I have a 2 year old and need serious protection from slapping, dropping, tossing, being smashed with blocks, drool, etc. So far this case has been perfect, kept my iPad safe and no damage to the case either. Totally recommend! It's a bit pricey, but less than 1/4 the cost of having the glass replaced!

Went to put this on my son's iPad mini and wasted about five minutes trying to figure out what was meant by the "outer silicone casing" I was supposed to remove. It turns out the one they sent me doesn't have one. Submitted request to customer service and will update this based on their responsiveness

Just a slight difficulty using the Touch ID but still operates. I've always enjoyed the protection the Defender provides for my iPhone 5. I'd buy another case just like it for a second mini 3.

Yet one area that needs to be improved on the Apple Defender iPad Mini 3 Stand is the corner edges since they are not properly grabbing the iPad Mini when placed on its side, thus the iPad Mini falls out of the stand.

But aside from that it's very sturdy, and the hardcase and the rubber case give excellent protection.

I first bought a case for my Gen 1 IPOD to protect my device during deployment to a sandy region of the world. It survived....that Otterbox case in great shape - The Ipod, well, not so much. If you have a device you want to keep safe, buy an Otterbox. It is truly that simply! Buy, protect, live, breathe easy!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for the hazardous one in your life. I got this for my mom because she's a danger to anything electronic, portable or not. To put it into persepctive: In the less than a month since I installed the Defender on her IPad Mini, she has dropped it down several flights of stairs, on the sidewalk, on gravel, and even ceramic tiles. Not to help the matter, the cats like testing the durability of said product by smacking it off the desk onto hardwood floor. The IPad AND the casing are intact. There isn't a dent or scratch anywhere on them. I've never been so relieved in all my life to know that I will most likely never have to replace the screen of this IPad again!

The rubber was really stiff but I got everything put together. The one I had on my full size was not this stiff, but it was a full size iPad and this one is smaller... Fits in my purse which is the main reason I got the mini!

A week or so later we couldn't find the ipad2 and I used the "Find my phone feature" and located it on the side of the road just down from our home. He had left it on his flat bed truck and it had come off and hit the road and was laying in the grass on a curve. It had been a couple days and had rained one of the days. The Otter Box saved the device. There was no damage to the device whatsoever. The Otter Box did have a little damage in its corner at point of impact so you know it must have hit hard, but the ipad2 was fine. Thanks Otter Box!

This case does NOT turn off iPad upon closing, which was a great feature of all of my other otter boxes. This "missing"feature is not discussed on the website. I am very disappointed. When I called to complain, I was told, "designers decided that this feature is just not important". Poor response....would have expected the person to say, we will absolutely look into this and work on fixing it. When we do, we will send you a replacement that works just like the other boxes. Also...the hole for the "Touch ID" is not big enough; therefore, I cannot use this feature on my iPad, with the case on!!!! Poor design. Manager said that she would send another case, but I must snap a photo of the case serial number, which I cannot do, cuz I cannot get the case off the iPad...it is too tight. Big mess....need to wait for someone with strong fingers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product The excellent protection while maintaining the sleek small design of the iPad. The plastic cover is nice as it has two positions for viewing. One thing with the cover is that while pushing on the home button at times the iPad falls out. The more upright selection could improve on how it sits in the cradle, a lock of some sort to secure it when having the need to push on the home button. Overall I wouldn't have any other product. I wish I could buy different skins for it or mix the plastic interior for a color combination. I totally Ove my black otterbox!

Ever since I got Otterbox, that never happened even though my iPad fell uncountable times. The only problem is I got the pink one and it turned to black-ish by time. However, I took it off the iPad and kept only the Defender Shell. It's been two years and my iPad is protected only using the Defender Shell. It's awesome and if I can buy the Defender Shell by itself it would be great, mine is getting old after three years of use!

Within an hour after installing it, I (accidentally) dropped my BRAND NEW iPad mini and didn't even flinch, as I new it was well protected! My only fuss is the charging port, it's kind of a hassle to get it open, but then, it does stay closed...

I've always had otterboxes for my phones, so I knew the quality of the case wouldn't disappoint. I can now carry my iPad without the fear of dropping and breaking it. I was worried about the built in screen protector making it difficult to use the iPad but I was so happy to find that using the iPad is still as smooth as ever while providing the highest quality of protection. So glad I bought this.

The new defender case has a couple improvements, tougher rubber housing & easier access to the home button. My only complaint is I wanted a different color. Black is so boring, lol! But the protection it offers outweighs any lack of aesthetic choice. I can't remember how many times I've dropped my iPad & the case is so efficient that the ipad still looks brand new. I recommend it heartily!

