Solid protection
Solid protection for my new iPad Air. I like that the cover can be used as a tablet stand. I was even able to add a camera cover slide for privacy. I did also apply a screen protector.

My iPad seems very secure in the case. The outer shells turns into a stand that is very handy to use. I had an outer box on my previous iPad that help you very well when I dropped it.

I’ve had it for a few weeks and it works good, I was able to still add a screen protector and install the case so that’s a plus.

A solid case
It's an amazing case. Sturdy and all. I had literally no idea how to put it on my ipad because there are no instructions but I had someone who knew. Other than ordeal, it's amazing. Personally I actually prefer other cases, but if I were on the move more I would love this for it. Sadly I sit in my bed all day so I do wish I had another. The touch part is kind of uncomfortable, but what can you do when that's protecting it from getting busted.

It’s OK
This case would be much better it it didn’t have the cheap plastic flip piece on the side for pen storage. It just comes off way too easy. It could be done in rubber formed like the rest of the outer protection for this case. I really only have a complaint about that.

Not what I’d expect from Otterbox
Horrible door for pen. Doesn’t seem like it is as protective as the Otterbox I had before. The cover/stand is very primitive and poorly designed. I miss the old folding easel/stand. Way overpriced for what it is.

Protection overkill
This case is protection overkill. It is much more protection than my iPad will ever need and that’s the point. The construction is reinforced to ensure maximum protection of the screen, and corners in case of a drop. The access point to my finger Touch ID is easy to access. There is even a quick access slot so to be able to reach the Apple Pencil if you have that accessory. The screen protector becomes a multi positional base in which to prop up the iPad.
Put this on your 6th Gen Air and no harm will come to it.
Cons. Weight, Bulky, and loss of access to why I bought the “air” version of the iPad in the first place. They should have a slightly lessor model than this. It seems more like something made for a construction zone.

Preference for screen protection
I did not expect that the product would be lacking screen protection and I hope that a future version includes it. Otherwise the quality of the product was as expected. Have been using Otterbox products for several years now with multiple products.

The perfect case
Loving my iPad even more with this case! I have an Amazon screen protector with the case (fits perfect). I’ve been using the otterbox stand that came with the case for everything. Yes, the case is bulky and makes it a bit heavy but it’s better than possibly breaking your iPad with a cheap case.

Bringing others into the Otterbox family!
I got this present for my parent's in law. Otterbox has been protecting my cell phones and iPads for over a decade - glad to continue it by this rugged case for my parent's in law. It has an elegant yet rugged look and feels secure. Most importantly, I know that from rigorous testing, and our own field testing of the one that we have had on our IPAD, that it will continue to protect!

Pretty good beta release
Very durable, with regard to drops, especially when adding a tempered glass screen protector. I agree with some of the other reviewers with regard to angles of the iPad sitting in the cover. Too vertical/horizontal at its native settings. The pencil charging cover is a poor design. Hopefully in successive models, Otterbox will improve on both of these.

Sturdy, lacking clear screen cover protection.
Coming from a previous Defender series to this on was a little bit of a let down, there is no clear plastic cover for the screen as previous versions had. Otherwise it seems to be sturdy like the previous Defender cases.
Shipping was BERY SLOW!…. It shipped via UPS to the USPS for delivery. UPS did great as it arrived in my town in 2 days. Then it sat in the USPS office for over 10 days before it was delivered to my house.

Ugh, I don’t love it.
I’ve never not had an Otterbox with any of my iPads or iPhones in the past. I should’ve listened to other reviewers that said this one falls short. It feels cheap. Lots of rough edges and sharp seams. Using it for a length of time is rough on the hands. Sounds ridiculous but you’ll see if you get one. I might try to file down some of these sharp parts. Even after just putting it on, my hands are a bit raw. Maybe I just got a bad one and the others are made a bit better but don’t know.
The little pencil door is useless. Doesn’t easily open or close.
That all said, it’s still probably a lot more protective than most cases out there. Just wish they’d have gone with a similar design to their past successful cases.

Worth every penny, do recommend.
I know it has the stand but can Otterbox design a folio type cover to order in case we want to replace the one provided.
Wish the door would feel the same as the rubber and not the interior plastic.
Pen cover can easily come off, will Otterbox send a replacement cover if needed?

Otter Box is always great. I have one complaint why I didn’t give 5 stars… when I put my iPad in the otter box holder it stands up too straight, it is awkward and needs a little more angle back to be comfortable.

My air iPad 4th gen Defender Series Pro Case
Three weeks of use results in a 4 star rating.
Pro: firm sturdy case for protection, tight fitting USB port cover, excellent sound port openings, pen holder lid stays shut, up/down volume buttons firm and precise, Touch Bar easy access, better case materials than original air iPad gen 1.
Con: iPad screen smears because no clear screen protector is bonded to the case. I would rate it a 5 if a screen protector like gen 1 was present.

Nice but questionable value - NO SCREEN PROTECTOR
I purchased direct because I thought I read that this product had a screen protector. For the price, I expected to have a screen protector as well. We have been very loyal to Otterbox over the past 10 years. The product design change has us looking for other options due to the value.

