I connected it to my home network so me and my wife can print from our Iphone's. I would never go back to an inkjet printer, at least not for my needs.

The supplied software was easy to add to both my Win 10 laptop and desktop computers and the MFC-L5800 was simple to connect with my WiFi network. The prints are very sharp and very fast and the two sided printing works great for printing out .pdf and word processor files from my computers. (The auto document feeder on the L5800 cannot automatically read both sides of paper documents so it takes some additional thought and manual effort to scan or print both sides of printed paper docs.)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Toner and Drum Deposits on Document Margin Bought the printer for in-home business use and had no problem unpacking product. After running the first few pages on the new printer I started noticing lite toner deposits on left hand margin. Called technical support, followed their instructions for drum cleaning/re-seating the toner cartridge, and the problem persisted. Support recommended toner cartridge/drum replacement but ended up returning the whole product and was able to get this new one up and running with no deposits found on the replacement printer output pages. Check your print quality carefully and use technical support before 30day warranty fades or you'll be stuck.

But once a week, when I click to scan a document, the electrical breaker connecting to the electrical outlet switched off in another closed office. I put the printer another electrical outlet and a week later, the electrical breaker switched off again. I put the printer on a high voltage surge protector. A week later, the electrical breaker switched off. I took the printer back but could not get a replacement.

After running out of color I took the machine back to COSTCO and with the support of the staff at COSTCO got my money back. HOWEVER, I WISH TO THIS DAY that I bought the Brother COLOR!!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Now, it works great. Machine worked great for first 2 weeks, then started showing a gray background on printed pages. That continued for a month when I called Brother customer service and explained the problem. They sent me a 2 page instruction to correct the problem. Followed directions and no solution achieved. I figured it was either the toner cartridge or the drum assembly. Called Brother again and the tech said I would have to purchase a new toner cart. since that was a consumable and not under warranty. He then said if I had purchased directly from Brother, they would replace the cartridge but because I did not purchase directly from them, they could not replace the cartridge. I then asked for a supervisor, explained situation, and he stated they would send me a new cartridge; that Brother would honor my warranty no matter where I purchased the machine. Couple days later, a new cartridge arrived and my machine has worked flawlessly since.

If you another brother installed that isn't the same model you may have issues with ControlCenter4 and you will need to reinstall the OS. Yes the OS as brother will no longer remotely assist you with anything other than giving you the same instructions that every search engine will.

It prints faster than my older model. No issues. Just wish Brother would bring the buttons back. I hate touch screens!

This is probably my fault, I should of ordered one a step up. But this thing is fast and really scans and copies well. I am a teacher so the scanner comes in real handy with remote learning. Uploads to computer and allows me to edit and post easily. Well worth the investment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really disappointed. I've had some great Brother printers, but this one was a real pain in the patoody. If you don't remember to put up the stop, even if it's only a couple of papers, the feeder tosses them on the slow. Maybe it's because I have a Mac but had software problems every day. Can't tell you how many times I was on the phone to tech support or rebooted the software or hardware. Never failed to freeze up or keep documents in the queue just when I needed it most. I ended up giving it away and buying a Canon.

I paired this up for a 2nd tray to print legal and letter at the same time, and does a wonderful job, and fast. Customer support, as always walked me through it without a hitch! I have it hooked with the printer cable to my laptop, while my son uses the wireless feature at the same time from his room, and works flawlessly. I highly recommend this All -in-One.

I didn't think I'd like the touch pad, but frequent use has changed my mind. I scan numerous documents on a daily basis. Periodically, the scan feature will lock up and I have to restart my computer to end the scan session....reason for 4 stars. I replaced a Brother MFC-8510DN with this purchase; VERY HAPPY.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works Great Captures Big Images Printer works great and the scanner captures even the edges of documents, which is something other printers (including previous Brother printers do not. Only problem was that the pre-installed toner leaked immediately and I had to clean the entire machine right out of the box. The replacement toner cartridge works great, though. I thought Brother should have provided some accommodation for that defect but they only replaced the cartridge and I was left with the tedious chore of cleaning the entire machine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worst printer ever!! First printer lasted one week, then froze. Wouldn't receive faxes, wouldn't print, touchscreen was unresponsive. Customer service shipped out a refurbished printer which didn't work at all. The same issues as before. Called customer service again, and asked for a new printer for a replacement, which they did for me. The new printer did not work either, with the exact same issues. I called customer service asking if this was common for this printer, and I was told that this is a unique issue. I am using the older model of this printer, about 8 years old. My older model is slower but 100% more dependable than the Brother MFC-L5800DW

It lasted 5 months and already fading one side. New toner, new drum. Low volume home use is okay, but would not recommend for business use.

It’s been working good so far, the setup was a bit confusing. Overall, I’m satisfied but I’ve got many other features to try. I don’t regret buying this printer.

Now I have intermittent issues with the way it prints. the copy does not line up properly on the page and the printer pulls several blank pages out behind the printed page with the print occasionally overlapping on tp the next page. It does not happen all the time, but frequently enough that I have to constantly double check every page that is printed

The biggest problem has been toner getting on the printed page. Better after a second cleaning but it took a bit of work and lots of q-tips to get at all the speckles.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Duplexing is not automatic. The product works great! But when the specs say it duplexes, you must understand that you can't put documents in the automatic document feeder. It duplexes one sheet at a time from the scanner glass. Then you manually turn over the paper to print on the other side. To duplex automatically, you need to buy the 5900. I returned my 5800 and bought the 5900. So my review more reflects the way the product is represented as opposed to its performance.

The feeder rollers go out and you will get inconsistent printing, meaning it goes at an angle so the print starts coming out slanted and not centered.

However, our recent purchase has encountered scanning issues which where deemed unsolvable. Quite the inconvenience for us, having said that, Brother has stepped up to the plate and is replacing the unit for us. Fingers crossed the replacement gives us another set of great years of operation. Certainly will continue to support Brother products. Overall the unit has taken care of all our needs.

When I try to scan the same documents a second time, the problem often still exists.

This is the third printer that I had to purchase due to the fact that the scan feed stop working or if it does work, pulls through two and three pages at the same time. I spent hours on the phone trying to correct the problem but without any success.

Printer will disregard pdf page size (prints only letter rather than mixed letter/legal and shrinks print. Same pdf prints ok on my other Brother printer. Unfortunately, the printer became stopped working after about 1,000 prints which is extremely low for a printer of this type. I have a old HP printer that has outlasted this machine, geez. Anyways, it had a 1 year warranty but because it was a few months past, Brother would not return or provide some type of rebate. Lastly, Brother reviewed my review and would not post unless I made some changes. What a sham

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Decent printer for home use. We purchased this printer at work to replace our old Brother printer that died on us. It seemed like a great upgrade as it is the newer model. I apparently didn't read the description/product info close enough though as it does not duplex scan or copy and I use that feature a lot at work. It is quite time-consuming having to manually flip the pages while trying to scan or copy any documents that are double sided. It does duplex print which is nice. With the software, I have already had to uninstall and re-install it twice. I have come into work and certain features just won't work that day. I go through the normal steps to try and resolve the issue. If I am unable to resolve the issue, I call the tech support and they have been very helpful; however, it has resulted in a fresh start each time, which again is time-consuming while at work. I do like how quickly it prints compared to my old brother printer. The duplex is very fast and it hasn't jammed up at all really. All in all a decent printer, but not for an office setting that requires the duplex feature with multiple functions.
