Sony SEL2470Z - zoom lens - 24 mm - 70 mm is rated 4.50 out of 5 by 103.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Compact and Good Price This lens is well built and has excellent optics. While I am sure that the Sony 24-70 GM 2.8 lens is incredible, it is also very large and relatively expensive. The Zeiss 24-70 is much more compact and fits my budget better.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fast and clean I'm doing photos long time, tested different systems, but only with Sony camera and my first lens Zeiss i get quality that i need. Aperture not a problem with A7C camera

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Jury's out. Happy so far. Will not really know until the new year. Solid build and great light collection. Think it is a good choice for an ll round lens. Definitely superior to the cheaper 50mm prime lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good but not awesome. The quality is good but nothing out of this world. Lots of distorsion at 24mm (because it is a wide angle). My review would have been higher if the price would have been lower.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from STUNNING LENS... This excellent lens lives on my a7ii. The combined weight of ±1,000gms puts no strain on my neck. Results on my 30" Apple Cinema Screen at full size are pin sharp. The attached snaps were nearly all grabbed on a dull morning within 200yds or so of Nelson's Column in London

Rated 5 out of 5 by from V-T 24-70 ...............A-1 My Vario-Tessar T FE 24-70mm F4 AZ OSS performed wonderfully as I played with my new "a-7" mirrorless camera system during a week in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, recently. Easy of handling, and pristine focus capabilities made for a cakewalk....... with more practice I will be able to push the envelope a bit.......many thanks for a superb product,.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Happy with it, really good results I bought this a few weeks ago with my new A7 II. I have sent back the first copy because the sides on 24mm were really bad. This second copy is better, but it is still far from perfect. I have tested it and over 30mm everything is super sharp, and even at 24mm stopped down is useable. So I decided to keep it, because I will get the 16-35 as well, and that will cover the weak 24mm part. So apart from this it is a really good lens, really sharp and lots of detail. I recommend it! And if you are a street/portrait/family photographer, you won't even notice this problem, it will be a perfect lens. I like the colours it produces, and the built is really high quality as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice Light 24-70mm Zoom Lens Very well made lens with a beautiful feel when zooming. Not quite as sharp as the 55mm lens. Compared to the f2.8 Canon and Nikon versions of the lens it is noticeably lighter and smaller which is expected since it is an f4 lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good but expensive Its a seller's market for the full frame E mount lenses - this is the only current choice if you want wider than 28mm, which as a landscape photographer I do! In general the lens performs well, but it does have a very large amount of in-camera correction which saps its resolution somewhat on the A7r. It makes a quite nice combination with the A7r and does manage to take really nice portrait shots. It has optical stabilisation which sets it apart from anything you can mount on the camera via an adapter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lens Good to use although it would be nice if maximum aperture was f2.8.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from General zoom for A7R Lens is a little larger and heavier than 55/1.8 but covers a nice range. Tests I did on sharpnes in the corners shows very good performance as does a number of independent tests not as good as the two primes (35, 55) but you won't notice this for 99% of your shots. It is an ideal walk around lens and fits nicely in a small camera case.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very happy I use this with my a6000 and despite it being an APS-C with a full frame lens, the pictures look great. This is my first lens and I'm really happy I got it. It's now my kit lens on my a6000 and I'm looking at the 70-200 Zeiss. I'd easily recommend this to anyone with an e-mount camera.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Great lens for a great camera! The Sony A7 is a wonderful little camera that avoids the hassle of lugging around a DSLR. This lens gives the camera a nice versatility and, because it is a Sony-Zeiss, is of the finest quality. Unless you are a professional photographer, you won't stop using this camera except for occasions such as wildlife shooting that require special equipment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Perfect Lens for The A7/A7R This is the perfect all purpose lens for the high res A7 and the ultra high res A7R. I waited with the new camera (A7R) body and no lens, until this lens came out. It was worth the wait. I'm a pixel peeper and this lens does not disappoint. It's not too big or too heavy and it works so well. It has the constant f4 throughout its whole range, so if it doesn't seem all that fast at 24mm it does at 70mm. Great lens for most purposes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice Walkabout Lens Easy to use but best on 'automatic' mode. Good colour rendition and pretty sharp throughout all apertures. Do not expect this lens to be as good as the 55mmF1.8 or 135mmF1.8 but it is very useful for those walkabout shots - which do not disappoint. Get one, I'm pleased I did!