At 19.99 this will be very costly. i was about to get more from a cheaper model Hp printer then this 6500. the printer is good, but i see the black ink will be a problem. i'm using 920

I write the date of replacement on the cartridge when I put it in just to keep with the useage. I dont do alot of printing, mostly reports. I am paying $20.00 a month for the black cartridge and the others last about 2 months. I am really not happy.

So I have two full cartridges and a printer that can not use the cartridges. I bought an Envy for myself and my husband was to take over the HP officejet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Improvements Needed What started out as a wonderful product soon became a nightmare. The black ink ran out well into the beginning stages of printing. Maybe 100 pages. A line began to appear on sheets in the "Copy" mode. The solution recommended on the website is only temporary. I have an Epson printer that works much better and the black ink costs less and lasts much longer. I will not purchase another HP printer.

I LOVE my new office jet 6500 and the ink cartridge lists roughly 420 pages it is, well I have not gotten even maybe 80 pages out of this new cartridge and it's almost empty! I only print on medium quality as well. My old office jet cartridges would last forever! I purchased it at Office Max. My sales rep told me when I bought it that my cartridges would be 10.00 well, they are 21.00 for the black and not refillable which he failed to mention as well. I have a small business and am running only invoices which use minimal inkl and have run only a few preliminary tax reports. I am VERY upset Now off to spend another 21.00 quickly.

I printed less than a 100 copies without lots of wording and was out of black ink with a brand new cartridge. Printed on the back of the package it reads 420 pages but I got less than a 1/4 of that.

I change cartridges about every three months. 250 to 300 pages, and not full pages. I was told these could not be refilled. My next printer will be a HP, but I will check reviews prior to purchase.

What is up with this printer/ink cartridge? The other reviewer says to ignore the out of ink notice, and I will try, but the icons shows empty. the red and blue are half empty, and I hardly print anything with color! I am going to buy one more cartridge and if that runs out as quickly - well, what then?

New Printer is less than a print head for the HP6500. So, I get upgraded to new technology with warranty and more capability. This is great example of HP's support for their retirees and customers.

The price is inflated and the product sits too long thus open for defective product. I had this problem with a XLblack 920 toner purchased at Staples. Toner was all over the inside of the printer and a mess to clean up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ridiculous consumable cost This is the last straw. I have a HP Officejet 6000. I just replaced all the color carts and the black ink cartridged. I bought the color ones at a retail store, but ordered the black one from HP because of lack of availability. I received the black cart very quickly, but it is defective, It requires me to run cleaning cycles every three pages or so. So after three or four cleaning cycles, I am almost out of ink and have about 20 good pages to show for it. This includes the color carts, since the carts can't be cleaned separately. I might as well get a color laser, it would be cheaper to use than this printer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bad Decision I purchased the 6500 because of a great salesperson telling me how much more printing I would get with the XP cartridges, and all the great features. I was thrilled to get a $50 instant rebate for trading in my HP 990. I was impressed with the color printing from the factory cartridges. They actually lasted longer than any other cartidges I have purchased since. I had a year of nightmare printing, ink low messages, uneven printing, and the printer shaking so much it distorted printing. HP Customer Service offered no solution that worked, and decided not to repair or replace the printer even though they could see my printing results. This machine takes longer to print than my old printer, makes more noise, takes up too much space, and has not made me a fan of HP customer service. I wish I had kept my old printer because it worked better and the ink cartridges lasted a long time and were less expensive.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 920 XL Black ink cartridge I have purchased and used many of the small and large 920 cartridges and appreciate being able to purchase them online and to recycle the cartridges. I recently encountered a problem with the black XL cartridge. I have a busy fax machine and came home to find it full of empty pages. The fax contained a 920 XL black cartridge. The XL cartridge was new and the fax indicated it was still almost full. I finally went out and bought a smaller 920 cartridge and replaced it and the fax has worked well since. Based on this experience, I will probably only buy the smaller cartridges in the future. I sent the full cartridge back to your recycling center (thank you for the envelopes). Overall I am still satisfied with the product but will avoid the larger size in the future.

The one I had drank it among other problems. I love this printer for many reasons and will never stray from HP again. I print a lot both color and black and white and feel the ink lasts a long time.

Because this printer has four ink cartridges, I have to change them fairly often. But the black ink which costs twice as much is changed 5 times as often. I know, I know, you use black ink much more often than the others, but it still appears that it runs out very quickly, nearly every other week. The quickness of delivery is always a benefit. I love next day with no shipping charge. Keep that one HP. Just a thought, could you save money by having smaller packaging? Also, thought that maybe you could change the break off piece to a peel off piece, that would save money as well. Dale

Ink cartridge runs out after about one third of the recommended pages its supposed to print. Supposed to provide approx. 420 pages of print. Also, the color ink cartriges run out even quicker. Printer is for home use and I don't print photos. What gives HP?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 6500 USES TOO MUCH 920 INK Maybe if you print several pages a day you just might get the most pages for your ink dollar but if you print a couple pages a week you loose. The printer, an Office Jet 6500, drinks ink like a drunken sailor. I'm lucky to get 100 pages on fast draft mode before I run out of ink. That's just not right. Even the 920 XL's (which are now smaller) doesn't get even near to the amount of pages HP suggests.

