Rated 5 out of 5 by from Complete router solution that offers scalable firewall applications What is our primary use case? It was a MPLS implementation for a Coal India product. We have more than 10,000 people using this solution in telecommunication. What is most valuable? For the routers, every feature is quite essential and this is a complete router. The firewall applications are scalable. What needs improvement? To compare with Fortinet, Juniper needs to improve their security features. For how long have I used the solution? I have been using this solution for three years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? It's stable. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? It's easily scalable. How are customer service and support? I would rate technical support 4 out of 5. They're responsive. How was the initial setup? It's easy to set up. I would rate it 5 out of 5. It takes a maximum of 30 minutes to deploy everything. Two engineers are enough for maintenance because it's pretty stable and the hardware quality is very good. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? For a medium-sized organization, the cost for the licensing and implementation of Juniper SRX for 10 users would be about $300-400. Which other solutions did I evaluate? Juniper is lagging behind compared with Fortinet and Cisco. What other advice do I have? I would rate this solution 10 out of 10. If you have the routing solutions and you want to use Juniper as a complementary solution, you could use it. But if you want it mainly for the firewall, I would recommend Fortinet or Cisco instead. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Delivers security and advanced protection services What is our primary use case? Many customers of ours use Juniper firewalls — almost 30 enterprise companies in total. What is most valuable? We have explored perimeter security; however, we have not had the chance to group all the security solutions from Juniper. In relation to perimeter firewalls, we have had a good experience. We have been working with Juniper for about 10 years now, and I think it's a good brand in the market in general. In the past, they had some issues involving integration with different products in the portfolio, but currently, I think they have solved that issue. Speaking about our experience with perimeter firewalls, we feel comfortable. We think they have a good interface, the operating system is good, it's robust. It has plenty of great features, and the relation between the cost and benefits works for our business. What needs improvement? They recently improved this solution. Currently, I feel comfortable with Juniper in general. What do I think about the stability of the solution? How are customer service and technical support? Support is good. We speak to them quite often. How was the initial setup? The initial setup was very simple. Which other solutions did I evaluate? Currently, we plan on exploring more products and solutions geared toward cloud security. What other advice do I have? Overall, on a scale from one to ten, I would give Juniper SRX a rating of nine. Which deployment model are you using for this solution? On-premises Disclaimer: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A high performance security solution with a clever network operation system What is most valuable? I like the Junos OS, which has been very good for me. It's very clever. I can find everything I want, I can commit changes, and I can throwback. I think it has very good features. I like Juniper because of Junos. What needs improvement? I think it needs some automation. I have to find an API for Python and so on, which is quite different from a typical solution. Sometimes committing configurations takes a lot of time in Juniper because of the connections, and it could be a little bit faster. Their documentation could also be better. For how long have I used the solution? I've been using Juniper SRX for about ten years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? Juniper SRX is very stable. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? It's not very scalable because you need some experience with Juniper. I know that it's difficult for people who are familiar with Cisco to start Junos. Compared to Cisco, Juniper also has very bad documentation. How are customer service and technical support? I think technical support is good. Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch? We're also using Check Point at the moment. How was the initial setup? The initial setup is easy for me because I have some papers with notes that help me. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? The price is reasonable. What other advice do I have? I would advise people interested in using this solution to start learning Junos. On a scale from one to ten, I would give Juniper SRX a nine. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good for medium sized networks but the UI needs improvement What is our primary use case? We use it to deploy the firewall. Sometimes we use the newer version, sometimes the older version. It depends. What is most valuable? In terms of valuable features, Juniper firewall filtering is good. What needs improvement? Juniper SRX's UI is very bad. We have to use CLA all of the time and Sky ATP. If I compare Fortinet with SRX, particularly for filtering websites and email addresses, SRX is very very difficult. For how long have I used the solution? I have been using Juniper SRX for the last five to six years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? It is good for a medium sized network. It depends how it is deployed. If you look at the Gartner rating, Juniper is not among the top rankers. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? The scalability is fine. How are customer service and technical support? Since COVID, the tech support is not much good. You have to wait a long time. For example, if you open up a case, you don't know how much time it will be before they come and if the person opening the ticket is even experienced. How was the initial setup? Because I have been using Juniper for five years, for me the setup is not hard. But compared to FortiGate it is much more difficult for new users. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? It is on a subscription basis, mostly yearly. It totally depends on the customer. The customer gets a discount on the hardware. What other advice do I have? On a scale of one to ten, I would give Juniper SRX a seven. Which deployment model are you using for this solution? Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good IPSec configuration, with good support, and easy to install What is our primary use case? The primary use case of this solution is a traditional firewall. We use Juniper SRX for the site-to-site VPN. What is most valuable? The IPSec configuration is going well. What needs improvement? We are experiencing some issues with the clustering. It needs to be simplified and more stable. Some of the features included in SRX need improvement. For example, if you want to change your SSH port number, you cannot go into the application layer. You will have to go to the shell command to change the port. This is a problem because when you show the configuration, you cannot see what was put in the shell. It should easier. Also, the user interface is a bit slow. In the future, I would like to see the UI more responsive. The new generation doesn't use SSH anymore. One-click would be better. For how long have I used the solution? I have been using Juniper SRX for approximately six years. A few years ago, we were using the SRX240 now we are using a more recent version. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? We deploy on SRX to handle 500 sites. We will continue to use this solution in the future. We have no plans to change. How are customer service and technical support? The technical support is a lot better because when we log a case, they respond. Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch? We also use Fortinet FortiGate and I have some experience and knowledge of Cisco ASA. How was the initial setup? It's not too complicated. It's plug and play. The most challenging is when you upload the ISO. Deployment is less than one hour. The installation is completed in-house. We are not a large company, we have a team of less than five for deployment and maintenance. What other advice do I have? I would recommend this solution for those who are interesting in using it for a VPN. I would rate this solution an eight out of ten. Which deployment model are you using for this solution? Rated 5 out of 5 by from Scalable with good CLI and helpful technical support What is our primary use case? We primarily use the solution for a small office. What is most valuable? The solution works very well in small offices. The CLI works perfectly. Technical support has been very helpful overall. They offer very good administration capabilities. What needs improvement? The solution could cost less. It's a bit expensive right now. The solution sometimes takes a long time to deliver the products. We're often waiting for stock. They should just have the product available and ready to go when customers need it. For how long have I used the solution? I've been using the solution for about 15 years at this point. It's been a long time. It's been well over a decade. What do I think about the stability of the solution? The solution is pretty stable. We haven't had any issues in that regard. It's reliable. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? The solution can scale, however, it's often difficult to get a hold of the product itself. We're often waiting on orders. The solution seems to work well in small offices. I'm not sure how well it would do in larger enterprises. How are customer service and technical support? The solution offers very good technical support. We've found them to be helpful and responsive. We don't have anything to complain about. Their service has been good so far. Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch? We did previously use a solution called NetScreen. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? The pricing is a bit expensive. They need to work on their pricing models. Which other solutions did I evaluate? We're currently looking at Fortinet as an option. Currently, this solution is fine for a smaller office, however, we're curious to see if there's a solution that may be better suited for a larger setup. What other advice do I have? We're an official Juniper partner. I don't typically work with the user interface. I deal more often with the CLI, and that works very well. I'm not really able to comment too much on usability for those who need a user interface to operate the solution. I'd recommend the solution. Overall, on a scale from one to ten, I would rate it at an eight. For the most part, we've been pretty happy with it. Which deployment model are you using for this solution? Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good technical support, but the reliability and integration with other devices need to be improved What is our primary use case? The Juniper SRX is our edge firewall. We have three in total. Two of them are set up in an HA pair, and the other is standalone in another city. How has it helped my organization? This product has definitely not improved the way our organization functions. I am familiar with Cisco products and when we purchased the Juniper units, they told us that if you know Cisco IOS then Juniper SRX is really easy. It isn't. It would be like saying that if you know English, then Chinese is really easy. The reality is that it's completely different. There's no commonality and the philosophies are different. Everything is different. What is most valuable? We purchased it for the basic firewall features but added UTM a little bit later. What needs improvement? The reliability needs to be improved. We purchased three devices and all three have been replaced under RMA. We've had other problems where they have needed to be rebooted. A couple of times I've run into the problems where they have to integrate with other systems. The Juniper support really doesn't have a clue about other systems. They know Juniper and if everything is Juniper then it's great. However, we have Windows RADIUS Servers and I need Juniper-specific settings for them. Unfortunately, they're having a real hard time telling me what those should be, and they keep referring back to it being Microsoft, which they don't support. When they say that I need to speak with Microsoft, I remind them that these are things that are defined in the Juniper configurations that I need to set up. They seem to forget that not everybody is exclusively Juniper. For how long have I used the solution? We bought three Juniper SRX345s about four years ago, and we are still using them today. What do I think about the stability of the solution? We have had glitches that necessitating rebooting the device. For example, a couple of times, they just stop routing on certain VLANs, and one time, it was our server VLANs, so our DNS was down and no one could get to anything. People thought that our internet connection down but actually, it was the DNS and the routing to it had been stopped. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? We're a relatively small organization so we didn't scale it. All of the people in the organization are protected by the devices. How are customer service and technical support? I have used technical support quite a bit, and they are really good. I would rate them an eight out of ten. There is almost always room for improvement. Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch? Prior to the Juniper SRX devices, we had some Cisco ASAs. They were reaching end-of-life so we had to replace them. At the time we were shopping, Cisco was behind in their technologies. Had they kept up with the technology and provided a comparable device at a competitive price, we would have stayed with Cisco. What about the implementation team? We hired a contractor to set up the units. The IT manager and I, being the network admin, are the only ones who touch it. We try to keep the software updated on all of our devices. What other advice do I have? My advice to anybody who is implementing this product is to make sure that they fully understand Junos OS. Over the past four years, I have become moderately proficient with Juniper SRX. There still a lot to learn but I also have contractors that I can get assistance from if needed. For example, currently, I'm trying to set up RADIUS and I'm having some problems with it. In summary, I think that their design philosophy is really good, but the execution leaves a bit to be desired. I would rate this solution a six out of ten. Which deployment model are you using for this solution? On-premises Disclaimer: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not reliable or easy to install, support and pricing need improvement What is our primary use case? The primary use case of this solution is as a high-capacity firewall. What needs improvement? It was very difficult to deal with and required a lot of support, and the UI is very poor. I didn't like this product at all. We faced many issues with the power supply causing many outages with this SRX box. We experienced outage issues when load-balancing between two availability architectures, which had an effect on the availability. Once we started to deal with this solution, it was very difficult to troubleshoot. It was not straightforward at all when comparing to Cisco. We always had support tickets. More than 50 tickets per month exceeded the SLA by more than two weeks. Better support is needed. In the next release, this solution needs to be stable, offer better support, better pricing, and less expensive to migrate. For how long have I used the solution? I have been using Juniper SRX for more than five years. We are using the latest version but will be dismantling this product soon. What do I think about the stability of the solution? It is not stable at all. There are many outages. We will not continue using this solution. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? We did not have problems with scaling, as we have less than 500 users in our organization. How are customer service and technical support? Technical support was not helpful. The support was horrible. Once we started our investigation, we were faced with another support engineer calling to go over the first steps again. We needed to restart the investigation from the beginning of the week. How was the initial setup? The installation was not straightforward. It took more than one month to set it up. What about the implementation team? We had a team of three technicians to implement this solution. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? One of the main reasons for dismantling this solution is that were asked to migrate the old books to the new books using Juniper and to transfer the policies and firewalls by using licensing. It was very expensive to upgrade to their products. The product itself is costly and the price of migration is very high. What other advice do I have? I do not recommend this product and instead, would recommend using FortiGate. I would rate Juniper SRX a zero. I would not even give it a one out of ten. Which deployment model are you using for this solution? On-premises Disclaimer: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Scalable with good technical support and works well for larger organizations What is our primary use case? We had implemented two SRXs in high availability mode. They were used, generally, for firewall and NAT translation tables, for forwarding for services, and connecting branch offices. We have a constant internet connection, which is directly connected with the branch offices, in general. We didn't explicitly configure or use any specific SRX features regarding the filtering of URLs or something that a UTM could use, since Juniper has a more advanced configuration and, in general, a UI that's made for the customer. What is most valuable? The solution is mostly stable. We get technical support via the reseller, and they are very helpful. You can scale the solution. The solution works well for larger organizations. What needs improvement? We've had some issues with the firmware. The solution is quite advanced. You need a lot of training to use it effectively. When we bought the equipment, and we have more Juniper devices, not just SRX, they started to malfunction. I'm not sure why. All the devices that we bought were from the year 2018. We had the EX4600. Something was not working with this device. It was offline. We bought everything in twos so we could make a high availability with all of them. The current has malfunctioned, and all the warranties have also expired. We are, generally, expecting malfunctioning, maybe in the next few years. I was planning to switch the Juniper equipment with something else to avoid this. It does not have a simple user interface. The warranty offered on the devices isn't long enough. it would be better if you could extend it out to five or eight years. Otherwise, you have to be very careful with the equipment. I'm not sure if Juniper SRX can filter emails or block viruses. I'm not familiar with these aspects as I haven't had that much experience using the SRX inside the UI. However, if they do not, it would be ideal if they did. I'm not sure if it can deflect any kind of DDoS attack. The one particular issue that I've seen on the SRX, is if you have SSH enabled and if there is a large number of SSH connections, when a brute force attack happens, the SRX, in general, tends to become unstable, or it resets by itself. That's one issue that's particularly making me angry, and I had to request the reseller to block the SSH permanently, or just to allow access, so only they can connect. For how long have I used the solution? Juniper SRX was implemented in our company at the start of 2018. What do I think about the stability of the solution? While the solution has been running stable, one device has also malfunctioned. We had some issues with Juniper in general. It was regarding the firmware and some box, or something like that. We've needed to contact our reseller more frequently to fix the issues that are occurring when using the device. Regarding stability, it's pretty much working in a stable way. I haven't had any issues regarding, let's say, speeds or connectivity or general day-to-day use, when users connected on the switches and accessing the internet, and so on. That said, sometimes with the devices, strange issues happen. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? Regarding scalability, generally, it is simple, I would say, at least from my perspective. I wasn't the person that configured the devices, however. The reseller was. Before the Corona crisis, there were 250 users. Now we've got maybe 90 to 100 people. How are customer service and technical support? We generally contact the reseller that sold us the device and also has a maintenance protocol. We have services on-demand when some issues arise and we need help. The reseller was pretty good regarding ticket issues, management, or making modifications, even during the production time. They are really trusted people, and a trusted IT company, and they've expertly managed all the requirements that I've sent them or any other modification on the network that I wanted to have. Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch? I've used Cyber and a Sophos UTM device. Juniper is, generally, more advanced. I haven't been able to get enough training to maintain the Juniper device. The main reason we chose Juniper was the stability, and the number of concrete connections that users can make when, let's say, they going out to the internet, and accessing services over the internet. Also, regarding the network port-forwarding to internal servers, in services, the device that we had before was Cyberoam UTM, and it didn't quite handle the high load. I generally noticed that SRX can handle pretty high network loads when going in or out. It's proven itself to be stable in that regard. How was the initial setup? The initial setup was generally handled by the reseller and they did the setup as described on the schematic and regarding core network configuration, high availability, security, firewalls, et cetera. It was, generally, out of the box when it was configured and set up from the ground up. While the setup was planned in 2017, it was up and running in 2018. It took about six months or so. We switched office buildings, the main office. The new office was built with this solution. Everything was migrated, including all the network devices, all the servers, all the ISP, internet connections, and so on. Everything was, generally, carefully planned when it was deployed. Our reseller also handles the maintenance. Generally, that takes one or two people. What about the implementation team? Our reseller partner handled the initial setup for the most part. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? I can't speak to the licensing. It's not an aspect I handle directly. I can't say that there are extra costs involved beyond the licensing fee. Which other solutions did I evaluate? We are currently using Juniper SRX, however, I was thinking about maybe changing the devices to FortiGate or a UTM device. Lately I was thinking about simplifying. Maybe FortiGate might have something more user-friendly for the end-user or for the customer experience. What other advice do I have? I'm just a customer and an end-user. We are using the SRX Model 345. It's a physical device. It's not a virtual instance. In general, I wouldn't recommend Juniper to, for example, a small business. I would maybe recommend it to a bigger company. We might have made a mistake taking Juniper. Maybe we should have used something more user-friendly. I would recommend it to a company that has more than 250 people. Or maybe even over 300. For a smaller company, it's not financially, efficient in the long-term, in terms of subscriptions or maintenance costs and similar things. A company that uses high-grade enterprise equipment, should be really financially equipped to handle such things. It's highly advanced, at least for me. I would really need some training to at least handle some basic things, or maintenance, or even Firmware upgrading or high availability configurations. It's too advanced for me. I would really need to have some kind of network specialist certificate to manage them. I would be really worried about the warranty as a new user as well. You really need to keep the subscriptions up to date, or not to stop them. If you've stopped them, you also need to pay penalties for the years that the subscriptions weren't used. Regarding equipment, you really need to have them in twos, not one. You need to have high availability for all of them. The equipment tends to malfunction, specifically if there are any power issues inside the building, or if there isn't any generator or UPS underneath, and so on. The equipment really needs to be taken care of. I'd rate the solution at an eight out of ten. Disclaimer: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Scalable and easy to use, but the interface could still be improved What is our primary use case? This product is our network firewall. What is most valuable? The Juniper SRX series is easy to use. What needs improvement? The interface could be more user-friendly. For how long have I used the solution? I have been using Juniper SRX for a few years. How are customer service and technical support? I have never needed to contact Juniper technical support. How was the initial setup? I have not been involved in the installation of this device. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? There is a licensing fee. What other advice do I have? This is a product that I can recommend to others. I would rate this solution a seven out of ten. Which deployment model are you using for this solution? Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stable, good for putting policies in place and quite stable What is our primary use case? We use the solution for protection and security. We primarily use the solution for an internal firewall. How has it helped my organization? If you require any particular rule that needs to be modified, any particular rule that needs to be fine-tuned, the solution will give you all the details regarding how to fine-tune the policy, including the destination, IP, et cetera. You can easily fine-tune whatever you need to in Juniper. It's easy to implement and meets our patience threshold. What is most valuable? The dashboard is very helpful. It's extremely useful in terms of putting the necessary policies in place. I handle the operation part. I'm just putting policies, et cetera, on Juniper. For tasks such as those, it is very easy and it is a comfortable, straightforward process. The solution has proven to be quite stable. Technical support has been quite helpful. What needs improvement? I've noticed that the management interface could use some updates and upgrades. The dashboard can be updated. The reporting could be more robust and in-depth. I've looked into the Check Point firewall a bit and I've found that its anti-spoofing is a good feature. Juniper should consider adding that as a feature. I've only just begun to really use the product. I only have one year of experience so far. It's still new to me. Therefore, it's hard to make any notes on any features or improvements, as I'm still familiarizing myself with everything. I need time to compare it to other firewalls, and I have not gone through the process of doing that just yet. I need more time. For how long have I used the solution? I've been dealing with the solution for about one year. It hasn't been that long. What do I think about the stability of the solution? It is really stable. I've seen Juniper work well in my other companies as well. It is very good, in terms of stability. There are no bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze. The performance is reliable. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? Overall, the scalability is very good. A company should have no trouble with scaling if it would like to do so. We have about 2,000 users currently. They cover various roles in our organization. It's not just used by a specific team. How are customer service and technical support? The technical support on offer is very good. Whenever I would have some issues, they have responded on time and they have really good knowledge of the product. We've been quite satisfied overall. Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch? We use a variety of solutions, including Cisco and Check Point. How was the initial setup? I did not handle the initial implementation. That was handled by someone else. Therefore, I can't really share any insights on the process. I do not know if it was easy or difficult, or how long it really took to deploy. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? I do not handle the licensing arrangements. That's handled by management. Therefore, I can't speak to how much it costs the organization or how often we pay a licensing fee. What other advice do I have? We're just a customer and an end-user. In general, on a scale from one to ten, I'd rate this product at a nine. We've been quite satisfied with its capabilities so far. I'd recommend the solution, however, it really depends on what an organization needs. There are various factors, like pricing, for example, that should be taken into account when looking at solutions. Which deployment model are you using for this solution? Rated 5 out of 5 by from Interface uncomplicated, integrates efficiently, and desirable features What is our primary use case? We use the solution as a device to meet NTLS connections, a firewall, and we are thinking about using it for SD-WAN. What is most valuable? The firewall features and the routing capability are the most valuable. The interface is straightforward and we have not had any problems with integration. What needs improvement? Their models for service providers could improve. We are an MSP, we resell services and I think the company could have a better program for service providers because our needs are different from our regular customer that is buying it for. More recently we started using the GUI interface and that looks pretty shameful and needs improvement. Juniper has a different product line that has artificial intelligence capabilities. In the future, we would like to see that extended to the SRX line. For how long have I used the solution? I have been using the solution for approximately two years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? We have found the solution to be very stable. We have had literally little to no hardware or device failures in the field and have not had any customer complaints. In the years we have been using the solution we have not had any issues using it. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? The scalability is good. The solution is best for small to medium size businesses. How are customer service and technical support? We had to use the support in a couple of instances. When we have used the support, it was good. They were responsive and able to resolve our issues. There is also some community support online that I have found to be helpful. How was the initial setup? The installation difficulty depends on the setup. Initially, when we started using the solution, we were using the command line interface and it took us a while to learn the commands, eventually, it becomes straightforward. What about the implementation team? The full deployment took us approximately one month. We typically need only one person for deployment, and we have a service operation center that manages the devices and provides the maintenance. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? The price could improve, it is a bit expensive. Our licensing cost is approximately $120.00 USD annually. There are some extra fees, for example, the GUI has an orchestrator that has its own fees. Which other solutions did I evaluate? Some of our clients have also seen similar solutions from our competitors such as Cisco and Fortinet. I think technically they are all very good products. However, for us we were looking for a product that was stable and had good support, this is the reason we chose Juniper. We package Juniper as part of our managed service to our customers. What other advice do I have? My advice would be, generally, it is a good product with helpful support. The one thing we would like to see changes in is the pricing could be better. I rate Juniper SRX an eight out of ten. Which deployment model are you using for this solution? Rated 5 out of 5 by from Robust operating in an HA environment, but it is expensive and the training videos should be improved What is our primary use case? We are a solution provider and we work closely with our clients to identify their requirements, and then we suggest a solution. Once they accept it, we implement it. The Juniper SRX is one of the models that our clients have chosen. It is primarily used as a firewall. What is most valuable? The most valuable feature is robustness. What needs improvement? The training videos that are available need to be improved, and made more educative. This will help users to become more familiar with the product. For how long have I used the solution? I have been using Juniper SRX for the past four years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? We had suggested an HA-based environment, or architecture in the majority of places that we have implemented Juniper. In these cases, it has been very stable. There have been other products that we couldn't upgrade to the latest format, but Juniper could always be upgraded. It always worked and never crashed. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? I am not very sure about scalability, but I believe that we were able to migrate a few of the lower models to the high-end models and it worked perfectly well. There was no problem. How are customer service and technical support? They have technical support over the phone as well as the online ticketing system and that has worked out pretty well. They have been able to solve problems for us, although I do not know all of the details because we direct our clients to them. When our clients get in touch with customer support to resolve their issues, they share the information with us later. Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch? I sell other products from vendors such as F5, and they have a good training facility online. Juniper is behind in terms of video training that they have available. How was the initial setup? The initial setup is not very easy. We had faced problems in the GUI, so we had to switch back to the CLI to get things done. While using the GUI, it was pretty easy and we could accomplish things by just clicking. However, for some reason, there were errors and we had to complete it using the CLI. I have no idea why this was the case, but we finally achieved what we wanted. What about the implementation team? Our team implements this product for our clients. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? This is an expensive product. The buying power of companies in my region is such that perhaps 5% of them are pretty good. The majority of them are very bad in terms of buying power, so they look at the cost of these solutions and Juniper is not able to match the price. Which other solutions did I evaluate? There are several options that we offer for our clients. These include Pala Alto, Cisco, Dell, SonicWall, F5, and FireEye. Some of our clients choosing Juniper, whereas others choose a solution from another vendor. The majority of our clients choose Cisco or FireEye. What other advice do I have? Most of the companies that we deal with have a committee that takes care of purchases. We sit with the committee and they iterate through the various benefits of the solutions, after which the purchase is finalized. We are not biassed toward any particular product. We explain everything to our clients, show them the prices, and they come back to say what product they have chosen. In summary, this is a good product, although it is a little bit expensive and the training could be improved. Training is something that is very important, and we were not able to get much information. For example, we couldn't get the best-recommended practices, which is something that we look at when implementing solutions. We were able to get a few of them, although not all of them have been updated. Consequently, we have a shortage of information about Juniper. Nonetheless, customer support has been able to help us in a big way. Overall, things have been a bit slow, but we have been able to catch up. I would rate this solution a seven out of ten. Which deployment model are you using for this solution? Hybrid Cloud Disclaimer: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to install, stable, and has the consistent Juniper CLI What is our primary use case? I used this solution in my previous organization. We used it to protect data centers and some private resources. What is most valuable? What I like the most about Juniper is that they have the same CLI on all routers, switches, and firewalls. If you have worked with any Juniper device, such as a Juniper router, you will be able to work with an SRX, which is really cool. It is a nice experience to work with every device of Juniper, not only firewalls. What needs improvement? As a networking person, I don't really have any major issues with this device. Based on my experience of using it in a cluster, it could be more stable. I had an incident when one of the SRXs in a cluster couldn't learn ARP. It is a good solution, but firewalls don't seem to be an area of development for Juniper. They are focusing on data centers, routers, and switches, not firewalls. What do I think about the stability of the solution? Its stability isn't bad. In two years of supporting this device, I had only one issue. I had an incident when one of the SRXs in a cluster couldn't learn ARP, and the request didn't move between cluster units. I had to fix this manually, which wasn't really cool because I had to get up in the night because of this incident. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? We weren't using it in a high load infrastructure. How are customer service and technical support? I didn't really need their support. I only needed their support for the demo of their CSR product because it wasn't working as mentioned in their documents. How was the initial setup? Its initial setup is straightforward. If you are a network engineer with some experience, you will be able to configure it easily. I have configured many Juniper firewalls, and it was really easy. Configuring the device isn't a problem. The main problem is preparing the environment and the infrastructure for your device. It took more than one year to use this solution in production because I used a lot of features in my demo infrastructure, such as VSRX, to demonstrate this solution to potential and existing customers. What other advice do I have? I like the SRX series. In fact, I like all products from Juniper. I would rate Juniper SRX an eight out of ten. Which deployment model are you using for this solution? Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best after-sales support, reasonable price, 100% stability, and good security and performance What is our primary use case? We are using 300 series and 1500 series models. What is most valuable? It is a complete security bundle. The cloud-based Sky Advanced Threat Prevention feature is very valuable. I am 100% satisfied with the performance of the Juniper firewall. It has a very good throughput. It works very fine. We use our firewall as a site-to-site VPN or Software-Defined Wide Area Network (SD-WAN). In both cases, it has a very good and optimum performance. Their service support is very good in India. I get really good support from the Juniper team. What needs improvement? It must be 5G ready. The 5G network is rolling out soon in India, and Juniper must upgrade their firewall slot to the 5G network, or they must manufacture a 5G dongle card for the Juniper firewall. I want Juniper to upgrade their dongle from 4G to 5G. Presently, they have an expansion slot in the SRX 322 series and higher firewalls. In that expansion slot, they can put a 4G mobility SIM card so that whenever our primary link is down, it will automatically connect through this GSM network and form a tunnel. For how long have I used the solution? I have been using this solution for three years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? It is 100% stable. They have a common operating system for firewalls, routers, and LAN switches. How are customer service and technical support? Their technical support is excellent. As compared to any other company, Juniper has better support in India. We have a very good understanding, and I get good support from them. Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch? I have worked with Sophos and SonicWall. As far as the real packet forwarding internet mix is concerned, Juniper is far better than SonicWall, FortiGate, Sophos, and Cisco. How was the initial setup? The setup of any firewall is always complex because we have to customize features according to customer requirements. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? Its price is reasonable. In India, most of the products have a similar price. There is only a 5% to 10% variation in the price of different brands. What other advice do I have? I would recommend this solution to others. They can blindly go with Juniper. Juniper has very good after-sales support. Their technical team is very aggressive in support, and they give very good support to the customers. I plan to keep using this solution. Currently, there is no plan to switch from Juniper to any other brand. I am 100% satisfied with Juniper. They provide a very good service to my customers. I don't have any concerns about after-sales support with Juniper. I would rate Juniper SRX a ten out of ten. Rated 5 out of 5 by from A stable high-performance network security solution that's easy to use What is our primary use case? We use Juniper SRX to create VPN tunnels to the data center. What is most valuable? I like that Juniper SRX is easy to use, scalable, and stable with good performance. What needs improvement? In the next release, I would like to have a better web interface. It needs to be more user-friendly. Right now, you can only access many features through the console. For how long have I used the solution? We have been using Juniper SRX for about five years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? Juniper SRX is a stable solution that performs well. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? Juniper SRX is a scalable solution. How are customer service and technical support? Technical support is brilliant, but I guess you have to pay for it. How was the initial setup? The initial setup was straightforward. The time it takes to implement this solution depends on the complexity of the configuration. What about the implementation team? We implemented this solution by ourselves. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? In general, their price definitely couldn't be cheaper. What other advice do I have? I would recommend this solution to potential users. On a scale from one to ten, I would give Juniper SRX a ten. Which deployment model are you using for this solution? It's very stable. What needs improvement? It could be more secure. For how long have I used the solution? I have been using Juniper SRX for about five years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? Very stable. These firewalls are stable. Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch? We had Cisco, but when comparing the price, Juniper SRX was cheaper. What other advice do I have? I would recommend this solution to new users. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid system for network protection What is our primary use case? Our main use case for Juniper SRX is for gateway level protection for all internet users and UTM and to control the user when accessing websites, applications and non-relevant sites. Our main purpose for using the Juniper security solution is because we are also using Cisco routers, switches etc.. and we wanted unity in the OEM products so that we can maintain all the products in NMS. What is most valuable? The features that I have found valuable are the ones for the main purpose we are using Juniper - its firewall to protect our network for our internet access. What needs improvement? In terms of what could be improved, J-Web, Juniper Web, is sometimes not working great when users are increasing their internet use. Additionally, they need to improve the GUI, graphical user interface, and the firewall management needs to improve. Their CLI is good, but sometimes the GUI is very slow. Also, the UTM, Unified Threat Management, feature needs to be improved. For how long have I used the solution? We have been using Juniper SRX since January 2018. What do I think about the stability of the solution? Juniper SRX is stable. Stability is okay. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? Juniper SRX has scalability. Its current site has 1500 users and we can upgrade to 2 K users. Right now, we have around 500 - 600 total users, but I think some sections are still under deployment, so all the users are around the 1700 - 1800 range. How are customer service and support? We connected with tech support seven or eight months ago. We got good support and a good response. How was the initial setup? The initial setup is complex. It takes one week's time for deployment because we are also integrated with Active Directory and Radius Contactless. What about the implementation team? We did it with our own team. Which other solutions did I evaluate? Before choosing Juniper, we compared it with two other solutions, but they were banned because they were Chinese products. What other advice do I have? I suppose Juniper is a good solution for the railway and metro environment. These projects are very handy and work in the relevant environmental condition, because in this environment we have different climatic conditions. Suppose we require -5 to 55, -5 to 85 compression, some EMCMI specifications, such as EN501214 - Juniper is a good solution in the railway and metro environment, anywhere worldwide and domestic. It is relevant anywhere. On a scale of one to ten, I would give Juniper SRX an eight. Which deployment model are you using for this solution? Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to set up with good documentation and responsive technical support What is our primary use case? The solution is primarily used in two ways: to protect our three data centers and servers. It works at protecting both areas from malicious attacks. What is most valuable? We have worked with the solution for a while and therefore have become quite versed in it. We're comfortable with its tech and have a good understanding of how best to use it. The initial setup was easy. In terms of usability, there are good forums on offer and they've got a lot of technical documentation for everything. Technical support is good. They quickly respond, and they even have local help here. They can actually give you an answer very quickly. The solution has been stable over the years. What needs improvement? The capacity can be limiting. We have outgrown its capacity. You can only scale up to a certain extent, depending on the device purchased. There are cheaper options on the market. The reporting and alerts could be improved. If you had alerts, whereby you can have things like intrusion detection systems quickly alerting the security managers of a breach would be helpful. They need to work on the user interface. Most tasks are done by commands, and if you don't have experience using the command line, it's terrible. They should make it easier. For how long have I used the solution? We've only been using the latest solution for a few days. It's quite new to us. It replaced a previous version, which we had for five years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? The stability is quite good. It's very reliable as long as your power is okay. It's a good device and good software and is a great piece of equipment, however, if your power has any issues, then you are likely to lose it after power surges. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? Scalability is limited and you need the right sizing. In our case, our device has reached the end of life, and there are no more plugins that we can actually use. How are customer service and technical support? We're quite satisfied with technical support. They are very helpful and responsive and there is good documentation. Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch? We've also used Cyberoam, which is now Sophos. How was the initial setup? The initial setup was very straightforward. It's an easy process and not very difficult or complex. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? The license we have now is perpetual, however, going forward, with a newer version, we're looking at annual or bi-annual licensing. The cost is not cheap or overly expensive. It's middle of the road. What other advice do I have? We are just a customer. It's a good device overall. I'd recommend it to other users and companies. As long as a customer is buying something that is supported and has a good lifespan, they should be happy. I'd rate the solution at an eight out of ten. Which deployment model are you using for this solution? On-premises Disclaimer: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Competitively Priced Network and Cybersecurity Solution What is our primary use case? Our primary use case is consultation and deployment of the solution. We operate as a Juniper Elite Partner. Our customers, large enterprises, want to prevent network failure and downtime. What needs improvement? Improvements can be made to the GUI. The GUI can be improved by creating policies to handle IPS requirements. The configuration should be a one-step process. This would make it easier to complete the setup to register the time of operation. For how long have I used the solution? Three to five years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? Yes, it's very stable. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? It's scalable. Juniper Select has a solution to boot in high availability technology. We use the Juniper Select from low-end and high-end. In my position as a Senior Network Security Engineer, I handle the high-end suite of Juniper Select 5K. Currently, the solution is being used every day. We have plans to increase usage in the future. How are customer service and technical support? Technical support is good. They seem to understand our customer's requirements. When they troubleshoot or support our customers, they seem to know what they are doing. They seem to be very helpful. But customers need support right away, and this has been an issue. It can take two to three days to get help some times just because of the volume of ticket request. If you previously used a different solution, which one did you use and why did you switch? Previously we used a CISCO ASA solution. But in the last three years, we switched to the Juniper solution because Juniper has a competitive price per feature. How was the initial setup? The initial setup was complex. It took a group of five, engineers and architects, to get it up and running within 24-hours. And it takes a group of five, engineers and IT experts, to operate and maintain What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? Licensing which covers maintenance is on an annual basis. Our customers are on one-year contracts. There are additional cost above and beyond the standard licensing fees. Which other solutions did I evaluate? Before choosing Juniper, we evaluated a Fortinet solution because Fortinet has a competitive price. It's also effortless for our engineers to operate and maintain. They can understand and complete tasks quickly. What other advice do I have? Further advice regarding this solution is that anyone planning to implement this product should understand the Juniper suite. They should understand the firewall concept, Juniper configuration, and the command line. They need previous experience with Juniper products. On a scale from one to ten, one being the worst and ten being the best I'd give Juniper SRX an overall rating of eight because of its' competitive price. But it's a very complex product compared with other similar products. Disclaimer: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Enables us to integrate a firewall and router in a single product but IPS needs improvement What is our primary use case? We leverage this as a firewall and for IT tech services. It's more of a firewall used in a router sorting device. I see major benefits from leveraging it like this. How has it helped my organization? This is a product on the customer side, not in our services. What I have identified so far is that, considering the complex deployment that the customer wanted to make, the scalability with the feature support that they already have, and its functionality provided, Juniper SRX was one of the better products available. It helped us to scale well with that product customer requirement because they wanted the IT side on a virtual router, with a firewall so it was integrated to work. Such a complex setup cannot be easily accomplished by just using a firewall. SRX actually helps us scale and integrate the product according to customer requirements. It also helped us with its routing capabilities which eased the cost, because otherwise I would have had to take a router and firewall, and then integrate it. With this, however, it was an integration of firewall and routing services all together in a single product. That was one thing that I loved about it. What is most valuable? IPS is something that I do not find valuable, but the other features are awesome. Firewall IP second router is good, but IPS needs to be worked upon. What needs improvement? IPS, or IDS services, need improvement. Their major problem is that you have to integrate it with MSN or web building services, you need to buy support for that and services but you cannot. The best thing that I see was a filtering service with custom categories that I can create. If I buy a license, I can integrate it with a different product, but their own web building services is poor. So they can improve web building services, as well as look for application awareness, and maybe, with IPS, they can have their own built-in services rather than integration with MSN for using IPS. There are three things that can be improved. IPS is one that I would definitely want to be improved. I would also like SSL VPN to be integrated. Other than that, I guess it's doing a firewall, so I would say it's cool. Next in features, I would want that to be included, along with SSL VPN, if possible. Other than that for the product, I don't think there's a need for doing anything with this. For how long have I used the solution? More than 7 or 8 years What do I think about the stability of the solution? It's cool. I would say it's one of the most stable services. Providing for redundancy is a bit challenging, but it actually is something that can be worked upon because they have a different concept of highway building, as opposed to general people doing stuff. I would say it is a good, stable product, except for the problematic part of it. If people are not aware of how to deal with it, it can be very cumbersome. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? You can scale it well, but when you scale you need to take a product out to another one. On a scale level, it's a very good scalable product. It's a good firewall so if you pump it in high traffic, it will be able to adapt to it, unless and until you outgrow its throughput. Then you would either have to get a new model or maybe if you have to avert your firewall, you might have to upgrade it to a new version. So far it's a good product. This was for a 1,000 user base. You don't need extra staff to maintain the solution. Unless and until you have a problem of lags or circuit issues, I don't think you need extra staff. One SE should be fine with this product. I think there will be future plans to increase usage and get more devices. We are also trying to leverage this into a cloud platform, so there would be some more usage. How are customer service and technical support? The technical support or tech team is good. So far, when I worked with them, they have been able to resolve issues firmly. If they cannot do it, they connect you with someone you can work with, so they can just connect to the engineering team. Their data services is something which is really good. However, their documentation is a bit more challenging. They have unsourced to work, like knowledge base articles and stuff, but they would need to work a bit more on the documentation to compare with Cisco documentation. That's something that they can improve on. They have good documentation. The documentations are clear, but there is not sufficient content available. How was the initial setup? The initial setup was very simple. I would say it was the simplest one to date. What about the implementation team? Deployment time depends on the solution. This was a very complex one, so it took us four weeks to get the most complexity out of it. I think taking a single deployment, it would not be more than a couple of hours. If you are already working with Juniper products, it would be a couple of hours. If you're not working with Juniper products, maybe a week, not more than a week. I did the implementation myself, I don't normally take help but in scenarios where documentation is not available, I do go ahead and refer it out but this was simple. I don't think I needed the technical support staff, but I have worked with Juniper tech for certain scenarios in integrating this. It was tax-supported, non-profit services. