Rated 4 out of 5 by Solid server. I purchased a single-CPU model about a year ago to use as an ESXi host for part of my development environment. Being an IBM guy, I knew exactly what to expect coming out of the box. The server was packaged safely and built well. I felt that the front panel looked a bit cheap looking compared to the M3. I was also surprised to see that the server did not come with a CD/DVD drive, which slowed things down when it came time to installing ESXi.Aside from that, the server seems to perform well. I'm running 5 VMs on the machine right now and the only bottleneck I've experienced was because I ran out of disk (my own fault!). The server performs well, and the cost is quite low compared to competitors. I did not see much improvement over my similarly-spec'd M3 model, however, but with near-similar costs, there's really no reason not to pick the M4 over the M3.Great server overall, and I would absolutely recommend it to someone with a low budget who is looking for a solid performer. Rated 5 out of 5 by it was quite a beast in those days and it worked perfectly for my previous company until we decommissioned it. September 20, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Just put one of these into production late last year. It is a beast. We have Hyper-V Server 2012 hosting ~12 VMs right now and this rig isn't even sweating. I had one issue when installed the RAM but other then that it has been running very well since we installed it. January 31, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Could not be happier with this model. We purchased 3 x3650 servers to serve as ESX 5.1 hosts. I consolidated roughly 40 physical servers that were 8+ years old onto these, and utilization across all three is still low. I have had one minor issue with a DIMM, which reseating RAM took care of. Other than that, no hardware issues or complaints. January 29, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by I can't say enough about the M2/M3 boxes, they are reliable workhorses that always get the job done. August 23, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by After sitting idle on my predecessors desk for a year before I got here, I finally got to put it through its paces. As a virtual host (ESXi), I have been pleased with its performance. I have had no issues with the server since powering it on 16 months ago. It's only been restarted twice - once to move it to a different site and once because of a power-failure at the colocation facility. While that may be a testament to vmware as well. I have no complaints at all about the device. The next generation M4 (maybe M5 if they're out in time) is the leading contender as it's successor for my next round of server acquisitions next year based upon the reliability of this model. Rated 3 out of 5 by Great until we needed an upgrade and found they'd changed the motherboard so ours didn't support X54xx series July 25, 2012
