Rated 5 out of 5 by from Terrible Customer Service Purchased this modem to take advantage of better Comcast Xfinity speeds. Had problems getting it to function. Called customer service for help after Comcast basically said that it appeared to be working from their end and issue was perhaps with the modem or my wireless router which is also Netgear branded. Spent an hour or more with customer service rep from India who was both condescending and not very helpful. She ultimately claimed that the modem was likely fine and issue was with my Netgear router. Said she would be happy to help address the issue if I paid $99 for a new warranty for a device that worked just fine prior to buying the new modem. I declined the sleazy grab for money and returned the modem after spending nearly 6 hours trying to get things to work. Also pledged to never buy a Netgear device again. Went into Comcast the next day and got one of their xFi gateways which is now giving me nearly a Gbps download speed for the same price I was paying before. When will companies realize that they can no longer take advantage of their customers? Also, when will they learn that outsourcing customer service to India costs them more than the benefit of paying reps what amounts to pennies on the dollar compared to paying someone in the US to do the job?

I initially thought the modem was flawed but it turned out to be MY fault and not the machine. I'm not too computer literate, unfortunatey. The customer service person I talked to figured out my problem fairly quickly, so I have nothing but wonderful things to say about the whole experience. I would definitely recommend the Netgear products to anyone.

My challenge / reason for taking away one star: When I needed to ask a related question and called customer service the representative (who did a good job answering that question), then insisted on giving me detailed information on promotions / warranties, despite my saying several times, kindly, respectfully and with my reason for this… that I was not interested. It was clear she wouldn’t hear me and it felt icky to essentially be forced to listen to her sales pitch unless I was willing to hang up on her (which I didn’t want to do out of courtesy). Please forbear potential typos here; I’m typing on a tiny screen with tiny keys and it’s not easy to edit.

It works perfect and I was able to use my Orbi wifi with it. I would recommend.

It appears that Suddenlink corrupted the Mac Address Table on their side. The new Mac Address applied and everything worked immediately.

I bought this modem from NETGEAR and paired it with the nighthawk router and my gaming life has never been better and the kids upstairs have no problems streaming across the house . Let’s not even talk about the features of the router because they’re nothing but great but I’ve been highly satisfied and that’s the reason I’m doing this review because I’m a review checker and want ppl to know this is well worth the money !

Activation was simple and quick, and I consistently get about 15% better D/U speeds on my 400Mbps connection. A solid choice.

If you having problems with your internet and your modem is a few years old, it may be time to upgrade. A lot of providers updated there service so you need a Docsis 3.0 modem for new speeds.

Installation with Opimum service was a breeze, once I gave them the information they needed, it was up and running in no time. Its small, looks good and works as intended. It is also 3.0 rated, which should be future proof for any possible internet speed increase. I only wish I bought it sooner, would have saved a few bucks on modem rental fee, which recently doubled. Also the delivery from Amazon was fast and it arrived a few days ahead of schedule. I definitely would recommend it.

I have no idea why I waited this long to do this as this purchase will literally pay for itself in approximately 9 months. I have no good reason why I waited so long. I encourage everybody reading this to dump your modem lease right now and spend some money on this modem. This modem is great. It is a 32 channel modem meaning it can download all 32 of xFinity's channels. I believe 32 is the max xFinity utilizes. I probably could have jumped up to a Docsis 3.1 modem; however, this isn't mainstream yet and this Docsis 3.0 modem by Netgear is giving me insane speeds. I pay for xFinity's 250Mbps internet plan and I'm consistently seeing speeds around 287Mbps! So, in a nutshell, I'm very happy with this Netgear modem!

The UI - which most users don't need to access is very basic with unimpressive design. The only essential function is to change the password- very limiting: the user name cannot he changed. The survey SW seems to have a bug.

From the time I took it out of the packaging until it had it up and running couldn't have been more than 30 minutes and I'm certainly no 'techie'! Everything on my Wi-Fi network just worked! I highly recommend the Orbi system to anyone wanting fast responsive Wi-Fi throughout their home.

I thought my modem stopped working, but it was due to an outage from my ISP. anyway, when my ISP told me it was a faulty modem, I had no trouble getting into contact with Netgear and they said they would provide another one. So, great customer service as well.

