Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Projector with Some Shortfalls Received our projector a month ago and intend to use it mainly for home theater with some outdoor viewing and occasional business use. We are a residential customer and not someone paid to write reviews. I am an engineer with substantial experience with A/V products. Overall, we're happy with the brightness and picture quality, which are exceptional. Good options for AV in/out connections. Purchased the optional Wi-Fi module, which is a custom fit in the Wi-Fi slot behind the air filter. Setup and configuration of the module was reasonable, but could be easier and has limitations with video not advertised. The 1450 is a long throw projector. If you have space limitations, highly suggest doing the research and math ahead of time to ensure the 1450 will project within your allotted space. The zoom feature helps a lot (never buy a projector w/o zoom). For the 1450 to project on a 100" screen requires a decent amount of setback distance between the screen and 1450. Was not at all an issue for us, but something to be aware of. Overall the projector is a very good projector, but a few limitations in the hardware and GUI keep it from becoming a great projector. Pros: Picture Quality: Extremely happy with the brightness and picture quality of the 1450. Both are simply exceptional. Have a lot of experience with projectors in my profession and many projectors wash out with even minimal ambient light. Not the 1450. It is really bright and the video quality is superb. Quick Startup: Some projectors take forever to start and warm up. Takes about a minute for the 1450 to achieve full brightness on startup, which is very good. By the time you turn on the projector and get yourself comfortable the screen is coming into view and you're ready to go. Initial Setup: Initial setup was easy. The auto keystone feature and zoom are a big plus many users will appreciate. Provides a wide range of options on where to mount/use the projector relative to the screen. We used the manual keystone feature too just to try it out and it was pretty straightforward to adjust also. The manual keystone adjustment provides very fine adjustment of the picture to allow you to precisely align the picture to the screen. AV Connections: The 1450 has about every AV connection you would want or need (almost). USB, HDMI and audio in/out are the bare minimum. A third HDMI may be desired for gamers to avoid having to use a HDMI switch. The stereo audio out is a must, which the 1450 has - in 3mm mini-stereo and L/R RCA audio out. However, even in this price range some projectors don't provide a stereo out option, which is something to be aware of. Having RCA for audio/video in and out is a nice feature many projectors don't have. Epson iProjection Software: There's pros and cons here. The pros are it's nice to be able to sync up your iPhone or Android device to be used as a picture source and/or a second remote to control the projector. However, as with the Wi-Fi module there are limitations too to the iProjection software that could and should be addressed. Installation, setup and sync of the iProjection software on my iPhone was fairly straightforward. Able to control the projector from the phone and easily view pictures on the projector via the WiFi link. Was not able to launch or view videos from my iPhone on the projector. The lack of a video link via WiFi is an issue. Presentation features: One of the cool features of the 1450 is the ability to annotate/draw on a projected picture sourced from your iPhone. How? Using the iProjection software, view a picture on the projector and select the pen on the lower right on the iPhone screen. Then draw something on the iPhone screen with your finger and it will appear on the projected image. This is a very useful feature for presentations to groups that has a lot of potential applications. My wife plans to use this in her small business. Cons: There are a few things to be aware of that prevent the 1450 from getting a 5 star rating. They may be minor to some, but are also relatively easy to fix to achieve that 5 star endorsement. GUI - Epson's setup menu is ok, and easy to negotiate. However, in order to get from every sub-menu back to the main menu you first have to go up to the top of the sub-menu and click Return. Since the menus are nested laterally on the screen, it would be so easy to just enable the user to migrate left to right to move from the main menu to sub menus AND back to the main menu again. The extra up moves required to move back to the return button in order to return to the main menu quickly become a nuisance. Epson needs to fix this and it should be an easy fix to incorporate. Hopefully future software updates will take care of it. WiFi Module: We purchased the Epson WiFi module with the intent to wirelessly stream video from our devices to the projector. The manual says you must use only the Epson WiFi module. The manual does not say anything about the WiFi only supporting photos and not video. Not sure what is going on there. I was able to install the WiFi module and get it to sync with our network pretty easily. Just had to search for our home network and enter the encryption key for our FIOS Access Point (router). Installed the iProjection software on my MAC and iPhone and was expecting to be able to stream video wirelessly from the laptop to the projector. That's where