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ideal Lens for A7S In general I prefer single focal length lenase, like the 35mm f2.8 Sony/Zeiss E mount lens that I used on A7R earlier today of a whale leaping out of the water. It was a very long way away, but the high resolution of A7R made this image possible. The 2nd image is cropped from the 1st; the inset image is from the 2nd. On A7S which is the high-iso champion, but with 1/3 the resolution of A7R, this 24-70 mm Sony/Zeiss zom lens is ideal because the "cropping" can be done in camera.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Top Lens This is a workhorse of a lens for me until the wide angle 16-35 becomes available. It is sharp and preforms as good as it's big brother 24-70 f2.8 It is light and great for hiking and when coupled to the A7r it is a powerful tool in my camera bag. I did testing for sweet spot and the lens performed super at all focal lengths f/8 the best but 5.6 to 16 was also excellent with f4 and 22 useable. I have used the lens wide open on stars and the performance is phenomial.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from fits the bill Having upgraded an A6000 + sony 16-70 f4 zeiss for an A7ii and the sony 24-70 f4 zeiss and having read numerous reviews beforehand, I was slightly concerned as to whether the 24-70 would at least equal the 16-70 in performance. But I should not have been concerned for the 24-70 surpasses my expectations and is the perfect companion for the A7ii.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Versatile Standard Zoom Lens This is an ideal lens for travel photography as the focal lencth range of 24mm to 70mm will cover 80% of my needs. There are plenty of reviews out there complaining of poor image quality but I have not found this to be the case. I will say it is a little over priced but at present there are not many alternatives.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Lens I have to say I love this lens. After putting it through some tests I found it to be very sharp throughout the len's range. Reading some reviews about the focus speed being slow, I didn't have this issue...it seems as fast as any other F4 lens I have. Great everyday lens...tad on the heavy side but I'll take that any day over being cheaply built.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Versital fe lens for A7/A7R/A7S The FE 24-70 is versatile. But for a lens with an f/4.0, this lens was expensive. I needed a single lens for my new A7R. The FE 24-70 has lens stabilization. (Sony calls the feature "Optical Steady Shot.") I wish the body was stabilized, like my Olympus E-M1, E-M5, and E-5. Perhaps the rumored Sony "Pro" mirrorless FF, which may be released in 2015, will have in-body stabilization. I shoot Olympus m4/3 and 4/3 so I have no native lenses for the Sony A7R which I could mount with an adapter. I've ordered the Zeiss 55mm FE f/1.8 and I look forward to shooting with the 55mm. I also look forward to more fast Sony FE primes in 2015. In the A7R menu, you can turn on the APS-C feature and the 24-70 is magnified 1.5x. This ads to the versatility of the FE 24-70.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very good lens I love the images from this lens, and the OSS is really great. I've hand-held down to 1/15sec at 70mm. I just wish: it costs less; it had lower f-stop. I love the zoom, but I'm beginning to wish I had the 55mm 1.8 prime instead (but it may be as well as). :-)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Do "good copies" really exist? I've returned or resold 4 copies before giving up. I would buy another instantly if I thought it might be as good as some tested on DXO and other websites - even or close. The lens is small, well built, and with excellent IQ in the center of the field at most apertures. 3 copies we too soft at the edges and corners for printing large at both ends of the zoom at all apertures. The 4th copy was noticeably better only in that the edges sharpened up a little at f8-11 at wide and telex settings. All brands of 24-70mm f2.8 lenses are significantly sharper across the field at all apertures. The distortion level is another story that may be of greater concern to some. Hopefully a lens maker will come up with a small standard zoom that lives up to the abilities of the A7r/A7rII cameras like they have with primes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good for the money It's a delight to own, as a light weight moderately priced walk around travel zoom. Not as sharp as expected but good colour rendering. Not bothered about bokeh myself, but it can deliver in the right conditions. uf you want an 'ace' 24-70 go for the G.