I had to split the cable because the phone provider modem had to have a phone insert for the landline. I live in a low area and sometimes my cell phone doesn't work. The product had a high rating on amazon and we decided to give it a try as most of the reviews were positive. However, set up was not as intuitive as we thought it would be. We had to go back and look at reviews to find that others experienced the same issue in the set up process. We spent a day without internet as we attempted to configure our modem in conjunction with our netgear router. We called the cable company to trouble shoot the issue but were unable to get a resolution. The modem and router are now working and I couldn't tell you how it happened, but I can tell you that we are thoroughly happy with the purchase. We have had no other tech issues and have been enjoying a seamless internet experience with our netgear modem and router.

This modem provides the full bandwidth available from my ISP (one gigabit per second. With 32 download channels and 8 upload channels you're no longer limited by your modem bandwidth. Don't settle for less than the fastest download and uploads - why waste your own time when this modem gives best performance at a great price. Modem was extremely easy to setup and I was connected to ISP within about 5 minutes.

Naturally they want you to rent a gateway from them. Needless to say, that wasn't going to happen. After much research, I settled on the CM700, and I don't regret it for a second. Previous download speed hovered around 65 Mb/s. With the CM700, I'm seeing speeds around 119 Mb/s, and I couldn't be happier.

We have no problems with the rest of our WiFi devices anymore, as well. WiFi was continually shutting down, requiring a restart, but not now. These two products were recommended by my son in law. I have a family of five and we all use a lot of bandwidth and this smoothed out all the kinks I had. I hear that the CM1000 is the way to go but didn't want to spend that kind of money on it and I'm very pleased with the decision that I made.

My only critique, is that it only has 1 Ethernet port in the back. So you will absolutely need to buy a router. But that was fine with me since I already had the Router.

I definitely am not using it to its full potential speed wise with my ISP, but wanted the extra 'room' to grow without jumping into DOCSIS 3.1 modems. I get faster speeds than my ISP advertises but not sure if that's a result of the modem or just the network. Haven't had to do any resets nor have I had any other issues with it. Like I said, it just works.

I got this because my internet provider Upgraded my speed for free now. Now I have 350 mbps download and 12 mbps upload. More than I need but I need to upgrade my WiFi speed in the future it can handle up to 1.4 Gbps download speed so it is a future proof hardware for me!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No DROPS! I have purchased several DOCSIS modems in the past - and each of them had a tendency to drop randomly for a few seconds every now and then. I did some research and all of those modems had a chip in common that was known to have this issue. I then researched Modems that didn't have that chip and landed on the CM700. I paired this with an ORBI - and couldn't be happier. I no longer get drops and my network is very solid. I have 450m/s down into the house - works great.

But the USB port connects only to a limited number of devices. this is not explained in the packaging. Very frustrating as I wanted to attach an external hard drive and it will not find even the recommended USB device. Four or five call to support and still no resolution.

I had a cable system that came with a modem and had to pull the cable system out because being included Wi-Fi could not cover any of my house. I initially bought Google Wi-Fi. It worked well but I thought that I lost too much with my signal. With orbi, I get twice the speed that I was able to get from the Google wi-fi system

Mine would not work after being fried so I bought the same brand only to have the model not in working order when it arrived. I saw that I already had a NETGEAR router so decided to make it a pair with the cable modem. Have had no problems since installation. Only wish that the owners manual would be included in the box.

I am a remote worker whose office is unfortunately in my bedroom. My prior modem was outdated for my new service provider's speeds, and it had a very obnoxious blue light that showed through the casing and was noticeable when the lights are off. I tested this one out in my return period and was very happy with both it's function, but also with the soft green lights on the front, with very little backlight showing through it's casing. Yet still it up enough to read what I need to on the front.

Made weird fan like noises and sadly Netgear wasn’t able to replace it? Seriously? I’m hoping my Arris modem lasts longer. Come on Netgear - if it’s manufacture defect it’s a simple fix/replacement and keep me as a happy customer. While it lasted, the modem was working fine and hence the 3/5 stars.

