Probably more than you need for PC speakers but they sound great and don't take up a lot of room. On occasion I move them to the kitchen and rock out on Bayern 1 while cooking.

I like the sound these speakers produce. The built-in amplifier is able to produce significant volume with minimum distortion. What I don't like is that there is no light indicator to show that the speakers are turned on.
These are good desktop computer speakers, but they are definitely overpriced.

Definitely not up to par for for orchestral, strings, or any type chamber or classical music.
If loud room-skating bass is desired, these are the speakers to order. If, however, authenticity, and subtleties of speaking voices and instrumental music are important they are extremely poor, especially for classical or any type orchestral music.

Very good, reasonably priced speakers with sound quality bigger than their size. The speakers have an on/off switch, which is necessary for power savings and the life of the product but there is no light to remind the user of their on/off status. Overall it seems like a good product with longevity TBD.

Very nice quality speakers. When I received my new computer I bought some cheap USB speakers and I guess it's true - you get what you pay for. After living with them for a few days I just realized I needed an upgrade. The Bose Companion 2 series speakers are light years ahead of those cheap speakers. Nice quality sound - excellent build quality.

Excellent Small Speakers
I bought these to replace a Sony amp and bookshelf speakers that took up a lot of room on my computer desk. I've been around stereo equipment since I was a teenager, many years ago and Bose was always a good product. They are compact, yet the sound if bigger than you think can come out of such a small speaker. I would recommend then to anyone looking for a solid made speaker

Great set of desktop speakers. The base is not as strong as I would have like it to be but for the price and performance it’s unrivaled at this price point. Installation was simple and fast. Had a small glitch in which everything was powered on but the speakers were not producing sound, I found out later it was operator error. Other than that great set, would recommend and if my house ever got flooded or burned down and I needed a new sweet of speakers would definitely buy again.

One of the Best Desktop Speakers from Bose
This is my 2nd set of Bose Companion 2 Series III desktop speakers purchased from Dell. I have used the first set for work for the past few years, and I now have this set for my personal laptop (after upgrading my personal laptop from Dell Inspiron to Alienware m15 r7 laptop this year) as well. This product has been working "very well" with clear & crisp sound quality for me, and I strongly recommend it to someone who is looking for a "muti-purpose" desktop/laptop speaker product which is durable in built-quality & stable/premium in sound-quality (from conference calls at work - to personally watching video clips online). I am cautious when it comes to lower priced speakers. I took a chance - was not disappointed. Sound produced at the computer is wonderful. Do recommend using an equalizer so you can tweak. Would not use for a party - not enough power.

Ok, if your port is in the right spot.
They’re ok little speakers, just not worth the price in my opinion. There was occasional popping, seemingly from the use of the audio jack as it would intensify if moved. Honestly, that is what caused me to return the speakers. The fact that they only used the 3.5mm audio connection and there was no USB option. My port for such a cable is located on the front of my PC and I couldn’t stand the cable having to reach around my system and behind the monitor. This permanent bend looked like it would quickly wear out the cable and ruin this set of speakers.

Full rich sound
I recently bought these speakers and I am so happy that I did. They yield a big, full, rich sound. A perfect balance of bass . With my old speakers I used to have a hard time understanding what the words are, because of the the high pitched sounds. I truly do not have that experience with these. I am planning on buying several more sets for my family members. I recommend Bose to anyone.

Usual compliant many people may have for small speakers is the lack of bass. But for this one, the bass is very heavy. Boomy may be another word you could use. The high frequency response is also dull.

Adequate, middle of the road
I bought this originally for audio from a modern player piano system. Not volume enough for this application. Plugged into my MacBook it is better suited but still the volume range is limited. As others have mentioned a power ON light would be helpful. The Left speaker performs fine but the Right/main controller speaker is uneven stereo and barely makes a sound, but, plugged into my iPod it works fine. All cables check out fine so I suppose the Mac has output problems but still work fine with headphones.

Great speakers for the first year
The first year of having my Bose speakers they worked great. High quality sound. I was very impressed and glad I made the purchase. After a year and perhaps not even that long, I noticed a soft humming. The humming noise has progressively gotten louder such that it is hard to hear the music over them. So I have to give these speakers a low rating due to durability over time.