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A lens to go everywhere with. I bought this lens a couple of months ago to shoot a volleyball game out of a A6300. The results were great even under poor lighting. I did edit most of the pictures on Lightroom, but that's just more for artistic interpretation. Great lens and highly recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great lens This lens is a great all purpose walk around lens. This is not a prime lens so don't expect the specs you would get with a prime. I use this on my a7 and it's great, lightweight package. Did two weeks in the Pacific Northwest and came back with 1800 images. Overall I'm very pleased with this somewhat overpriced zoom.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exceptionally Nice Piece of Glass We've just switched from full-frame Canon gear to the Sony a7r, and part of the reason why, aside from general compactness, is these wonderful Zeiss T* lenses. I'm a retired professional photographer, and I can't stand mediocre glass. This lens has exceeded my expectations.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's a Zoom - what did you expect? It's hard to describe how much I like the A7r - but one of the things that comes with it is that punishing 36MP sensor. I knew in my heart that a mid-level (but premium priced) zoom lens would not be perfect - but my hopes were high. Basically, it's an average peer to lenses like the Canon 24-105 f/4, 24-70 f/4, and Sony 16-50G. Shooting with the lens, a few things are very clear. First the BAD: 1) It is Not a bag of prime lenses. You will not see nearly the quality of the FE 35mm and 55mm lenses, or other system primes mounted via adapter 2) The distortion is extreme. The camera will try to correct this if you shoot JPG or process RAW in Sony software - but I use Adobe LR. The distortion is wild at 24mm and 70mm - you will see pixel smearing and lose field of view if you correct it. 3) The corners are very soft at 24mm - 28mm, no matter how you stop down. There is no way to improve that. If you resize down to 25-50% it looks a little better (as expected) 4) 70mm is not terribly sharp. Actually, you probably get about as much detail at 70mm as you would at 60mm or 55mm and cropping. This means, that you really have a very good 35-60mm zoom lens, and a kind of so-so 24-28mm and 60-70mm lens 5) Autofocus is rarely quite right - for critical focus I always have to use DMF to fine tune things The GOOD: 1) Center sharpness is great - and this is the part that matters most 2) The contrast and resulting colors are very good, almost Zeiss-like 3) The performance between 35mm and 55mm is excellent - like REALLY exxcellent, stop down just a little to get a very good sharpness across the frame 4) The optical stabilization is amazing. I'm shooting 50mm at 1/5sec with no problem. I'm loving it! Bottom line - this is a zoom lens. It's expensive, but fair considering the reasonable size. Don't expect miracles - it's a zoom lens. For what it is, it's an average and solid performer. I'm keeping it. If you don't need 24mm or aren't very particular, consider the kit lens. It's probably 70-80% as good and less than half the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This new lense by Sony has potential I like the lens but it is less sharp at 24mm than at 35mm to 70mm range. The image stabilization works well and reduces the need for a tripod. I hiked with the camera and lens on dusty trails for three days without any dust related issues. This is my normal lens on the Sony A7R. Overall I like the lens and hope there will be a software fix to correct 24mm soft focus issue.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Lens This was the very first lens I bought for my Sony A7r. I've been using it constantly for the past 2 years and I have to say it's one of my favorites. The new 24-70 G master might be better but, for the price you can't beat the sharpness you get with this lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worst Lens Ever Looking for a lens so slow you will constantly have to tell your friends to "stop moving" and then qualify "be even more still than that" once they have frozen in place? This lens is for you. Looking for a lens that warps your image slightly in all the wrong places, making all your subjects look 4-15 pounds heavier when all the way at 24? This lens is for you! Do you get a thrill spending too much money on a lens that will be the sole cause of you switching back to Canon? This lens is for you!!!! Highly recommend for international trips to make you so frustrated with your image you contemplate throwing it off of a ferry in Croatia. Also great to regift it to your sister in law once the Sony store won't take it back because you were out of the country during the 30 day return window.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It is OK for the money It is an OK lens. I think the distortion is a little high and I don't like the focus by wire. It is pretty sharp and chromatic aberration is OK. I have so many Zeiss ZF lenses and this lens has a lot to live up to. Slightly disappointed it is not f2.8 even if the price is a lot more, but the OSS works well. I have the A7s and the A7ii and it works well with both