Then hours spent with Netgear, who told me modem was fine and problem was with router. Called Asus for supposed router issue. Wanted to charge me 90 dollars for extended service plan which is about 20 dollars below price of new router. Had them email me help link and fixed router myself. The next day, no internet again. Bought new Netgear router. Called ISP provider again and told me everything fine on their end. Called Netgear for help with new router. 2 hours later... still only 40-100 mbps download speeds with ISP plan for 400 mbps. Another 2 hours rebooting Netgear modem and signal from ISP. This morning: no internet. Now purchasing new Motorola modem, returning Netgear router. After extensive research there is a bad chip in netgear cm700 modem. Avoid all modems with Intel Puma chip!!!

Needless to say, it helped in remove the unnecessary monthly $10 cable modem rental fee we were paying out to to our cable provider. All in all a 5* cable modem i would recommend any one to buy.

I get super great speeds I'm happy with it.. it save me the $10 fee that optimum charges now.. Im not happy with its construction! Its a little flimsy base. The ethernet port broke on me. It would have been great if i could mout this to the wall.. the first one was replaced by the company I was super happy about that and it was very easy with customer support. But other than the minor issues I told you about I am totally happy with the speeds the ease-of-use Emma simplicity of the small little modem that has crazy amount of speed built in.

I had netgear replaced it ( have to pay shipping and handling! The replacement modem also runs hot but so far so good. I wouldn’t recommend this modem.

Since I could get up to 80Mbps download speed on steam with a 900Mbps plan from Xfinity. But recently, the internet is not stable. I get 3Mbps sometimes and 20Mbps sometimes. Overall, it has good performance. But it lasts too short. I will not purchase any renewed model again.

I replaced an 8 year old modem that had less problems then this I hope you stop making products if you can’t even have your older model run properly.

I bought a new router, it worked intermittently. I brought it back to the store (which is another story, and couldn’t enter due to Covid-19. I worked with an associate in the lobby (one customer at a time allowed in the lobby) and he suggested a get a Netgear router. (I already had a Netgear modem). I took his advice and bought it. Hooked it up and it’s the MOAR (mother of all routers)!! I think I can get connection in the neighbors yard!! So pleased, now I can get my work done!!

The spectrum modem need to be rebooted many times, and when it did, it took from 3 to 6 days for it to re-sync. After replacing the modem, I have NO problems re-syncing. My network problems are with the ISP and no longer due to the equipment. Thanks NegGear!

The inherent defect with the this model is well documented and recognized by Netgear however Netgear has done nothing to correct the problem for their customers. When you use this model the max Mbps you can get is ~400 even though they say it's certified up to 800. When I attempted to get a replacement or a discount off another product that would live up to its claims I was told to go pound salt and that I would need to pay full price. Very dissatisfied with the support provided and the false claims of their product. Additionally, to not stand by consumers when they know of a defect and provide false claims of higher speeds is criminal. When confronted and asked to make it right, they reply with sucks to be you go buy another one of our products.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great modem so far! I recently purchased the NetGear CM700 modem so I could get rid of my Comcast modem/router that I was being charged $15/month to rent. The modem was easy to setup. First step was to take the modem to Comcast so they could get the MAC address off the unit. Then took it home and installed the coxial cable in the back and then the power cord. Then plugged in the power cord. It took a few minutes for the modem to cycle a few times and set itself up. You will need the Xfinity app so you can then log into your account to activate the modem. You will also need to purchase a router if you want to have WiFi. I purchased a NetGear Nighthawk AX5 AX4200(RAX43v2). You will need the NetGear Nighthawk app to setup the router. I decided to go with a separate modem and router combination. The most common unit to fail is the modem due to the heat they generate. I figured if the modem went out after the warranty, that's all I would have to replace for $80. They each come with a one year warranty. I have had the units up and running for one week now without any issues.

Because I just wasn’t happy with the way the first two performed. The 3rd time was “a charm”. The NetGear router installed easily and after a little on line support, I was up and operating with zero issues! I will be changing over the other two sites with NetGear equipment as soon as possible. Great product!

I'm glad we got this model that supports up to 800 Mbps back then because it's still plenty higher than the internet service we're getting through Comcast. We recently had some flaky speeds and reliability issues (the modem's downstream LED would blink instead of being steady) but it was found that the issue was the cable line coming into our house and not the modem.

And 2-if Comcast specifies the protocol why don’t they support the modem? The protocol should give them visibility into whether the modem likes their signal. But they bounce me to Netgear support who tries to sell service after the 90-day warranty and it is Comcast’s signal that is at fault!!! These racketeers should make this experience simple for clients if they control the rules.

