The Nasuni Filer, a key component of Nasuni Cloud NAS, is a local storage controller that supports file, database and VM storage. Connecting each office location to the master copy of the data stored in the cloud, The Nasuni Filer serves as the data access point for end-users. Because the master copy of the data is centrally stored in the cloud, endpoints can be replaced and upgraded without migrating data or disrupting access to data. Finally, because the cloud is an integral part of the solution, the entire storage infrastructure, including the Filer, is fully managed.

Much more than just a "cloud gateway", the Filer is the on-premises component of the Nasuni solution that is responsible for everything from snapshots to auditing to anti-virus. The on-premises Nasuni Filer delivers local storage performance with a minimal footprint. Even though customers store hundreds of TBs with Nasuni, each Filer only caches the most important and most frequently accessed files. Using sophisticated and proprietary caching algorithms, Nasuni customers achieve local performance with only a small percentage of the dataset in their local storage. This means less hardware and lower costs for customers.