the video issues and limitations surfaced. When trying to stream Netflix and Disney from the MAC to the projector we received a popup error message and the video would not launch. Youtube videos worked in some cases within in the browser provided I didn't expand the video to full screen on the laptop but there was some delay in the audio (so what's the point of streaming to the projector if you can't go full screen?) I contacted Tech Support who informed me the 1450 projector and WiFi module have video limitations that prevent video streaming in some/many cases. The Tech Support agent informed me the WiFi module is only designed to support "streaming" of photos and presentations like PowerPoint and similar apps. Whenever someone reads "WiFi" they assume it means streaming audio AND video without caveats. That is what WiFi is for, at least in most cases. Not the case with the 1450. This is a big drawback of the 1450 and may prompt us to return the 1450 and go with another brand. WiFi is WiFi and should not have caveats. If the 1450 was capable of streaming wireless video, this 1450 would be a solid 5 star projector, hands down. As is, this limitation almost bumped the rating to a 3 Star. The performance of the brightness and picture quality preserved the 4 Star, but just barely. Mono Speaker: The internal speaker is fairly powerful, but only provides mono audio. For a projector in this price range, stereo should be provided. Understand the space tradeoffs in the overall projector package, but mono is blasé. Fan Noise: The cooling fan on the 1450 is something to be aware of. It is not obtrusive to the point of being distracting, but you are aware of it. I pondered whether to mention it at all, but for some applications where noise is critical, this is something something to consider. (With the acknowledgement all projectors have fans with some noise). There are tradeoffs with the fan noise relative to bulb life. The better the cooling, the cooler the bulb, the longer the bulb life, the louder the fan. No S-Video Port: Some projectors in this price range have an S-Video Port. While S-Video has come and gone with the introduction of 1080P and 4K, there's still a lot of people out there with S-Video based sources that would appreciated the option. There are adapters to go from S-Video to HDMI, which are reasonable alternatives. No bag: Epson should include a bag with the 1450. While not listed as a portable projector, the 1450 is easily portable. Given its iProjection features, many people will want to use the 1450 for small business apps, and they should as it has many features that support small business use. However, for the price range the 1450 is in, the inclusion of a padded bag should be a given.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Projector After doing some research, I decided on this projector mainly for outdoor use. The main things I looked for is brightness, ease of use, and quality. It performs great outdoors. Even in the middle of the day, with shade, it's still visible. I project it on a 170" screen and it looks amazing. You do need to have the space though to put the projector far enough away. I would not recommend this if you don't have the space.

I like this projector because you can have all the shades and blinds open and still see what's on the screen. Can't go wrong for the price. I haven't use all the functions yet but so far a excellent projector.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this projector Easy to set up, bright 4200 lumens, lightweight enough to be portable. Only drawback like with all of these is only 2 HDMI ports so if you have a lot of devices (apple TV, cable, game boxes...), you're going to need a switch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Picture! I normally don't write product reviews but after seeing the picture quality this projector produced, I am compelled to share my experience. Setup and installed was effortless, simply plug and play. Power On, Zoom, focus and enjoy! I could not believe my 120 inch projection from Epson 1450 matches top LCD screens. This is coming from a guy who bought Plasma first and then OLED for picture quality only. The picture quality exceeds much more expensive projectors. Great for day viewing but best at night or low light. Even ECO mode produces excellent picture brightness.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Disappointed Picture is decent (and works well in daylight) but the auto iris creates a grinding noise that can overpower a quiet room and distract from any TV show. Returned one unit and they sent me a new one with the same issue. Was told by Epson that the noise is just the way it is unless I turn off the auto iris...which then creates a poorer picture. Very disappointed in the product. Projector is ceiling mounted above the couch so if this is your setup, I would not recommend this product.

Built in speakers are ok for audio, but opportunity to connect to better systems is now easily possible. This is a fine unit and I woul recommend it to others for purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sweet Baby Jane Live in a house that is natural lit all the time with sky lights, large windows, and bright sun. Normally in the summer with other projectors we've had to wait til late to start movies because there was too much light. With this, even in the daylight no problem with great picture even in a well lit room. Grand Slam~!!