The machine was fine and there wasn't even a scratch on the box. its worth every penny

I love my cases for my iPhone and older iPad I got from OtterBox. But this one the screen protector shows dirt a lot and I am constantly cleaning it. At least if I drop it, the iPad will be safe.

While the case is very sturdy and I am sure it will protect the mini if dropped it is very hard to use the push button. You have to press very hard to use it. Also the screen cover isn't totally clear and looks fuzzy

Our family just purchased 3 IPhone 6's and we got OtterBoxes for all and we are VERY pleased with the protection they provide as well as the ease of installing them. Our old phones looked brand new after removing them from the old OtterBoxes. The only drawback is that the cases need to be opened and cleaned often if you work in a dusty environment. But, overall, we are well pleased with our purchases and will continue to be OtterBox fans.

I am an electrician and take my phone everywhere so I have dropped it off my car, and I have beat to up pretty good and my phone is still perfect (knock on wood). The warrantee is amazing and there are lots of colours available. I was bought an iPad for Christmas a year ago and with it came this amazing lifeproof case that the salesman sold my husband. It broke after a month, it's not attractive and they did not have a shadow of the warrantee that otterbox has. I bought an otterbox for myself and for my husbands new iPad mini as well. I especially love the stand and the screen cover!

I read with my mini and I love the feel and the protection I get with Otterbox. I do wish you had colors other than black but, beggars can't be choosers. I also have an Otterbox on my Smart Phone. You can't go wrong with Otterbox. They have protected my electronics from numerous drops and a few spills.

The pink/purple ones do not stay on the stand. They are constantly falling down. I've also had issues with the stand cracking by the hinge.

My kids are 3 and 5yrs old, and both are autistic, so let's just say they are pretty brutal with these things. Not only do they keep the iPad clean and dry, but the actually protect as good as they claim to be able to. I felt compelled to come write a review because my daughter just dropped hers down a set of concrete stairs and there isn't so much as a scratch on it! Thank you otterbox for putting so much into making such a great product, you have me as a customer for life!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best iPad cover ever When I bought my iPad, I was enticed by a sage-colored Bluetooth keyboard Zagg which really only functioned in a fixed horizontal position for keyboard use. Two long years later, I finally opted for the Defender and what a great cover it is, with its drop protection. Just FYI, my husband's Otter-protected iPhone fell off his motorcycle in Missouri. 30 miles down the road, he realized it was MIA, so used Find My Phone on my iPhone. We both used Defenders on our iPhones and knew how rugged the OtterBox protection was. Plugging the GPS coordinates into our Garmins, we found his phone in the middle of the highway in Sedalia, Missouri, with a couple of rubber skid marks across it, but iPhone untouched! What I like about this OtterBox, is that its accompanying stand can be used vertically or horizontally, and 'the stand' snaps right on to the OtterBox as additional shell protection. Beautifully designed and great protection. Thanks OtterBox — trustworthy protection.

The problems with the home button in many other reviews is something I haven't experienced. The other buttons operate as advertised. I haven't had any issues other then wishing the case was water proof. The ruggedness of the case is great. I could only request that the case be more secure from the elements; dust, water spray, ect... As an improvement. Great product for protecting your everyday iPad mini.

However, I just purchased one for our retail tablet at work and was disappointed that it is not compatible with the Square reader. Otterbox should offer a model where a larger area of the jack corner is removable to accommodate the size of the reader.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Great product It is a bit bulky considering the actual size and shape of the ipad mini, but to get the protection necessary the bulk at this time maybe necessary. I wish it came in more colors, as when I set it down, I want to be able to spot it across the room. I don't take it on road trips so I am not concerned about other people see it and stealing it. I wish the stand was attached to the unit, but it does make it much more bulky, on the other hand I am always walking away from the stand and have to go back for it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good product, great customer service We have owned 4 Otterbox Defenders, they are great at protecting our products. The downside is the rubber case only lasts about a year and then the rubber begins to tare. It definitely protects the product, but the life of the product is not great. Otterbox has been great about replacing the rubber.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from RUN OVER BY A CAR I was leaving work one day and I had my hands full. I placed my iPad on the top of my car and put the rest of my stuff in the back seat. After making several trips back and forth to load all my stuff in the car, I got in and drove away. I pulled out of the parking lot onto the highway and accelerated to highway speed (about 60 mph). I was looking in the rear view mirror when I saw something fly off the top of my car and hit the highway. I immediately realized what I had done and in a panic pulled over to the side of the highway. I jumped out and thought well I can at least get the pieces out of the road. I ran back all the way to where it had landed, and when I was about 10 feet away a car (4 door sedan some kind) ran it over. I finally got up to it and flipped it over (it landed screen down) and pressed the power button. It came right on and continues to work fine to this day. The hard plastic part of the case is messed up a little bit but all cosmetic damage really. Pretty amazing in my opinion!
