The Brother HL-L2300D Printer is a monochrome laser printing solution, ideal for small office or home use. With a 2400 x 600 dpi resolution and a 27 ppm speed, it offers exceptional detail without compromising on time. The automatic duplex printing feature of this printer allows you to print two-sided documents, brochures and booklets. Its comes with an adjustable 250-sheet paper tray that can handle letter or legal size paper. This monochrome laser printer has a USB 2.0 port to offer easy connectivity option for directly printing files. It also features a Toner Save mode that saves you money by using less toner for less critical business documents. To ensure that all of your printed documents look good, this printer is equipped with a manual feed slot and rear paper exit that provides a straight-through paper path. Immediately help from Brother came up on my screen. I had it running in less than a minute! No going through files attempting to find a manual, then trying to locate my specific problem.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Compact, Space efficient, quiet This is my first Brother printer. It was purchased (new) for use in my classroom, so it is a B&W version. Unlike the printers I normally purchase, it did not include all necessary cables to connect to my computer which was a hassle. A list of necessary cables was not enclosed so I had to do the guessing thing which was a hassle and meant that it sat on my desk while I waited on an Amazon delivery (it was that or do a purchase order and then I'd still be waiting!). Now everything is together, it works well. It's pretty quiet and reasonably quick. Truthfully, I like the lower cost of operation. However, I don't know that I prefer it to my significantly more expensive color home unit. It is more cost efficient and it does at least 85-90% of what I need (quick reports, master copies, individual copies of personalized materials for students or meetings, etc.), yet I still find myself needing color copies randomly and those have to wait until I get home! I've had some trouble acquiring individual printer cartridges (ink/toner replacement), and that concerns me as once I'm back on campus full time, I don't know how many copies I will actually get from a single "real" cartridge (not the promo cartridge they are sold with). I need to have a good source that sells both individual and pairs of HIGH YIELD ink/toner. So, all said, a good day to day printer if you only need black toner. If you need color, you will need a second unit or a different unit.

I've gone through all the maintenance items suggested by Brother to no effect. It started out with excellent quality but after only a few weeks of moderate use, the quality has diminished.

A new HP color laser wouldn't accept cardstock nor older software so unhappy with it and wanted an older model that would accept the option of W-10 or XP & W-7 too. This little monocolor printer solved and checked all the boxes. Takes cardstock up to 100 maybe 110 for some brands. Couldn't be more satisified. Small foot print is also a huge PLUS if not down right bonus.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from TECHNICAL SOLUTION This printer has been in-house just over a month, & is an excellent alternative to 4-in-one versions that waste toners, drums, paper. There have not been any issues, & hopefully it will function for a very long time. Being a laser, it offers quality prints just in black & white which is no large sacrifice for small businesses & one person operations. It's compact size & lack of complicated connections is much appreciated. It is interfaced via USB as I am not a fan of Wi-Fi. The price was very reasonable, & there are no regrets looking back.

My first one didn't quit working until a dropped it the 3rd or 4th time while packing it for a move. It was such a workhorse that I never considered anything else when it was time for a new printer. It's an easy printer to use and maintain I don't need fancy colors or wireless, just a steady machine that won't give me problems. This model is still living up to those needs. This is perfect for my home office needs and doesn't take up a lot of space. This Brother has been my favorite out of all the machines I've owned in the past 13 years. I hope they never stop making it.

Installing was simple and loading the tray is easy. I recommend using high quality paper 28 pound laser paper.

I own two HL-L2300D printers.The first one suffered a mechanical failure about 14 months after purchase, so it was out of warranty. I bought a second one which experienced the same mechanical failure after about two or three months. That one is at an authorized service center. I dropped it off about a month ago, and it has not yet been repaired. Thanks for your time.

I'm a journalism student so I'm constantly printing things and one toner cartridge lasted me three semesters. The cartridges are very reasonably priced. I would give it five stars but this printer has so few features.

I ended placing a wedge at the rear of the printer so as to raise that side of the tray. This seemed to solve the problem. It does reoccur if I happen to move the printer a little bit.

