Product Reviews
StarTech.com Dual Bay Gigabit NAS RAID Enclosure for 3.5" SATA Hard Drives is rated 2.8 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Missleading This is advertised with a Gigabit Ethernet, but Im getting 20MB as maximum.I get 80 to 100 mb/s when sharing files between LAN connector computers, but when I try to upload files to the S352BMU3N, I get between 5 to 20mb. With modern modems having USB capabilities, you get the same performance as plugin a USB pen drive to the modem USB port.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good value for money spent I got hung up on network issues, which initially delayed installation of this new device to replace an old home server. My advice during setup is to take it off the normal network. Change your IP address to the setup instructions, access the new device with the standard login/password, immediately change the IP address that doesn't conflict with other computers that will be on the network. Yes, change the default password too. Then put the drive on the highest fork of your network, for example, one of the open ports of your modem/firewall. I found that was the only way I could see the device on ALL the computers in my house. Initially I had it on one of my 8-port switches, which is fed by the modem/firewall. For some reason, 2 computers couldn't see or even ping the device. That's not the fault of of this RAID enclosure, just something funky about my network.Once I figured that out, I was able to transfer all my data from the old server. Now I have the old one shut down and acting as my emergency/periodic backup server that is now turned off.The permissions are a bit clunky, but they do work once you figure it out. You can setup users, change the name of the folder it creates (if needed), then which users also get permissions to those folders. So, if you have financial documents you don't want your kids to see, you keep that to yourself, but have common folders for sharing family photos with your family and they can have folders of their own too.Right now I'm using this device with Windows 10 and even and old Macintosh running OS X (pre-intel). I've even accessed it from WindowXP. It just plain works.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disaster When using the S352BMU3N as an NFS mounted file system, some scenarios cause huge loss of storage space when coping (under Windows) files from a compressed drive to the NAS drive. I just lost close to two terabytes of storage space under RAID0 on an NFS mount by copying some 10 GB of data into the drivespace, and that's the second time that happened. This is a design fault, and I've not so far found any utility that can even identify the missing drive space. Don't buy this thing, unless you can afford to lose your data.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Basic RAID This unit would work great for occasional backups, but since purchasing the box goes offline every few days and has to be power cycled in order to get connectivity back to the network. Not good for serious online backups, but good for storage. Speed is good when working properly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Grate price and features. I just bought this and was up and running in about 5. Easy to use and price got me hooked. Low noise for me, i only hear the drives not the fan as another user had said. Raid works good. The speed over network is not as fast as some others i tried but it's only a little slower then my other two single drive units on rights and faster on reads as it seems to read from both drives for better read speed I LOVE IT

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Easy to find. Follow the noise Works exactly as advertised. Easy to set up. Sadly so very loud. The fan runs constantly (so glad I bought green drives) and rumbles. The vent holes are such that the air sounds overwhelm. Had to relocate my stuff to get the thing away from me.
