Rated 5 out of 5 by from It didn’t work in my computer. Plugged it in, but DVD wouldn’t play. I work full time so it’s makes it difficult to call HP for technical help. I will try to call them this week to see if they can’t help me get the DVD player to work. Very frustrating!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It Seems to Work I have not used the drive very much yet. However, it seems to work a lot better than my laptop's internal DVD RW Drive (mostly because my HP laptop's internal hp DVDRAM GU90N DVD RW Drive seems to have quit working). Setting the external drive up was a little tricky because the drive didn't appear in my "This PC" at first. If I recall correctly, wiggling the (included) USB cable (on both ends) resolved the issue. I have used the external drive to listen to an audio CD, as well as play (and later install) a game that doesn't require using the CD-ROM disc (once it's installed on a computer) on my laptop. Although the external drive has done what I have wanted it to do so far, part of me wishes I had bought a replacement internal hp DVDRAM GU90N DVD RW Drive instead. The external drive requires a USB port and (at least for me) desk space. It's also a different color than my laptop, and does not have a security cable slot.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Poor Wireless Connectivity The unit's wireless connectivity is very poor, particularly the mouse that loses its connections to the USB receiver invariably and requires a reset (tuning the unit off and on or removing and reinserting the batteries. Keyboard also uses its connection at times but the mouse is a real problem. For a combination of keyboard and mouse at this high price point, it is a very disappointing products . I had the product replaced once under warranty but the problem persist.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from There are differences. Buy HP From everything I had read, all external drives are essentially the same and all are plug and play. So I bought a $25 cheap unit. It was not plug and play. Apparently its best year was the same year Windows 7 was brand new. I returned it to Amazon and bought my HP. Brand new stock manufactured 2 months ago. It works great, while the other unit did not work at all with Windows 10. What more can I say?

I decided to try the note book pro for my business trips so I special ordered one . They don't come with a built in DVD drive so I had to order the one pictured above. It work great for 6 months then I started having problems with the door no closing it just pop back out and the door would not stay closed. Now it doesn't work period and I can't burn important documents. I have request a replacement to no avail. Will HP keep their word? awaiting response!

Anyone wants to buy a external USB DVD RW drive I highly recommend you to purchase this drive. You will not be disappointed. HP inform me that I would receive my product by June 29, but I receive the item a week earlier. Thank you HP will quick shipping.

How much maximum can I back up to my files before it's storage is full. I'm not expecting this to meet my requirements as I'm trying to save approx. 300 GB of data.

The sad news is that I bought it because the internal DVDRW drive that came with my recently purchased HP all-in-one PC is not reliable. It is flimsy in its design and you run the risk of the CD falling inside and not coming out. But again, this external drive we are rating is good.

Worked within seconds of plugging in to my POWERED USB hub connected to my Windows 10 Pro 64-bit HP Laptop and having no problems reading and writing to my CD/DVD's. Playing movies, Installing software, Reading and Writing numerous photos, creating system backup disk. This CD/DVD drive is doing it all for me. A sturdily made product. Much better than the less expensive, No-name brands (at least to me) I ended up returning. Well worth the extra cost of other brands, knowing that I have a quality product and should I need support, HP will be there to help.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Mistakes When I ordered my laptop I wanted it with an internal DVD just like the previous HP product I use. While talking with the rep I asked whether the unit was equipped with a DVD and he said, "no, but you can order an external one." So, I included one with my order. I received the external DVD in the mail 4 days before the new laptop (that was another fiasco in it's self had to submit two orders to get it right). When the laptop arrives two days after the email I received stating I need to sign for it, wasting my time sitting around waiting for something that never came, it already had an internal DVD. I have never had this much trouble ordering from HP but will be very thought about doing it again.

I just bought a new HP zbook and for some reason it did not include a CD drive, and was advised by HP instead of having one added to my computer, it is just better and cost effective to buy an external driver. I just bought a new Honda CRV and needed to Rip my Cds to the computer and then transfer to a USB port to listen to them to my truck. This driver did everything I hoped it would. For $75 great purchase. I am NOT tech savvy, and even I could do this with a little help from utube tutorials. So happy with purchase, quality of transfer of the CDs was awesome. Thanks to the HP tech that advised me to purchase this driver.