Rated 5 out of 5 by from NOT enthusiast grade glass! I'd hoped for a better experience from this lens than I had ... Had to return the first iteration and try several others in store to find one that didn't have: excessive vignetting, overall image softness across the range and especially in the corners between 24-35mm. In addition, when I found a lens that seemed to be a better representation I still had to tune the lens in camera when I got home to eliminate excessive back focus (which may be the cause of so many of the lenses looking "soft" while trying to find an acceptable lens)! This lens is "hit or miss". Be prepared to accept a mediocre version and then having to do some tuning in camera to get it where it should be out of the box. Now I can enjoy the lens but this is frankly an unacceptable experience for a product with this cost and coming from a company like Sony while wearing the Zeiss badge. I'd also considered the 28-70mm kit lens in the beginning but unfortunately had heard that it is much, much worse (typical kit lens performance!).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent but not perfect. After using this lens for a few times, I find it's quality is amazing, with good contrast and smooth to use zooming operation also takes stunning photos . It is also light and not too large to carry as it's my reason to buy this good Zeiss lens. But there are compromise that distortion contribute to the edges of the frame from 24mm and colourisation is much more exaggerate. I have used Canon 24-70 f4 USM, as it simply oozes quality to beat this Zeiss in terms of clarity and quality if I have to choose. Overall I'm happy with it and will keep it because it's a Zeiss.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great lens for the price I wanted to purchase 24-70mm F/2.8 lens which was out of my price range so I settled for this F4 lens and am very happy with its quality and constant F4 for action photography and or in low light situation, I have to use higher ISO due to faster shutter speed or low light but Sony's higher ISO & noise reduction is quite impressive. So having a F4 lens vs. F/2.8 isn't really a big deal and saving is enormous

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 3 years with hardly any complaints First purchased this lens when I got the Sony a7s a few years back, after moving to the a7sii and using both the a7 and a7ii, I have always found this lens to be very consistent in giving me great image quality for both video and photography. Images are sharp, and Auto focus is very fast, though manual focus is very sensitive and can be annoying when shooting video. This has always been my fallback lens when I need something versatile while shooting.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Compact and lightweight for an excellent lens. I bought this lens very recently to pair with a new A7RII bought at the same time. I got them to reduce weight and enable me to carry around absolutely top quality kit when I don't want to be weighed down with other DSLR equipment. Combined with my FE 55 F1.8 ZA this is perfect combo for my needs and I can already see this will fast becoming my 'go to' kit for street, landscape and general photography.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I like it I’m using this lens with a Sony A7S and I must say that I like it. Focus is fast and accurate(as A7S can provide). Sharp at ALL focal length. Soft in the corners at F4 but I use the lens only for video so it doesn’t matter much. It looks good and feels good on my camera.. Thank you

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very High Quality Build, Sharp, Quick Auto Focus. I decided that f/2.8 was not necessary for my applications. I also like the size and weight of this lens. It feel very durable and I would compare it favorably to other brands higher end lenses.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from still doing the job I Bought this lens two weeks ago and had used it several times and formed an opinion that it is not an exceptional quality lens but it is half of the price of 2.8mm and still doing 80% of the job instead 50% it is.Good enough for candid photography.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Superb lens I've had this lens for about 3 months now. Right from the start it suited my purposes well. A very good walk about lens which covers my most used range 24-70. Its sharp! Very sharp! Centre is superb throughout the range, its a zoom so one has to expect some fall out toward the edge and corners, which in my opinion is acceptable. Not so great wide open, 4.5 starts to improve noticeably, 5.6 is my optimum for what I do, 8 slightly better again. I have found it to be very good around the 35mm, 50mm and approx 68mm. That said, 24 to 28 does a good job on my architectural shots, no complaints! Slow at f4 but, I don't do much low light stuff and if I do I crank the ISO up, deal with any noise in PS/LR and shrink the file slightly, job done, perfectly acceptable. Downsides, few. Expensive! Build quality ok, alloy outside plastics inside, don't like plastic! Bulky, but not necessarily heavy. Close to hitting the 5* but, I think for the money I would expect slightly better from a lens with the name Zeiss on it. Good all round lens. If you're getting into Sony full frame, I would say go for this lens as a starter, you are unlikely to be disappointed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good, but could be better It's very sharp and it has very good auto-focus which makes it very useful for shooting with gimbal. It' also very robust. On the other hand it has very bad bokeh and also manual focus is almost impossible to use due to manual focus acceleration which can not be turned off.