Product Reviews
Rated 3.9 out of 5 by 9reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Significantly improved!! Zagg is awesome! Bought the Slim Book (aluminum grey) and like several others within a couple of weeks the magnetic hinge was breaking...an obvious design flaw. Contacted them and the replacement is being sent...no hassle. Hoping the new design is functional as well as durable. December 22, 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by Very good setup for Ipad Pro I really like the slim book pro but I wish that the metal plate that holds up the screen had some rubber around the edge like the other version. I had had it scratch some of my tables. Other than being careful where I use it, it is very good. December 20, 2016
Rated 3 out of 5 by Very functional, but battery no so good The product is very functional, lightweight, and reasonably priced. But the battery leaves a lot to be desired. I sent two back and am on my third one. All the same. Advertised battery time is way short. I have gone out of my way to make sure the key board is turned off, but after using ~ 6 hours (keyboard backlight off), the keyboard battery dies after ~ 3 weeks of non-use. I do not have this problem with my ZAGG keyboard I bought many years ago for my mini-Ipad. ZAGG has been great at replacing the keyboards, but I have come to realize "it is what is". Recommend if you understand that the battery does not live up to expectations. November 29, 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by For the most part I love this I really love the concept of this keyboard but I do have issues with the fact that I cant just put the keyboard on the back of the case to have it in "book" mode. Having to take the keyboard off and put it somewhere constantly is sort of stressful. November 8, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Greatly improved! I had purchased the Slimbook for the iPad Pro this summer, and the case started to break after two months of use. After contacting Zagg, they immediately sent a replacement, and this newer one is significantly improved. I love the pencil holder, and the hinge is no longer plastic. November 1, 2016
Rated 2 out of 5 by Slim Book Hinge Fail This unit was replaced by Zagg support June 2016, and one of the two hinge pins of the replacement unit has broken off, allowing my iPad Pro 9.7 to fall on the floor when I opened it.The first unit was almost as bad, with the iPad  just popping out of the hinge due to design problems.  The hinge is stiff to support the different positions, but the encapsulating hinge and pin system appears to be the problem. All other features of the Slim Book are as advertised and work well, but the hinge problem is a no go! Rated 5 out of 5 by Perfect fit I just received my Slim Book Pro, and after reading several reviews, the ones on this site included, I was actually a little worried.I am, and have been a HUGE fan of the Zagg Slim Book (regular not for ipad pro) for a couple of years. Amazing function and convenience and superb battery life. I have basically told everyone I know with an iPad to get one. When I got my ipad Pro 9.7, I was a little underwhelmed putting it into a regular slim book - the extremely minor size difference made the "shut off screen when ipad closes" function not work. I also never know what to do with the Apple PencilI immediately began looking for something to accommodate. I found the Slim Book Pro (SBP) on Zagg's website pretty shortly after looking and was, at first, very intrigued, but it was sold out. It became available this eek and I ordered it right away. Then I started seeing the negative reviews. I feared about how heavy it might be, the bluetooth not working, how hard it would be to flip down the stand - all of the things that the previous reviewer and others complained about. None of these things proved to be of concern at all.Weight - it is nominally heavier than the regular Slim Book. I have my girlfriend's ipad Air 2 in a Slim Book right now, and when I hold them both, I can barely tell a difference. If weight of the ipad is a concern or you - don't get a functional keyboard case, they add weight to it.Size, it is also barely larger than the Slim Book. I put this next to the Air 2 in Slim Book and the length and thickness don't change. It is a touch wider because of the magnetic connector. This was a large concern for me. I travel A LOT. I have a Timbuk2 messenger back which has a padded slot for the ipad that in a regular Slim Book, fits great. I was worried that this extra width would make it not fit. Result: It still fits great.Bluetooth Connectivity: I'll be honest, it did not connect right away. I turned my ipad off and then back on and it did, though. No connection problems since. AND, the keyboard tends to power on and be more responsive than the Slim Book.Stand/Hinge: More than one review of the SBP mentioned how stiff it was and how you "had to use a fingernail" to open it. I think this is an issue with their fingers, not with the SBP. The hinge is easy to open from the left (when horizontal) side of the case with my thumb, or other finger if I chose to do so. The "stiffness" is also what makes the ipad stand comfortably. I