A few minor glitches like it doesn't pick-up the paper in the tray once in a while. Easy to fix, just open the tray and close again. Overall, a perfect printer if you need something that can print out a few copies of a short presentation or one-pagers. Great price/ feature value!

My only "complaint" against this model is that I cannot print envelopes as easily as I could on my earlier machine: just stick the envelope in slot in front and print it out. On this one I have to turn the machine around to fiddle with some green gears in the back of the machine, turn it around to stick the envelope in the front, print it out, again turn the machine around to fiddle with those gears and undo what I just did to print one envelope; turn it around yet again to face forward for printing documents. Makes no sense and is too much work to use this feature. So back to addressing envelopes with arthritic hand. Other than that I would have given it 5 stars.

I tried three times to select the unprinted pages without any success. I even tried to select each page separately but the printer would not print the page selected.

As near as I can tell this is not covered in any manual or instruction sheet. I almost returned the printer because I thought the switch was defective. I think this should be spelled out more clearly!

The printer only prints the demo sheets and/or combines with other single printed sheets. Really frustrating. I have not been able to print any documents (i.e. bank statement, confirmation of orders pending, etc.

By the time I got the machine to respond to the cancel print command on the printer function icon I had almost 100 pages. I guess maybe I should have looked in the book before using the printer for the first time. I just think it needs a cancel button.

Only negative is that it gives off an obnoxious odor for a short time on start up (and perhaps to a much lesser extent while printing). I believe this is common to most, if not all, laser printers because of heating of internal parts upon startup and maybe the laser fusion of the toner to the paper. I believe the printer should be used in an area with ventilation -- especially if used in an enclosed office or small area or room.

I only use it on occasion so I can't speak to how it works on big jobs, but I've had zero complaints since setting it up. The one problem I did have - everyone recommends just using the installation package on Brothers' website, but when I did that, it didn't recognize the printer. I uninstalled the software, then reinstalled it from the CD they sent me with the printer, and then it worked right away. So, my recommendation is just to use the disc they send and be done with it.

My only gripe is that after 10 years, Brother still hasn't gotten the hand-fee to print envelopes and Avery 5-up address labels straight. They always, ALWAYS print cock-eyed, even if I hold the label and make sure it guides in straight. Very disappointing!

I rest my laptop on top of it so the footprint is minimal. It must be reasonably close to the computer since it must be connected to the computer with an Ethernet cable. Cons: My only issue is why it prints on both sides of the paper when there is only one page to print. My Brother MFC knows not to do this. Conclusion: This is probably the best deal out there for a b&w laser printer.

It is a worthless printer that consistently gets hung up whenever I individually feed a single sheet and try to switch to regular printing. I constantly have to unplug and reset this "printer" that doesn't print to get it to work. I cannot believe that this different model is any better, but only changed the product number to hide the poor performance. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THESE PRODUCTS

This one covered all the bases. It’s compact, easy to set up, uses only one large cartridge, black ink only, it’s fast and the print quality is excellent and the price was great. I’m am extremely happy with my purchase and would highly recommend this product.

Unable to diagnose over the phone I had to drive an hour to a brother service center. It was replaced with a refurbished unit and had the same issue. Brother covered only 1 with the warranty and did not want the other unit returned

I want to stay with this model and from what I understand, this is the newer model of the HL2170W. I’ve had my 2170W for many years, probably close to 10 years and it has been a wonderful orinter. Its fast and print is sharp. Only now am I replacing the drum on it. Brother has the drum at a reasonable price. I should get it today. If anything goes wrong, I’ll still purchase a brother printer ???. It’s the best printer I’ve ever had. It is sooooo much better than these inkjet printers. Bravo Brother. p.s. I had just returned two Epson printers that printed well, but needed parts such as an "ink pad" & an "box box replacement" that seemed extraneous to printing, yet were critical & unavailable due to the model being discontinued three years after I bought them! Never again! I am so happy to have found this Brother printer that is compatible with my iMac and prints beautifully with black ink, which is all I wanted!

