Know your gear

The Plantronics EncorePro 540 is a quantum leap in convertible headset design. It's a 3-in-1 headset without compromise - all of the wearing styles are designed with quality and comfort in mind, in a system that is simple to convert but delivers a secure, positive fit and finish. The HW540 shares the advances of the other members of the new family, with high-quality audio, a flexible mic with visual positioning guides, soft ear cushions, and durable-yet-lightweight materials for all-day wearing.

Poly EncorePro HW540 - headset is rated 3.15 out of 5 by 26.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Uncomfortable and poor sound quality Tx and Rx The headset comes with 3 different headset options, over-head, behind-head, over-ear. The over-ear adapter has the headset flopping around; the behind-head adapter has no adjustment; and the over-the head adapter is just uncomfortable, though light weight. The speaker part is too large to be an in-ear design and too small for sitting on your ear. The cord is very short (<3ft from earpiece to connector) allowing very little movement without pulling something off your desk. As for the sound quality, I've used many different headsets over the years, including those by Plantronics, Jabra, and GN Netcom in various models. The sound quality for the Plantronics ones are by far the worst overall, particularly this one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great and inexpensive compared to the wireless! I purchased this for the company as a wireless standard and it has clear audio and works well in our environment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love the convenience! Love that you can wear this headset 3 different ways! I am on the phone with insurance companies for long periods of time and this headset is a great time saver.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from EncorePro HW540 & AP15 I received the headset & AP15 adaptor in a timely manner. I love the clarity of the headset, however I don't like the fit of any of the (3) headsets they all seem to large, but I am making them work. It was easy to set up and I love having my hands free!! Overall a great product. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from worked ok It worked alright but within less than a year of 8 hour days, the cushion started falling off ALL THE TIME. I don't see any way to purchase replacement cushions so it can be snug and not drive me nuts all day long. For the cost of this thing, no way am I buying an entire new headset just to get a cushion that stays on for more than 2 hours. The physical device does still function though, so I'm giving it a rating of "average."

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Versatile and good sound but needs work This is the standard issue headset at our 911 dispatch center. The three different head sets makes this a great option for our center. I personally use the behind the neck version and for the most part it is very comfortable. there are times when the plastic portion opposite the ear phone makes my ear a little sore but after 12-16 hours its to be expected. The sound quality is clear and has good volume when there are no other factors. (clear caller/radio transmission, no secondary radio noise, dispatch center noise.) The foam earpiece is comfortable but doesn't do much for filtering out back ground noise. The mouth piece is what I have a problem with. my previous headset was a Plantronics with the old whisper mic. I rarely had complaints about being heard. I've noticed that if I hold the mouth piece right to the side of my mouth there are no issues. However, doing this pushes my earpiece all the way off my ear and defeats the purpose of a headset. So I can safely say if the headset fits the wearer then the transmission sound is good too. I'd like to see an adjustable mouthpiece like the encore 700 series (never tried) or the old whisper mic (works great)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just Ok The audio quality is average- that's about the last of the pros- The cons would be - Cost- Comfort and durability. 2 of the 3 attachments can wear out rather fast- The single ear piece Rubber- it will break and wear out very quickly from taking it on and off the rubber tears- The large over the head piece tends to be not snug and slides around. The attachment that wraps around both ears and the back of your head is probably the nicest one of all the attachments. The Ear piece cloth covers also come off very easily. For the money you are spending you would expect a decent longevity out of the product but if you are using these for a call center fast pace environment than look for another Solution.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Comfortable All day use - High Quality Sound I bought this a year ago and have used it everyday. I talk on the phone all day as a telesales person. I tried all of the wearable options, over the ear, behind the neck, and headset. They were all comfortable, but I settled on the traditional headset after a few months of experimenting. It is so lightweight that I barely know I am wearing it. The sound quality is what you would expect from Plantronics, excellent! A few days ago my granddaughters came to visit (I work from home) and they got a little loud in the adjacent room. I had forgotten to close the office door before starting a conference call. While I could hear the noise, no one else could. The noise cancelation eliminated all of the background noise. You need to buy a cable to go from the Quick Disconnect (QD) connector to the phone you intend to use. I use my iphone. My only concern is that I have had to replace the cable from the QD to the iphone. However since I use this so much and connect and disconnect from my iphone multiple times each day, I figure i just wore it out. However the wire from the Hw540 to the QD has never given me any problems. I started out using my Plantronics Bluetooth behind the ear device. However I didi not want to have a radio transmitter next to my head for 40+ hours each week. i am very satisfied with HW540 and would highly recommend it to anyone wishing to have a wired headset.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from encorepro 540 i've been using this headset for a few hours now. all I can say is WOW. I think they made this thing out of air, it's so light. the 3 in 1 design offeres so many ways to use your headset. the mic is top notch as well, it's small, and keeps background noise down.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Poor Would it kill you to add a second speaker for both-ear sound?? My head has 2 ears; it's uncomfortable to hear in only 1. And what about a simple pot for volume control? I can't believe these kind of common sense features aren't included.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Comfortable but there isn’t much noise canceling I have worn this headset for 2 years. It is lightweight to wear. Unfortunately I have had to super glue the ear piece back together twice. The little connector to the ear piece is not sturdy. As far as noise canceling, my customers tend to hear my coworkers over me. The mouth piece needs to extend closer to my mouth instead of going out straight. I just bought a new headset as a backup, hoping this one’s noise canceling is better.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from not compatible I cannot rate the product be I just received because the headset it's not compatible with the phone (Polycom VVX400) even if in the website is indicated as compatible. The headphone jack is not compatible with the pone port. Was I supposed to purchase also an adaptator ? or it was supposed to cam in the box with the headset? Thanks