I got Bose Companion 2 3 months back and waited clearly for today to write out this. It has been an epic investment I made and this certainly helps me unwind after long tired days. The sound literally oozes between the speakers and the bass, echo etc are so good that I put them on every time. Every single song.

i bought this as a companion to my computer to really hear good sounds for my streaming movies. i have bose speakers because of the superlative sound that they give. i have 901's, two sets of 201's, 301's, and a cinemate surround sound sound system. so naturally,i went to bose companion 2 series III to expect the same. boy was i blown away, love them.

Great sounding speakers, but I don't care for the slanted top, I'd prefer a flat top. Also, I wish it had a on/off LED light. The electrical plug-in has a loose fit and will fall out of an adaptor.

The high quality audio sounds like there are more speakers connected.
Music has a mellow sound and with clean Bass that sounds like it is from a larger speaker.

Never understood why Bose is so expensive in general, but I bought these at a good price and they are entirely satisfactory. I'm computer challenged, so I carefully studied the instructions before replacing my old $20 USB powered speakers on my new Dell XPS desktop. The packing and instructions were among the best I have ever seen, and "troubleshooting" saved the day. My old speakers had no base, but a sharp clear upper range and very clear speaking voices. When I first installed the Bose speakers, the sound was terrible. Trouble shooting instructions to the rescue: Bose says the sound level on the computer must be 75% max, (and use the volume control knob on the speakers)--turns out it had to be closer to 25%, and then magically the sound on Bose improved to very good--but not extremely good for small speakers. I do wonder if part of the problem is the stock sound card in my computer. And I wish there was a way to adjust the frequencies--turning up the volume emphasizes base too much and tends to push treble aside. Overall, though, good speakers with a great brand name.

I expected to buy a Bose and even if it wasn't loud, I thought the sound WOULD be great - nope. Don't waste your money if you are a music lover like me anyway. No service tag was available for this product - send directly from Bose, I THINK.

I am a big fan of Bose. I own a Wave II, a SoundTouch 20, and now these desk top speakers. Like Apple, Bose seems to attract people who love them, and people who hate them and think they are over-priced. I am firmly in the "love them" camp. Maybe its not universal, but to me Bose speakers sound "just right." They don't even need bass and treble controls - they are perfect right out of the box.

Wired system easy to install. Two significant flaws: 1) The cable connecting one speaker to the other is too short, as several other reviewers have pointed out; 2) The plug-in outlet for the headset --main reason why I purchased this particular set-- does not work, at least in my set, so I ended up having to run another USB cable to the computer.

Some of the best desktop speakers I have ever bought.
Just bought a new computer and noticed that the discount speakers I bought with them were starting to crackle and get distorted on one side. Knowing that I would have to buy new speakers I started shopping around. Knowing that the speakers in my car were from Bose and have always sounded good I shopped around and bought this pair. Still sound amazing coming up on a month or two later.

These are great speakers. I love that I can adjust the volume to where I need it. I did have to go online to learn how to access tone control on the computer. I do not like a lot of base when I am listening to someone speak. Once I found that it was an easy fix.

Sounds a little flat to be honest, I have Bose headphones that sound a lot better, but that said, they cost 3 times as much as these. For the price, these speakers are solid but are not going to blow you away with their sound quality. However, I can play music, videos, and games using these speakers and they do not disappoint. However, if you want to get fully immersed into what you are listening to, you will want to spend at least 3 times more and get some hardware that can deliver what you would want and expect.
I would give it a 3 star rating for sound quality, but given the price, it was worth an extra star. Note that I pay really close attention to the sound clarity, strong bass, and how the speakers perform for different needs (e.g. music, videos, games, conference calls, etc.)

I am amazed at how clear and vibrant these Bose speakers are. I am very pleased because for years I have had the speakers that came with a previous computer and they were inferior. Those old speakers always had static and at higher volume they lacked sound quality. With the Companion 2 Series by Bose, the quality at lower or higher volume is excellent. In my opinion, they are worth the money!

i've had my speakers for almost TEN years. we are avid bose fans and owners. we've had the 901s for something like 20 years and they're still kickin'. and we also own the lifestyle 12 for about 10 years. i've had these companion 2 speakers for a long time and they've travelled with me all over the world and i've had them plugged into all kinds of computers. the style is sleek and timeless (the original grey). the sound is just now starting to go out on the right speaker. i use them almost daily since my computer is my main source of music in my house. i will be replacing and upgrading when i get the chance.