For the FIRST print of the day, I've counted between 5-7 seconds from pressing the print button to the printer spooling up. I'm plugged in directly via USB cable. Rarely does someone actually require color, and the laser ink is far economical than ink jet cartridges. No complicated bells and whistles you'll only use once a year, this is a solid DUPLEX laser printer for the home!

It was easy to clean the printer and change the tonor. The only problem is that it makes the lights flicker when it turns on. Is it powering up a capacitor and shifting the phase of my wall current? I don't know, but it makes me a bit nervous.

It is easy on toner and will feed any and all paper thrown at it. That being said it is a bit on the noisy side, but given it's price point and performance that can be overlooked. I am pleased to say I would purchase again without hesitation.

Even if I only wanted to print in black, my previous printer would not allow me to do so if one of the color cartridges was out of ink. Very annoying. It also took ages and went through all sorts of shaking and dancing before it would print, if all of the ink cartridges were in order - otherwise I would have to wait to replace the empty cartridge. Very annoying. I love this simple quick and efficient printer.

I had to contact CS in advance to ask a few questions (via the chat before purchasing & the customer service people were fantastic. I had questions about the compatibility of the printer with Mac OS X Yosemite so I called in to make sure compatibility wasn't going to be an issue. Downloading & installing the driver on my Mac was a snap & the printer was up & running in 10 - 15 minutes after it arrived at my doorstep. Piece of cake. Highly recommended. Thanks Brother!

This is a problem well known to Brother about its printers as a Google search will show, but they don't seem to want to do anything about it. And when did it stop turning on? Right after the warranty expired! Within the month. Very convenient. I was supposed to get a call from Brother to help, but I did not. Awful experience and I will not repeat it and waste more money.

The brand is very reliable and trouble free and it is a laser printer as I did not want to deal with the purchase of INK for a jet printer. However, I did not see or perhaps I overlooked the fact that the 2300 does NOT copy!!, which is sometimes very frustrating. When I went back to see if anything about copying was mentioned in the online ad for the 2300, I did not see anything! I just assumed that all printers are copiers too---WRONG!!

I bought this model because it was highly reviewed by my two go-to tech websites and have not been disappointed. One helpful feature is the online support and emails when drivers need to be updated and other action is required. The website is OK but the outreach is excellent.

I needed a new laptop after my 18 year old Toshiba's motherboard gave out. So I bought a HP 17" by4061nr. I have an older model HP f4135 All In One Desk Jet printer. The reason I bought the HP laptop was because I thought they would have the software and drivers for my older HP printer to work with Windows 11. Wrong! After many hours of using the HP website in an attempt to get the software to download to my new HP laptop I resigned myself to the fact that I was going to have to call HP tech support. I spent several hours with 3 different HP tech support people who I couldn't understand, if you know what I mean. I asked them to redirect me to a United States customer service rep and they said there aren't any US customer service reps. That's when I started looking for another brand of printer. I came across this Brother HL-L2300D model on Amazon. I read many of the 5 star reviews and some of the 1 stars. The vast majority of people raved about this particular model so I decided to take a chance. I received my HL-L2300D model today. The printer was packaged very well. It comes with an installation CD, but I used the installation directions from the Brother website. They were very easy to follow. With unpacking the printer, setting up the printer, downloading the software and drivers, I was able to print my first page in about 30 minutes or less. This printer does NOT come with a USB cable , but I had one from my old printer that worked just fine. Even if you have to buy a USB cable, it is a small price to pay for a GREAT little, fast printing machine! My inkjet cartridges use to dry out all the time. Laser printers don't cause you those headaches. Updated May 24, 2022 Don't hesitate to purchase this GREAT little printer. It is a joy to own. It is fast and quiet. You would be hard pressed to find a better printer value at this price. Thanks Bother.

The last three HP devices were all buggy, and prone to problems after software updates. All of them stopped working after only two or three years of use, and the per-page cost of printing on HP printers proved to be much higher than advertised. So I decided to try a Brother printer, and have been delighted with the trouble free performance. Highly recommended!

