It is a different wattage than my original charger, but I was told by Dell that this was the one to buy. Then my laptop did not identify it as a Dell product, then it would not charge my laptop. After 3 days, it finally started charging my device. I don't know what was going on with it, but it was very frustrating. I am not confident that it will continue to charge my device.

My last laptop was also Dell Inspiron and it worked for four years but went through six power adapters in that time. Dell, you really need to work on the quality of the adapters. If you don't make a change I would be buying a Dell laptop next time as the adapters have cost me more than the laptops did.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from If you buy from them expect issues If you order from Dell, no replacement parts will work well unless it's from Dell, BUT sometimes it doesn't work at all. This charger doesn't charge the battery, and I can't replace the battery with another unless it's purchased directly from Dell. (I tried that and their service made it imposible. When your warranty runs out, be prepared for computer repair shops to tell you that they cannot fix your computer because Dell parts are expensive an no other parts will work with it. Also, if you need a battery replacement, they don't sell them through the site, you have to order a refurbished battery from their support services. Good luck.

These batteries are being replaced because poorly constructed in the first place. The price was a bit high.Dell has good service on the phone but I think this power system was mediocre. AFter being a loyal Dell customer for three laptops, I have switched to an alternative which I am happy with. My dell computers were not bad, but the power system was a weakness.

After 2 years my computer began performing badly and no technician could fix it. Finally I found a computer repairman who suggested getting a higher Watt adapter. I did and my computer is performing seamlessly. That's the great news about this product. However, why did Dell sell this computer, the Inspiron 15-5000 with a poor adapter in the first place?

My friend didn't buy it from Dell. This Dell adapter I purchases which is a Genuine Dell adapter has not solved to problem. But the laptop only occasionally shows the message. This laptop was released in 2017, is this considered old?

The Dell charging cord is also putting out the correct amount of electricity into my laptop, which I found out the other was too low. I wish I would have just bought this one to begin with when the original was damaged.

The new 65 watt supply fixed the slow processor, and things are back to normal Again!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Have to have it. Had to buy some replacement power supplies for my Inspiron 3780. I typically get about a year out of these things. Dell power supplies are notorious for developing issues. The sad part is, it's rarely the power supply itself that fails, it's the integral jack that plugs into the computer. For about a dollar more, they could make this part detachable, just like the AC power cord to the wall outlet. If they did this, you could choose the length of the cord from the power adapter brick to the computer for convenience, and only replace the jack when it goes bad instead of ordering an entire adaptor. As it is, there are two failure points: where the cord comes out of the brick, and where the cord comes out of the jack. Also, it would be nice if Dell got with the twenty-first century and replaced the plug in jack with a magnetic connector to eliminate the stress point entirely.

Poor design in my opinion. It should be reinforced there. Will have to be careful where I plug with this one so it doesnt bend and damage the wires again.

The charger works fine, but when ordering a part directly from Dell, I expected it to have the official DELL branding on it - just like the charger that came with the laptop originally. This just says "Made In China", and has a very small (fine print) "Dell Inc" on the back.

Not only does it charge faster, the wire that comes out of the jack is soft and flexible. My old cord was stiff here and the way I sit with my laptop the cord had to bend and I think it damaged the wires inside. It had gotten so messed up it didn't even charge the laptop anymore (I'd had it 5 years.)

The plug seems to fit too loosely into the power receptacle and I get an error message on the screen that indicates it can't determine the wattage, and requires 65w power. That was interesting to me since the original cord issued with the laptop was only 45w. I can use this cord for now, but it bothers me that I would need to replace it so often.

It has had this problem intermittently since I bought it, but I thought it was something I was doing wrong or it was just a bad battery. I replaced the battery, and that didn’t fix it. I replaced the power supply, and the laptop died. At least the laptop ran using the old adapter; now it won’t run or charge on either adapter. I am giving up on Dell computers based on my recent experience. I really like Dell computers, but I can’t afford it if it isn’t reliable. I’ve spent time and money chasing this problem, and did not get a positive result. I am cutting my losses, just posting here in case others have had a similar experience, because this issue was just odd.

This is the second charger I've had that has this problem.

This new one works fine. Dell should consider changing the straight connector with one that has a 45 degree angle to prevent this.

I made clear that I wanted an adapter for an Inspiron 7558. The adapter I received has a connector that is much too large to plug into my computer. It has been weeks, and I have not been able to get Dell to send me an appropriate adapter. I don't just want my money back, I want a part that works.

The wirles to the conn are extremely thin and the design of the outer covering does not allow for the cable being bent to a 45 deg or less connection when the computer is sitting on someones lap when in use.

My adapter died, so I bought a non-Dell adapter at 1/5 the price that Dell wanted. It worked fine for 2 weeks. Then my laptop started to display messages that a non-Dell adapter was detected. The laptop would no longer charge after that. After the battery dies, you can still use it while plugged into an AC outlet but it does not accept a charge and the laptop shuts down if you unplug it. And additionally, Dell then slows down the processer on the laptop to make it a pain to use. The laptop will not speed back up until you buy one of Dells over-priced adapters. This Dell policy is very poor. I will never buy another Dell laptop.

