Rated 1 out of 5 by from Steer clear Extremely unstable. Anything connected to it loses Internet connection. Reset 5 times. Really is worthless.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rock Solid TP-Link products have never let me down and this one is no exception. Have had this for some time so this is NOT a new review (well over a year now) and it has been through a couple of firmware updates since I have owned. I have a high volume of devices connected to this router and all perform flawlessly and very stable. The concurrent use is not high but at any given moment I have a game console, 3 smartphones, Roku streaming my TV service, and a daughter streaming movies on a desktop computer without a hiccup. I will continue to stand by TP-Link. Well done folks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this router I've had this router for about a year and have never had any issues with it. I have a fiber connection to my home (250 mbps up and down); this router definitely keeps up and delivers fast speeds always. I have 2 windows laptops, 2 androids, 1 iOS phone, 1 mac mini, 2 printers and an Xbox. I have everything running wireless and never have any lag at all. Don't pay attention to the review saying that it won't work with iOS. I've had 3 or 4 for work and never had an issue.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Useful for large area or shared wi-fi access situations It took quite a while to actually setup the extender as I had trouble having my extender correct to my Wi-Fi connection. But once the system stabilized, I could connect quite easily by directly connecting to the extender over Wi-Fi. The Wi-Fi connection speed over the extender is about 50% of what you would get with a direct Wi-Fi connection. So there is significant performance reduction. This is definitely better than having just one band of signal at a distant corner of the house or being seated in a yard or something. But you should remember not to connect to the extender if you are within decent range of the direct wifi connection. One feature I liked was the ability to just turn off the LED control lights at pre-defined timings such as, say from 8PM - 8AM everyday so that there is no blue hue in the room at nights. Access control is also another nice feature which is available with most recent TP Link network products. Overall I think its a good product with very specific use cases. Don't consider this if you have a Wi-Fi router (especially if its TP-Link) that has a very good span across your working area. Submitted as part of a free sample program

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Range Extender ! The RE650 is extremely easy to set up, by either using WPS, or by entering the admin console and picking the 2.4GHz and 5GHz host networks, entering their passwords, and SAVING before re-booting the RE. (Note: At my screen resolution, the SAVE button was covered by the helpful "QR Code" screen-splash for downloading TP-Link Tether). Be sure to save your settings before re-booting. Other than my mistake on this, the Admin Console is very well laid out and simple to use - you can choose to hide your extended networks SSID Broadcast, and they are automatically set to the same password as your host networks (cannot change). The RE650 has its own DHCP server settings, that can be changed on the "Network" tab (if a conflict), and the "MODE button" in the Admin Console allows the RE650 to be switched between the Range Extender mode (default), or the Access Point" mode if connected to a wired network. The Advanced Settings Tab provides on/off scheduling capabilities, power settings, and white-list/blacklist settings. You can turn the very attractive (almost neon-blue) LED status lights on or off in System Tools, as well as doing an on-line or manual Firmware upgrade, if needed. Many of these settings for controlling the RE650 are available in the TP-Link Tether app, but I much prefer using the Admin console for initial setup. Both are simple and work great for their respective purposes. I have experimented with various locations for the RE650, and have now found the sweet spot for greatly improving the signal and data rate for the two worst dead spots in my large two-story house. The RE650 does require a full wall outlet, but the great improvement in wireless network performance easily justifies that. The signal for my wife's laundry room computer has been sporadic, but is now strong and steady since installing the RE650 between my (downstairs) router and her location. No more surfing complaints from her ! Submitted as part of a free sample program

Rated 5 out of 5 by from (Part 2) Best and Most Powerful wall-plug Range Extender. The RE650 is currently the best and most powerful wall-plug range extender available, in terms of capability, coverage, features, and usability. This is a review of a free demo unit received from TP-Link, for testing and feedback, as part of their review program. Submitted as part of a free sample program. RE650 dimensions are 6.4 x 3.4 x 1.6 inches. Weighs about 14 ounces. On the front is a large WPS button surrounded by a circular Intelligent Signal Indicator Light. Below that are 3 LED indicators, 2.4GHz, 5GHz, and POWER. One side has an RJ45 Gigabit Ethernet Port, to connect wired devices for faster speeds and stronger performance. Power and LED buttons are on the other side. There is also a recessed Reset button. The Intelligent Signal Indicator Light helps you find a good Range Extender location without guesswork. When the indicator glows Solid Blue location is good. Red when too far from the router. Blinking Blue indicates WPS pairing is underway. The RE650 operates on dual-bands simultaneously. Total throughput capacity is 2,600Mbps; 800Mbps on the 2.4GHz band, plus 1,733Mbps at 5.0GHz. 4 external folding antennas and 4x4 MU-MIMO circuitry means 4 separate streams from 4 different devices can be processed at once. The 4 antennas and streams drastically improve Wi-Fi speed, range, and reliability. MU-MIMO is shorthand for Multiuser Multiple-Input Multiple-Output. Beamforming technology directs Wi-Fi toward individual devices, which improves throughput, signal quality, and extends range. Coverage reaches to 14,000 square feet. Next-Gen 802.11ac with 256-QAM Quadrature Amplitude Modulation improves efficiency and increases data rates. The RE650 provides Advanced Wi-Fi Security Encryption, WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK. The RE650 plugs into 3-prong AC power wall electrical outlets. It's easy to install and move about. With the RE650 in a top outlet, there was enough room below it to accommodate a lamp plug. Good performance. Works reliability. A premium product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best and Most Powerful wall-plug Range Extender. The RE650 is currently the best and most powerful wall-plug range extender available, in terms of capability, coverage, features, and usability. During a month of testing the RE650 provided continuous reliable Wi-Fi and never disconnected from the router. This is a review of a free demo unit received from TP-Link, for testing and feedback, as part of their review program. Submitted as part of a free sample program. Even with the best most expensive router, if there is a large area to cover with Wi-Fi, Range Extenders may very well be needed. That's because all routers have their maximum power throttled to meet a mandated maximum FCC requirement. My large old house has plaster wire lathe walls which degrade the Wi-Fi signal. For complete Wi-Fi coverage, inside and outdoors, I need multiple access points and range extenders. I benchmarked the RE650 using a Windows-10 ThinkPad laptop in an adjacent room. Connecting to the RE650 on 2.4GHz 802.11n, Download speed was 80Mbps, Upload 22Mbps. Connecting to the RE650 on 5.0GHz 802.11ac, Download was 234Mbps, Upload 20Mbps. These speeds were similar to those when the laptop connected directly to the Router. The RE650 is very versatile. An old desktop PC had no Internet connection in a back bedroom, far from the router and cable modem. PC had an Ethernet card but no Wi-Fi capability. Connected an Ethernet cable from this PC to the RE650's RJ45 Gigabit Ethernet port. Old PC was rejuvenated. Became useful again, and was back on the Internet surfing the web and doing email. The RE650 also helped an old laptop which only had 802.11n Wi-Fi. Connected it to the RE650 Ethernet port and that laptop now had dual-band 802.11ac Wi-Fi. The RE650 can switch modes; either Range Extender or Access Point. Wi-Fi can be added to homes with a totally wired network, by configuring the RE650 as a wireless Access Point. Also connecting the RE650 to an outdated router with an Ethernet cable will update your home to the latest 802.11ac Wi-Fi.