Seems like a winner for its compact size and smooth operation. One issue - haven't yet found a way to get Excel spreadsheet printouts to show the grids clearly.

Unfortunately the quality level of printed graphics and photos was unacceptably poor, with chronic banding that Brother tech support was unable to resolve. Ultimately I had to return the printer and choose another brand.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Brother HL-L300D This printer has many great features such as automatic double sided printing, really fast set up, small compact size, etc. Pros: Very efficient printer. Prints beautifully. Cons: It uses A LOT of electricity - I couldn't even plug it into our UPS as it kept shutting it down to the point where the breakers were thrown. In order to print an envelope I have to physically pick up and turn the printer at least one quarter turn to the left so that I can open the back part and then two levers have to be pressed down while the front, manual slot has to be opened in the front. It's quite a hassle as the printer doesn't quite fit on the computer desk and I can't get it far enough from the wall for that back cover to be opened. Other than that the printer is a good solution so far and the printing is beautiful! Thanks, Kathy

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Okay unit. I find sufficient toner to print beautifully, yet the printer won't let me continue to print at my descretion, stating it need to be replaced. I didn't have that problem with my previous Brother printer. I should be able to use the toner until I determine it is empty. Toners are not cheap and it is a waste of money to replace when there is still adequate toner left in the cartridge. Also, the manual feed doesn't grasp the paper evenly all the time and reprints are necessary. I find that it is slower that my previous unit. I am thinking that 2-sided printing slows the unit down. I would not purchase another of any brand that prints 2-sided after this experience. My last Brother lasted almost 6 years. It was a great printer. I didn't replace 'apples with apples' so I want to be fair. I would recommend this printer. It is a good value. I should have purchased something more similar to what I had.

We bought this printer so we could print our plant tags and it sure does an excellent job. We have no complaints whatsoever with this printer...in fact, I can not say enough good things about it. All our printers, scanners and faxes are BROTHER and we will never use anything else. The reliability, cost of ink, and speed make this printer great for businesses, like our Plant Nursery!

I love the quality of the copies, the convenient size of the printer, and the fact that it's a laser printer. There is a "toner saver" mode that I recommend. It doesn't seem to impact the quality of the copies at all. I also recommend the high yield toner cartridge because they last a long time. I have no qualms about recommending this printer.

The first thing I did with this printer was attempt to run off enough pages for around a thousand small comic books, so my experience may not be typical. The toner seems to run out quickly, but thankfully cartridges aren't too expensive. I might have to replace the drum pretty soon too. Despite the heavy workload, the printer has so far cooperated pretty well! If one was using this printer for typical day to day printing and not a few thousand pages worth of comics, it's a perfect combination of low cost and nice quality.

It’s basic easy to setup and operate and does exactly what it says. It prints out quick convenient and clean. I’ve had this one for three months and could not be happier. If the other one was any indication then this has many more trouble free years to go. Print quality is fine. Rating?-definitely 5 stars.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic, except for limited LED view angle. Owned HL-L2300D for over 5 years. Processed several (10+) cases of Bright White heavy weight printer paper flawlessly. Only benefit to upgrading would be to choose one of the newer models which offer an adjustable LED screen which can be be viewed from either straight on or even below, as I must place the printer/scanner on a shelf at eye level. Must climb up on wheeled chair to view down on fixed upward facing LED screen. Fine for table top, but not for home users with limited desk space.

To me, the Brother name has always been synonymous with consistent quality, reliability, and affordability. As expected, this model was easy to set up, easy to operate, and the print quality is crystal clear! Although my printer needs are basic with this particular model, I was impressed with the additional features available on the other Brother models. All in all, I am extremely happy with this purchase!

Brother replaced the new printer with a year old factory reconditioned printer. The year old printer seems to be working fine after printing about two dozen documents. I cannot give the original printer more than one star. So far, the year old printer is good, and I would give it 5 stars. I don't understand why a new product would be replaced with a product a year older.

