New Version worse than Original
Like several other reviewers I have used the original Precise Mousing Surface since its introduction. I recently replaced my old mat after nearly 10yrs of fantastic performance with the MP200PS, thinking it was an updated version. What a disappointment!
The concept of the original Precise Mousing Surface was that it had microscopic pyramids that allowed the mouse to glide across it effortlessly, allowing secreted oils from the user's palm to wick away from the points preventing accumulation on the mouse gliding buttons/pads, so the mouse glided smoothly. I probably cleaned the mouse pad once a year despite roughly 10+hrs use every day. The reason I replaced was the sticky underside had lost its grip so the mouse pad started to move around on the desk.
As an IT reseller I used to include the original Precision pad with every installation, users loved them.
The new version clearly lacks the same ground-breaking design and feels no better than any cheap pad. Gunk accumulates quickly, necessitating frequent cleaning of the pad and scraping of the Teflon buttons underneath the mouse (old MS Mouse). The only upside is this one grips the table well.
Why do companies create something fantastic, cheapen it later ... yet still charge the same?

Super practical mouse mat
Still the most practical mouse mat I’ve found. Glides well, easy to take with me, just stick to the laptop lid. Only a couple of mm thick so feels the same as using it on the table. Doesn’t shift about on the desk.
The downside is that it wears out pretty quickly. I go through about 1 or 2 a year, even with PTFE pads on the mouse.
It also accumulates gunk easily on the top side… but this is easily cleaned away with some isopropyl alcohol so doesn’t bother me.
So far, I haven’t needed to clean the bottom of the mat.. but I’m only taking it to my office.. not using it in cafes or public spaces.

Very good, but how do you clean it?
It's a great mouse pad, but I need to clean the underside, the adhesive side. Others have asked below and been ignored, please answer.
I use the pad as illustrated in the marketing material, I stick it to the back of my laptop when going to work and home but it has completely lost it's adhesive and due to it's lightweight and portable design (which I love) it is now useless. Is there any way to clean it? or to reapply the adhesive? Or is it a consumable? Just let us know pease.

Wears out rapidly!
I bought this 3/18. By 6/18 it has worn smooth and is useless as a mouse pad. In the past I had used the "3M Precision Mousing Surface" which is no longer available. This cheap mouse pad replacement is not even worth the money it costs if it only lasts 2-3 months.

Great enhancement for Magic Mouse
As a graphic designer this mouse pad really helps with my apple magic mouse, smooth and precise movements. I only wish there was a larger size, perhaps 4x as large or the ability to seamlessly tile them! LOL

The updated product wears out quick
I am very disappointed to 3M. I loved this product, and I have been using this product for years. However, somehow they changed their product and surface without updating their picture (the one I received has red 3M mark on the right bottom). The updated one wears out very quick-the hard surface becomes slippery within 3 months. I ordered several MP200PS but I was unable to get the old one, which is shown on the picture (black 3M mark on center bottom). I need 3M to tell me what's going on with this product. "Why 3M updated the product without updating the picture? In addition, it is much worse than the old one."

Great mouse surface
This is the best mousing surface I have ever used. It stays clean and is very durable.
The best feature is the ability to lift and re-adhere to without any glue or mess.
For the price, you won't find a better mouse pad

Exactly what I was looking for
Exactly what I was looking for: a mousepad that doesn't shed any fibers or particulate matter and can be used in a cleanroom. Thin and can be stuck onto a surface. The package says it can be unstuck for repositioning, though I have not had a reason to do that yet.

Best mouse pad ever
A review of a mousepad? How much of a difference is there after all.
Well, this one is better than any I've used since mice showed up on the scene. I use Maya 3D animation software, and a pad makes a big difference when you need speed and precision.
This 3M pad is very smooth, it is very thin, it comes with a good adhesive (3M knows something about adhesives) to keep it from sliding around.
I do add a few layers of tape in front of the pad to keep the mouse from catching on the edge.
I've had a number of these on different machines for months already, no problems at all.