I thought it was an issue with my ISP but when I checked with them and everything was good, I decided to start with a new modem and go from there. I have had it for a week now and it works great. Luckily, I purchased an extended warranty on the old one at Best Buy so what I paid for the old one was credited to the new one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stopped working in 5 months. Never again! Bought the modem in March to try and avoid paying monthly modem fees with xFinity. The modem worked flawlessly until 5 months later in August when it suddenly stopped connecting with the xFinity service. All troubleshooting narrowed the problem down to the modem (an xFinity modem connects fine). Trying to get an RMA with Netgear has been extremely frustrating. Netgear seems intent in throwing as many hurdles in front until you finally just give up. Congratulations Netgear in getting my money for a modem that only lasted 5 months. It's a shame, too. I used to like Netgear equipment, even for use at a company where I decide on equipment purchases as their IT Director.

And then a 2min reset was needed inorder for the unit to fully connect to the service. Overall this paired with nee access points is obtaining 180mb/s while i only pay for 150, and my Wi-Fi is testing at 120mb/s. Great speeds, when paired with running CAT6e to every room.

LOve teh interface as the genie gives me an option to go in thru IP portal or use the app.

Then I called NetGear and they walked me through how to download the latest firmware. It was pretty simple and my modem and router have been running smoothly. I can tell the difference in the speed that things download on to my cell. Wish I had upgraded a long time ago.

Had some trouble with the connection but it had nothing to do with the router or modem and everything to do with the service. Once we were up and running the modem and router (Nighthawk connected for a fast and easy internet connection. Both units are compact and light and I am very satisfied and pleased with the decision to purchase Netgear rather than rent equipment. Reliable, efficient, easy to use, and great internet support.

Only thing you have to do is ensure you have it connected to a computer so you can activate it or else it will not show up on the providers network. With this baby, I am even getting MORE Mbps than what I got. Get this bad boy!

According to my ISP phone support, it took two attempts for the CM-700 to connect. But once it connected, everything has been running smooth and fast. No dropouts or lagging detected. I am very satisfied and am saving approx. $12 US of monthly modem rental.

The install was very easy; however, when I had to "activate" the modem it was late at night and my cable company wasn't opened. I call NetGear's customer service and they walked me through all the steps. The modem is sleek and blends in well with my NetGear Router.

The modem is a 24/7/365 type device that must give dependable service over a long period of time. The CM700 design allows plenty of air-flow through the device to help keep it cool. It allows me to utilize the maximum bandwidth available from my isp.

Sometimes I have to reboot the modem, and sometimes it succeeds by itself. When connected, the internet speeds are great.

So I went with NetGear again and this item was a good price and the setup was easy, plus NetGear provides phone support which I used as well to solve some other issues. I would buy again

Rated 5 out of 5 by from you don't need gig service-200-300MBS-fast asuneed sorry, i never even got to open it. it was not the correct modem for my set up. i needed a voice modem. and, according to my isp, netgear did not have a voice modem i could use. had to stick to a voice modem that was also capable of handling only 200MB speed. i've had no luck with my isp, i'm extremely annoyed with them and had to stick to a voice modem that could manage my "slow speed". if they'd have gotten their service to me right the first time things would be different. it's optimum......they suck.

We also have a nighthawk router but theres' no indication of the wifi button it's just a black oblong button as is the one below it which I think is the on/off. A light or logo would be great....something you could easily see especially us over 60.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good one It works good. It was a bit difficult to get all connected and ai even had to call Netgear, my internet supplier and my Mesh’s supplier. I called them all to get it running. All of them were keen to help me except Netgear. They were not friendly and just “washed their hands” and passed the “issue” to the others. It all turned fine but I was disappointed by their total lack of interest in helping me. My Mesh’s supplier and the Internet supplier went above and beyond to help me! So, product good but disappointing service. I will give them 5 even though they don’t fully deserve it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Help! my old modem died, Netgear to the rescue. My internet went out and when it came back up my modem died something they did wipe all the instructions out of it. We rushed over to the local Big Box and to our relief they had some Netgear product that met the 4k requirement. This particular model has enough features to keep us happy for several years.
