Tripp Lite's DNET1 offers network ethernet line surge suppression for 100Base-T, 10Base-T, Token Ring, AS400 / Sys3x and RS422 applications. Convenient RJ45 input and output connections with included 5 inch ethernet patch cable allows convenient placement at the protected device network connection. Surge suppression is handled with balanced arrays of high-speed avalanche diodes that divert excess energies created by electrostatic discharges, faulty wiring or lightning away from network interface connections. Tripp Lite network surge suppressors reduce blown NIC cards, garbled network transmissions, system lock-ups and hard equipment failure by safely shunting dataline surges to ground. Six inch heavy guage grounding lead connects to designated grounding lugs available on the back panel of most network workstations and pieces of internetworking equipment. Lifetime warranty

If you're like me and own a laptop (an expensive one at that) which contains your important information/work data -- and you prefer a wired internet connection where ever possible -- then this light, portable internet suppressor is absolutely essential to ensure the complete electrical protection your computer (when coupled with a portable surge suppressor for your powered connection). Complete protection = peace of mind!

Important peace of mind
It's hard to review something like this because you don't know if it works till disaster strikes. It is very easy to install and gives me so much peace of mind. I only gave it 4 stars because I really don't know how effective it will be with a surge. The price was very reasonable and very compact.