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? There was no additional licensing cost because there were no IPS services. It was just a firewall IP circuit router so they have the default licensing. We just need to renew the support yearly. Which other solutions did I evaluate? Our customer evaluated Palo Alto also. They liked it, and even integrated it, but the scalability requirements they had were an issue. They loved Palo Alto for the security services, but their requirement was routing and security in a single device. That's the reason they were not able to go with the Palo Alto services, but they chose Juniper. What other advice do I have? If you're looking for a product that can give you routing as well as security services, and you're not looking for too much taxing on the security part, I guess this is a good product. If, however, you're looking for security services on a greater edge, maybe something like next-gen firewall features, referencing services, or IPS to a greater level, I would recommend going with other security products. If you want integration of both, you can use this, and maybe if you evaluate, or move forward with better services over a period of time and better models of that, maybe this is something that you can always look for both, routing as well as security services. SRX is a security product that's not that good on security, but it's good at routing, so they actually balance out. I would rate them around six of ten. Cisco does one thing right. Cisco has AnyConnect so they can fully integrate SSL routing services. Previously Juniper used to have Pulse Secure and MAG devices. They sold it off to Pulse Secure, but maybe they could try to integrate SSL VPN with their products. Maybe that would help them increase market share. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to implement and use, with better technical support than other solutions What is most valuable? The most valuable features in this solution are AppSecure and the IPsec VPN. What needs improvement? The solution previously had a Clientless SSL VPN, but it has been removed and I would like access to it again. The GUI needs improvement. I can work fine with the command line (CLI), but new people would like a better user interface. I would like to see an SSH VPN in the next release. For how long have I used the solution? Almost ten years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? I am very satisfied with the stability of this solution. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? We have more than one hundred users for this solution. They range from non-technical, Level 1 users, up to administrators, technical support staff, and expert-level users. How are customer service and technical support? I am satisfied with their technical support. It is better than what I have experienced with some other solutions. If you previously used a different solution, which one did you use and why did you switch? This is the first solution that we implemented. How was the initial setup? I find the setup simple, given that I have been using it for ten years. The deployment is quite easy and fast. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? The price of this solution is more than other products, but it's stable, and the technical support is better than I have seen with others. Which other solutions did I evaluate? The solution was in place before I joined the company, so I am unaware if we evaluated other solutions. What other advice do I have? We have found this solution to be easy to implement and easy to use. It is a little more expensive than some products, but it is worth the investment. I would rate this solution an eight out of ten. Rated 5 out of 5 by from The operating system and the flexibility it provides is what really differentiates this solution What is our primary use case? The primary use case is a combination of a firewall, router, and VPN termination device. How has it helped my organization? It allows us to do remote configuration changes, and if there is a problem, not losing connectivity to the device. What is most valuable? I really like the Juniper operating system. It is more of a UNIX based system, more than Cisco, and I really like it. There is a lot of flexibility in how you can commit, check, and back out of a configuration. What needs improvement? In terms of improvement, it could use more on the security side. It's a good stable firewall, but it's nowhere near what it needs to be for a next-generation type firewall. They also need to improve their documentation. With Cisco, you can find lots of examples, but with Juniper, it is not always the case. One area that needs more focus is instruction on how to interoperate with other vendor's products. I would like to see documentation on running IPsec tables between Fortinet and Juniper or Cisco and Juniper because the information is not there. Their technical support also needs improvement, as they are lagging behind Cisco. For how long have I used the solution? Eight years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? This is a very, very stable solution. Again, their operating system is outstanding. Really, this is what differentiates it. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? In terms of scalability, it clusters nicely so you can put it into a stacked mode. The size that it is meant to serve, it does very well. It is not meant as a large enterprise-type firewall. Rather, it is meant for a small to medium sized customer. We currently have about seventy-five users, and we don't plan to increase that number at this time. How are customer service and technical support? I would say that their technical support is ok, but it needs improvement. This is an area where they are not as good as Cisco. If you previously used a different solution, which one did you use and why did you switch? We migrated to this solution from a Cisco ASA (Adaptive Security Appliance). How was the initial setup? Transitioning from the Cisco ASA that we had running took about two hours of planning and another two hours of execution time. In terms of the maintenance, myself and one other person take care of everything. We take on small contracts all over the place. What about the implementation team? I handled the implementation for this solution myself. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? The pricing is perhaps half to around forty percent of Cisco. Which other solutions did I evaluate? Juniper is my favorite and I had used it so much that we did not evaluate any other products. What other advice do I have? This solution is really nice to use. It's very similar in terms of capabilities to a Cisco, but it's just that the operating system is so much nicer to use. I would say that you need some time to get comfortable with the operating system if you've never used it before, but don't let that scare you. Buy it and put it on your desk for a week, then play with it. If you've got a live environment or if you've got some type of simulation you can set it up in, it won't take long and you can feel comfortable using it. I would rate this product an eight and a half out of ten. Disclaimer: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The throughput is fine but the CLI is verbose, especially when configuring What is our primary use case? Our primary use case is security. The performance has been okay. It's a bit of a change from the Ciscos in terms of the configuration syntax, from the CLI perspective. We use it just as a firewall. We don't use it for routing functionality. How has it helped my organization? The Juniper was a later model, later technology than we had, more horsepower than we had before. The performance is better, but it could have been any firewall in its peer group. The improvement was because our old firewalls were, well, old. So the performance has been an improvement. And the IDS, perhaps, is a little better than what the older firewalls had. What is most valuable? I'm not sure what the most valuable features are. I'm not really that impressed with the technical support. I'm not really that impressed with the product, to be honest with you. Throughput seems to be okay. What needs improvement? The CLI is verbose. You have to say a lot to do a little. I don't like that part of it. Cisco's command syntax seems to be a good bit more concise. When you're trying to get something done, you don't want to have to type a bunch. I wish there was a quicker way to configure through the CLI. I know all the tricks of hitting spacebar etc. to finish the command, and the context tricks of going further in. But it just reminds me of an older operating system, like VAX/VMS. It's just very verbose. Maybe this is where the Space Security Director product comes in, but we aren't quite using the Security Director in Space to its fullest yet. For how long have I used the solution? One to three years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? It seems stable. We haven't had too many failures. We have had some but, by and large, it's been pretty stable. It's not taxed, the way we're using it. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? The model we have is very scalable. It's a fairly large firewall. How is customer service and technical support? I have spoken with technical support 30 or 50 times. On a scale of one to 10, I would evaluate Juniper technical support at five. It's never resolved in one call. It's always a couple of calls. We're not being passed from one department to another, it's just that they don't seem to be answering the question you give them. It's very frustrating. How was the initial setup? I migrated it from an ASA to the Juniper. It was a fairly straightforward process. There are things that are required on the Juniper that weren't required on the Cisco, like the global address book. Things have to be on there before you can do a lot of net and the like. What other advice do I have? You need to know what your company's strategic vision is, and then map the security part of that. I don't just mean cost-related, but the strategy for profit-related future ventures. You need to know why you want a particular firewall. Don't ignore the functions and future growth and products on the horizon from each of the vendors. What you go with has to meet your current needs but, more importantly, is the company a going concern - meaning if they're going to get better - then how do they complement your particular industry's growth? Are they going to be there to make remote access and extranets and research easier to deliver? The product has to be configurable, with lots of options should you need to subscribe to those options. The most important criterion, for me, when selecting a vendor is that they have to rank high in industry ratings. Juniper has just not been there. I haven't seen the 2018 reports, but year after year Juniper is not only the least visionary but one of the least in terms of performance. I also don't like the fact that they spun off their VPN to Pulse Secure. I know that's a subsidiary, but I don't necessarily want to have a separate appliance for a light-duty VPN. I would rate Juniper at seven out of 10. It's a little harder to configure from a VPN perspective, VPN Tunnels. Their tech support is the big problem for me. I don't want to be bounced around. I don't want to get half an answer when I ask a whole question. I would take an inferior product with better tech support, without question. If I have a responsive engineering team that will fix problems when they come in, with firmware releases, etc., I'd clearly take an inferior product with that better support. It's all about function. I probably wouldn't have chosen the Juniper in this environment. We just don't need yet another knowledge base to learn. And it doesn't fold into some of our Cisco services. For example, the assets control doesn't integrate well with the Radius servers. Something like that could be downloadable ACLs, for instance. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Layer 3 and Layer 4 protection, but the solution is not end-to-end What is our primary use case? Juniper SRX is solely used as a firewall gateway. We use it only for interfacing with the internet and for server farms, as a data center firewall gateway. What is most valuable? Most of our clients use it as a traditional firewall, blocking Layer 3 and Layer 4, blocking by transport. What needs improvement? We also use firewalls from FortiGate and Palo Alto and they're built with technology to make them next-generation firewalls. Juniper utilizes a router OS and includes enhancements to make it a firewall. But FortiGate and Palo Alto are full-on firewalls because they are built from scratch with features which are specific to firewalls. Juniper needs to enhance the solution so that it is more powerful. They need to update the administrative tools to create an easier admin experience. An average administrator would find it easier to configure if they could use https rather than the command line interface to do so. In addition, it would be more powerful if Juniper brought out a security product other than firewalls, like anti-spam, endpoint protection, etc. Customers who want to deploy security solutions are not just thinking about firewalls. They're thinking about security across their environment. If Juniper could give me a security solution, beyond the firewall, that integrates with the firewall, that would be helpful. Other products have built a security fabric. So if a customer already uses one of their solutions, like a firewall, they will be thinking about integrating with that vendor's other products. If there is more than just a firewall solution, they will use that same vendor's products throughout the security environment. A security fabric is more powerful than just blocking via network parameters. Juniper should have an end-to-end solution, from the endpoint to the network level. It would provide a more powerful security solution to the customer. Customers are looking for a holistic security solution. For how long have I used the solution? Three to five years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? For one to three years it's stable. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? If users want to scale up the firewall, they basically want the cheapest firewall that gives them powerful features. Most users choose FortiGate rather than Juniper. Technically, Juniper's scalability is good. But when customers look at the overall price, FortiGate will come out cheaper than Palo Alto or Juniper. How are customer service and technical support? The technical support is good. The engineers help support our customers day-to-day. How was the initial setup? The setup depends on the deployment, on what we have to configure. But from one firewall to another firewall, it's about the same. They're not really complex. We have experience using the command line and the user interface. If you ask me which one is easier to configure, I will answer that configuring through the user interface is easier. The amount of time the deployment takes depends on the complexity of the solution. If the firewall is used as an L3 firewall or L4 firewall, for blocking by IP address and, it's going to be faster to deploy than deploying the firewall using Unified Threat Management. In that case, we need to carefully tune the VPN configuration. What was our ROI? The time for one of our customers to achieve ROI depends on the scalability of the product. It also depends on the type of organization. If it's a hospitality or government organization, it will take them more time to achieve ROI than an internet service provider, where using this product is in line with their business objectives. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? In terms of pricing, Juniper is in the middle. The most expensive firewall is Palo Alto. If a customer wants the cheapest price they should go for FortiGate. Juniper is in between these products. Which other solutions did I evaluate? From experience, we like to use firewalls from Palo Alto and FortiGate because the solution is easy to configure with a UI to execute the app. If we use Juniper firewalls, we don't really use the UI because it is not as easy as the command line interface for configuration. The VPN is different between Juniper and Palo Alto. As far as I know, Juniper does packet inspection in their VPN. Functions like anti-spam and antivirus are running step-by-step. Once the anti-spam processing is done, it goes on to antivirus scanning. But with Palo Alto, the technology is different. It copies each packet to each function. For example, if we activate anti-spam, antivirus, and another check, Palo Alto makes three copies of each packet and inspects them in parallel. This makes the system faster, compared to Juniper. This is the biggest difference as far as I know. What other advice do I have? Juniper is good at the routing protocol. If you want a solution to protect your environment from the internet, I would propose a firewall gateway solution but ultimately it depends on what the customer needs. We are partnered with Juniper, so if customers ask for a firewall solution, the first solution that we pick is generally a Juniper firewall. If a customer wants a firewall other than Juniper, we offer it. Usually, we will do a firewall like FortiGate or Palo Alto, if the customer has enough money, as Palo Alto is very expensive. Rated 5 out of 5 by from We are satisfied with its stability , but we don’t advise others to implement a cluster design other than Active/Passive. What is most valuable? Stateful inspection , IPSEC and NAT as per our customers' design. The boxes are used as SecGW, Gi and SGi Firewall, those are the features usually needed in 3G/4G context. How has it helped my organization? It improved in term of security. What needs improvement? Clustering fab interface doesn't support bandwidth aggregation. This limitation caused a huge design change in our network. For how long have I used the solution? I've used the solution for eight years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? Yes, some bugs in module restart and cluster failover, but without outage. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? Yes, fab interface doesn't support bandwidth aggregation How is customer service and technical support? 9 out of 10. Which solutions did we use previously? No, we didn't. How was the initial setup? Not complex. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? We didn’t use any other solutions so I can’t compare this to others. Which other solutions did I evaluate? Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good stability, routing and firewall features What is most valuable? I like the routing and firewall features. What needs improvement? The workplace management console needs improvement. It should be a little bit more developed. Also, the interface needs a bit more improvement. If the solution would have an intuitive interface would be much better because the work-based interface is not so perfectly developed and it's not ideal. It's not complete yet, and it makes it difficult for beginners and first-time users of this solution. As it is, for new users, it would make it very difficult for them to deploy this solution. Otherwise, the rest is fine. There's no other problem with it. For how long have I used the solution? I've been using the solution for four years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? In terms of stability, everything was okay except for one situation which happened about three years ago. There was an upgrade which was released. Once we got the upgrade on the software, it would crash and it wouldn't work as it had before, so we had to downgrade to the previous version. Once we started using that there was no problem. How are customer service and technical support? Due to sanctions, we haven't used the technical support of the original company so the maintenance and everything is done by us. If you previously used a different solution, which one did you use and why did you switch? We were using a different solution, a Microsoft solution. We were looking for a more affordable solution which would suit our needs. How was the initial setup? The initial setup was difficult the first time. It was a little bit complicated, but after it was done, we've been using it just fine and there's no problem with the use. It was the first time we were using a firewall, the initial setup procedure took about one month to define all the zones. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? We extend the license yearly and the prices, because of the sanctions, are expensive and costs much more compared to other solutions. It's pricey compared to other locations where there are representatives and you can buy directly from them. What other advice do I have? At the moment the solution satisfies our needs. There are no extra features that we need at the moment. I would rate this solution 8.5 out of 10 because it seems to satisfy our needs. Everything seems good and works fine. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Consolidation combines routing, switching, and firewall services in one device What is most valuable? * Form factor: It is small, very nimble, and can be deployed in very small environments which do not have wiring closets. * Consolidation: It combines routing, switching, and firewall services in one device. * Stable OS: There is a one Junos release training for all the Juniper products, thus minimizes the training needed and enhances interoperability. * Open standards: The Juniper OS is based on the open standards and making it very interoperable in the mixed vendor environments. * Superior performance: This can be achieved by true separation of control and data plane, hence data plane inefficiencies do not affect the control plane and vice versa. * Cloud-enabled device: The SRX300 is cloud-ready and can be used to implement SDSN in micro-environments. How has it helped my organization? It has greatly reduced the network management functions by reducing the number of devices to manage (one vs three), and easy fault management using the new GUI. What needs improvement? Disaggregation (this is available in the box) should be improved to include software intelligence that is actionable. For how long have I used the solution? I have used this solution for about four and a half years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? There were no stability issues. It is a very stable and reliable product. It can run for several years without a single glitch. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? It is highly scalable for its target market. How is customer service and technical support? The technical support team is very co-operative and gives quick responses for the logged cases. A hundred percent of the logged cases have been resolved within the SLA period. Which solutions did we use previously? We looked at MikroTik ( https://www.itcentralstation.com/vendors/mikrotik ). However, more features such as the performance, scalability, and consolidation were available on the Juniper device. How was the initial setup? The initial setup was simple and can be done 100% via the GUI. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? The price per performance value is the best out there in the market. No licensing is needed for all the features apart from the security part, i.e., no licensing for extra services and VPN comes free in the base. Which other solutions did I evaluate? We evaluated the FortiGate ( https://www.itcentralstation.com/products/fortinet-fortigate ) 80 and 60 series and Cisco ASA ( https://www.itcentralstation.com/products/cisco-asa ) 5500. What other advice do I have? The Juniper SRX300 is a stable and very reliable product, packed with a lot of capabilities that are not available in the competing products of the same range. I would highly recommend this product to anyone interested in implementing it. This box has it all and is more for the small-scale branch market. Packaged as an all-in-one routing, switching, and security solution, the SRX300 minimizes the need to deploy separate devices to perform these functions by leveraging on its consolidation, all coming with the carrier-grade capabilities. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to scale up by attaching more CPU and memory What is our primary use case? Our primary use is having a virtual appliance vSRX PoC in telco. We tested integration to their Vim, function and performance. How has it helped my organization? vSRX's performance is best with less resources, such as CPU and memory. It is easy to scale up by attaching more CPU and memory. What is most valuable? vSRX is easy to deploy to any virtual infrastructure, such as OpenStack, VMware, and even Docker (cSRX). It has already been tested with virtual acceleration, such as DPDK, SR-IOV, and PCI-Passthrough. What needs improvement? It could improve areas which need high performance. For how long have I used the solution? Still implementing. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? Small enterprises or telco have variant licenses, and this licensing model should be improved. Disclaimer: My company has a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer:

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Large total throughput, and we are able to change configurations without downtime How has it helped my organization? * Manipulation of rules * Flexibility in day-by-day use What is most valuable? Junos is the best OS for networks. It is very powerful and flexible. The rollback option and Commit Confirmed are great features. They give us the security to change configurations without downtime. What needs improvement? It would be good if Junos had "unique commands" between all hierarchical levels, discarding the use of the "Run" command. The robustness of Linux on top of Junos can be more effective after power down. For how long have I used the solution? Less than one year. What do I think about the stability of the solution? No stability issues. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? No scalability issues. How is customer service and technical support? High level of technical support. Which solutions did we use previously? We used Fortinet, and changed to Juniper to use Junos. How was the initial setup? Easy. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? Pricing is very good, not expensive. What other advice do I have? We use the SRX1500 with Junos 15.1X49-D75.5. I rate the product 10 out of 10. It is very strong and Junos is very powerful. Rated 5 out of 5 by from It protects the data behind our switches What is our primary use case? We use it as a perimeter firewall, data center firewall, and as VPN concentrators for some companies. It protects the data behind our switches. Our company provides the switches, like the EX-Series. We are an elite partners for Juniper. We use the firewall for data protection. How has it helped my organization? It has a high security implementation. What is most valuable? It integrates well with Fortinet and Palo Alto. It uses many applications, like antivirus blocking and web filtering. Also, defining routing on it is very easy along with netting. The high availability of the application is good. We use the IDS and IPsec VPN features. What needs improvement? I would like to see endpoint control and endpoint testing security. The GUI needs to be easier to handle. For how long have I used the solution? Less than one year. What do I think about the stability of the solution? The stability is good. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? The scalability is good. How is customer service and technical support? When we face problems, it is a firmware or software update. We call Juniper for support and they have a very good team for technical support. They help us a lot, then we will find the solution in the upgraded version of software of unit. Which solutions did we use previously? I think there was a problem before I came to the company with Cisco and their firewall, so they decided to switch to Juniper. How was the initial setup? It is more complex than other vendors, but we have gotten used to it. So, we find it easy to implement and deploy. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? It has a low price. Which other solutions did I evaluate? We are also using Fortinet and have a partnership with Palo Alto. In addition, we are looking into a partnership with Citrix. Cisco and FortiGate were on original shortlist. What other advice do I have? They can use the Juniper SRX as a data center firewall. Juniper needs to focus more on their perimeter firewalls. Our most important criteria is to look for 24-hour support, prices, partnerships, and what they offer to partners. Also, we want to know if the product can function with Juniper. Rated 5 out of 5 by from The virtualization feature is the most valuable feature, as sometimes customers request a private connection using mobile data What is our primary use case? We are using this solution mainly for the NPCs and the firewall of the mobile data customers. We are using it to protect the ISP of the mobile data customers: 2G, 3G, and 4G customers. What is most valuable? In terms of features, we are using Source NAT. The virtualization feature: Sometimes customers are requesting a private connection using mobile data when they are connecting to remote sites. What needs improvement? The Juniper SRX product needs to improve in terms of innovation. E.g., Checkpoint comes with a monitoring solution embedded in its product, as well as providing good reports. Checkpoint also does analysis by tracking the logs and letting you know when you are under attack. What Juniper has today in comparison is not so good. Juniper only has limited reports, such as memory, capacity, data, and traffic. For how long have I used the solution? Three to five years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? Since we have deployed the product, we have had two or three minor issues. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? We have something like 12 million customers (mobile data customers). How are customer service and technical support? Sometimes, it is difficult to contact the Juniper support because we did not purchase the support package, as it was too expensive. We are using a local reseller instead. Sometimes, when we have had issues, it can take one to three hours for resolution, which is not good at all based on our company standard. However, once we have the right thing connected on the device, then it's very fast. I would rate the technical support as a seven out of ten. The support is skilled, but the cost is expensive. If you previously used a different solution, which one did you use and why did you switch? We previously used Cisco ASA. The results were not good. How was the initial setup? The initial setup is straightforward. We had the help of the local provider. So, it was very straightforward. Even now, when I compare the initial setup to Cisco, the implementation of Juniper SRX is very simple. What about the implementation team? To finish the implementation, we had the help of the local provider, Ericsson. From the design phase up to the implementation phase, it took more than one month per site. The time to validate the design documents and change, then doing those changes, approve those changes and implementing them. Because we have two sites, it was somewhere around three months. After the acquisition phase, we discussed the plan and the design document. We did the architecture and design document with the vendor. Before going into the implementation phase, we have to validate all our documents for the high-level and low-level designs. The operational teams are also validating these documents. Once we have all those documents validated, we request the approval for change. We have a committee who analyzes the documentation. We analyze the work that we are planning to do and validate the changes for a specific time. We need to look if there any impact on the customer side, do we need to present it to the customer before making the change, and what is the plan for monitoring after the change? What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? The direct support with Juniper is expensive. When you stop using the solution and miss one year of payments, if you want the support back on a specific node, they ask you to pay for the year that you haven't used the node. Which other solutions did I evaluate? We tried to move our mobile data firewall from Juniper SRX to Cisco ASA. What we found was that Cisco did not performing well at all. We were very disappointed by the Cisco solution. With the Cisco solution, we had more memory issues with the same amount of traffic. With Juniper SRX, it just needs an upgrade to carry the traffic. We have approved vendors in every industry. We cannot deviate and chose any vendor that we want. We can only select vendors from our approved list. The two vendors on that list for this industry include Cisco and Juniper, though recently Huawei was added. What other advice do I have? Make sure to have skilled local support. We are planning to move to the bigger version of Juniper SRX later this year (SRX5800). We are also planning to move to IPv6. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple to implement and handles MBPN traffic well What is our primary use case? Our primary use case is for MPBN, where we provide a firewall for our mobile data customers. As an ISP, we protect the 2G, 3G, and 4G customers. What is most valuable? The most valuable feature is the virtualization because it can be used for customers who are using the mobile data network to request a private connection to a remote site. There are also standard security features such as NTP groups and firewalling features and these are also good. What needs improvement? The Juniper product has to improve in terms of innovation. It only has standard reports, such as memory capacity and data traffic. By comparison, the Check Point solution comes with great reports. Check Point tracks the logs, then analyses the logs and can tell you when you are under attack. Then, you can prevent it. With Juniper today, what you have in terms of log analysis is not so good. I think that they have another solution for this, but it is not embedded, and you have to purchase it separately. For how long have I used the solution? Approximately four years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? Since we have deployed, there have been maybe two or three minor issues. Our local support helped us to clear these. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? I cannot really tell if it is scalable because we are managing twenty gigabytes of traffic on the node. They say that it can scale up to almost one terabyte, but we don't have the capacity so I can't really tell. This solution is used for all of our mobile customers, which is approximately twelve million. All of our 4G customers use it. This includes standard users who want internet access on their phone, as well as those who want a VPN connected to a private server. How are customer service and technical support? I would rate their support seven out of ten. The technical support directly from Juniper is too expensive, so we receive support from our local reseller instead. This can take between one and three hours, which at times is not up to our company standards. While the Juniper support staff is skilled, is it too expensive, which is why I rate it seven. If you previously used a different solution, which one did you use and why did you switch? At one point we tried to move the mobile data firewall from our Juniper SRX56 to the Cisco ASA 5585. What we found out is that Cisco was not performing well at all. I was very disappointed by the Cisco solution. There were more issues for the same amount of traffic. With Juniper, you just have to upgrade to handle additional clients, but when we tried with Cisco, definitely the result was not good at all. How was the initial setup? The initial setup was straightforward, especially compared to that of Cisco. It was very simple with the help of our local provider. From the design phase up to the implementation stage took approximately one month per site. This included the time to validate the design documents and then validate and approve the changes. We needed to slot a window of time for the change, consider whether there is any impact on the customer, and then monitor what happens during the change. For both of our sites, it took approximately three months. For the design and clarification, we had one person for four nodes. In terms of operations, we have two engineers. What about the implementation team? Our local provider assisted us with the implementation of the final solution. In Cameroon, we had Erikson, and they knew what they had to do so it was really straightforward. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? While the price of support is expensive, the price of the solution, itself, is not. The problem came about when we tried switching to Cisco and discontinued our support. In order to subscribe again later, we had to pay a reinstatement fee. We found out that if you have not used the product for a certain period of time, you have to pay for this period before paying for a new year of support. Say, for example, that you don't pay for support for one year. That year must be paid for, first, before getting support. That is why I am saying that support is expensive, in my opinion. Which other solutions did I evaluate? We did not evaluate vendors other than Juniper and Cisco because in the enterprise we have a set of approved vendors for each sector and these are two only two in this group. What other advice do I have? My advice is to make sure that you have local support because it is very important. Juniper does have some good options in terms of support. This is not a perfect solution because I think that there is still room for improvement, but I think it is the best solution that I have tested for MBPN. I would rate this solution an eight and a half out of ten. Disclaimer: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Provides good routing and high performance of the data center What is our primary use case? One solution is data center Firewall and also we use this solution for protection our service GI + Triple Play How has it helped my organization? It provides good routing and high performance of the data center. It solves protecting our datacenter, separate networks and protect data center with FW policies + DPI What is most valuable? The routing feature is most valuable, because SRX is the best enterprise router. SRX has complete MPLS service features with L3VPN, VPLS, EVPN. You can also combine Router and FW in one box, with selective packet filter to bypass flow engine and set traffic to packet mode. What needs improvement? Web management needs to improve. The web interface on Juniper SRX is just a short conversion from Junos OS CLI; this is not very suitable for users with little expertise. But Juniper has complete MGMT for managing SRX devices and other Juniper devices. it' s called Junos Space with APP security director for security devices. It's good, but there is space for improvment. What do I think about the stability of the solution? There were some stability issues. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? There are not many scalability issues experienced. How is customer service and technical support? I would give the technical support an eight out of 10 rating. Which solutions did we use previously? Previously, we were using the old Juniper ScreenOS, we switched due to end-of-support. I have also expertise with Cisco ASA, Cisco Firepower, Checkpoint R80.10, Dell Sonicwall, Fortinet. How was the initial setup? The setup was very complex, e.g., if you are beginner. What about the implementation team? We implement is by our self with team in-house. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? The prices are very good as compared to other vendors. Which other solutions did I evaluate? We looked at Cisco ( https://www.itcentralstation.com/vendors/cisco ), FortiGate ( https://www.itcentralstation.com/products/fortinet-fortigate ), Palo Alto What other advice do I have? It is a very good router with firewall. Disclaimer: My company has a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer:We are partners.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lowered our operating costs by 25% over three years, mostly recovered from maintenance/support costs What is our primary use case? During our last network refresh, we did a wholesale forklift upgrade from Cisco to an entire Juniper network infrastructure, including Juniper SRX router/firewall/IDP, EX Series switches, and QFX Series core switches. The entire process took over two years to complete, but once it was completed, we were extremely happy with the Juniper equipment in terms of costs, performance, maintenance, and the ability to function as we needed. How has it helped my organization? * Once our engineers got their heads wrapped around the nuances of Juniper's CLI (took them about six months) with training (mostly free) and were able to get settled into Junos OS, we never looked back. * SRX firewalls/IDP functions require similar technical knowledge level as Cisco ASA and are function on par with them. I recommend investing in Juniper Space if you have a significant amount of Juniper equipment to manage. We have three of the larger SRX550s, with one cluster configuration, for edge security devices (firewall/IDPs). We are very happy with them. * Not specifically in SRX category, but the 40Gb/10Gb interfaces in the QFX gear are truly wired for speed on all available ports. The virtual EX switch chassis configuration, where up to 10 switching devices can be managed as a single network device, is a solid configuration for us. We use it in three locations and have zero issues with it. What is most valuable? * I am really hesitate to repeat the Juniper sales line of "One Juniper", simply because within different devices, there are differences in the CLI commands used. This has been due to functional and hardware differences. For the vast majority of the Juniper CLI commands, if you learn them for the SRX, they are the same for the EX and QFX series switches. There is little to no differences between the Junos OS versions * The "candidate configuration" and rollback features are real life savers. They are different from what Cisco does. At a Cisco CLI, when you hit enter, the command is live. Using a Juniper CLI, you configure a "candidate configuration", then "commit" it to bring it live. If you do not like it or messed up something, you just "rollback" to the previous configuration. It can all be done in a matter of minutes. This is super handy once you get use to it. * Juniper has the "recovery safety feature", so if you perform a "commit confirmed" and the new configuration disconnects you. then there is no "confirmed" command with X mins (default = 10 mins). It automatically reverts (recovers) to the previous configuration. This is handy for when you do not want to make that trip down range just to reboot a router. What needs improvement? Third-party support for Juniper is a lot less than Cisco. This is no surprise, but a definite consideration if you are expecting to use a lot of third party support. In my guesstimate, for every 100 Cisco shops, you will find one Juniper shop. For how long have I used the solution? Three to five years. How is customer service and technical support? JTAC (Juniper Networks Technical Assistance Center) is just okay for technical assistance. However, if you are used to Cisco TAC responsiveness, you will need to adjust your expectations with Juniper Networks TAC. I could normally fix my issue with Cisco on the first or second call, speaking with the first Cisco TAC engineer (Tier 1) that I spoke with. Juniper Networks TAC is just as good, but in my experience, it takes about two to three times longer to get the same results. It is not unusual to require escalation before the issue is resolved. Juniper simply does not have the depth and number of Juniper experts as Cisco. What was our ROI? We were able to lower our overall operating costs over a three year period by 25%, mostly recovered from maintenance/support costs. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good security features but is lacking a web filter What is most valuable? I've found the security features, such as IDS and the VPN most valuable. What needs improvement? In terms of other features, I'd like to see a web filter, 10 point control, application control and DNA features in the next release. For how long have I used the solution? I've been using the solution for 5 years. If you previously used a different solution, which one did you use and why did you switch? We previously didn't use a different solution. Rated 5 out of 5 by from It is a good solution for firewall protection. It needs to be updated for "Next-Generation" needs. What is our primary use case? It is a basic firewall ( https://www.itcentralstation.com/categories/firewalls ) that we have been using for six years. It is a good solution. What is most valuable? The most valuable feature is the brand itself. From a protection perspective, it provides a network perimeter security function for our company. What needs improvement? We are finding that the UTM features which is required (like an antivirus or URL filtering) are not available. We are now looking for the "Next Generation" of firewall ( https://www.itcentralstation.com/categories/firewalls ) protection. We need to be less vulnerable to attacks. In addition, we would really like to see an automated policy feature added. For how long have I used the solution? More than five years. Rated 5 out of 5 by from One valuable feature is the reliability of the Junos OS. There is not a global database of objects. What is most valuable? One valuable feature is the reliability of the Junos OS. However, we did not make full use of the UTM functionality. How has it helped my organization? We have experienced more dependability. What needs improvement? Management: Junos Space Security Director is not great and there is no global database of objects. For how long have I used the solution? We have been using the product for about six years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? We did not encounter any issues with stability. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? The clustering of a maximum of two nodes limited some architectural options. How is customer service and technical support? Support is what the end customer buys. Unfortunately, it's not always from Juniper. Which solutions did we use previously? We migrated from Juniper Screen OS to Junos. We are leaving Juniper now as their focus on security seems to have dropped. How was the initial setup? The setup was no more difficult than switching to any other firewall implementation. What other advice do I have? Be wary of Juniper's stake in the security realm. If they are ramping up again and are again competing with Check Point, Palo Alto, and FortiGate, then they are worthy of consideration. It is also worth your consideration if your network is Juniper based and you have a secondary firewall vendor. Rated 5 out of 5 by from They should add a dashboard because the product is difficult to operate. It is not that expensive. What is our primary use case? The Juniper SRX that we have is being used as a firewall. Somehow, it is performing. The product is a normal router with basic firewall capacity. We don't have a dedicated firewall. Therefore, I don't have high expectations from Juniper. How has it helped my organization? It helps us perform our daily jobs. What is most valuable? We are using it as a normal type of firewall. What needs improvement? I would like them to add a dashboard because it's difficult to operate. The product only has basic features. For how long have I used the solution? Less than one year. What do I think about the stability of the solution? The stability is normal. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? The scalability is normal. How are customer service and technical support? I haven't used technical support, just local support. How was the initial setup? The initial setup was complex. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? It is not that expensive. Which other solutions did I evaluate? We are evaluating Palo Alto, Barracuda, and Sophos because we need a Next-Gen firewall. What other advice do I have? It crashed, and we could not change it for some reason. I don't want to keep Juniper within my network anymore. Most important criteria when selecting a vendor: * Dedicated support team * Easy configuration. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Having this design has greatly simplified the network and improved operational efficiency of support staffs What is most valuable? Valuable features for us include: * Routing: When firewalls can also perform full routing functionality, it helps to save cost on dedicated routing hardware. * High Availability (clustering): This is important to ensure service availability in the event of a node failure. These firewalls in HA mode consist of a primary and backup node, and provide redundancy such that if one of the nodes fails, the other node will take over. * Deep packet inspection (DPI) capabilities: Juniper SRX firewalls inspect packets as they traverse the firewalls and it goes beyond the traditional five tuples (source IP, destination IP, protocol, source port, and destination port) packet inspection by using the App-ID engine to inspect the protocol to correctly identify applications. It further rate-limits traffic, using the AppQoS features, based on specific types of applications. * IPSec VPN: This is crucial because it provides secure site to site connectivity between the DC and remote locations. Traffic traversing the secure link is protected from the prying eyes of unauthorized intruders or the man-in-the-middle. These features are valuable because they allow smooth operation of the business from a technology standpoint. Again, this is relative. How has it helped my organization? There was a business need to provide service high availability and system redundancy in addition to routing and firewalling at the internet edge and the datacenter core. Having this design has greatly simplified the network and improved operational efficiency of support staffs. What needs improvement? The GUI needs improving. For how long have I used the solution? We have been using the solution for seven years, providing design, implementation, support, and optimization. What do I think about the stability of the solution? We had a stability issue. Just like any other vendor, there are code stability issues on some of the platforms. However, there is always a recommended code version for each platform. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? We did not encounter issues with scalability, but this depends on the environment. The DC class firewalls can scale vertically or horizontally. How is customer service and technical support? They provide an awesome technical support. Which solutions did we use previously? We used Cisco ( https://www.itcentralstation.com/vendors/cisco ) and CheckPoint ( https://www.itcentralstation.com/vendors/check-point ). Routing functionality and advanced security services were limited. How was the initial setup? The setup was straightforward and simple once you understand the building blocks of Junos and firewalls. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? Pricing and licensing are very reasonable. Which other solutions did I evaluate? We evaluated Palo Alto ( https://www.itcentralstation.com/vendors/palo-alto-networks ) and Fortinet ( https://www.itcentralstation.com/vendors/fortinet ). What other advice do I have? This product will offer maximum performance and capacity. It is extremely reliable depending on the business need. It supports full routing functionality and advanced security services like Application Security, Unified Threat Management (UTM), IPS, and threat intelligence. Advanced security services require a license. Disclaimer: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent high-speed interfaces but throughput when using features can be improved What is our primary use case? We primarily use this solution for data center segregation. What is most valuable? The features that are most valuable are the high-speed interfaces and MPLS. What needs improvement? The throughput when using features can be improved. 100-gigabit interfaces should be added into the next release because we'd like to adopt them. For how long have I used the solution? I've been using the solution for approximately 6 years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? The solution's stability is very good. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? The scalability of the solution is limited. If you previously used a different solution, which one did you use and why did you switch? We did use a different solution. The old boxes were at end of life. How was the initial setup? The initial setup was complex because we have a complex network. What other advice do I have? I find that the interfaces are okay. The big thing is performance. With all the features turned on it slows down. The advice I would give to everyone is to specify a larger box than you think you need. Due to the performance indications, I'd rate this product as a 7 out of 10. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Improves our operational performance and stability; there are no outages How has it helped my organization? The greatest improvement we have seen is in operational performance and operational stability. There are no outages. What is most valuable? * It's a reliable firewall and very stable, for both the hardware and applications it is stable. * It's very powerful. * It's also a very secure device, it has good attack prevention capabilities using UTM. * It's user-friendly with a good UI. * It has powerful CLI. What needs improvement? It's not 100%, it's not a perfect product, some points need to be adjusted, need to be enhanced. For how long have I used the solution? More than five years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? There have been no issues with this product. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? It's a very scalable product. How is customer service and technical support? I think they have professional support. Support is really good, they are professional engineers. Customer support is very good. Which solutions did we use previously? I used Cisco, and Palo Alto, and used McAfee. As a consultant, a systems integrator, if customers go to SRX it's because of its features and the stability of the product. It's the most stable product. How was the initial setup? It was very straightforward, very clear. Which other solutions did I evaluate? Other than Palo Alto, StrongSoft is very stable. Cisco Firepower is very unstable. What other advice do I have? I can say for, that for a datacenter, and for price, first I appreciate Palo Alto and then I appreciate Juniper, more than the others. Support for Juniper is best, better than Palo Alto, but Palo Alto is more powerful. And there is a big difference in pricing. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Zones make it easy to logically organize security polices How has it helped my organization? Thanks to the well-structured and organized security policies, we decreased operations time to create/update/delete our security policies. What is most valuable? Security policies in combination with zones: It is very easy to organize the security polices in a logical structure. CLI: Junos CLI is very easy to use, and it is also very easy to find back items in the configuration and to change them. Commit: You can update the whole configuration without affecting the production. The new configuration will be loaded once the command "Commit" is submitted. You can also do a Commit confirmed to automatically roll back to the previous config after X minutes. What needs improvement? The visibility/reporting could be better. To see something, you have to export the log to a syslog and then process with another product. For how long have I used the solution? More than five years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? We have used it for years without any stability issues. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? We haven't encountered scalability issues. How is customer service and technical support? Technical support is pretty good. I would rate it eight out of 10. Which solutions did we use previously? I previously used a Netscreen ISG1000 firewall. I switched because the ISG was end-of-life and Netscreen was bought by Juniper. How was the initial setup? Initial setup was complex because Junos is totally different than ScreenOS. But with some introductory courses and some googling it becomes much easier. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? I’m just the tech, I didn’t take part in the price negotiation. I would say about $20,000 for a SRX650 with IDP licence. Which other solutions did I evaluate? No, we didn't evaluate other options. This was a natural way for us to migrate from ISG to SRX. What other advice do I have? Be sure you know what you are looking for. The SRX650 is a perfect product for a small datacenter, not for a branch office where you need lots of visibility. Implement your structure (zones) first, on paper, before starting to configure it. Disclaimer: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from We use the Layer 4 firewall functions: Access rules, NAT, and site-to-site IPsec VPN How has it helped my organization? Theere has been no change to our organization. We replaced an older Cisco ASA. We intended to use some of the UTM features, but we have not yet. In some cases, it is worse. We can’t do remote access IPsec VPNs for users like we could with the Cisco ASA. Instead, we set up OpenVPN. As the Cisco ASA is the de facto standard, doing a site-to-site IPsec VPN to other companies takes more time (e.g., IKEv2 will not work connecting to Cisco gear because traffic selectors are not supported for IKEv2). What is most valuable? We mostly use the Layer 4 firewall ( https://www.itcentralstation.com/categories/firewalls ) functions: Access rules, NAT, and site-to-site IPsec VPN. We liked that it had additional features and was more modern than the Cisco ASA line. What needs improvement? It needs better interoperability with Cisco gear. For how long have I used the solution? One to three years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? No stability issues. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? No issue. We are only a 40 person company and only have 50Mbps of internet bandwidth. How is customer service and technical support? Technical support is good, though we have not really used support much. Juniper has a decent knowledgebase. Which solutions did we use previously? Previously, we had a Cisco ASA 5510. It was old and needed to be replaced. We switched because the Cisco ASA is underpowered. If you try to do too many functions, like IDS/IPS, UTM, virus scanning, and Smart Net, support is expensive. How was the initial setup? The initial setup is mostly straightforward. We are converting one of our site-to-site VPNs with another company where we have overlapping subnets. This took some doing because the Cisco ASA allowed us to do policy-based NAT and could NAT the same IP subnet two different ways depending on the destination address. We needed to exclude 10 IP addresses out of a 24 subnet from the static NAT rule which was needed to deal with the overlapping subnets and ended up having to do more than 240 individual 32 NAT rules on the Juniper SRX240H2. What about the implementation team? Work with a consultant who has good JunOS knowledge if you have a complex setup (we host more than 20 servers for internet access used by over a 1000 users). What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? Pricing is good. Most of the costs are in the UTM (IDS/IPS, virus scanning, etc.) subscription. Palo Alto was nice, but much more expensive. Which other solutions did I evaluate? We looked at Juniper SRX vs FortiGate ( https://www.itcentralstation.com/products/comparisons/fortinet-fortigate_vs_juniper-srx ) and Juniper SRX vs Palo Alto ( https://www.itcentralstation.com/products/comparisons/juniper-srx_vs_palo-alto-networks-wildfire ), as well as the newer Cisco ASAs ( https://www.itcentralstation.com/products/cisco-asa-reviews ). Rated 5 out of 5 by from It protects from distributed denial-of-service attacks with Screen Options What is our primary use case? The primary use case is for protecting enterprise systems. How has it helped my organization? It allows users connecting from homes, who urgently need to log into the networks through a secure tunnel without using internet IP gateway, access using a SSL. What is most valuable? * It is highly scalable, stable, and can be easily updated. * It protects from distributed denial-of-service attacks, DDoS attacks, with Screen Options. * When you design your networks, you can put SSL Inspection as a gateway to make the systems secured, like IT systems. What needs improvement? The GUI needs to be easier and more helpful for users who don't have security experience. They need to add WAF management to the tool, as competitors already have it as part of their offerings. This feature is future of protecting enterprise solutions. For how long have I used the solution? More than five years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? It is very stable, but it needs an engineer on the system while it is running to monitor for attacks and when attacks are in process. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? It is easy to expand. How are customer service and technical support? The technical support is good, but there is a time delay between the support and attacks. How was the initial setup? The initial setup was straightforward, but has since become straightforward with experience. For example, with MX (not SRX), it needs to be specific when you export or import the subnetting or addresses that you want to block or filter out of your networks. This is why it is a complex process the first time and becomes subsequently easier What other advice do I have? You have to be aware of Linux commands, which will make you able to use this device, like exporting file, saving file, monitoring your logs, and making a new script. Rated 5 out of 5 by from User friendly with pretty good GUI and easy troubleshooting capabilities What is most valuable? The GUI of the solution is quite good. It's also very different from other solutions. On others, if you need to configure anything, you can do it all from the default gateway. Cisco, for example, has a bit of a more difficult process. Juniper's GUI is easier and it makes configuration easier. Troubleshooting with the solution is quite easy. If you compare the process to, for example, Fortigate, Juniper is much easier. The speed of the solution is very good. The initial setup is very easy. What needs improvement? While the GUI is pretty good on the Juniper side, there can still be tweaks made to it that will make it even better. For how long have I used the solution? I've been using the solution for two years or so. What do I think about the stability of the solution? The stability has been good so far. We haven't had issues with bugs or glitches. It's not a solution that crashes a lot of freezes up. We find it very reliable. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? The scalability potential depends on the customer. Some customers are working only on the edge with smaller systems and the other environment is connected to Cisco switches. Some clients mix up switches and use HP or Cisco. Some like ASA, however, that's more expensive. Many go with SRX as an affordable option. How are customer service and technical support? I have reached out to Juniper tech support a couple of times. I recall the experience being good. I got the answers I needed. I've used technical support from Sophos and Cisco in the past, and in comparison, I find Juniper to be quite good. I'd say we are satisfied with the level of support provided. Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch? I've used Cisco and Fortigate solutions, among others, in the past as well. I find Juniper easier to use from a GUI aspect. Cisco is better from a CLI perspective. How was the initial setup? We did not find the initial setup to be complex. The implementation was straightforward and simple. It didn't really give us any trouble. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? The pricing of the product is pretty good. It's less than Cisco, which can be expensive for some organizations. What other advice do I have? Our client is a medium, small branch company. When they purchased this firewall, they understood that they could use it for a couple of years. I have a client that works with Juniper 4200 and 4300 and they find the solution to be very user-friendly. Overall, I would recommend the solution as it is easy to use and has a pretty good GUI. Customers really seem to like it. In general, on a scale from one to ten, I would rate it at an eight. Disclaimer: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Customizable policy control, supports EEE routing, and the technical support is impressive What is our primary use case? We use Juniper for EEE routing and we also use the gateway feature. What is most valuable? The most valuable features are routing and policy security. The EEE security controls allow us to make policy restrictions, so I can customize port numbers to allow or limit control. The Juniper SRX protects against DDoS attacks. What needs improvement? When we first tested the serial interface on our model, it did not work. It should be easier to escalate support tickets. For how long have I used the solution? We have been working with Juniper SRX for eight or nine years. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? We sized this solution based on our bandwidth, so scalability has not been a problem. How are customer service and technical support? The support that we receive from the partner is good. They are available if you are looking for a replacement or an upgrade, and they worked with me when it came to sizing the router according to our bandwidth. They were also able to find a workaround to the problem that we were having with the serial interface not working on our SRX550-M. The only issue with technical support is that it depends on the escalation. Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch? We also have a small number of Cisco routers but we rely primarily on Juniper. The Cisco products are more expensive. How was the initial setup? The initial setup is straightforward. What other advice do I have? Overall, this is a really good product. I would rate this solution an eight out of ten. Which deployment model are you using for this solution? Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good performance and stability, and more competitively priced that others What is our primary use case? We are a distributor and Juniper SRX is one of the products that we work with. The SRX is a service gateway device that serves two main functions. The primary function is as a firewall, and the second is for routing traffic. It can serve as a branch firewall or data center firewall, as well as a next-generation firewall, based on the license. What is most valuable? Juniper SRX has many good features that suit a variety of customer requirements. Performance is a strong point. What needs improvement? There are a lot of features that customers do not know about and I think that better documentation would help when it comes to learning how to use the product. Technical support could be improved by adding local engineers. For how long have I used the solution? I have been working with this product for a few months. What do I think about the stability of the solution? The Juniper SRX is very stable. Stability and performance are the strengths of Juniper products. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? We have clients of all sizes for this product, from small businesses to service providers. It is very scalable. How are customer service and technical support? I would rate the technical support at medium. The support is good, but other vendors have local engineers. This is something that could be improved. How was the initial setup? The initial setup is straightforward and very easy. The length of time for deployment depends on the size of the solution. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? Compared to other vendors, the pricing of this solution is good. What other advice do I have? This is a product that I very much recommend. I would rate this solution an eight out of ten. Which deployment model are you using for this solution? Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cost-effective and the support is good, but the range of models should be expanded What is our primary use case? We are a financial institution and we use Juniper SRX routers to support our credit team, as well as our branch network. I am part of the IT department. How has it helped my organization? The Juniper router has a firewall built-in, which is a nice security enhancement for our organization. It adds a bit more value. What is most valuable? The support is very good. What needs improvement? The range of devices should be expanded to include those suitable for a small implementation. Juniper does not have any lower-priced SRX models, useful perhaps for a single ATM or a single bank branch. Having such a model at a reasonable price would be good. In the time that we have used Juniper, we have not seen them improve their product line. If you look at Cisco, they have all kinds of network products. They have routers, switches, and firewalls. But with Juniper, they are not coming up with different kinds of products. They should be including more firewalls and other products. This is an area that Juniper should improve in general. In Bangladesh, there is a very limited number of partners. The problem with this is that there is a monopoly, and I think that they should end this by increasing the number of local partners. For how long have I used the solution? We have been working with Juniper SRX routers for more than five years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? Juniper SRX is a stable product. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? This is a scalable router. In our organization, there are almost 3,000 people using the Juniper product. They have varied roles. We plan to increase our use of Juniper products in the future, although it depends on input from management. How are customer service and support? The technical support is quite good. Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch? Currently, I am also using a Cisco product. The split between Cisco and Juniper devices is approximately 50/50. Compared to Cisco, the price for Juniper SRX routers is very reasonable. The reason that we are switching to Juniper is because of the cost. How was the initial setup? The initial setup is easy. As we have been using this product for quite a long time, we are used to it and our resources have become very skilled with Juniper devices. The deployment does not take very long. What about the implementation team? Our in-house network team is responsible for deployment. There are six people in our network team. They are network administrators. What was our ROI? Juniper products provide a good return on investment. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? This is a cost-effective solution because the price is very reasonable, and some of the features are available at no extra cost. That's the beauty of Juniper. We have a perpetual license, which comes with the device. Once we purchase it, we can continue the service for three years. When the three-year warranty expires, we have to sign a new agreement with the OEM. Which other solutions did I evaluate? We are looking to gain some experience in using Mikrotik routers and switches. What other advice do I have? My advice for anybody who is implementing Juniper is to enroll in the training that they have available. Train first, then deploy. That will make it much easier. Overall, I think that this is quite a good product. However, they need to expand their range of device offerings. I would rate Juniper SRX a seven out of ten. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Straightforward installation, easy to use user interface, but could be more stable What is our primary use case? We use Juniper SRX for branch offices or for small office use. What is most valuable? The GUI is simple to use. For how long have I used the solution? I have been using Juniper SRX for approximately 20 years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? Juniper SRX is stable, but it could improve. FortiGate has better stability than Juniper SRX. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? Juniper SRX could improve the scalability to compete better with other solutions, such as FortiGate. We have less than 10% of our customers using Juniper SRX. Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch? We use FortiGate solutions and we have been deploying them more than Juniper SRX because of the benefits. How was the initial setup? The installation is straightforward. The time of the deployment depends on the complexity of the environment. If the customer requires HA deployment and the configuration could take longer time. On average, for a small-scale branch office, it can be completed within one day, which includes testing. If the customer does not have any special preference on the policy and they do not have any IP tunnels then it could be completed within half a day. What about the implementation team? We have an in-house team of 10 engineers that do the implementation and maintenance of the solutions we provide. What other advice do I have? I rate Juniper SRX a seven out of ten. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to maintain, easy to extract the logs, and very stable What is our primary use case? We're using it as a primary firewall and UTM for the main lines coming into our offices and also for connecting our sub-offices around the world. How has it helped my organization? Previously, we had different routers for each of the incoming lines to the office, and we had other firewalls on the backend to manage them. Now, we have changed all of these, and we have all the lines coming into one single solution, which is SRX. We manage everything very easily from one single interface. Previously, we used to have 10 different devices to do that. Now, we have only one. What is most valuable? We like the fact that we can easily combine multiple internet links to the office and use them like one link. It is very fast and very easy to maintain. Another nice part of it is that you can easily extract the logs and move them over to a security operations center. What needs improvement? Its logging is very good, but we would like to have an easier way of creating more reports. We would like to be able to manipulate the reports or manage the way the reports are coming out. In terms of new features, we are using almost all of the features that it has, and there is nothing specific that it is lacking. For how long have I used the solution? I have been using this solution for four years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? It is very stable. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? It is scalable. We haven't used the scalability up till now, but we know that we can extend it. We have 150 users here, and then we have around 30 to 40 users in different countries such as Singapore, Hong Kong, and Norway. They're using some parts of it. They are using some smaller units to connect to the main office. We don't have any plans to increase its usage as of now. Any expansion would be in terms of getting new offices around the world. We may install more of those smaller ones, but for the time being, as far as I know, we will not expand it in the office because it is already performing as it should. It actually did a very good job when we were working remotely because it allows us to connect to the office very easily and work remotely. How are customer service and support? They have been pretty good. In some cases, they took a little bit of time to give a response for the cases we were facing. However, in most of the cases, they were very fast in responding and providing full resolution to the cases we faced. Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch? We had different routers for each of the incoming lines to the office, and we had other firewalls on the backend to manage them. We switched because it was too difficult to manage multiple solutions for each of those lines. We wanted to have one single place where we could manage everything. We also didn't want to have some people going out from one internet line and some from another internet line. We wanted to combine all those lines together and make them work as one, and that's what we achieved with SRX. How was the initial setup? We were not so much involved in the setup because we had a security company to do that for us. It took us about two months. What about the implementation team? We had a security company for its implementation. Our experience with them was very good. For its maintenance, we have our IT department. There are three people for managing the maintenance of it. Which other solutions did I evaluate? We evaluated many other options. We checked out Palo Alto, Fortinet, and Check Point. What other advice do I have? I would advise others to do good planning in the beginning because that helps a lot in having a very little downtime. It took us two months to implement it, which might seem very long, but we had zero downtime. Nobody noticed anything during the switch. It was the best way to implement it. This is the most important part. When you are trying to do such changes in the organization, it is very important that you do it by using the right resources and from the right perspective. I would rate Juniper SRX a 10 out of 10. Which deployment model are you using for this solution? On-premises Disclaimer: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's helpful for routing and LAN segmentation, but it's not as easy to manage as some solutions What is our primary use case? We use Juniper SRX to do LAN routing. FortiGate uses it for public SMS, and we're using Juniper for internal LAN segmentation. We're routing between different international sites in Morocco, France, and Tunisia. What is most valuable? We're primarily using Juniper's EPA feature, but not the other things. We use it to manage different points of firewalling of routing. What needs improvement? Junos Space should be improved to be on par with FortiGate's solution for managing firewalls and routing. For how long have I used the solution? We've been using Juniper SRX for 10 years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? Juniper SRX is stable. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? Juniper SRX lacks scalability. Juniper uses a switch car with different switches. We have some difficulties managing this kind of equipment and implementing some features, like Mac lock and Mac limiting solutions. It's difficult to get good support about this from Juniper. We have about 10,000 users across all routers and switches. I can say the same for FortiGate. We're currently using it extensively for all traffic, and we plan to expand usage. How are customer service and support? Juniper support is okay, but maybe they could improve their support for the gates or when the gates are returned. It takes a lot of time to get a return about the subgate. Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch? It's easier to deploy FortiGate, so maybe we will replace some of our Juniper firewalls with FortiGate in the future. We would still use Juniper for routers and switches but use FortiGate for firewalls. It's easier to manage EDA TPS on FortiGate, so maybe we will replace Juniper if they can't provide us with a good solution for this in the future. Maybe in a few months, we will replace some Juniper appliances with FortiGate in some projects. How was the initial setup? Setting up Juniper SRX is a little difficult. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? Juniper is annually licensed. There are some additional costs for APS. What other advice do I have? I rate Juniper SRX seven out of 10. Which deployment model are you using for this solution? On-premises Disclaimer: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easily scalable with many available tools What is our primary use case? We use the virtual on-premises in our data centers. What is most valuable? The reason that we picked Juniper SRX is for the scalability, the fit for purpose, the tools that are available, the ongoing support, and the ability to monitor, but particularly for the virtual routers in our data centers so that we can quickly upscale them when needed, when we need more throughput. For how long have I used the solution? In the last year, we've started to roll out Juniper SRX for new sites. It has only been a couple, but we'll have about 10 to 15 sites within the next month in the new framework, and we'll also be putting a virtual SRX router at our gateway in our data centers as well. We are using the latest version. It's not finalized to install yet. I expect it to be finalized next week in our city and Melbourne data centers. What do I think about the stability of the solution? So far they've been good in terms of stability. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? The scalability has been very good so far. We've got 420 staff using it, plus two of my internal team and two of my MSPs, four people, working on the network stuff. How are customer service and technical support? We have been in touch with support and they've been good. During the configuration stages, we had a couple of tickets and they were responsive to it. How was the initial setup? The first configuration with my network experts took a little bit of time to work through the differences between their knowledge of the Huawei networking and the Juniper set-up and the change from all the Huawei to the Juniper and Sophos access points. The first install took a couple of weeks to configure the actual hardware, and then on site, what we expected to take half a day in the first instance probably took a week, but once we did one, we've been ok rolling out the next ones after that. In terms of the initial setup being straightforward, that depends on your knowledge of the product. Juniper has been fairly responsive when my team has asked them questions. So it has taken us longer to install than I would've hoped, but that's one of those things when you change your products. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? There is a component of monthly and yearly costs depending on the product. Ongoing costs are something that we need to manage and make sure that we're getting value on. But with feeding the data back in and the capability, we're hoping that it will pay for itself in the monitoring tools and the ability to go past just the different baselines of stability and scalability to actually make sure that we're proactive in keeping our networks alive. What other advice do I have? On a scale of one to ten, I would give Juniper SRX an eight. The main thing is cost. Having said that, it's not ridiculous, but you're always looking for the best value, and them bringing out the virtual cores has been really good. The cost is more expensive, but you're getting a bang for your buck. They are very good value for money in their product. The overall, ongoing costs of licensing has added to my budget, but until I get long-term experience and make sure that it's running as expected, I can't say it's everything that I expected. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Reliable and certified for many security applications What is our primary use case? We primarily use Juniper SRX for two functions: site-to-site VPN and VPN for Easy Connect. The VPN provides security for remote work. We also use it for a firewall. What is most valuable? One of Juniper SRX's most valuable features is the site-to-site VPN. What needs improvement? I would like to have a better web UI for administration. Juniper could simplify the web UI and make it more compatible with mobile devices. In particular, I'm thinking about our remote offices, where we don't have dedicated IT personnel. Let's say someone from the office staff was working via smartphone. If the web UI were more compatible with mobile devices, the administration could manage IT support from a team that is not in their location. It would make it simpler for small companies to deploy these devices. I also think the documentation is lacking. For how long have I used the solution? I've been using Juniper SRX for seven years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? In terms of stability, I would rate SRX nine out of 10. For performance, we're usually satisfied, so about eight of 10. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? This model of SRX we use is not a scalable solution. It's near its maximum capacity for encryption, traffic, and features. How are customer service and support? Juniper support was great. When we reported a critical issue, they responded with recommended fixes within four hours. Regarding customer service, we prefer working with a company that lets us directly purchase their solutions worldwide using something like an internet store, so we don't have to go through partners or dealers. We currently deliver such solutions in many countries, and each country has its local vendor. Sometimes we can't rely on this delivery method because we haven't tried it yet in these countries, so it's not reliable to open new offices in foreign countries due to some restrictions, regulations, and price administration for networks. This is a problem. So it would be great if Juniper could deliver equipment that we purchase directly on some internet shop instead of using a local dealer or service center. How was the initial setup? Deploying SRX was straightforward because our environment was ready for it. We used our own IT team and deployment took about two weeks. It was a normal step-by-step process. As for maintenance, SRX usually requires software updates and nothing more. We've installed it in a suitable environment in the server room, so it doesn't require a lot of additional maintenance. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? I'm not sure we are satisfied fully with the pricetag of Juniper SRX, but we understand why the dealer prices it this way. Still, we are not satisfied when we try to get prices for competitor products. Sometimes, it can be tense like this. Which other solutions did I evaluate? When you consider performance, price, and features, maybe Juniper is not so cost-effective compared to other solutions like MikroTik. On the one hand, MikroTik might have better performance and much more features than Juniper. However, Juniper is more reliable and has different approval, certifications, and standard capability features. MikroTik does a lot of the same functions but doesn't have the same certifications. MikroTik is less expensive. The device price of MikroTik is $200 versus $6,000 with SRX. In the end, we chose SRX because it was on a list of solutions approved by our remote parties. One of our customers needed to have this type of VPN to work with our company. What other advice do I have? I rate Juniper SRX eight out of 10. I recommend it. There are two vendors — Juniper and Cisco— that we recommend for the production environment of any kind of build. Which deployment model are you using for this solution? Rated 5 out of 5 by from Has competitive pricing and is a part of Juniper's switching fabric, but can be improved to auto-negotiate more with existing hardware What is our primary use case? As a value-added reseller, we resell Juniper hardware to our clients. Its use cases are related to the standard network architecture. It is a part of the fabric that Juniper uses for their switching. What is most valuable? It is a part of the infrastructure when we're selling Juniper. That's what clients are familiar with and that's what they rely on. What needs improvement? It does have its nuances in terms of deployment. There are always areas to make something easier or more intuitive or make the system auto-negotiate more with existing hardware. For how long have I used the solution? I have been using this solution since it got launched. It has been around five years or so. What do I think about the stability of the solution? For the most part, it is no more difficult than anything else that's out there right now. How are customer service and support? Most of the feedback that I've got from my clients related to Juniper's support is that their support is okay. It is not spectacular. It is just okay. How was the initial setup? It is easy. It is pretty much plug-and-play. This is why people like Juniper. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? Its price is comparable to the competition. What other advice do I have? I would advise definitely taking some training if you're not really familiar with the interface or the GUI. Brush up on it before you dig into it because a lot of people know Aruba or Cisco, but you need to be familiar with it. Don't just buy it because you read some marketing material on it. You actually need to know how to deploy it. I would rate it a seven out of ten. Disclaimer: My company has a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer:Partner

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Powerful, with straightforward configuration, and stability What is our primary use case? We use Juniper SRX as a firewall mainly, for security and securing the network. How has it helped my organization? Juniper SRX is a very powerful firewall and sometimes can be used as a router. What needs improvement? I think Juniper SRX should have a GUI. Some of the competitors are already implementing GUI for the firewall. For how long have I used the solution? I have been working with Juniper SRX for sixteen years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? Juniper SRX is a stable solution. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? The scalability of Juniper SRX is acceptable. How are customer service and support? Technical support initially is not that fast, if the case requires escalation, the other levels of support are fast. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? The setup is a straightforward configuration, but the security customization may take time. What other advice do I have? I would rate Juniper SRX a nine out of ten. Which deployment model are you using for this solution? Rated 5 out of 5 by from An inexpensive and stable solution for mid-sized companies, but compared to Cisco, the solution is not innovative What is our primary use case? I am a teacher and the solution is used as a router for my students' laboratory exercises. I have the firewall function switched off and the solution operates as a main router for our very limited traffic. What is most valuable? The solution is stable, inexpensive, and works well for medium size companies. What needs improvement? The solution's configurations and syntax are specific and more complicated than other platforms. Compared to Cisco, the solution is not intuitive. For how long have I used the solution? I have been using the solution for two years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? The solution is stable. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? The solution is scalable and I rate it a ten out of ten. How are customer service and support? I have not used support services because I rely on experienced colleagues for answers. How was the initial setup? The solution is quite simple to set up if you spend a few hours learning the syntax. Based on experience level, it can be implemented in a few hours. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? The pricing is very inexpensive which is the main reason I bought the solution. One device costs around 50 EUR through the University's vendor who is modernizing our network. What other advice do I have? I rate this solution a seven out of ten. Which deployment model are you using for this solution? Rated 5 out of 5 by from Reasonably priced, reliable, flexible, and feature-rich What is our primary use case? We use Juniper SRX firewalls and site-to-site VPN connectivity. How has it helped my organization? Overall, in terms of uptime, they are very stable and reliable, which has benefited our organization. What is most valuable? The command line in Juniper SRX is extremely powerful, in my opinion. It's one of the best command lines I've used in networking products. What needs improvement? Both the web management and the graphical user interface are inadequate and should be improved. It's one of those situations. When it comes to Juniper, I would never use the GUI, instead, I would only use the command line. I would like to see an improved user interface, and some kind of SD-WAN solution included, or perhaps a simpler way of configuring redundant links, such as WAN links. For how long have I used the solution? I have been using Juniper SRX for 10 years. We're working with the SRX240 and 210 models. What do I think about the stability of the solution? Juniper SRX is a very stable solution. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? It should scale well, in my opinion. We are not a large company, but I don't anticipate any problems with Juniper SRX scalability. We have approximately 300 employees, whose roles are in typical sales, accounting, operations, and transportation. I'm not sure about increasing, but we do have other Juniper products, such as switches, that we would use. How are customer service and support? Based on my experience with technical support, I would rate them a four out of five. How would you rate customer service and support? Positive Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch? We have used other solutions. We decided to change to Juniper for something a little different. We have used some open-source firewalls in the past, and we wanted something a little more robust and fully supported in a real business class environment. How was the initial setup? Coming from other vendors, the initial learning curve was a little steep. However, I would say that the actual setup was not that difficult. I would rate the initial setup a three out of five. I would recommend two people with networking knowledge, particularly in Juniper SRX, are enough to have it managed and supported. One person could do it, but it helps to have a backup. What about the implementation team? It only took a few weeks for them to all be deployed. It was really just a matter of timing and having a window for each location to have a little downtime to make the transition. The deployment was completed in-house. What was our ROI? I would say that there has been a return on investment with Simply having the dependability, uptime, and additional security features. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? Juniper SRX is reasonably priced. Which other solutions did I evaluate? We evaluated other products before choosing Juniper. Other products had a more limited feature set, in my opinion. For some of the others, it was just the price. Juniper had a reasonable price and other reliable sources highly recommend it. What other advice do I have? I believe that knowing exactly what you want to do is beneficial. There's a lot. It's a very flexible platform, and there's usually more than one way to accomplish your goals. Planning ahead of time is definitely beneficial. If you don't have a lot of experience, I'd recommend working with a partner if at all possible. I would rate Juniper SRX an eight out of ten.
