Product Reviews
Rated 1 out of 5 by 1reviewer.
Rated 1 out of 5 by Waste of time We've bought several Promise arrays through the years as Tier 3/4 storage. The short story is that they have been nothing but headaches. The firmware is buggy, and even with 'mature' firmware, it still sucks. The management GUI always locks up, or it becomes unavailable. After the system gets really jacked up, the CLI also takes a dump and no longer works. You can't even shut down - you have to do a physical power off, and guess what - they are too cheap to even include power switches on the chassis, so you have to explain to the data center remote hands to pull the power cables. This R2600 using iSCSI has locked up our ESXi servers so many times it's ridiculous. Brought down production on countless occasions. Now I'm trying to configure a NAS from scratch and it still locks up, with the latest firmware. They're support is horrible, the techs are nice, but they don't know anything. They read out of the same manual that you download online. There is no out of the box thinking. For reference, we've had our Equallogic units for years, and I haven't even touched them - they run spectacularly well even on old firmware. I spent so many hours on these just trying to get them to be stable, it's probably cost our company more money that just buying Tier 1 storage. I though I would put this my lab, but it's such a headache I think it's better suited for the recycle bin. December 16, 2016