I received the Bose Companion two for a Birthday gift. I love these speakers--perfect for music--movies and talk show radio on my computer. The sound is lush and strong without too much bass. The speakers are perfect for a small room. The sound is relaxing and not overpowering.

Best speakers for desktop. Great balanced-clear sound for music and videoconferencing. The most important is that with this wired speakers I don’t have anymore Bluetooth audio delay. This speakers are replacing my Bose Soundbar 500, which worked only via Bluetooth, and the audio delay was bad.

Overall they are good speakers if you just want some sound that's better quality than your PC or laptop. But if you want to go a little louder and really enjoy some music while you work, or if your works involves audio, this set is not adequate. Flat and "tinny", with no way to tweak it. You're paying for the brand name, not the capability of the set.

This is my first foray into Bose's lineup. After having owned them for about 2 weeks, I have to admit that I'm very satisfied. This simple 2.0 setup delivers clear, powerful sound. The highs and mids are clear across a variety of genres, and the bass is done well for a non 2.1 system (each of the speakers has a small bass vent at the back). They can also get reasonably loud (think movie in a large living room). I think the best part about them is that they're quite portable too, if you want to move them from your work desk to the TV or something. And from what I've heard about Bose products, they're also reasonably priced(?), which should help seal the deal.

Love these little speakers.
I've owned several computer stereo speaker systems in the $40-80 range (Including systems with subs, which I detest due to an unnecessarily complex signal path) and was very pleased to experience the audio quality put out by these units at only marginally more money. The bass response in these speakers is excellent - far better than the passive radiator or "ported mazes" other manufacturers use to boost low frequencies. Even at low volumes, the bass is clear. Nice job, Bose!

They're very high quality and have pretty good sound for desktop speakers. I love the volume dial and the 3.5mm jack on the front. They work great for what I use them for (Music, YouTube, movies, etc.) I have also transported them in my suitcase several times and they still work perfectly for over a year.

Good, but one question
Like any other customer, these Bose Companion 2's are amazing. Best and only speakers I've had so far! One question though. I play Minecraft, and I'm about to start my channel. For my microphone, I'm using Turtle Beach Xp 7. I plugged it in and the headset works, but the sound isn't coming out of the speakers. Is there a way that I can set my computer (Qosmio) to where the sound can come out of the speakers and headset? Or do I need some sort of 3rd program of device for that? If you have an answer, thanks for responding. If it works, thanks a LOT.

Unfortunately the "speaker" that came with my Inspiron AIO DT 5490 was absolute junk so I had to get this set of speakers to make up for it. These speakers provide easy to plug and play, and the sound quality is pretty good. I don't think I would pay full price, but I had some credits w/ Dell for using Dell financing so only paid thirty-ish dollars.

Excellent sound and build quality, and easy setup: very satisfied especially for the price. Only complaint: could use longer audio cables out of the box. Depending on your desk layout it may be difficult to put the right speaker on the right and the left one on the left because of cable length restrictions.

The speakers are a nice pair. I purchased them to complement my new Alienware Aurora R11 PC and thinking that for just under a hundred bucks for a Bose speaker system it should be great. The speakers have no feedback noise that I could detect, which is really great. Sometimes after shutting down my PC, I forget that my speakers were even on. The sound quality is "OK". It sounds a bit flat when compared to my Logitech Z506 surround system. Overall, it's an ok buy, but I know sometime later (more sooner than later), I will be upgrading to a surround system again.

These speakers are brilliant for the price. The only negative thing I could think of is that the size of the speakers, and the wires make the set seem a bit outdated. They are reminiscent of average speakers from ~2005. However that is all made up for in quality of sound. The crispness of the audio is not underrated. The sound is incredible.

The speakers sound good when playing music but have too much base when trying to listen to someone speaking. There is no treble / base control or adjustments to the sound other than volume.

