for 120$. I am still waiting for their feedback.
If we exclude software issues from the equation I give hardware 4 stars out of 5. I recommend the item if your looking for good hardware.
However, if you are looking for both hardware and software experience I recommend you stay away from maikng such purchase unless you are prepared to buy Cyberlink Media Suit 13.

Good DL/XL Blueray Burner, but needs two USB 2.0 cables
This is a good SL/DL/XL Blue Ray Burner. I have been using it to burn DL Blue Ray disks. It is doing a good job. The only problem I have with it is that it needs two USB 2.0 cables, one for the data and the other to provide extra power and the cables that came with it are so short that you have to buy an extension cable to reach the USB port on my computer. This was apparently done so that it could be powered entirely by a Laptop computer somewhere that AC power was unavailable. I am using it with my Desktop computer at home, so the arrangement is a little awkward.

Not what I thought I was buying
I purchased this device to take the place of the internal DVD player/writer that came with my Dell XPS desktop computer. That drive stopped being able to eject a disk. I called Dell sales to purchase an external drive to replace it that would write to a disk and would also play Blu-ray movie disks. The sales person assured me this drive would do both. After many tries I could not make this new player do either of these things. It does not seem to work with Windows 10. The software is out of date and an update is not available from the maker. I am sorry I purchased this device.

I'm going to have to rate this 5Stars. It does everything it's meant to do. It plays DVDs and Blu-Rays, i tested it. There's something in the box about not playing 4k Blu-Ray; i don't know how that's different from a regular Blu-ray. I know that once i installed the software it comes with i was able to play Blu-rays. The default player is annoying in that it tells you that it doesn't support a separate monitor, which it does. But like I said, it does what it's meant to do.

Cannot play Blu-ray titles from your laptop to HDTV via HDMI!!!???
I purchased this drive primarily so I could watch Blu-ray movies on my laptop via HDCP-compliant HDMI connection to my HDTV. Surprise, I am unable to do this very simple and perfectly legitimate task despite that the entire hardware and software chain is HDCP-compliant. No problem playing DVDs but for Blu-ray titles, no. So ridiculous and it makes this purchase a waste of my time and money.

BuFFALO MediaStaion, does not support 4k UHD blu-ray disk play back
The player is good for burning CD's and Blu-ray disks and playing back standard 1080p blu-ray disks, however the player does support play back of UHD 4k blu-ray disks as advertised. The box the the player comes in has UltraHD 4K &3D Media Play back written in large letters on the front. However if you look on the bottom right on the front of the box in very small letters it says the following "This drive is not supported to playing UltraHD Blu-ray Disc" If you are looking for a play that will allow you to play 4k blu-ray movies on your computer this is not the player you want.

Good Drive but Feckless Bundled Software
The drive has good functionality and uses an additional USB port to offset its power draw during some applications. It also has an external power input socket. I would prefer its included instructions include mention of appropriate input power so that users could use external power at times instead of tying up two USB ports on their laptops. The provided software is useless as is its "free update" in WIN 11. Buyers are advised to buy the drive and appropriate software separately.