I would be lucky to squeeze 100 "fast draft" pages of "black only", double spaced pages out of my printer. This whole "Up to..." verbiage that advertisers use is garbage. HP must be basing 420 pages on a very small percentage of print on a single page, thereby creating the CLAIM that you can get UP TO 420 PAGES per cartridge. Good luck.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Black 920 Printer Cartridge I like the 6500 printer. It's simple and easy to operate and does all the things I need, but the black printer cartridge is a joke. HP say 420 pages. My print jobs are fairly simple, mostly timecards I send weekly to my company. I got a low ink warning after less than 50 pages and an unsat print job today. I've been overriding the warning for the last 20-25 pages. Color cartridges so far are fine but I don't use them that much. Although this printer wasn't free, this is why HP, Dell and others can afford to give away printers with computers. They can then rip you off on the cartridges especially when one no longer has much choice.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Disappointed The cartridge we purchased was somewhat defective because the spring that snaps into the holder on my printer was loose and wouldn't spring into the clip. My husband was able to bend it sufficiently to work, but I was dissatisfied after spending so much for the cartridge.

The ink cartridge itself seemed cut slightly smaller, then the one I purchased. I had to dump the sample cartridge. So I feel like I got shorted a important item of equipment.

I have tried other brands that claimed to be original however, I have found that I get more copies from this product and the price is comparableand that saves me money.

Not only have I had lot's of trouble with it but the ink runs out WAY too quickly!!! You can't use the cheaper ones, the printer rejects them and all the inks run out far too quickly and are far too expensive!!! I will never buy HP again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great printer features, poor ink usage I bought this printer because it had the all in one features that i wanted, however I too was suprised when the low ink warning comes up so soon. It is totally disappointing how quickly i go through black for simple day to day printing. I like the HP printers and i have 4 different ones over the years, but this ink issue is a joke. My husband actually just purchased an HP laser Jet 1536 using toner for close to the same money i spent for mine. I wish i would have read the reviews regarding the ink prior to purchasing the printer.

I have had good results with my printer other than kinda loud and slow to get going on first page, but I had a brand new ink cartridge explode out black ink when I took the cap off before installing. The ink gushed all over my shirt, desk and carpet. It took me several days of persistance and ingenutiy to reach the right person, but HP agreed to give me a gift certificate in the value of my shirt and area rug. Just be careful where you open your cartrige in the future. Had I known about how soon the ink runs out, and not being able to refill the cartridges I might have chosen differently, but am fairly satisfied with the printers functioning.

The printer controls show the cartridges as still being full. I contacted HP customer service and they will refund the expense of buying two more. We'll see how these work.

I would recommend this to all that want the best without trying cheap misleading brands that are not the real item.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Suprisingly Poor Performance I've had good luck in the past with all HP ink cartridges whether purchased online or at local stores. This one was ordered directly from HP. When I finally ran completely out with my existing cartridge I put the new one in and it printed half a page like it was out of ink then stopped all together. Since I was printing mailing labels I had to have ink so I purchased another cartridge at Walgreens. It worked fine but I'm still out the original cost.

However, I am on my second HP printer and it is costing me a fortune. The black ink runs out "way" too fast. The first HP printer I had the black ink lasted forever and I print the same amount as I previously did (not much!). I went on line to your web site thinking I may be able to get it directly from you cheaper than WalMart. However, it is only 2 cents cheaper. I will think twice before I buy another HP printer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from black ink 920 the black ink 920 does not print 450 pages .it prints only 10% of the total pages 450..i spend more money to buy the ink than printer itself. HP should look those reviews from all users and improve the ink performance.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Out of Ink The printer it self is great. I love the two sided copying. BUT... the ink always runs out so fast. I print simple short pages and have never gotten even close to 100 pages yet. They need to come up with better ink cartridges.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Mailing was awful. I haven't installed them yet but I hope they are in working condition. One would think the bubble wrap package would protect the cartridges (three). When I opened the package, two of the three ink cartridges cardboard covers were crushed but the cartridges seem to be usable. I'll soon find out when I install them.

But, this last cartridge that I purchased ruined my printer. I purchased 1 black ink cartridge that leaked into my printer and damaged the entire printer and I now have a printer error and had to purchase another printer, which I do not like.

I hadn't noticed that ink levels were down until a document refused to print because of it. In a panic, I went online, signed in to HP.com, ordered my ink, asked for next day delivery and was done in about 5 minutes. Ink was there next day, and shipping was free. The ink is easy to install, functions flawlessly and is not too pricey. I've always used HP ink due to quality, ease of acquiring and my long history with HP products. By the way, I managed to print the needed document by adjusting the color settings, another great feature!