My first review of the speakers Dell asked me to review could not be approved because it "mentions a competitor." The only two competitors I mentioned originally were Dell and the brand of the speaker that Dell sold me with my new computer. Then Dell sent me an e-mail asking me to review the speakers that Dell sent me with me with my new computer. Turns out the speakers work fine with another computer I have, but they won't work on my new Dell computer. I'm not sure why but suspect that it might have something to do with the fact that my new Dell computer does not seem to recognize the speakers Dell sold me. On the control panel under speakers, it just lists the Realtek speakers. I think Realtek is the soundcard. So maybe Dell sold me a bad sound card or a soundcard that is not compatible with the upgraded speakers that Dell sold me. Either way, I am not improving the review for these speakers, which should be published on the Dell website, until the speakers work. Dell sold me speakers for a Dell computer and they don't work on the Dell computer. Maybe I should have reviewed the Dell computer instead.

I am giving them 1 star because I haven't had a chance to try them yet! I am STILL waiting for the PC that I ordered to hook them to! Not even close to the original promised delivery date. I understand the issues with COVID-19, but don't promise a delivery date that you know you can't meet!

These broke within maybe 20 hours of use. There is no way to open up the speakers to check the wire connections without cutting apart all of the housing. Once they've come disconnected inside they are ruined and can't be salvaged. I had an older pair of computer speakers that lasted me ten years, these Bose speakers were a gift and I'm so sad I replaced my older speakers with this junk. Designed obsolescence.

One of the speakers had a hole in the grill and there is some white crud dried on the face plate. It came right out of the factory box like that, not a returned used item. Very shoddy quality control.
On top of that I had to correspond with three levels of incompetence at Bose, all three people did not properly read my emailed complaint. Bose has in the past built their reputation on excellence, I did not see any of that with this purchase.
I’m not spending any more money on Bose products.

I use to think Bose speakers were great UNTIL I purchased this system. These speakers Suck! A cheap set of other speakers work better, really. Volume bad, base bad, treble bad. I sold them for a loss to my neighbor to get rid of them.

I have been using these for about a month or so now and love them. The speakers have a good clean sound...no tinniness - just a great clear sound. How else can I describe them? They look extremely nice and they will be a pleasure to listen to for many years to come.

While the sound is full, which is typical of Bose products, these seem a bit bass heavy, which makes spoken dialogue sometimes difficult to hear clearly over sound tracks without adjusting the volume. Music however is fabulous.

I was sold on the name. But, when I plugged the speakers in, I was disappointed. There's no richness in the sound. The further away you sit from the speakers, the better the quality. It's not feasible to sit right up on the speakers like if you are sitting at a desk. There no bass in the quality as as well. I'm glad I didn't spend that much for them. I would not recommend spending the money asked.

Found these speakers yo be quite anemic as far as sound quality. Yes they are not expensive. And listening quality is something you don't care about, then go for these but if you do like listening to music as i do, pay more and bump up to a better set. I found these so terrible, i packed them back in tbe box and reinstalled my old speakers from my original 2002 Dell purchase.

These BOSE speakers replaced a pair of Harman Kardon 195's, I have had since buying my first Dell desktop in 1998. They have performed well since, except the last couple years I was hearing some static. So I bought these to go with my new Dell desktop. The "clarity "is noticeable immediately. For me there is enough bass to "feel it" when I crank up the volume. Not the over powering base you get with the high watt auto or woofer stuff. They work fine with the Realtek audio drivers installed to accommodate my old speakers with the new Windows 10. The Dell installed Waves Maxxaudio pro software enhances the selected play backs as well. I have used these Bose for about 6 weeks now. They worked immediately without any install of drivers or other software. Keep in mind we all hear sounds differently and have are own preferences. -- ( to just comment on some reviews that did not like these as much) Play back of piano, disco and voice "dominant music" showed the overall sound improvement for me.

I was hesitant to get these speakers for my computer after reading some reviews about not having a woofer, but I'm glad I bought them. They have great sound for as small as they are. My previous speakers had a woofer and these speakers blow the olds ones out of the water!
I get great sound listening to music or watching videos/movies. The sound is rich and room filling and exactly what you would expect from Bose.
The only gripe I can come up with would be that I wish they Aux jack for other devices was in the front of the speaker instead of the back. Oh, and I wish it was blue tooth!
Overall, I'm very pleased with these speakers and their performance.