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from zeiss is always good At the time I got this I had three alpha bodies. The a99ii , a7iii, and a7Riii. The a7iii came with the 28-70mm kit lens. I had been using the Zeiss 24-70 F2.8 on my a99ii. I tired of switching back and forth with the A mount 24-70 on a LA-EA-4 adapter. I sold the 28-70 and purchased the Zeiss 24-70 F4 E-mount. zI would give the edge to the Zeiss f2.8 but the smaller and lighter f4 has advantages in size and weight. Unless I need the extra f-stops I normally use the f4 on either E-body.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice light lens, with very good image quality. I've seen a number of 'reviews' saying that this lens is really poor at the edges but either I've got a good example or they have improved the lens over the years as my copy is pretty good. There is some softness at the edges, which doesn't improve by stopping down, but it's not as bad as a lot of other lenses I've used (mainly Nikon F-mount and Olympus M-Zuiko). Overall I would rate image quality at 8/10. The design is nice and simple, with a nice smooth zoom ring. Weather sealing has been great so far.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Review after 3yrs of use.... I picked this lens up to match up with my A7ii for a travel camera as at the time I was driving across the United States. I use this lens for anything from portraits, smaller landscapes, photographing events, and for feature photos when I’m photographing properties. It’s been a great travel and all around lens that captures dimension very nice images. But... during my last event shoot I decided to shoot in Auto as it’s easier when trying to photograph a lot of people in a short period of time, I noticed a grinding type noise within the lens as the lens was trying to focus. I tried turning on/off my camera, firmware update, etc but nothing helped the noise and the focus hunting. I took the lens to a couple repair shops to compare repair costs and both places quoted me $300 just to take the lens apart and investigate with what I was told would most likely be a part in the focus mechanism that will need to be replaced. The total repair cost would be around $700-800. Well why would I pay that much when a new lens is a few hundred bucks more... And most importantly why is there an issue with my lens after a few years use when my other Sony/Zeiss lenses with the same amount of use do not have the same issue. Sounds like an assembly issue and there should have been a recall on them as I’ve read numerous other reviews with people having the same issue. And no I never dropped the lens and it lives in a heavily padded case when not in use or during transport.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent lens Being a Canon DSLR user I thought I would give mirrorless a try. I recently purchased a Sony A7ii, battery grip & this lens all new, and for less than the price of a Canon R body. I haven't given the lens a proper full on test but so far the shots I have taken, I am very pleased with.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good focal range, bad distortion I have been using this lens for several weeks and the results beyond 35mm have been good, clear and sharp. However, from 24mm to 35mm there has been some severe distortion which I have not been able to correct.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Glass So glad I bought this lens over the 28-70. You get that little bit extra at the wide angle and the build quality is superb. Focusing is ultra fast and photos razor sharp particularly when stopped down a stop. This is my walk around lens of choice and complements my Sony a7 ii perfectly .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from All round lens great for travelling I bought this for Christmas and I'm so happy I did. I was looking for a wide angle lens, but this was a much better find as it met my wide angle requirements, but also has a Zoom as well. As this is an "all in one" solution really good for everyday trips, much lighter than the telephoto, and great for city breaks or generally trips.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great lens. I bought this to replace the 24-70 2.8 that I had for my Canon system, to use for low light theatre photography. I was hoping that the high ISO ability of the Sony sensor would compensate for the loss of one stop, and it did not disappoint.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from a7iii with a single lens, this is my go-to I have started carrying my a7iii pretty much everywhere. If I am taking the camera with just one lens the T* FE24-78 is my go-to. Sure it can be a bit limiting but if you don't want to carry all your kit around when you are out for a lunch-time walk this is a brilliant little lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for its size. I had the 24-70 f 2.8 but damaged my lens. It still works but I destroyed the filter threads. it turns out this f/4 is smaller and works fine. Full frame lenses are expensive. if you dont need the faster f 2.8 this is excellent.