Fits like a glove
I bought this when I ordered my iPad Air and it’s great, there is a cut out for the fingerprint reader, a cover on both sides, and the cover is also a stand. As with all the Otterbox covers, this one is very substantial and I am sure will protect my tablet from damage.

Good but bulky
I spent more for my iPad Air because of its thinness and lightness.then I bought this DefenderPro case. Now it is heavy, and bulky. Takes longer to open iPad by removing the cover and then activating it than it took with a folio cover. Using the built in stand is not convenient because of the almost vertical viewing angle. I use the iPad a lot for reading books and newspapers, and so it is not comfortable to hold for extended periods. But it is sturdy and since I dropped my last iPad and broke it, I will probably keep this beast

Pencil holder is junk
Case is sturdy. Pencil holder cheap plastic fell off and I reattached multiple times. Have had case a week and pencil plastic holder fell off and was lost. I am not rough on any items I own. Sturdy case lousy design and cheap pencil pouch expensive for quality.

This provide protection when coupled with a screen protector. It should have a better storage space for the pencil. The iPad also should have better angles for standing the iPad for reading and writing. I hate the standing angles for the case.

Terrible, terrible stand.
I bought this product a week ago, and initially it was great. But as I used it more and more, I eventually saw a critical problem: the stand. I used the OtterBox Defender for the iPad air 3, and it was brilliant - best case i've owned. I trusted OtterBox to bring a similar design for the iPad air 4, but I was wrong.
The case stand sucks.
There are two positions, similar to the old design. One high for viewing and one low for drawing, etc. But this new design for the iPad Air 4 takes both of those to the extreme. The high stand makes it practically vertical, which makes it impossible to view. The low stand is extremely low, practically on the desk, totally horizontal. Both are impossible to make it a comfortable viewing position.
The reason for this is that they (for some reason shifted the thing that makes it stand forward an inch or so, which makes a massive difference.
They should've used the iPad air 3 design. If it isn't a flaw, don't try fixing it. OtterBox has disappointed me with this $90 (really expensive!) case, looking forward to buy a new one. Can't believe this design actually got approved.

Love this OtterBox Defender case for my iPad. It’s Perfect!
At first, I thought I had problems with this case. But then after I used it for a day or two. I realized that it’s a lot better than I thought. I have no problems at all with it.
I actually like it and I’m glad I got it over any other case. I’ve been using OtterBox Defender on my phone for a long time and I do really prefer your case to any other. It is the best and safest. I like everything about this case. Thank you OtterBox.

Great ITEM. TERRIBLE COMPANY
I Purchased this item quite a while ago and within a month the latch that covers the recharging port broke which defeats the entire purpose of a waterproof case. I asked the company to return it and they would not allow it. Now a little while later Apple has told me the port is filled up with so much dirt it’s almost impossible to clean. So it recharges about 1/20 as fast as it should. I will never buy another item from this company

Compared to older models, they’ve dropped the ball
I picked this case up after having my old 5th gen iPad in the older version of this case for many years. I wasn’t really expecting the case to be better, but i did expect it to be at least as good as the older one. Although the flap for the charging port is still stiffer than it needs to be, and the compartment where the Apple Pencil is meant to charge does leave something to be desired, the outer shell that doubles as the stand is where this new case absolutely drops the ball. They both allow the tablet to be in two positions, but someone decided to make this new one sit at an un-usable steep angle rather than “laptop screen position” of the older case… Absolutely ridiculous.

Not as good as they used to be
I have had this case for about six months now and it is not as good as the past Otterbox cases I have used. My daughter previously had an iPad from 2015 and we used the Otterbox Defender for the entire time. It never broke, never had the screen scratch, and it stood the test of time for her from ages 3-8. We decided to upgrade for her to the iPad Air and the obvious choice was to go with the Otterbox again. About six months later, on a Friday the 13th no less, the iPad bent while inside the Otterbox. She is 9 years old now, and is much more careful with her devices. This happened from the iPad sitting on the back seat of a car when the seat was folded down. The external screen did not crack, but apparently there is an underlying screen that did. The iPad is now not useable, and I feel like the case did not do its job in protecting the iPad. This case does still protect against drops, but now I am well aware of other requirements that I need from tablet cases.

Protection
This is my bazillionth otter box. It works very well. It is easy to get on an off of the iPad. It provides good protection and fully covers the iPad. It doesn't have a screen saver, but that is a small detail. I bought it for my son and he is very happy with it as am I.

Okay but could be better
It is great in terms of fit and protection, HOWEVER, due to the raised edgys, it is uncomfortable to write with an apple pencil in portrait. Not only that but if you own an apple pencil I would not suggest this case because you can't charge your apple pencil without having the side flap open or removed. Also unless you remove said side flap, it is incredibly uncomfortable to try and remove said apple pencil. If you were limited to an otterbox product, I would suggest the symmetry series for note taking/school stuff or anything to do with an apple pencil (buttttttttt its top right corner is known to slip off partially, which happened to me too and this case if you don't have an apple pencil or only plan on needing something durable. (bought symmetry on amazon and this case on bestbuy fyi)

Thought it was coming with the screen protector like my other case. It did not. Also no instructions on how to install it. Ended up breaking the case because the instructions online were for a whole different case. Returning.