like that. It actually feels sturdier than the Slim Book, where after some time of continuing to open and close it, those hinges would tend to wiggle a bit, especially when you touched the screen with it open. I cannot comment on how this hinge holds up over time and frequent openings, but the stiffness seems to be a plus towards a positive goal. There is one downside to the advertised features: The Mophie Power App. The App is fine... it just is not necessary. With iOS 10, if you chose to view battery life in your lock screen (or by swiping right from your first screen while open) The ipad shows you the battery percentage of the ipad itself, the apple pencil, and the SBP, thus the Mophie App is pretty useless, although it did setup and work just fine.I would recommend this to anyone who has a 9.7 inch ipad pro that loves the original Slim Book. Improvements all around. And to ease another concern: I wrote half of this review with the SBP - half of it on my lap, and the other half with it sitting on a leather ottoman. Typing is no problem and it is well supported. October 28, 2016
Rated 2 out of 5 by Great idea in theory but... I have been a Zagg user for years and still have two keyboards for my iPad 3 - a Zagg Pro and a Zagg Folio. I have loved those units and found them excellent.I recently purchased a new iPad Pro 9.7 and the first thing I went looking for was a Zagg keyboard solution for it. I found the Slim Book Pro and thought it was exactly what I needed. Well, my new SBP arrived today and I certainly like the idea of it, as well as the feel of the keys' action on the keyboard, and its size. However, this unit - the SBP - adds a SIGNIFICANT amount of weight to the iPad. It takes what is an extremely lightweight tablet and turns it into the weight of a MacBook Pro. It adds marginal thickness but that's not so bothersome. Even when using just the tablet in its Slim Book case with the keyboard separated, the iPad weighs almost twice its naked weight. Adding the keyboard close to doubles that. The Apple Pencil holder is a bit loose and adds a fair amount of size (height) to the overall profile, and since it's on one side makes it a little odd such that you can only lay the closed bundle on the keyboard side. Slipping it into a brief case with the Pencil attached is both awkward and risks losing the Pencil in the process. Finally, the Bluetooth paring on the keyboard is an annoying challenge that is often times completely unsuccessful. To get the paired keyboard to reconnect to the iPad sometimes requires turning the Bluetooth feature off and back on on the iPad, keyboard, or both. And sometimes it works... There's no way to tell what you're going to get even if repeating the same process every time. This intermittentcy is more frustrating that not working at all. And I've only been able to get the keyboard to pair and connect with my iPad and an old iPod 5; every else - Apple TV, Kindle Fire TV are a complete bust as the keyboard nor the other device wil see each other. And occasionally, even with a strong battery it will miss a key press or worse just start keying in repeated spaces on its own with no way to stop it or regain control outside of powering it off and back on.On the positive side, the stand on the back of the iPad case seems handy, especially for use when separated from the keyboard. Albeit, the hinge is extremely stiff and heavy, and the stand takes up a lot of room - much more than the older units with the trough that held the iPad in place did - when attached to the keyboard. The magnets that attach the keyboard unit to the iPad case are quite strong and snap into place firmly. The material on the outside of the case is smooth but grippy for table tops. I do fear this finish will wear off over time like other devices with similar exteriors but I won't assume such immediately.Overall, I think this was a great idea in theory but in practical use, the added significant added weight, lack of Bluetooth connectivity and issues reconnecting, and space/bulk taken when assembled as an entire unit - I have serious doubts that this will fit on an airplane tray table without being too close to be used comfortably and/or hanging over the edge on one side (likely the side closest to you when the person in front of you reclines), oh... and the iPad case unit all but covers the power switch, making it difficult to press as there is no cutout for it - all this adds up to a recipe of unpleasant surprise when considering the price and frustration. At least for me. I am seriously thinking of returning mine, which is quite disappointing as I was so excited to order it. Perhaps I'll go with just the Slim Book model, giving up the Pencil holder and separability. I'm sure the size/footprint is smaller but the weight is probably still pretty hefty but surely it's not as heavy as the Pro. If the Pro was $79 or even $99, maybe I'd think it's more worth it but for $149 (+ shipping & tax in some cases), I'm just not seeing it.Sorry Zagg - I've been a huge fan and supporter, as well as a major referral engine for you for a very long time but I'm just not seeing it with this. I really wish I could love this but it's just not loving me... October 20, 2016