I was not expecting these speakers to sound as good as they do. I wanted a decent set of PC speakers without a sub to produce warm and clear sound. Well, that's exactly what I got. They sound great at any volume. And they do get very loud. Even at low level, the amount of warm bass and clarity is just amazing.
There is no physical sound adjustments on the speakers themselves. So you must rely on your sound cards equalizer to tweak your sound.
The included audio cable to connect the right speaker to the computer is a little short. With my setup having my computer to my left, I had to shift every over a couple of inches to have it reach my computer. So depending your setup, you may need to buy a longer audio cable.
I think the asking price is fair given the performance of these speakers. Don't let the lack of a sub keep you from considering these speakers.
For point of reference, I mainly use these speakers for music in an apartment. I listen to just about anything but rap and country.

Recently purchased these speakers to go along with my new all in one 230 Dell Desktop. The sound quality of these speakers is awful. With the name of Bose I expected very good sound quality instead I received nothing more than the standard Dell speaker quality. I am trying to return these presently.

GREAT SOUND - LITTLE BASS
I gave them a 5 because they sound fantastic. They have little bass but I expected that. I took speakers with a sub woofer off the system because of clutter. They sound good. If you want bass, they don't have it. Still a 5 star on sound though.

I recently purchased a new Dell EPS desktop with Ultra HD screen etc and the best part of my purchase is the Bose speakers.
Excellent tone and depth of sound. My only negative is that it is not wireless however I was aware of this prior to purchase.

Couldn't be happier with the Bose Companion 2's I bought for my computer. I've purchased Bose products in the past and wanted that true Bose sound for my computer. I enjoy listening to music and streaming videos on my computer and the Companion 2's give me the big sound and quality acoustics I was looking for. Can't beat that Bose quality sound!!

Balanced sound but glitch in audio cable connectio
When I plug in the audio cable, the speakers buzz unless I plug the cable in only part way to an exact spot. There is also a buzz if I don't turn off the volume control after I stop streaming sound to the speakers. Other than the buzz challenges, I like the speakers. They look good. The sound quality is good when I'm streaming sound, and there is no buzz or static. The balance is good between bass and treble. Treble is clear, bass is complementary and unobtrusive. Human voice sounds strong and natural. The sound is comfortable to listen to.

Who wouldn't enjoy these?!? I have had my set for a while now and I never knew even those annoying windows sounds to be so pleasant. They are truly a joy for anyone who sits at their computer a lot. These are great for online training or anything where volume and clarity are a must. Price is a little pricey but you will never need to buy another set of computer speakers.

LUFFFFF THEM! such deep bass! You cant find anything with a higher high either! the sound quality is superb. Sometimes in my trance music the bass is a little heavy, but hey i love it.

These sound great and get plenty loud since powered by AC power. I still have a pair of Bose 301 Bookshelf speakers from the 1980's. Bose is still producing quality products here in 2021, I see. Convenient volume knob and speaker and power cord lengths.

The plug in jack is very loose and barely holds the plug in the computer. Very time I use the speakers there are large poops, crackling and large volume changes. I don't know if the problem is the speakers or the computer but very time I move the speakers wires the volume has significant noises. Much larger than the music I am listening to.

One minor flaw, in my opinion, is that the volume dial and on/off switch has no painted indicator line on the dial, the indicator shows where the volume or on/off is set. The indicator is a groove that is not easily seen. There should be while paint in the grove for it to be easily visible. Likewise the other markings are difficult to see because they are painted on in flat light gray color.

I just received the speakers and immediately had a problem with the audio cable making noise. A noise that did not occur when I used the cable from the old speakers I was replacing. Once I dialed in the sound balance on my Dell Laptop, the sound was full and warm. Different qualities can be brought out by adjusting the equalization. So, I called Bose, and in minutes I was set to received a new audio cable without any hassle. The speakers are worth it, but for price, one would expect a higher quality gold plated cable. Cables are not that expensive and I could have just bought a better cable, but the cable should have worked. So I wasted some time to make a point. Hopefully someone learns from this.

Amazing sound, all expected features, but just a bit bulkier than I expected. At about 5 inches deep, they were a little harder to work into my desk setup than my previous sound bar. The sound makes them worth it, though.