Compact in size, which was really important for me. I did have a problem in getting a new toner cartridge from working, and customer service was incredible!! This time even though the installation was not user friendly(this shouldn’t be rocket science I was able to get everything loaded on a Windows 10 operating system, but experienced the same trouble trying to installl on a Windows 7 operating system, despite turning off all the security and firewalls. So basically in order to print anything the document has to be moved to the Windows 10 computer then printed from there. An incredible waste of time and inconvenience. Support was of absolutely no help, and I’m still not able to use the fax feature

(Had not had one before, but other Brother products I was satisfied with. I love it. We were talking at work the other day, and I asked if anyone had ever had a paper feed problem or other irritation with it. Both said no. Because I loved my home unit so well, I ordered two more for work. We have large, color, complicated printers for many things. But sometimes just a near-by desktop does the job. And our Brothers do it well, every time!

Also mine stopped working after 4 years with minimal use and no apparent damage (I didn’t drop it, no power outage, etc. It was legitimately working one day and blinking all the lights the next. At this point it’s cheaper to just buy a new one. Overall solid printer, used it all of college, but frustrating that all of a sudden it stopped working while in like-new condition.

Wanted a duplex feature for a new printer and this works perfectly. My husband loved its features and had a lot of trouble installing his and had to replace, but mine worked out of the box without difficulty. The cat loves the flat, slightly warm top to sleep on, so I gave her a pad to keep cat hairs out of the printer.

It looked just like my old one on the surface. But I still love it in my office. I plan on purchasing another wireless one soon, so I can carry my laptop to the other room and print elsewhere.

The cartridges inevitably would dry up before I could use them for any significant length of time. My contact person in our IT department said to get a printer with a Toner Cartridge. So I did that and I'm happy with it. I will say that I miss having a copier at my house and that was one thing my other printer allowed me to have.

I've not had any problems, but as I experienced with another Brother printer, if you call their customer service personnel you can expect caring individuals. They will assist you in every respect. I would recommend this printer if I was given the opportunity.

Whoever is reading this review, you probably know that it is suppose to print, but clearly whoever made it doesn't know. No amount of trouble shooting can make this printer work. Every online tutorial is completely useless. I've changed computers, cords, documents, document type and literally every variable. The only thing that doesn't work is the useless printer.

Once printing it is relatively fast. Both side printing is easily attained saving paper. It is compact and fits into a small space which I have. Hooking it up to my network was easy making it possible to print from other computers. It would have been nice if it had wireless printing also. I definitely would have paid a little more for it. Overall I am glad I bought it.

This L2300D does the job very well. It also is economical to printing if you you are not interested in color or graphics. It's not wi-fi, wireless either. Which works for me. I am pleased with the performance and print quality.

Brother was the one most recommended and I'm so glad it's in my home office now! I did not need to print in color so this black and white printer is ideal for my needs. Its paper tray holds plenty and the printing is clear and dark - perfect for me!

Bought this printer and have had not problems. Always quick and easy so fancy settings for do-dads just straight forward great quality. Would recommend to anyone needing a printer.

It has a large paper capacity and reliable paper feed. Print is clear and crisp. My jprevious Brother printer gave me 15 years of service before I gave it to a neighbor, still working! I'm hoping this one will do the same.

I gave the first to my nephew when I moved because it was a super workhorse, easy to set up, easy to use, easy to maintain. I bought the second as soon as I was in my new house and it's proven just as reliable as the first. When I go for color, I'll be looking for a Brother.

It was a no brainer to set up with a USB connection. It makes perfect copies. Most of what I need to print doesn't require color, so this excellent value is perfect for my needs and my budget.

Although monochrome, I find the laser technology more cost efficient than the cartridge technology of other printers where it is necessary to frequently replace the cartridges quite frequently at considerable cost and inconvenience. For a small business, a laser printer is essential and this printer stands out as a winner for me.

Initial toner cartridge should have more toner but all in all I am very satisfied. Great for personal use and home office. Threw out my ink jet. Ink jets consumables are too costly. Laser is the way to go. Price was also great.

