Rated 5 out of 5 by from Almost perfect laptop riser plagued by poor choice The design and functionality is 5 stars all day long. My major gripe is the construction as well as the materials and mechanisms chosen to tighten and loosen the hinge, which I'd give 1 star to. That being said, the heavy duty plastic is super sturdy yet lightweight, making it easily portable in any size backpack or satchel. But because of the plastic, it doesn't provide a premium look and feel, or functionality; I'd love an all aluminum option, but this will do. The worst component, by far, is the terrible thumbscrew that loosens or tightens the hinge so you can change the angle. I've barely had this thing a month and I've had it loosen on its own and shift out of position while I was out of the room. I'm afraid if I tighten it too much, I'll break it and crack the plastic knob, but if it's too loose, it may shift with my laptop on it causing it to slide off the back of the desk. This is a 2 part problem: the rubber feet are made of a rubber that's a bit too firm and isn't grippy enough for glass or super smooth desk surfaces, as well, the knob and mechanism that tighten the hinge are poor quality in my opinion. I would prefer to see a notched hinge system, almost like a ratchet for a tow strap, that would lock into place so you know for a fact it's not going anywhere unless you release it. I'm not an engineer or anything so this is totally just a guess at what would work better. Either way, I recommend it because It's simple and has great functionality. Make sure the back of your desk faces the wall, just in case!