It would also be of value to all users if Dell and other vendors standardized adapters and power plugs. It would be better if the adapter and the custom tip were separable so that if the tip fails, the adapter need not be replaced, especially with the signal sensing central pin in the adapter barrel. Finally, the ideal power adapter would be magnetically connected instead of mechanically connected to that the risk to the notebook's power jack would be eliminated.

But it should have been included with my Inspiron -- it was not. Instead I received the "Type C" power adapter, which supplies power to the PC through the USB-C Thunderbolt port. Why tie up the most powerful data port on the PC to simply supply power when there is a dedicated round power connector? That makes no sense. Looks like Dell wants to sell more of these power adapters, but I suspect it's just a screw-up. I complained to Order Support and got a small rebate on the PC price, but had to buy this adapter separately.

The reason it needed to be replaced is that the wires inside it right next to the plug-in got bent to many times and no longer allowed the computer to charge up. The new adapter does seem slightly thicker to protect the wires inside better. However, the other problem that I have had with both adapters hasn't been corrected, and that is there just isn't enough of a "grip" on the plug into the computer to hold it in securely and it tends to come out easily which lend to the original being bent too often and I'm afraid it is just going to happen again. There really is nothing wrong with the adapter itself, it is the end that goes into the computer that really is the biggest problem.

The adapter works fine, but I am disappointed that I couldn't just order the portion of the cord I required. The plug that goes into the computer on my old cord broke, so I was hoping that I could order a cord that goes from the AC adapter box to the computer. However, that cord is directly secured to the adapter box, so there was no option but to purchase a new adapter - just to fix the computer plug. If the cord from the wall plug to the adapter box is detachable, why can't the cord from the adapter box to the computer plug be detachable as well? This created unnecessary waste, as I am now just going to take my old cord adapter box and cords to the local ecostation.

The website said it was the right part, brought it up as the right part, I double checked the website and it said it was the right part, but it was not. Second time this has happened with Dell. I have to pay to ship it back, restocking fee, etc. This is my last attempt with Dell. I am sorry to say. The Dell laptop I have can take up to 20 minutes to boot, and now thus problem just with a charger for the Netbook. I won’t buy another Dell.

The light is on the box as opposed to the plug that goes into the laptop, the 3 prong part that goes into the outlet is made of a rather bulky, rigid material. altogether this charger does not fit a stylish expensive laptop. It is also too expensive.

Then dell slows the PC way down, after it "detects" a problem with the adapter. Works fine now, but if this one dies quickly like the last one, I will never buy another Dell.

When attached, BIOS informed me that my unit needed a 90 Watt supply. I called support to initiate a return and get my shipping refunded since the unit was mis-represented on their website. They basically said it was my fault and that they would only refund the price of the supply. Pretty poor service when the My Dell app with my unique Service Tag sent me to the 65 Watt adapter page. As a long-time Dell customer, I was treated pretty poorly.

Your system will operate slower and battery will not charge." pop-up warning. Not sure why this is happening after it was the recommended replacement but at least it will charge the laptop, just not as quickly as the original charger.

Putting the 3 prong part into the old charger allows a brief charge while still plugged in, but shuts off after about a half hour. Won't charge the battery enough to keep a charge at all once unplugged. Basically does almost nothing.

The adapter was purchased after the computer to provide a convenient backup power source. Except for one issue, the power adapter I recently purchased is working as well as I could expect. That one exception, however, does concern me. In the last several weeks of use there have been 2 or 3 times when I warning box has appeared on my computer screen saying the computer does not recognize the adapter as a Dell original. It has never stopped working, however, and the warning disappears within a few seconds. I am wondering, though, what it is that made that happen.

It is the same I got when purchased and that one broke off at the end of the cord due to turning it around. It should be made to hold up through turning. This is difficult to explain so, I hope you understand what I am trying to say.

I was afraid it was the power port, but, it was either a worn plug or I had dropped the laptop on the plug while plugged in. I would recommend this product.

I called customer service and made sure that I order the correct plug for my daughter’s Dell Chrome book. The cord that was recommended for my computer was wrong, so I sent that cord back and ordered another cord however, I haven’t seen or heard anything regarding the second cord. The customer service email doesn’t work at all, I finally received a reply email after a month wait and basically nothing was answered. Horrible customer service and extremely professional.