Rated 5 out of 5 by from EncorePro 540 I’ve enjoyed using my new headset. It works great. My only complaint would be I wish that the behind the neck piece was adjustable. Other than that I like it. And the staff here was very helpful when I was deciding what to purchase. They answered all of my emails to them almost immediately.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Poor quality and loose fitting I use this product everyday in a call center and this product is cheaply made..sound quality is not great and the other parts that come in the set are too loose fitting and stretch out of shape easily

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best headset I’ve had I’ve worn many headset over my 20+ years as a 911 operator and I’ve never had one that was this lightweight and comfortable. Yes, at first look I didn’t think it would hold up but it has serviced me well for several years without a problem

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Comfort is not all the way there Just got this headset thru my employer. First: headset that I got was not working properly. Second: The sound quality is horrible So I had requested for a replacement and requires the customer to pay for shipping to send the defective device back.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Versatile! the option to have head, neck, or earpiece sets this apart from the others. Instead of buing a mix of headset types for my call center, I can simply order this one product nad give everyone the choice. The sound is great, too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good quality general purpose headset Plantronics makes another workhorse headset with multiple ways to wear it. It's only weakness is that the ear piece hinge breaks (so I order those in bulk) and users tend to over flex the boom.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great! This headset works so much better than the around-the-ear type and is much sturdier. No problems hearing or talking through the set.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not for Me The headset does not fit properly; neither the behind the ear, over the head or the behind the neck. Each design forces the mouthpiece in an awkward fit from your mouth. I cannot get either style to adjust properly. The over the ear is the worst fit. Customers were unable to hear me and I'm certain its the placement of the mouthpiece.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality Needs To Step Up To the 7xx Series The modular design is welcomed, but not for everyone. The height for the behind the head isn't as adjustable for agents that are under 5'3" or over 6'. It is either too loose or too snug for comfort and adequate mic positioning. The clips for each wear-style feel cheap and agents toss headsets or start to walk away while still corded all the time. While none have broken yet, it is just a matter of time as they experiment with what style is most comfortable for them. The worst component is the foam cushion on the ear piece. These, like all others, disintegrate rapidly and require frequent replacement. I would love to try this design at the quality level of a 7xx series with the "leatherette" ear cushion. While these cushions are available at additional cost for the 540, when you have 1100 agents it isn't exactly practical, cost-effective, nor efficient to swap them out when purchasing these in bulk numbers. Fortunately, I only ordered 10 as a pilot program.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Design could be better As a 911 operator I decided to purchase this headset mainly for its versatility. My previous headset was an over the ear style but it didnt stay in place and was too flimsy (also a plantronics). I have only used this headset for a few days and I already dont like it. I prefer to wear it over my head but it is so uncomfortable. The earpiece itself while small, is too heavy and hurts my ear. After wearing for only a few hours my ear is so sore. I am constantly readjusting it trying to find a comfortable spot. Really disappointed in this headset. If I could return it I would.