When I got the printer, I found that my computer is "too old" to use the correct drivers. I certainly cannot afford to replace my computer. So I tried downloading other drivers in the hopes one would work. I did find one that seems to work well. Still, I don't really know if I am getting everything out of my printer. I am happy with the purchase, but wish I had known about the compatibility issue before purchasing.

The print speed is wonderful. I have yet to change my formats to different settings, so I don't know much about other aspects. I did find the canister to open the paper tray to be somewhat delicate. I am careful about that.

I am way too old to deal with the intimidation of the computer age much less deal with a printer that works occasionally. I have found in the Brother a printer that just works and is simple enough to for me to operate. The folks that helped me set up were wonderful and I understood every word they said. After I realized I didn't really need color printing I also realized I could get to an ultra-low cost-per-page level with something like this. Very happy for making the swap. Of course this unit does not scan/copy, but I have a separate SnapScan for that. And I use an online faxing service, so I am not missing that function.

When making a volume of copies over 20, it frequently stops in the middle of the job. This happens whether we are making one sided copies or utilizing the duplexing features. We must baby sit the machine on large copy jobs, because it requires us to frequently open and close the paper supply door in order for the machine to finish the job. We have tried adjusting the amount of paper in the paper tray and it has had no effect on the machine's operation. Had it not been for this problem the machine would have received a much higher rating, as it does make great quality copies.

Many companies sell you printers near cost then make profit on ultra expensive ink. This printer is fairly priced and Ink for this printer is reasonable especially from secondary vendors.

LOVE IT Had a paper feeder jam after the connection to my computer was accidentally interrupted went on YouTube couldn't find anything searched the internet found the brother website which redirected me back to a Brother support YouTube video. It explained process of clearing the jam easily and completely. Love my HL-L2300D.

No networking capabilities, no on-board LCD display, no wi-fi, but when it comes to key issues -- speed, image-quality, affordable toner, ease of set-up and installation -- it's a total winner. Its compact size is a plus, too. And a wonderful bonus is its ability to handle duplex (2-sided) printing automatically -- a great paper-saver. I've owned a number of Brother printers over the years, and this is by far the best and least expensive. A note on pricing: the street price fluctuates a lot (just check out Amazon's price history), as much as 30%, so keep your eyes on its current offering price, and strike when the iron is hot.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great! Except when offline, which is 98% of time This machine cannot stay connected to a WiFi network. I have a beast of a WiFi router and the printer is about 15 feet away. But it just goes to sleep and appears offline. The troubleshooting page has about 10 different solutions. You could spend a couple hours trying them or you may decide that life is short, recite a few choice expletives and do something more productive with your time. My phone stays connected to my wifi. Why can't this printer?

Tried to find a brother help phone with no luck. Emailed them and they sent me stock instructions from their website which I had already read several times. Printer will only print, not copy. Finally got so frustrated I threw it out and ordered an HP printer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Knows how to Sleep real well. I've had this printer for 5 months. Read thru the whole manual then set it up. Did 1 printing job and it was fine. Didn't touch it after that for an hour. Came back to print some more and it was like the printer forgot how to print. Over the next 2 months I spent most of my time uninstalling the Brothers drivers and software and then re-installing it all over again. When it did finally decide to print from then on I had to make sure it remembered settings. The feature that annoyed me the most was the printer's penchant for sleep. I had the setting put on as many minutes as I could and still it went to sleep. And waking it up was like getting a teenager to get out of bed. Sometimes the lights flashed and stayed lit. Maybe it was ready. Believe it or not, by the time I turned around, checked to be sure the settings were right it still managed to nap before it received the print job. Let me be clear. I bought a Brother laser printer and doing my research. I figured there was value in their products. I learned 2 things. I'll never buy another Brother product. And my next printer will not have a sleep feature. They claimed it was a power saving feature. In an odd sort of way they may be right. If you don't use the product I guess you could call that power saving. DO NOT buy this particular printer. NOT recommended.