True to form Dell's Customer Service punctuality and communication was lacking as expected. At least this issue was resolved in time unlike other previous interactions with the company. I have a number of other Dell-branded power supplies that are a larger barrel; more for their business models? 4.5 mm is flimsy. These work fine for a 40-year-old AM radio. I expect better for a multi-hundred-dollar notebook computer. Purchased for a Dell 3501 model, it works as expected. I didn't purchase the laptop because of it's power supply format. Those just come along for the ride. We left our brick behind while travelling (to the in-laws). A second is useful and, at some point, will get the other one back. So yeah. It works. What more can you expect from a power cord? We can expect a lot more from manufacturers though.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from New Power Adapter Doesnt Do The Job! Bought an official Dell power adapter for my Dell laptop 65W 4.5mm barrel, verified with Dell chat this was what I needed for my model. The adapter wouldnt charge the battery unless I taped it down on the keyboard in a certain position, this is the same thing that happened with the one that came with my laptop when it was brand new. According to IT folks, this is a common occurrence for Dell laptops!!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wrong Power Adapter - Returned The Dell Support webpage for devices with Service Tag 3N5FXT2 (a Inspiron Chromebook 11 3181) lists the following product as the power adapter: 'Dell 4.5MM Barrel 45W Power Adapter with 6feet cord' This is what I used to order said power adapter. This is the wrong adapter. The 'Inspiron 3181 Setup and Specifications' documentation (found using the same Service Tag) lists as the power adapter as: '7.4 mm Type 65 W' - which appears to be correct. I'm not so much concerned with the difference in wattage as I am with the fact that the Dell 4.5mm barrel adapter DOES NOT FIT this Chromebook. It is useless to me and was returned.

It would run on a third party cheapie PSU but the Samsung battery would not charge nor would the Win10 uefi bios partition update with it plugged in. This did the job, got my unit back and all is working perfectly. Ordered this unit the same day I ordered a complete 16 core workstation for my self as well, the unit arrived BEFORE all the other componentry. Thanks, Dell!

The old one had bent from the weight of the cord and the cord had also split from the bending and wouldn't stay in. Thankfully the replacement works fine. Dell should consider a redesign on the cord where it plugs in to the computer to reduce the stress of the weight of the cord.

Either the receiver is loose, has a short in it or doesn't fit the charging plugs I've tried because my laptop will work along great (plugged in but after a couple of hours I'll get a prompt that my battery is almost out of power and I should plug my computer in. So, I sit and hold the plug in a position where my laptop will charge and use my mouse with the other hand. Really annoying.

I had to buy this 65W adapter because the 45W adapter that Dell ships by default with the Inspiron 15" 5579 2-in-1 is ultimately inadequate with the notebook charging system. Ultimately, the 45W supply isn't even recognized by the Dell firmware and the laptop will no longer charge the battery, but only run directly from the adapter. I don't understand why Dell doesn't provide a 65W adapter to begin with, rather than making it "a customer learning experience." Anyway, once I replaced the 45W adapter with this 65W model, "All's well again," the new adapter is recognized and the laptop battery charges normally.

You must be super careful not to let it get stressed when using on a lap. Would not recommend Dell lap top because power unit is so bad. Previous Dell units much better. Dell should replace for free.

Is actually 65W and does not trigger the 800MHz slowdown due to non-Dell power supplies, as found in cheap replicas that are out there in vast numbers. However, it is not however the one pictured. That is in fact the 90W supply with a larger, flatter form factor. The one you receive will be the smaller rectangular one. Other than than, ok. Thanks

Your person told me to get the 45 watt even thou I told them I was told by the IT guy that I needed the 65 watt. It was a big hassle!!!! I was talked into the 45 and it was not recognized buy you computer even thou that is what your computer calls for. Your computer dose not recognize your cord and that is what my IT guy told me that your computers have that problem a lot!!! As my IT guy said the 65 watt is working just fine. I will never going to buy a Dell again!!!

The battery also needed to be replaced, but original had lasted almost six years. Purchased both from Dell knowing it was more expensive than some of the others online. The aftermarket cheap adapters fit poorly and even caused a broken jack that we had to replace. But the Dell adapter solved our problems.

My adapter was struck and caused my computer not to function. The internet provider installed a new power source and advised all I needed was an adapter & power cord. He recommended to use the Dell brand as my computer was that brand.

I've been purchasing Dell products since I was in college, this has been my favorite computer purchase so far. I say this because I haven't had any trouble with it. After 5 years the only thing that went bad was the charger wire, and that's from 5 years of frequent travel and use. The time has come for a replacement and after 5 years, I cannot complain!

I presumed this particular unit (Being a Dell brand) would be 100% compatible with our 4 year old computer. When we plugged it in the first time a message popped up stating something to the affect, "the charger is not a Dell device so it may not charge." One wonders why a "chip" or other device is not integrated to communicate with other Dell devices to avoid this confusing detail. The rating is based upon poor device/consumer interface.

For this reason I have to keep replacing them. Otherwise it is perfectly good in terms of how it works. But having to replace so often is a pain.

I had to exchange it. Customer Service was extraordinary and the exchange was seamless. Now that I have the correct barrel size, everything is great! I would advise getting a sales person to help with the initial part purchase.

I had tried an electronics store and the geek sold me a store brand replacement that was supposed to fit my laptop. It didn't and wouldn't charge the battery. He did give me the Dell web address and I found this. It fit and charges like original equipment. I was so pleased that I ordered a second one to have at work. This was $16 less than the store replacement was. Arrived in 3 days . Very pleased.

I just needed to get a new one with the US plug. It's working pretty well for now, same as my old adapter. Shipping was fast.

He informed me a sepatate payment of $25mo.due in 30 to 40 days from purchase date n I would receive an email before the due date."I called on Dec 12 for the due date and the info was all wrong. I'm sure Dell train your reps to give customers incomplete information n it's not their fault.
