Firewall cards embed security at the true edge of the LAN to safeguard against intrusion, tampering, and corruption
3Com Firewall Desktop and Server PCI Cards are the broadly available hardware level firewalls available in a PCI Card form factor. This means that you can protect individual “at-risk” server and desktop machines with hardware firewall protection.
The solution is centrally managed, so the security policy in place on each Firewall Card is determined by the administrator of the system and cannot be modified or disabled by the end user, or by malicious code. 3Com Firewall PCI Cards are part of the 3Com Embedded Firewall Solution and work with the 3Com Embedded Firewall Policy Server. The security administrator manages device sets and determines the policy through the policy server.
Several updates to the solution were made with the Embedded Firewall Policy Server version 1.5 release (required for the Desktop and Server Firewall PCI Card products).
These updates include:
A full fallback policy when the card is unable to connect to the Policy Server
Policy updates can now be made through a VPN connection to the Policy Server. This enables use of the desktop card in a remote telecommuter machine.
In addition, these products include a bundled Embedded Firewall Client License. Unlike the Embedded Firewall 1.0 products, the 3Com Firewall PCI Cards will not require the purchase of a separate client license for each card. The Policy Server will recognize these devices as pre-licensed.
Key Features and Messages:
3Com Embedded Firewall: Firewall cards embed security at the true edge of the LAN to safeguard against intrusion, tampering, and corruption.
Hardware-based security: Operates transparent to operating systems and end users, making security extremely resistant to tampering or corruption.
Standards-based, complementary solution: Enhances traditional security solutions— including perimeter firewalls, network monitoring, DMZ subnets, and anti-virus programs.
Onboard security processor: Works with Windows XP and 2000 operating systems to offload TCP/IP, IPSec, and firewall functions from host CPU—resulting in optimal system performance.
10/100 auto negotiation: Auto sensing, full duplex link delivers security along with Fast Ethernet throughputs.
Advanced bus technologies: Pipelines data transfer and streamlines processing tasks for faster system and application response.
Reliability and service: Includes Three-Year Limited warranty and unlimited web-based technical support that includes the 3Com Knowledgebase web service; extended service contracts available.
3Com Embedded Firewall Policy Server: Configures and enforces global security (available separately) policies without end-user intervention to boost security; helps lower support costs as well.
Remote wake up Enables IT managers to wake up and administer sleeping desktops and servers from a central console.Firmware-upgradeable platform: 3Com Firewall PCI Cards are firmware upgradeable, maximizing the flexibility of your security hardware.
Windows 2000 or XP operating system required for offload capabilities.
‡The 3Com Embedded Firewall Policy Server (sold separately) is required for security policy and firewall management capabilities
