OMEN by HP Accelerator Shell GA1-1000 - external GPU enclosure - black is rated 3.1 out of 5 by 10.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works as an accelerator The HP accelerator does a great job at its primary task, holding a video card and providing acceleration to a thunderbolt connected laptop. It also looks good with red lighting and the angular display window highlighting the video card. It fails to deliver in a few areas. The included USB ports simply don't work reliably, especially with a keyboard and mouse. Making a single plug in dock impossible. The included thunderbolt cable is very short. It won't reach around a laptop if you're thunderbolt port is not on the side adjacent to the accelerator. The red led lights that highlight the video card are mounted in a way that you have to disassemble the unit to move it if you want to install a larger card. Better engineering here to allow it to be unplugged easily for card installation would have been appreciated. Finally the included power supply had only one 8 (6+2) connection power cable. The other one is a 6 only. If you want to install a video card that requires two 8 connection power supplies you have to purchase a 3rd party adapter. (Note a card with a very high power requirement may exceed the capabilities of the power supply, but unless you are considering a workstation level card that is unlikely. )It does its primary job just fine. And for the price was the right decision for me. Just be aware the extras don't always come through.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works as an eGPU enclosure I've been using this for about 2 months and have had no issues with GPU (GTX 1060 3GB) use beyond initial headaches regarding initial driver setup etc.The only problem I've had, which could be due to just a lack of effort on my part to solve, is getting the USB ports in the back to function properly. I noticed that connecting USB peripherals into the Omen seemed to induce intermittent disconnection. I just use a hub plugged into my computer as a work around.I bought this because the price was quite reasonable and the ability to use full-size cards and install a hard drive into the Omen were big selling points for me. That being said, it's rather large and imposing, but not in an unpleasant way.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from regarding the short TB3 cable... The reason it ships with a short TB3 cable is to allow max bandwidth:0.5m (1.65ft) TB 3 (40Gbps) 1m (3.3ft) TB 3 (20Gbps) 2m (6.6ft) TB 3 (20Gbps) depending on your needs you can get longer TB3 cables for the dock, just be aware of the bandwidth restrictions based on the cable lengths.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not a single cable solution - USB Hub ineffective Had this product for 1 week before returning. The actual GPU acceleration, works great with my Macbook pro. Was not expecting such easy plug and play ability! However, if the GPU is under any sort of load, you will experience throttling on USB peripherals, making it effectively useless for any sort of gaming experience. This means that if you are playing a game with your wired mouse plugged into the back of the HP Accelerator, the mouse will stutter and you will be unable to play the game. This, obviously, was the single reason why I bought this product, so right back to HP it went. Would have been a great product if not for that one (major) caveat.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works as advertised, but could be better Works as advertised, including support for an older video card that was not listed in the compatibility specs. For the price, it's hard to complain about. The only real negatives are the short Thunderbolt cable (expect to buy a longer one) and form factor (it's huge and the shape doesn't make it easy to place). Integrated audio/microphone ports would have been nice too.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Best band for buck. Don't bother upgrading the PSU I replaced an AKiTiO Node with one of these and never looked back. So many more ports, plus charging over thunderbolt, and all at a lower cost. I think this enclosure is great, and it works well too. Pros:+ All the expansion ports offered+ Charging over TB3Cons:- Over-engineered with layers of plastic on metal- Comes with a very short cable (they all do as TB3 cables are very expensive)- Annoyingly skinny and deep hole that sits in front of the GPU screw- It sits diagonally to match the Omen design language (more on that below)After using it with my XPS 13 at a LAN party where I had limited room to place the laptop, eGPU, and monitor, I decided to open it up and remove the legs (HP would never recommend this, I'm sure). Now the enclosure uses quite a bit less space than before, while looking better at the same time. Best of all I can sit my laptop comfortably on top of the enclosure, taking up zero space.FYI the PSU in the GA1-1000 is more than enough for 99% of cards, despite what other reviews might say. Those who are trying to put in large PSUs and finding they don't fit, probably aren't aware that the stock PSU would have probably been more than adequate. GPU power recommendations also factor in the estimated power draw from an entire desktop, which doesn't really apply here. Eg: AMD R9 290 GPUs came with a recommendation of a 750W PSU. Actual draw is 300-350W. And those were power hungry cards. Works fine in the GA1-1000.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works well with a 15 hp 360 spectre I travel for work often and like to game while stuck in a hotel.. wanted a touchscreen so the Spectre fit the bill. The 940MX nvidia card can handle lower settings on fallout 4, Witcher 3, etc. I added an Nvidia 1050GTX and an omen accelator at home for higher res gaming. Setup was straight forward with BIOS and firmware updates. It has worked well so far, I put it through some gaming with 60 FPS at 1080p and high graphics settings on fallout 4. Definitely need to use an external monitor for best performance.... it’s nice to only have one cable to plug in (the thunderbolt cable which is a bit too short). It powers the laptop so I can leave my power supply in my travel bag. Could have even better performance with a higher graphics card but the cost a bit more so I’ll wait on that.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Missing part, but graphics performs fine Connected to a laptop with thunderbolt 3 gave the graphics performs I was hopping for. Sadly, the USB ports were not as useful. The USB devices keeps loosing and regaining connection every few seconds which makes the device pretty much useless as a docking station. The device is also missing a piece in that is mentioned in the manual. I have received two units, neither of which have the piece (one was a replacement for the first one, which was returned for missing this piece).
